Preferred Solution: How to replace battery on Lenovo Ideapad Z500 laptop?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys,

I am a member of the sevenforums and currently have a win8 laptop so thought I'd sign up here (seems to be the same people behind both forums).

I'm having a little trouble and would really appreciate some feedback.

My Lenovo ideapad z500 had 2 keys (K and I) that stopped working (they worked on the touchscreen) and then after that the delete, 8, and arrow keys topped working. Not sure why.

Before I get the keyboard replaced I'm wondering if it could be something else? There's no water damage and I haven't dropped it so I'm confused. I was told it has to be water damage but maybe 1 drop from the condensation on a glass of water is all I can think that may have affected it.

Would be great for some input on this issue.

Thanks!

A:Laptop Keys Stopped working - Lenovo Ideapad Z500 Win8

I was told it has to be water damage

Not true. In fact, water in the keyboard normally does not cause permanent damage. That is, once the water dries, all works again - most of the time. But that does depend on many variables - type of keyboard membrane, how much water, if just water (no sugars or cream, for example), and how much dust, dirt, oily hair/dander, cigarette smoke, cookie crumbs, etc. are under the keys when the water was spilled. The greater damage generally comes when the water works it way through the keyboard and into the computer's electronics.

I would try a regular PC keyboard first to see what happens. If all the keys work properly with a standard USB keyboard, then you can be pretty certain it is the notebook keyboard at fault, and not something more serious.

A:Lenovo Z500: Replace HDD with SSD

hi Noble,

Welcome to the Lenovo Community.

The Lenovo Z500's HDD can be upgraded to an SSD drive but it's a bit tricky to replace (see page 41 on the hardware maintenance manual on how to replace the HDD).

Getting an SSD drive will greatly speed overall performance like the 2.5 SATA III SSD Vertex 4, and especially if you make it as a primary drive and install the Operating System and frequently accessed softwares / files there. You can still use the 2.5 SATA HDD by using an external 2.5 SATA enclosure or sacrifice your ODD by putting the HDD there by getting a 9.55mm HDD Caddy (you can get a 9.5mm ODD Enclosure to still use your ODD).

Hope this helps.

Product key is stored in BIOS, so there is no need to use any app to read it.Download a tool to create bootable media from Microsoft website and install Windows 8.1 using it:https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8 Moreover at first, you may try to restore your Windows 10 to factory state (do a backup of all important data first). Go to Settings -> Recovery -> Reset this PC and select Remove everything.

I have two Lenovo Y40-70 computers that I purchased within a couple weeks of each other.  They came with Windows 8.1 but I upgraded to Windows 10. A few months ago, I noticed that my computer battery meter was reading 100% for an hour.  I continued to work unplugged until the battery died while still reading 100%.  I recharged and the battery again read 100% for more than a couple hours, then died.  So the battery lifetime is as good as always, but the reading is not right.  When I reboot, it still reads 100%. Strangely, the second system, whcih I had not used for a while, was OK, but a few days later, it started doing the same thing (though it was reading 87%, the charge when the computer last worked right.  I suscpect that this happened after a critical update, which the second system went through later. Recently, I downloaded from the Lenovo website the newer power management software on both computers, and it did not help. Then I noticed the Battery recall so downloaded the "Lenovo Battery Utility 2015" to see if my system was afffected by the problem.  When I run the utility, I get the mssage "No Battery Detect."  So it would appear that there may be an issue with the software detecting the batter. Since I can't know the state of the battery (it appears to not want to recharge until it's empty, I gues because it thinks it's 100% charged), I cannot count on this computer when it's not plugged in. Now I ... Hi CuriousFox ,

Greetings.

To isolate fastest is to have another battery to use or charging the original battery on a known working compatible laptop.
The power checkout guide of the hardware machine manual provides steps to check battery charging integrity (example form Z510 manual page 21) .

You can also try plugging the laptop but not turning it on for 1-2 hours checking if there would be changes with the battery indicator LED.

Would it be the same using similar energy manager and operating system that came originally with the machine?
How is the battery health and battery report?

Update us how it goes.

Hello, I've had my ideapad z500 for exactly 4 years last month, 4 years in which it worked perfectly (except for the brightness problem that seems to plague this model and had me recover the whole system evry time I accidentally lowered brightness) It still works perfectly, but 3 days ago it suddenly started whirring and vibrating. The vibration seems even throughout the laptop, but the sound seems to come form the left side (again, I can't really tell).First time it happened, I freaked out and force-shut it down (holding the power button). This made the whirring stop, but when I started it again, it resumed. Again, i stopped the machine and I started trying to unscrew everything I found (I mean, it's been 4 years, so I assume I had no warranty anyway), but I couldn't really open anything, so i put back the 9 screws. I mention this because, apparently, me turning it on all sides must've done something to it, because after starting the laptop again, there was no sound. The next days it worked just fine.Today, however, it started again. I didn't close it immediately and I continued using it some 3 minutes (and except for the sound and vibration, everything was working perfectly), hoping that it will go away, but it didn't and I turned off the laptop. Other details that might be important:-while I normally use the laptop for cpu-intensive tasks, this occured in a week when I distinctively didn't do anything other than text editing and web browsing. Hello. First of all, thank you for taking the time to view my post and potentially help me out. So the problem is that my laptop will not start. I was using my laptop here one day and it was working fine, but it was unable to charge for some reason and ended up shutting down so I went to bed. The next morning I tried turning it on, but it was dead. I have tried a different charger as my sister also has a lenovo laptop, but this did not work either. I would think if the battery was the problem, the laptop should still be working with the charger in? I have tried calling support line several times with no answer, the warranty has gone out and I forgot where i bought the laptop sadly. Really frustrated over here, and any help is highly appreciated!

You can try testing individual key specially FN and spacebar if it is working.

Turn off the machine and disconnect the ac charger and battery if you have the tools.
Press down the power button for 12 seconds to drain flea power.
Place back the battery and connect the ac charger.
Restart to check if backit keyboard works ( test further with FN + spacebar pressing 2-4 times).

There is a setting in lenovo energy management which limits the battery charge limt to 60% and there after stop charging tilll battery level falls down to around 55%. This is the battery protection mode(In some laptop it is optimize for battery life or similar). Just open energy management and go to battery settings by clicking the icon. Then select the mode and voila!!

Hello, I started having an issue with my z500 laptop and here is how it went. First I updated my laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1, then after the update was finalizied I shut my laptop down, then next day I woke up and attempted to use my laptop it used to open but the screen was fully blank. I can hear the fans moving and the laptop was on but it had no cursor and the screen seemed off. I read online that you had to connect it to a computer and manually alter the settings there, my computer was not functioning that time so I decided to leave it till later and use this laptop as an alternative. 3 weeks passed and when I attempted to open it it did not respond at all. No fans running, no blinking, nothing at all, dead. I tried to charge it it still didn't work, I left it overnight charging still nothing. I opened up the laptop removed my battery and put it back in after 1 minute still no difference. I've literally removed my battery 3 times and tried all I can to fix the laptop yet it isn't even charging. I am thinking this could be because I haven't installed the Battery manager or battery firmware for Lenovo when updating to 8.1 but I am not sure. Please help me open my laptop I have a lot of work there that can't be thrown away. Thanks!

This is with light usage, Reddit, a little bit of youtube etc. CPU usage was mostly around 0-5% the entire time. This was with the max CPU state in power settings reduced from 100% to 85%. However, I do have the screen at 100% brightness. As a different test, I tried doing (almost) nothing (apart from keeping the screen bright), and got 6 hours out of the battery. Is there a simple solution to increase this? It's only a 30 Wh battery (2 cell). Maybe in the future, a 60 Wh (4 cell?) one will come out for this model?

RELEVANCY SCORE 69.2

Hi Guys,I have a Lenovo ideapad Z510 (built-in battery) using windows 10 and Lenovo vantage is installed. How can i perfom a gauge battery reset please? The problem i'm facing now is that the battery percentage isn't accurate, it stucks at a percentage for example 99% , so the system doesn't recognise that the battery drains and suddenly it dies !! without any alerts or keeping my work as well !!i tried the firmware update tool but it keep saying that no updates for attached battery. And i searched alot about how to perform a gauge reset but nothing available for this version of lenovo vantage. I also tried charging in BIOS mode for 10 mins and discharging for another 10 and repeating this process 3 times but nothing changed. So please any help!
