Windows Server 2012 R2 RRAS resource connection issue

Q: Windows Server 2012 R2 RRAS resource connection issue

I had the RRAS working fine for months, I tried to configure L2PT and after restarted the Routing and remote access access services, I am not able to ping, rdp or connect to the network, even I connect vpn PPTP successfully. I undo the the L2TP settings
and restarted the routing and remote access service, but still cannot longer access any network resources.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Trying to implement VPN using Windows Server 2003. I'm trying to connect it to my domain controller. In RRAS I've configured two NIC's. One is for the Private Network (192.168.2.1) and the other is connected to the Internet using a Wireless Network 192.168.1.105 (and I've got Internet access).

I log on to another networks wireless Internet connection and the IP address given to me is 192.168.0.31.

Then on Windows XP I, Create a new connection, Connect to the network at my workplace, Create Virtual Private Network Connection, Select Do Not dial the initial connection, Address of VPN server: 192.168.1.105 (is this how I'm supposed to do it, or am I way off?)

My windows firewall is turned off on both ends. And I've created a user account called "cohovineyard\userone" and on the Dial-in tab "Allowed Access."

On Remote Access Policies I created a policy called "VPN policy" and added a Windows-Group called "supportteam" (which user "userone" is a part of)

Hello and thanks in advance for any help.

I have a small office network with only a couple servers, and even fewer workstations. We have WiFi and cabled Ethernet, and are running a Verizon Fios internet connection. I have setup a RRAS (routing and remote access) server, and established the VPN.

I can connect to the VPN with no errors or problems via the internal network. When I attempt to connect to the VPN via an internet connection it fails with error 691.

I can see the traffic via the router logs. I can also see errors in the RRAS servers event viewer, so I know that the connection is being made, but for some reason authentication is failing.

All the settings are the same for both connections, and I am using the same user name and password for both connections as well.

How can the authentication fail connecting to the same VPN, using the same method, just having the data go two different directions? PLEASE HELP!

thanks again.

Hello,

Have you looked at the following:

Also, can you verify that the networks are on different IP Ranges, as this is required for VPN Connectivity to work correctly.

Can you give us some more information on the RRAS Errors?

We run a web proxy server on our network for internet access.
On client machines (running Windows 2012 R2) I have configured the proxy server setting in Internet Explorer "Tools\Internet Settings\Connections\LAN Settings" to point at the designated web proxy server.
When attempting to browse websites from IE I receive the "The proxy server isn't responding" error.
Conversely, browsing the same sites via Google Chrome and Firefox (installed on the same client server) return web pages without error.
In addition, if I run Internet Explorer as administrator (Right Click\Run as Administrator), I am able to browse web sites without receiving the error.
It would appear that the issue is isolated to browsing via IE when not run in elevated mode.
Has anyone come across this issue?

A:Server 2012 R2 - Internet Explorer Proxy Server Issue

Hi Dicki,
First, please try to reset the Internet Explorer. Some plug-ins may affect the proxy.
If it doesn't work, please try to perform a network capture on the client.
Please check if the client send the http traffic to the proxy server at the correct port.
If the client has sent the http traffic to the proxy server, please check if there is any warning or error in the proxy server.

I have a strange issue where domain attached Win 8/10 computers using desktop IE11 with enhanced protected mode enable are unable to browse internet zone pages when connected via SSTP via our 2012 rras server.
The issue only occurs in this specific scenario.
Windows 7 machines do not have this issue, the only significant difference between our Windows 7 machines and Windows 8/10 ones are that the 7 machines are 32bit whereas the 8/10 machines are 64bit.
Other than turning off EPM which is not an option for us the only other way of getting browsing to work in this scenario is to use a web proxy on the vpn connection but again this is not a solution I wish to rollout across the organisation.
I'm not able to run Wireshark as it wont see the VPN connection so wonder if anyone else has experienced this or a similar issue and might be able to shed some light on it?
Thanks

I'm trying to setup a VPN server on W2K Server (SP3). That same machine is running as my web server, and is also running terminal services so I don't have to go upstairs to work on it. When I start RRAS everything is shut down (as expected). I can no longer see the web site and my TS session is disconnected. I move to the console and open what I would consider the appropriate incoming filters in RRAS (like port 80 for web services) but for the life of me I can't get to the web site. At this point not even the VPN is functioning, but I'll worry about that once I figure out this RRAS/IIS contention. Please help.....

An update. I just opened all filters, incoming and outgoing and can access the web site. I guess it does have something to do with the filters. Maybe I can figure this out afterall. Still, advice would be appreciated.

Here's the issue I am having.
My VPN is currently on a server 2003. I have installed it on my server 2008. I go into my sonicwall and changed the IP address from 192.168.0.11 (old VPN server) to the new IP 192.168.0.13 (new VPN server) and I am unable to connect to VPN.
However if I change the IP address of the new server to 192.168.0.11 I can connect via VPN just fine.
I'm not sure if it matters but my old VPN server is also a backup domain controller and DNS, the new server is just a file share server and has IIS enabled for our antivirus.
I've looked at every setting I can think of and I even called Sonicwall and they state everything looks good in my settings. Any help would be greatly appreciated in this!

Hello,
I created the following performance counter using logman.exe.

logman.exe create counter US_Triton_Perf_Log -b 9/23/2015 09:30:00 -e 9/30/2099 18:30:00 -r -s $server -si $frequence -cf $folder\$server.txt -f $logtype  -o C:\local\logs\Perfout_$Server --a -v mmddhhmm  -rf  $max_duration

When I do this across multiple servers specifically for Windows Servers 2008/2012, the counter is created to repeat and run everyday at 930PM and stops running everyday at 430PM. This works perfectly fine as intended. However, When I do this for a Windows
2003 server, my created counter is very different.
For example, in this case, I have set to the counters to start at 930AM and end at 1830PM, because I have set a maximum duration of 9 hours, the job terminates and begins on the next day, since I have the repeat option on. However, this does not apply to
our 2003 server; logman creates the job to run once a week in this case it would be on a Wednesday. In addiiton, I noticed that the job doesn't not even start at it's indented time. It actually does not start at all. I also notice that the jobs on all windows
2003 servers are created in a pending status, which then prevents me from removing the counter remotely.

I would like to know if windows 2003 is capable of working like my win 2008/2012 servers using logman, and if historically, the job has to be kicked off through scheduled task.

Both Jobs are using the same criteria, but a... Read more

this one took me for a ride. my PC was running fine one minute then when I tried to get on the internet it wouldn't connect. I got the message "windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary dns server)". I unplugged my ethernet cable from my pc to my laptop and was able to connet to the net, all the wireless devices (Ipod, Ipad smartphone etc..) had no problem connecting to the net. for 2 days I searched for a solution. I did everything that was suggested on the different websites. none worked. one website suggested that I change my preferred ip adress to 8.8.8.8 and alternate to 8.8.4.4 (in Ipv4) I figured what do I have to lose and bingo it worked. I still don't know what happened any info would be good. Now my problem is my laptop won't connect to the net wirelessly all the other devices are fine. any suggestions would be helpful.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I've searched online for multiple methods with all the command prompt commands, scanning with malware / adwcleaner etc... Tried using different open DNS or automatic obtain DNS. I'm also using automatic obtain IP.

Maybe it has something to do with my router settings on my router website(?)

If there are any information I should post, please tell me.

The problem exists on my Laptop.  Below are the different errors I've received when troubleshooting my connection:
Windows can't communicate with the device or resource (primary DNS server)

Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding
Failed to obtain an IP Address from the DHCP Server
The connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken

The modem and the connection appears to work fine with other devices.
Also, any new programs that seem to download successfully won't install due to corruption.  I've deleted the Cache and tried these downloads repeatedly in order to run secondary programs like HitmanPro.  I've been troubleshooting for over a week, including searching this forum for answers, but have been coming up short.

I've tried these things:
- ipconfig/release + ipconfig/renew
-I reset the TCP/IP settings via the instructions on microsoft.com (netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt)
-Resetting modem. (Soft & Hard Reset)
-System Restore
-Full scan with Malawarebytes, AdwCleaner, CCleaner, JRT, TDSSKiller, ESET

Attached are my results running MiniToolBox.

Thank you, all help is greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,
I read quite some articles about this issue but nothing could solve it so far.
I want to setup an VPN HOST by defining an incoming connection in Win7. This works perfect - I can see the connection and I can connect.
BUT: after a reboot the incoming connection disappeared.
I found out that the required service are started except the "Routing and RAS service". In the event log I see an error with event-id 7024. It says "Event ID: 7024 - The Routing and Remote Access service terminated with service-specific error
code: the requested name is valid, but no data has been found" (that is an translation, the OS language is not English).
Now here's the interesting part: when I start the RRAS manually it comes up and the incoming connection is shown again. I tried to start the RRAS delayed but that did not work.
I am running a fresh Win7 with SP1 (not all patches since SP1 have been applied) with only 1 LAN adapter. Vmware network adapters have been removed.
Any help would really be appreciated.

A:Incoming connection (VPN via PPTP) disappears after reboot - RRAS service not started -Event-ID 7024

Finally I found the cause of this issue.
Basically, a bridged lan-connection prevents the RRAS service to start properly.
Besides the Win7 VPN-connection ("incomming connection"), I use OpenVPN. The OpenVPN-network adapter and the physical lan adapter are bridged. Exactly this network bridge prevents the Routing and RAS service to start properly.
I was able to replicate this behavior by deleting the network bridge and use the OpenVPN-network adapter and lan adapter separately. The RRAS then starts normally.
Anyways I need the network bridge. So the solution is to start the Routing and RAS service delayed. I had to choose a delay of 2mins. 1min did not do the job.

Hi. I have a strange problem, it's the first time this ever happened so I'm confused.. I study in a different town, and now I'm back home for the holidays, trying to set up my computer with my old connection. I use my laptop (acer aspire 5742ZG) and before I moved out it worked like it should have. Then while in the other town I needed to set up my connection, this time by myself (through some sort of interface in 192.168.1.1). Now that I'm back next thing happens: I appear to be online, I am online on skype (can chat, and people chat back) but when it comes to connecting to the internet through the browser or an online game I play it's not responding, as if there is a problem.
I use windows 7, so the troubleshooting software reports what's in the title.
The problem is not with the connection - 3 computers are connected to it, 2 with cable, 1 wireless. I would use wireless too, but I am too far away from the modem (it's in another house, and I have a long cable which works, posting from the desktop computer connected to it)

My guess would be that I could have messed something up while setting up the connection in the other town, but honestly it's pretty bizarre to me how it works and doesn't work at the same time...

Help would be greatly appreciated

Hi

A:Installation of sql server 2012 and visual studio 2012

SQL Server has an upgrade option that is pretty painless. Just run the setup file from your 2012 installation media and click the upgrade option. It will ask you what instance to upgrade, run some checks, and then upgrade it for you.

Visual Studio is a little different. If you install 2012 without uninstalling 2010 first, you will simply just have both versions to choose from. You can completely uninstall 2010 before installing 2012 by finding your 2010 installation file and adding the uninstall and force switches when running it(ex. "C:\vs_ultimate.exe /uninstall /force").

If you keep 2010, 2012 will ask you if you wish to import your settings and whatnot from 2010. If you uninstall 2010, 2012 will just have it all when you open it for the first time.

What version of server 2012 do you have? Also what client operating systems do you have? Windows 7 Home premium, professional, ultimate?

This can affect what services you can offer to clients.

Hello 8forums,

Really great forum here and I'm glad to join. If I posted this in the wrong section I apologize.

Okay now here's my problem. I'm currently trying to setup Windows Server 2012 for my dad. The main thing it will be used for is storage of movies, photos and backing up Excel documents for work. This is a copy a friend burned him onto a disk and is currently NOT activated. He wanted to check it out before purchasing the license. I have installed it onto an old HP Pavilion a1640n and everything went fine with installation but, now that it is installed I cannot connect his Win8 computer to it. I have Googled this and found a method but, it doesn't work. I'm told to open a browser and enter in the address bar " HTTP://Server-name/connect " (Server-name replaced with then name of his server) and I should get a connector software download page. I do not get this software download page I just get a server not found page. I have tried entering other possibilities into the address bar, too (192.168.0.xxx/connect, adding .com etc.) nothing works. If I can get any help with this it would be appreciated.

I have tried:

Completely reinstalled Windows Server 2012
Reinstalled Ethernet drivers on the WS2012 box

Things they may be causing the problem:

As I said the Windows Server 2012 is not activated.

I dont know what was happening at the time but i got the usual signs of it right away - complaints that the computer stopped working, everything was slowing down until the inevitble happened and the computer couldn't take it any more; blue screen. I was freaking out cause ive solved small problems before but seemed really out of my league for bluescreen. I thought i'll just boot up in safe and system restore (its helped in the past, maybe it would now) but when i tried to, it said system restore had been disabled. I couldnt enable it for a long time.

I rebooted and tried the repair the computer option of F8 but itdidnt do the usual "take me to a menu with system restore etc options" thing but instead started a dummy log in thing where all it shows it a guest login and nothing no matter what would let it log in. So i abandoned that route and using my phones internet tried looking for some advice.

To cut a long story short, i eventually got malwarebytes downloaded as i kinda knew it would at least put a halt to the bluescreen fiasco for long enough to try fixing the rest. It forunately worked. I had a bunch of viruses that it contained and removed. I ran a check with my panda antivirus 2011 software and it found a few bits, but nothing m... Read more

I have installed Windows Server 2012 r2 on this Lenovo.  I assumed (much like Windows 10) Windows Server 2012 would install most of the drivers needed for this model, but very few drivers have been installed.Device Manager has several devices that need drivers.  Of course, Network drivers are on the list.  I need those in order to allow Lenovo diagnostics to update the drivers automatically.  I have tried to use Windows 10 64 bit drivers for the updates (both Intel and Realtek), but neither seem to be working. Can anyone help with this issue?

My Windows 8 Desktop and Tablet are always getting optional updates for errors regarding Windows Server 2012 R2. I have no idea what that is, and if I should install them. I'm not running a server, so I'm guessing that I can just hide them. Am I right?

Good day

I recently started at a company where i assist in small IT related tasks.

Recently we have started to experience some trouble with our server, we will all still be working perfectly fine (via Remote Desktop) then all of a sudden we lose our connection to the server and when i go to see what the problem is, I see the blue screen
of death on the screen with the following message:
"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then we'll restart for you.
If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (TSFairShare.sys)"
If anyone can please assist me in what this means and how to resolve it i would appreciate it seeing as i don't have
a clue in connection to servers.

Hi: Try the windows 8 graphics driver from the notebook's support page. That would be the only suggestion I can offer.

Hi I downloaded the .iso of windows server standard 2012. I was told to use the windows 7 usb dvd download tool but when I browse to the .iso of windows server standard 2012 and try to load it. It says that "the selected file is not a valid ISO file. Please select a valid ISO file and try again." I cant figure out why it is doing this but is this a common problem? are there alternatives tools that can put windows server 2012 standard onto a bootable USB drive because my server has no dvd drive, just a cd and USBs. Please HHHHHHHEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPP!!!

A:Bootable USB for Windows Server 2012

Poweriso free ( unregistered ) version seems to work very well.

PowerISO - Create, Burn, Mount, Edit, Compress, Encrypt, Split, Extract ISO file, ISO/BIN converter, Virtual Drive

If you d/l from there , it just runs as the free version.

Recently, Microsoft included the Windows Server 2012 R2 RTM on their Dreamspark basic site. Currently, I'm running the R1 version on a virtual machine using VMware Player. How can I upgrade the R1 to R2 while keeping all of my files and settings using VMware?

Do I just boot from the ISO (I haven't downloaded it yet) (CD/DVD settings inside R1 VM) and then it will detect and upgrade R1 or I have no choice but to create another VM and then manually replicate my files and settings from R1 VM? I really don't want to do the latter since it's very time consuming. I hope someone has thoughts on how to do this.

A:Windows Server 2012 R2 upgrade over R1?

Wow, I just redirected VMware to the R2 iso and just followed the simple steps and I'm now currently upgrading on VMware. I didn't know it was possible to do that. I'll mark this thread as solved if there are no issues with the in place upgrade. Hopefully, everything works fine.

Update: everything went smoothly and now enjoying Server 2012 R2. Sadly, no colorful backgrounds in R2 unlike 8.1. All of my "3D" Metro App games like Pinball FX2, Jetpack Joyride, etc. work perfectly after the in place upgrade .

I can guess the answer, no, but you never know. Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 Pro 64-bit to Windows Server 2012 R2? What happens if you run the setup from Windows 10 Pro? You will be given the choice to upgrade, or be prompted to restart and do a clean installation? As far as I know, Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server counterpart of Windows 10. They even share most of the drivers. Assuming you have a computer running Windows 10 Pro and want to convert that to a small server, running say Windows Server 2012 R2 Foundation Edition. Is that possible, or you have to format and clean install? Hopefully the drivers will be the same as in Windows 10.

Alternatively, is there any upgrade/addon to add server aspects in Windows 10 Pro (eg mail server, file server or HTTP server)? Is there an equivalent of Windows Home Server for Windows 10?

Thank you for your time.

A:Is it possible to upgrade Windows 10 to Server 2012 R2?

No. Windows Server 2012 R2 is the server version of Windows 8.1

The server version of Windows 10 has not yet been released, but it will be called Windows Server 2016.

And no, you cannot upgrade a desktop OS to a Server OS.

Hi there
Will the W2012 Server get the 8.1 type of update --anybody know. There seems to be a deafening silence on W2012 server which IMO is strange as it is STREETS ahead of the really horrible W2008 server.

W2012 server has options though already to avoid the whole metro stuff but it would be nice to add some of the proposed customisation features to it.

I'm also not hearing anything about whether W8 ENTERPRISE will also be upgraded -- IMO this is MORE important even than the HOME versions if Ms wants businesses to adopt W8. Boot to the standard desktop is really a MUST for businesses - by also pinning standard programs to the quick launch task bar and / or the desktop a lot of problems of User training can be avoided.

Cheers
jimbo

A:Windows 2012 server to get update or not - anybody

I am wondering this myself. Also, how will future support work for users who do not upgrade to 8.1? Nothing in 8.1 looks to have much of an effect on someone who uses a SMR and the desktop exclusively. Should I bother upgrading and risk having some type of issue with my work PC?
I recently rolled out a 6 PC trial with Windows 8 and Start8 (Start8 with GPO), and am really concerned 8.1 could break something with GPO or Start 8. Ugg, MS.
