New Toshiba Lap Top is slow

Q: New Toshiba Lap Top is slow

I have a toshiba laptop that is about 9 months old. It is running so slow, expecially when it comes to gaming. I am not tech savy. I've read through some of the threads concerning this kind of problem and it means nothing to my poor brain.

I need an uncomplicated (or fool proof) way to get my system back to its origional speed and a way to maintain it.

thanks in advance for the help.

Preferred Solution: New Toshiba Lap Top is slow

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hoping someone will be able to help me here. I have a Toshiba Satellite notebook that's been locking up and crashing anytime I open programs. I have tried various anti virus programs and even restore points but nothing seems to resolve this. Have had this problem for 2 years now. I do play Mafia Wars frequently, but can only play that in "safe mode" which seems to be the only mode I can use without it crashing.

I was referred to you guys from another user. Thanks.

Is your Toshiba running the same OS as shipped with it?

Have you thought about trying to update the drivers?

Toshiba = https://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/pubLogin.jsp (No login needed for drivers, only the forums)

What is the model?

I would backup anything you would hate to lose just in case before doing anything.

I would also suggest running a hard drive diagnostic and a memory test.

This Seagate test should work on your hard drive.

I just got my TOSHIBA computer yesterday july 29th, 2009. The thing that i don't get is that whenever i turn it on, it takes about 3-4 minutes to load up and i havent installed anything yet. The things that are installed are the toshiba programs and some of them are too large and are annoying. So i want to know if i can delete some of them One of the program that is large and i feel like deleting is... Windows driver Package-TOSHIBA (FwLnk) system..." it is 3.5 gbs large. My specs are...
HDD: 500GB
Processor: Intel core 2 Duo P7350 (2.0GHz)
Video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Computer Model: TOSHIBA Satellite A505-S6965

So any help is appreciated to make my new laptop faster i gained 11.52 gb using Tune-up... So that was kinda helpful.

Try Disk Cleanup, then do a Disk Defragmenter in safe mode. For faster start up, go to start, run, type "msconfig", go to the start up tab and uncheck the programs you do not use. Also you might need more RAM. 512MB-1GB for XP, 2GB for Vista. If your hard drive is nearly full, that could slow you down. For spyware, viruses, trojans, etc. Try an online virus scan like www.trendmicro.com/housecall

I have a TOSHIBA Satellite Laptop. I have installed games and programs that have slowed my computer down tremendously! It is slow to start up, to start programs (internet explorer, microsoft works, AOL games....)
I'm thinking it's spyware, but nothing seems to work to fix it.

Can you help me?

About a couple of weeks ago I realised my laptop was very slow in starting up. (cold boot).

When I logged into the laptop, there was no change in the slowness.

I decided to backup all my data and do a lowlevel format (using maxtor utility) on the hard disk and then reinstalled Win & Office 2000.

Everything seem OK during installation, but I have to say the slowness is still here and looks like it is here to stay.

can any one please come forward and tell me what I should do.

Hello everyone,

I own a Toshiba Satellite C660D-10D laptop (2010 model) for 2 years (bought it brand new) with the specifications :

OS : Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
CPU : AMD V140
RAM : 2,00 GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 513MHz
Motherboard : TOSHIBA PWWAE (Socket M2/S1G1)
Graphics Card : ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 Series @2.3GHz
Sound Card : Realtek High Definition Audio

Few weeks ago I restored it to its factory settings via the Recovery partition (it was running really slow before that, couldn't even run chrome properly). At fisrt laptop was running extremely good, just as the first time I bought it, but after 2 or 3 days it started to slow down again. I ran defragment again, Iobit's Advanced System Care 6 (which is very useful program), Ccleaner etc., BUT still it is responding really slow, especially when it comes to browsers (I primarily use Chrome) and games (I am now playing games to 05-15 fps). Forgot to mention that I am often monitoring laptop's CPU (and RAM) usage through Windows' Task Manager. CPU's amount of power is extremely high (86-100%) when system is idle (only the basic programs and/or processes running), which is strange to me (or am I wrong?). Really strange too is the fact that basic opened processes are over 70 (checked multiple times few minutes after startup). Is slow performance a problem caused of the processes and/or other programs, or I have to buy and install new CPU and/or increase RAM capacity??

A:Really slow toshiba laptop

I think it's a combination of the small ram (2GB) and programs you have starting at boot time.

How does it run if you boot to Safe Mode with Networking?

I have a Toshiba QOSMIO X500 with 8GB ram, 1.2GB nvidia and Win& home premium.
I use a Logitech wireless mouse m325.
My problem is that the mouse and cursor stop a few minutes after startup from hibernation or cold start.
You can move the mouse on the pad and after a few seconds or more the cursor moves, I have tried using the touch pad instead but same reaction.

Is this an indexing function or something else. I use AVG antivirus and run CCleaner periodically .

Another problem that may or may not be related is that the graphic driver just stops for a fraction of a second and error meassage says that it has stopped but recovered ok.
Is this a heat related problem or a TOSHY QUIRK.

Cheers from Sunny Australia , Graham

Hi, I got home Wednesday night from work and my computer has been REALLY slow. It also hangs for no foreseeable reason ever since and I've also noticed I/O errors when attempting to back up certain audio files on my external.
Example: "Error 0x8007045D: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error." (when attempting to move one specific .wav file)

Also, a new symptom that has recently and currently been making itself aware to me is: while typing this thread the prompt randomly moves around at unpredictable times, usually resulting in finishing or starting a word in a random undesired location within the post. Hard to explain really, but i thought i would include it, because it is extremely annoying and thus seems virus-ey. Sounds to me like some program is stealing priority, my friend thinks it's Windows Update.

About 8 hours prior to this slow/hanging activity (before i left for work), it was working fine, though i did notice similar hanging-like activity localized solely in Google maps.

What i've done so far:
- backed up important files on my external
- ran process explorer and checked the CPU, RAM, and I/O usage to find nothing out of the ordinary (low cpu, normal RAM usage, low i/o usage)
- ran a virus scan using Microsoft Security Essentials

I'm at a loss as to what i can do at this point; it's unbearably slow...i can't ... Read more

Your case is a little strange.
How about the notebook run if you disconnect your external disk?

If possible, try diagnostic startup mode:
Click Start > Run, enter "msconfig" and click OK. The System Configuration will be displayed.
On the "General" tab, you will see 3 startup options and select "Diagnostic startup" and click OK. Your system will be restarted in diagnostic startup mode to see if it runs faster.

It constantly freezes and seems to be over loaded while running. I had this same issue while using it in Iraq for a year. I have guided her to clean up disk space, stop start up programs, deleted cookies, etc. . . Does anyone know how to help her speed this mini laptop up?? Also I am looking to buy another laptop with a max budget of 2500, I need a biometric scanner built in with a webcam, any suggestions??? I have always been fond of the Sony Vaios. Could the problem be dust? Check the vents for dust, hair & other debris. Do NOT blow air INTO the computer.

When did the computer last work well? When did the problem begin? Sometimes the exact date is important.

What changed; a hardware or software installation or removal; an update to W7 [ check your W7 update history ] or update to your anti malware or other antimalware program / programs ]; an update to Java or an Adobe program for example?

Do you refer to overall computer performance or internet surfing performance?

If overall performance, start the computer in safe mode. Report the results.

If surfing performance, use IE9 with no add ons.
start > programs / all programs > accessories . system tools > IE9 no add ons.

Hey I just bought a desktop and decided to get a Toshiba laptop with it because we have a wireless router and I thought the laptop would be nifty. But it's so damn slow. It's slower than even my old Windows 98 Gateway pc. I'll let the Dxdiag speak for me.

As you can see it has less rhan 512mb of RAM and it's running Vista of all things. The processor is pretty crap too. The dude who sold it to me said I could "take stuff off of it" to speed it up. What sort of stuff could I turn off to make it run anywhere near an acceptable speed; like services, applications, processes.

If you guys have a way could you explain it in a bit of detail as I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to this stuff.

Many thanks in advance.

Hi All

I have a Toshiba NB200 it’s a tiny notebook used about four times before been stored away, for 3+ years, it has Windows 7 starter 32 bit on it, presuming this is a light version of Windows 7, it has 2 gig of ram, it was given to me.

I have given it a clean out, but the computer still is as slow as watching grass grow, for example, when I open windows explorer, the page opens, then along the path line a green line comes up and it moves across and I cannot access that page till it’s finished, it does not take forever or anything but a lot slower then I have seen any notebook take

The processor is a Intel Atom NB280 1.6GHz 1.67GHZ
It has service pack 1 loaded on to it.

I was wondering if I loaded Windows 7 Pro on to it, (just going to be used for email and surfing the net) would that slow it down even further? It has, apart from an anti virus and Office 2007 I have not loaded anything else on it.

I was thinking of deleting some of the office programs and just installing some of the more common ones there e.g. Email, Excel, Word.

I know 32 bit can see up to 3. Something of ram, but found out the mother board can only take up to its current ram

Any tips and ideas to speed it up enough to just open pages strait away would be appreciated
Or would I have to get another motherboard in there for it to be faster?
Thanks in advance

Are you still having this problem? If so, do the following:
Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop

Please double-click TFC.exe to run it. (Note: If you are running on Vista, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Here or Here

Double Click mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart.(See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Lo... Read more

All of my laptops have taken about that long. Never bothered me. Does the system work okay once it's up and running? If it's really a problem for you just disable as many startup items as you like. I think it's time for you to get yourself a new PC, my brother uses a PII 350 with 64mb RAM for his work and I often hear him yelling through his wall that it's too slow or has buggered up/crashed for some reason. Look on Ebay for a good cheap one, it sounds like you use yours for work. ANything with 256mb RAM and a processor of at least 1ghz (for value for money) will be more than capable. It could be that loads of crap has been left behind by WIn95 in the install of 98. Did you format the hard drive before you installed it?

I just started using a new Toshiba laptop. Trouble is, opening and closing programs and browsing is slower then I feel it should be. Pages that loaded in 5 seconds on my old machine are taking 10 seconds on this new one, and opening programs causes a good 5 second delay. Also, once a webpage has finally loaded, scrolling jumps rather than move smoothly. Multiple tabs cause quite a bit of hanging as well.

The machine doesn't seem to be under stress, no fans kicking in or anything like that. But it's just not as quick as it should be. I've disabled a lot of things on startup that weren't required, and even turned off transparency in case it was hogging resources. I run AVG antivirus and Comodo Firewall. Any advice?

A:Toshiba Laptop now runs VERY slow...

Hi, I've been browsing these forums for a while, but since I've never had to ask a question, I only browse through the answers to help me get what i needed.

My problem : Last year, I bought a Toshiba Satellite A60 on boxing day because I needed to have an affordable laptop for school. I had had desktops for 15+ years at that point and I was used to open my own boxes to modify/upgrade/whatever. As far as laptops went though, i was/am still mystified.

The main specs of the laptop go as follow, it's 2.8 celeron with 256 RAM running XP (SP2). The problem is, it's INCREDIBLY slow. It's amazing. Sometimes, it takes up to 5 minutes to boot. It's never below 3-4 minutes. I mean, I know I wasn't buying a beast but there are limits. When booted up, for exemple, it takes between 1-2 minutes to load word and sometimes more.

I tried to modify the services and the boot sequence as much as I could so it would go faster, but with limited success. I managed to disable all the toshiba crap that used to load up (although now, i can't seem to get it back on for battery purposes, but that's another problem and I never use the battery anyway).

I tried to see what I could do according to Toshiba, but as usual, with its cheaper products, there was no answer. I used all the generic online help about laptops, going so far as taking out the background picture... etc.

So now, I don't really know what to do. I can't believe that a 2.8 processor ... Read more

Hello there!

I've been reading the thread in this website and I have found it very helpful.

I want to ask help about my problem, it's been 2 weeks since my netbook suddenly becomes very slow.
It's almost 3 months old
Windows 7 starter 32 bit
Processor: Intel (R) Atom(TM) CPU N2600 1.60GHz
RAM: 2gb

I noticed it first while opening browsers (mozilla, chrome, safari, explorer), I have tried to reinstall those but still the same. But during those time I can log in my 3d game without any problem. The following day it gets worse, browser slower and the game didnt load anymore. I have tried running a virus (tried avg and avast) scanned and the result was clean. I search on the net and found about the malware bytes, downloaded and scanned my system using it and found a trojan agent. It was removed but still the same. I have asked a friend for help, and I was told to try system restore but still the same. I have also tried (with help of my friend using Teamviewer) CCleaner, Windows 7 Manager and deleted those unnecessary programs. I have check at the windows site and have fix problem with the firewall and i am using Windows Security Essentials. Now it is a little bit okay I can open browser but still slow. I want it to be like what it was before, kindly suggest or recommend things to do. It is very frustrating, even opening a social media site takes long, sometimes I feel like throwing it on the floor LOL...

PS: I am running super antispyware.

Thank you for reading.

Hello everyone and happy holidays. Thank you for allowing me to join this forum.
My problem is this:
Toshiba, 8.1
I have a Toshiba laptop that is not yet 1 year old. I don't use it much, but have noticed that, when I download software, it is very slow.....DSL slow. I use Comcast and have a desktop (4 yrs old), which downloads speedily, so Comcast is not the problem.
How can I determine which software loaded on to my laptop is mucking things up? Lots of Norton products were downloaded on to that laptop. Wondering if Norton could be the problem.  I need to get this fixed as I cannot download under these circumstances and don't want to stress the laptop.
Thank you very much for any help.

Good afternoon. I have a Toshiba Laptop, model C55D with 4gb of Ram. It has started running very slow, especially when loading a web page. In the lower left corner it shows a lot of things going on, not sure what to call them. I saw one that said adclick. It goes by so fast I can't read them. There's so many that it takes a while. I've run Malwarebytes, CCleaner and superantispyware. I'm using Charter Security Suite and it cannot find a virus. I honestly can't figure out what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Toshiba Laptop is slow with a lot of activity showing

Hi have you right clicked your task bar and gone in control panel and the programs and features look for that adclick and if you did not install it then remove it and see it your laptop starts quicker.
Have you downloaded any new programs that come as a bundle as it may of come with that.
if you did see if the date you installed your new program is the same as the adclick also see if there is any others showing that you don't remember putting in.
Once you have removed them rerun CCleaner and that should remove all the obsolete files

I post the specific model of my sis' Netbook which runs really slow after installing a new windows 7 on it. It runs good on Starter but I decided to upgrade it on professinal. Reformatted everything then fresh install on it. It runs so slow. It doesn't even hit 100% CPU nor eat all the ram. It freezes for 20seconds or more every minute.

Plus, I cannot install a graphics driver. I don't really know but it says it doesn't meet minimum requirements of a laptop.

Hello. I'm having trouble with my Laptop Toshiba Satellite C855-S5206 it has Windows 7.
4GB DDR3 1333MHz memory
500GB HDD (5400rpm, Serial ATA)

It takes like 5 to ten minutes to start and I've already tried to clean it with CCleaner and
with the msconfig, and it did nothing. and it's just in the start and when it goes to sleep,
but besides of that, the computer is running normal.
Also I've the antivirus and I don't have any malware or virus :/ Ineed some help.

A:Laptop Toshiba is slow on start up Windows 7

1) CCleaner does absolutely nothing to effect performance

2) msconfig is a diagnostic utility. It should not be used for other purposes.

3) What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

4) How long does it take to boot to safe mode?

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 which takes a very long time to connect to my home network. It detects other networks like my neighbor's but for like 10 mins it can't detect mine. Sometimes it doesn't even connect and I have to restart it several times to connect to my home network. I have a WBR-1310 d-link router which i think is working fine because i get my home connection on my nintendo ds instantly. I have contacted my router company and they have run out of options and tell me that there is a problem with my laptop. Sometimes when it is connected it just disconnects and when I click connect to a network it can'e find any networks until I restart. I have also tried changing settings on the router configuration page of the router. There is a wireless network adapter installed called Atheros.

If u have any suggestions please answer. Thank you. Answer asap plz...

I want my laptop computer ro run faster and cooler. It has been slowing down and heating up since the past three weeks. Internet explorer is freezing very easily and more frequently. And windows explorers and the start menu have a significant pauses before appearing. When I initially startup the computer, svchost.exe runs at 345k. No BSOD's yet. No error screens, however I fear they are coming.

According to Speccy, my disk drive is at 50C Degrees which is warm and not good. My fan has been running a lot more lately and I am concerned.

I found a similar thread on the forum and so I followed the advice. I just ran the CCleaner Slim, Speccy and Process Explorer.

Here's the Speccy http://speccy.piriform.com/results/rqlK6wJNf80BTQepMTESR2u

And attached is process explorer text file.

Thank you in advance!

A:Toshiba laptop running warm & slow

I'm not sure if this will help, but you could buy some cooling pads from any shop that sells technology and all that stuff. It's a disk, with a usb attached to it. Just plug in the usb into your laptop and it will cool your computer. I'm not sure how that works because I've never used one myself, but they do work in some way or other.
But I know that the speed of you computer depends on the heat of it. The pads might help a bit.

Just purchased a new Laptop with Windows 8. I have all issues that users have been experiencing post upgrade including SLOW internet, SLOW bootup, SLOW when opening folders, Unresponsive, CNTL ALT DEL does not respond often for 5 minutes, Does not open many standard format files including zip and pdf without crashing although system does not indicate any pending updates.
My productivity reduced by a factor of 10 at minimum. Disappointed is an understatement.

I recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite x205-s9349 with the following specifications:

-Intel Duo Core T7100 At 1.8GHz
-Vista Home Premium
-Nvidia 8700m GT with 256mb Dedicated
-4Gbs of ram
-2x120gb Harddrives

Here is the problem:

When i bought the computer it was all gravy, everything was good, i could run the following games:

-Assassin's Creed (Max Details)
-Gears of War
-Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
-Crysis (Medium Details)
-Unreal Tournament 3 (Max Details)

but then i realised the laptop monitor had a dead pixel so i returned the laptop to the people i bought it from immediately and they replaced it and offered to switch my hard drive around.

So i waited and this new one came, but unfortunately it seems to be slower by quite a bit in terms of game performance compared to the other one i had. I even read tweaking guides on this forum and did some of those to increase performance but it didn't work. I also updated my graphics driver but i don't think it installed properly. I defraged the harddrive and also used Crap Cleaner but still nothing, i have also disabled UAC and transparency of vista glass and scanned my computer for viruses and spyware etc but nothing.

Games like Assassin's Creed lags lots even when the detail is turned down but before it would be fine on high, Crysis is a NIGHTMARE, Call of Duty runs alrightish but not ideal and Gears of War is laggy.

Also, the start menu is VERY slow, i have to wait 2 secs when i click on a fol... Read more

So I purchased a 1TB Toshiba Automatic Backup Portable Hard Drive - Burgundy (PH2100U-1EWR) back in December and it worked great. I reformatted it to FAT so I could play all of my movie files on my Playstation 3. One day a few weeks ago, I was streaming a movie and suddenly it got very slow streaming, like slow frame to slow frame with no sound. I plugged the HDD into my computer and it was suddenly slow at looking up files. Some files do not even come up. I am still able to transfer small files from the harddrive to my computer but I seriously have no idea what happens. I get a Short DST fail when I run Seatools For Windows and HD Tune doesn't bring up any results. I lost the receipt for the device and all I have is a online banking record as proof of purchase so I am nervous regarding Toshiba's warrently policy. I would ideally like to fix this on my own and continue using the harddrive. I don't care if I have to delete everything on it, I would just like it fixed! Please help thank you.

A:Toshiba 1TB External HDD suddenly slow and full of errors

You can't fix it on your own. You will need to contact Toshiba for warranty replacement and copy off any data you want to keep as they will just send a replacement with nothing on it. If the serial number on the drive comes up as less than a year old then you may not need a receipt but who knows how long it sat on a shelf, it can't try to contact them. If you bought it somewhere where they itemize and store receipts then they may be able to give you a new copy.

Also, you should use Toshiba's diagnostics on the drive: http://storage.toshiba.com/storage-services-support/warranty-support/software-utilities

I need to add this some help would be very much appreciated.
When he asked me to help him the computer would also work for say about 10 min and then what ever you would be doing it would just shut down. If you tried to start it up again it would come on and then turn itself off again but if you let it sit for awhile to cool off it would restart and run for awhile and then shutdown again. I put a cd case under the front of the laptop to let some air under it and that did it . it runs as long as you want it to. I took the case out from under it and in a couple of min it shut down again. and to feel the bottom of the case it was really hot. So it will run if you put something under it. So I went to the Toshiba site and looked up the laptop and found that they have a heat problem with certain kinds of these lap tops that they will shut down. They get so hot in the upper right hand corner that they actually curl up I guess and by the way that is where the fan is under it on the upper right hand corner.(I did check the fan on the bottom and it is working) So I would like someone if they would be so kind as to look on the site where I went and help me to understand if I need a BIOS flash. So they say those laptops need a BIOS Update. but I can figure out if it is mine. I think it is but not sure.

This is what he has his laptop

Computer will hang with mouse pointer only on screen during startup, and takes much longer than before to get from the boot screen to the Windows desktop.  Today, it froze while inputting password, with only the first few keystrokes registering.  Num Lock would turn on and off, but nothing else had response.  Hard shut down, restart, logged in, and screen with loading wheel froze.  Again, Num Lock toggled but no mouse pointer or any other response.  Eventually, it went to the old-school blue background and Start bar, then transitioned to the normal Windows 7 desktop.
I've updated virus definitions, run scan, run Emsisoft Malware scan, 0 results.  I use CCleaner frequently to check startup values and check for registry errors.  I use the Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus.
The computer exhibits other odd behavior, but I read that I'm supposed to post that as a separate topic.
Thanks for your time!

A:Slow/stuck startup, Toshiba Satellite Windows 7

I've updated my MS SE, MBAM, MBAR, and another scanner.  Restarted in safe mode, ran all the scans, 0 items found.  Ran CHKDSK/f, 0 bad sectors.  I used WinPatrol to check all my startup stuff.  Anything marked "U" in the startup list here on BC I moved to delayed start.  During this whole process, I restarted several times as required, and twice got hung up during reboot and had to hard shutdown.  The laptop starts up a little faster now, but is slower while running: explorer takes longer to open up folders, and games are much choppier and laggy.
