I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello and welcome,

The drivers should be available at the EOL site:

https://download.lenovo.com/eol/index.html

Scratch that.  They're still available on the regular support site:

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-t-series-laptops/thinkpad-...

The upper bar that says "Product Home" is a drop-down. Click it and select "Drivers and Software".

A:Where can I find Bluetooth Peripheral Device driver for T420 Thinkpad Windows 7 64bit

Hi Forgany,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

What you can do is uninstall all the Bluetooth application and drivers which you have installed currently and then download and install ThinkVantage system update utility. After the installation restart the system and run the application, this will search for the entire required latest driver for your system.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Hemanth Kumar

The battery on T420 was not charged, and I received a DOS message that the battery was extremely low before the system shutdown. I attached the power cord to the system and attempted to start the computer, but received the same message. So, I removed the battery and attempted to start the computer with just the power cord attached. Unfortunately, the computer did not start. I know some systems require a battery inserted even if the power cord is attached. Is this the case with T420? If not, is this a power cord issue, meaning that I have to purchase a new power cord? Is this a power cord or battery issue, or worse, a power supply controller problem? I am not a hardware guy. Any tips or suggestions appreciated. Thanks.

Hi there. I've just purchased this Thinkpad T420 from a retailer and it has been okay so far. BUT, my bluetooth isn't working. I've gone to the Lenovo support page and downloaded the drivers but they won't install. And when I look in the device manager there is no entry for Bluetooth. To make matters curious, I was able to have bluetooth scan for devices in Windows 7 but it never found any devices. And yes, the devices were turned on so they should have been found and paired by the computer but that did not happen. The devices have been paired with my other laptop, so I know it's not them.I vaguely remember having an issue like this with my Dell and I was able to download a different driver and that settled it. But the two drivers available for my Thinkpad do not install. Is there a way to contact Lenovo via chat or have them remotely access my computer? Any one have any suggestions?

A:T420 - Bluetooth driver won't install

It sounds like you probably have a model that doesn't have a bluetooth modem.  It was an option on that model, although it can be added later.  I say "probably" because you can also look in the BIOS under security/I-O acess.  If Bluetooth is disabled there, it will look like there is no card.

Hy!I've used my Thinkpad T420 battery charge mode with custom settings: Start charging when below 95% and Stop charging at 99%. Because the battery effectively has never charged full, it cause sudden capacity decreases (for example from 30% discharging to 7%). I got bored to this and changed to automatically optimize battery lifespan. I noticed that every full charge the "Full charge capacity" value decreases. I have charged it 5 times after this settings, and the remaining capacity looks like this: 57.10Wh, 57.05Wh, 57.00Wh, 56.95Wh, 56.85Wh. Is it normal? Is it possible that this setting will kill my battery?

So I have a T420 I5-2520M no dgpu, and its fan sometimes work and sometimes doesn't, what I mean is when I try booting it and if the fan didnt spin, it wont spin at all as in 0rpm, even at maximum load it wont spin, even manually at TPFANCONTROLL it wont spin, so I have to trial and error on boot until it spins, on and off until it boot while the fan spins, My hypothesis is the power? or the battery it self?? cause it saying that I should consider replacing the battery, also because when Im using SSD, the fan works fine, but when I use hdd the problem happens, #2 temps, temps are always above 60C even idle and above 90C at load, 93-97, I already repasted cleaned the fan, I don't know what else I need to do, but it doesn't shutdown, when staying at like 90+ C, like when I play games it stays at 96-98C but it doesnt shutdown or anything fail because of overheating, is this normal, I know its not but is it? sometimes it even reachezs 100CAANOTHER THING: Should the fan pull air from outside or push the air from inside, cause when I try to put my hand on the exhayst there\es little to no air coming out, even at max rpm.

Anything less than full brightness (1 to 14) gives me a completely dark screen i.e. a blank screen showing nothing as if the laptop was switched off.I have upgraded the BIOS, the graphic driver (Intel HD driver) and the Hotkey integration utility. But this brightness problem still persists - i.e. only full brightness works or a dark screen with anything less than full brightness.Any suggestion is welcome.

The T420 isn't officially supported by Lenovo for Windows 10. It should still install and run fine, but you'll need to source your own Windows 10 compatible drivers from OEM sites. There are also driver aggregator sites out there like station-drivers (French, but the download button is obvious).

Hi, the speaker on my tasklist does show the speaker symbol with an red x. When I move over then I get the message that no audio device is installed. When I do a click on the speaker symbol the automatic problem analysis is started and I get the message that I haveto restart the computer. But it does not work Here are some observations : -when I shutdown the TP at the end of the process I here a beep. So the speakers work. - at some point in time in the past ( I do not know exactly when ) I have seen this speaker symbol with the red x. When I did the actions as mentioned above after a reboot the speaker worked well. When I did a restart again the speaker didn't work. I could do this for some time. Then this also didn't worked. - Then I have re installed the TP ( I have an upgrade from windows 7 -> windows 10). I used my initial windows 10 backup right after the upgrade. After the system backup had been installed I had the same speaker problems. Then the automatic windows update downloaded new files. When I restarted the TP after this process the speaker worked well again. When I restarted the TP again after a while the speaker didn't worked. Now I have given up and write these lines Any idea ?

I upgraded to Win 10 via Windows update.  All went well, everything worked fine, but I did later find out that Lenovo isn't supporting T420 with driver updates for Win 10.  While Windows 10 was still installed, I looked at the driver support page for the T420, Win 10 is not listed as an option in the drop down of OSs.  Accepting this, and not wanting to run into problems later down the road with future Win 10 updates, I rolled back to Win 7Pro.  Now I don't think I have a straight answer on whether the T420 actually is supported under Win 10 or not.  The first thing I did after rolling back was to go to the Lenovo driver support page.  Now it shows windows 10 in the drop down as a supported OS.  What's up with that?  I've looked in the forums and elswhere online and every indication is that the T320 is not officually supported.  Lenovo does not list it as supported.  But yet now Windows 10 drivers are listed for the T420, but only when I'm running Windows 7Pro, not when I'm running Windows 10.  I'm assuming that the website is autodetecting my current OS.  I can't make heads or tails of it.  I'd like to go back to Windows 10, but given the confilcing info from Lenovo...Anyone have any suggestions.

Hello fellow board members, recently I have bought a 2nd hand T420 laptop which is an absolute super device! The previous owner left me a clean windows 10 installation. After reading up on the hardware and the upgrade options, I decided to order a bluetooth daughter card (FRU 60Y3303 60Y3305) . I installed it, but the new bluetooth does not appear in the device manager. Has anyone had succes with getting it to work? ( i have tried a usb bluetooth dongle and this works perfectly, but i want to have the usb port free for other stuff) I have tried:- enabling/disabling bluetooth in the bios I/O menu- scanning for hardware changes in the device manager- pressing fn-f5 (this turns on airplane mode, but no bluetooth)- installing fn key shortcuts- installing power manager (installation seems succesfull, but no lenovo software shows up in the startup tab of msconfig)- installing legacy device from the device manager and manually adding the broadcom drivers - installing the lenovo bluetooth drivers (install cancels because it cannot find a bluetooth device)- Turning on the bluetooth service in services.msc- removing the battery, pressing the power button 15sec, putting the battery back, resetting bios to default. I have contacted the seller of the bluetooth card, but they do not seem to know what the problem can be. I now have the choice of getting a replacement card or a refund.  Does anyone know what the problem can be?

A:Is it possible to clean install windows xp on ThinkPad T420 Intel Core i7-2640 2.80GHz 8 GB DDR3 RAM

Lenovo shipped the T420 with Windows XP 64-bit installed, and still provides drivers for XP on its support site for the T420, so I see no reason why not.

After reinstalling WinXP I then installed all relevant drivers. Everything was working well. Then I updated Windows. After sp3, everything still good. But after installing over 20 more Win updates, when rebooted I get the Blue Screen : STOP: 0x000000EA. Specifying that nv4-disp is in an infinite loop.
I've found suggested solutions that tell me to uninstall & reinstall the nv4-disp driver, but since it worked well until the updates I'm thinking that the problem is with one of those updates.
Anybody got any thoughts on this??

A:Solved: Driver problem or Windows problem??

Sounds like the nvidia video driver got corrupted.
Uninstall it,in safe mode if needed and install the latest.

Recently, the WiFi on this particular laptop has been sub-par. Downloading the same file, the WiFi downloads at the rate of 70 kbps (pretty bad) while the Ethernet cable is at 700 kbps ~ 1000 kbps. I know that the Ethernet is almost always faster than the WiFi but the discrepancies are just jarring. I also noted that the signal strength is at maximum so distance isn't an issue. This isn't the case with other devices, such as my phone's WiFi speed, where I can stream HD Youtube videos with no problem.

Possible culprits:

Software:

Whenever I use Intel Driver Update Utility to attempt to fix the problem, it shows that I need to update my WiFi driver and my Bluetooth driver. The weird thing is that after I downloaded and installed those updates, it says that I need to install those same drivers after re-scanning for updates. This tells me that there's something fishy with this laptop's wireless drivers software-wise.

Hardware:

I have an Intel Wireless Dual Band AC 8260 as my wireless driver. I'm not really familiar with these, but I heard somewhere that there are certain frequency speeds (5 GHz, etc...) that need to be configured in order for the driver and the router to be compatible. The weird thing is that I've been using my laptop for 3 months now and it didn't have a problem until two weeks ago, which makes me think that this is a software problem.

Thanks for your help in advance!

A:Weird Intel Driver Update Utility problem? (Wi-Fi driver problem)

Are you on the first Win 10 or the Anniversary version. I noticed when I upgraded with a clean install with anniversary that some drivers are updated to Microsoft installed drivers but aren't 100% compared the first Windows 10 (non insider version) Even with severely outdated drivers all the driver dates are inside Windows are really off. They didn't fix something with drivers and updating them. Nothing extreme but its gonna give some people issues on older machines. I think with insiders earlier on Anniversary are using newish type PC's. My laptop is a 2013 model and nothing special but fully updated/optimized it amazes me. So its gonna take some trial and error with drivers.

I'm trying to install a new printer, Epson Workforce 545.
First I couldn't get the print spooler to work. This was finally solved (after 4 months of me trying) with the help of Print Spooler Fix Wizard for $39.00.
Now I'm getting multiply "copy errors", i.e. "setup cannot copy the file, E_JM1HWA.VIF".
This appears to be a driver agent problem (C:\WINDOWS\system32\DRVSTORE\E_JF1HWA_6714B26BE6E918D1EBFB0F0AF1D07170B0A6AA7C).
I'm running UniBlue Drive Scanner 2013, which says everything is OK.
If I continue install without this agent, I get 10 more copy errors.
HELP !

You would download the driver from the Epson site: Epson WorkForce 545, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc.

I had windows 7 on my laptop. Everything was fine. Since last summer, Microsoft drove me crazy with KB 3035583 which told me to upgrade to windows 10. I used to uninstall this update and hide it, but after a while it was back again like T-1000 in the movie Terminator. So, now, this summer, I decided to do a clean installation to windows 10. After the installation I deal with many various problems, like denial of shutting down, no driver for SM Bus controller and other devices, and more. The OS is fully updated.  I did a search for windows 10 driver for my laptop and I discovered that my new OS is not supported. I downloaded "Intel Driver Update Utility" which found a new chipset driver. Downoladed it, tried to installed, failed with "unknown error". I did a search for that, I found that Intel recommends to "check with the manufacturer of the device to look for possible solutions on this". So, I am asking you: what should I do?

A:Driver problem with Windows 10

If you intention is to stick with a newer operating system, then it is recommended to upgrade to a more modern notebook.  Otherwise you should downgrade back to the original OS. Neither HP nor Intel have any plans to provide drivers for the Intel PM45 chipset that is integrated into your systemboard. That is unfortunate, but your notebook is about five years old. It is past the three year point of upgrading driver support that HP will provide.
