Can not access Microsoft updates and error upon login

Q: Can not access Microsoft updates and error upon login

Hello,
I have a relatively new install of windows because I formatted a few weeks ago so I had a clean start with my new hardware. The only problem it seems is before I could get antivirus and things patched a virus or something caught me.

I dont think my computer is updating anymore and some applications have recently started to crash and my computer has sporadically turned off a few times this week and the temps were fine so i know it was not that.

I can not get to the microsoft update website, because when I try to go there firefox will open and direct me to the site.

I was getting an error on startup saying rundll32 could not find a file that AVG deleted and the files was called dll32 and sm. I will work on finding out what it used to be called.

I have an application called Prio installed which is a great extension to task manager that expands it abilities and it showed that I have unsigned versions of svchost, alg, and wimprvse running and some other unverified processes that are running under system.
The other suspicious proccess is unsecapp.exe

There are also quite a few open connections sitting on listen for my computer if needed I can put up a wireshark analysis.

Right now I have AVG, ad-aware, a-squared, and Secunia PSI installed.
A-squared pick up some files that AVG seemed to miss yesterday when I installed it so that got me concerned with AVG.

Thank you in advance.

Preferred Solution: Can not access Microsoft updates and error upon login

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For example http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3021917 takes me to https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=...1033&id=288908
I have checked it in Windows 7 64 bit fully patched and tried Firefox and IE11 and also on another computer running Windows XP also fully patched
I ran a full virus check with Kaspersky and Malwarebytes which didn't flag anything up
However my Windows 7 machine is dual boot with Vista which is way out of date as I never use it and trying in Vista it doesn't redirect but takes me to the support site
I have tried starting in safe mode with Windows 7 and that didn't help neither did removing all relevant cookies or disabling Kaspersky

A:Can't access support.microsoft.com without login at login.live.com

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
Are you looking to upgrade to win-8 or 10 on this machine ?
That particular update is an interesting one,
Pretty much a snoop "if you will" to access and send info back to Microsoft about your machine.

Are you connecting to the internet wirelessly ?
You can always try No add-ons by typing that in the start menu search box to test.
Cheers.

Hi,

I use local accounts on my desktop. I do not want to use Microsoft Accounts.

However, I want to use the Store sometimes. From what I understand I can't just use my Microsoft login directly to get into the store. I have to change my desktop user login from a local one to a Microsoft Account login before I access the store. Am I correct?

If so, when I want to access the store, can I just change my user account type before using the store, then change it back to a local one immediately afterwards? Will changing my user account back to a local one completely disassociate my Microsoft Account from my PC?

Call me paranoid, but I just want to run Microsoft's operating system on my PC. I do not want to have Microsoft synching and otherwise 'controlling' my PC

A:Access store without microsoft account login

I don't think you need to change user account, I'm on my domain user account now, and if I remember well, the first time I go to the Store, it ask me a Microsoft account, I type the user and password of my Microsoft account in the pop up Windows that open and he never ask me again.

I'm also having this problem, it all started when I got an error saying I was a victim of piracy and that my version of vista wasn't genuine; can't validate it online, nor can I access any of the MS forums, hotmail etc. Windows update or defender, or my antivirus can't connect to update but my browser and outlook are fine???

Hello. I have IE8 and Firefox installed and cannot access microsoft updates. This is the message I get on either browser..."Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". Performing a diagnostic ck only states that a problem was not detected. I think I've seen something like this before and it was a supposed virus/malware. I have installed the latest malwarebytes, spyware blaster and SB S&D and nothing is revealed. Either something has been deleted somehow, or something is bugged and I can't find it. I am running the newest Avast and have even stopped it's service, to try to connect, with no help. It is a legal registered XP. I have not had this problem in the past. The following is my log....

Hello, I've exhausted my resources so i'm finally turning to you brilliant people for help! For some reason, I cannot access the Microsoft Updates website either by link or by entering the physical address.

A little background of what happened recently. I don't know how long i've been unable to access the Updates site. This past sunday, i was trying to find some images for a photoshop project. I clicked on one image and when i was directed to the site AVG had a pop up saying that a threat had been quarantined. When i came back a little later I could go directly to websites but google searches, etc were being redirected. So i disconnected from internet and ran a full scan and rootkit scan. it came up with one rootkit threat that was deleted. I had to reboot, when i rebooted i got the blue screen of death. Could't boot in safe mode, etc....so repaired my windows xp via the reinstallation DVD. Had a few problems but once i ran all the automatic updates (only three failed out of 60 something) and fixed a couple things everything seemed like it was running smoothly. Hi there,

I recently reinstalled XP media center edition after realizing that windows vista was just too much of a headache to work with on my originally Xp MC computer. For some time, things have been great, until just recently when I tried to access the microsoft update website to download a simple driver for my 360 controller. I got as far as a screen that said, "your download should begin shortly" or something like that, then the link went dead; in Google chrome, it said it was a broken link, in firefox and IE, it claimed it couldn't display the webpage, like there was no internet. I have access to virtually every website EXCEPT ANY microsoft page that offers downloads for my comp. I chose not to get SP 3 yet because I wanted to continue using Style XP, which I heard didn't work on SP3. Either way, automatic updates worked for some time and I didn't realize till this incident that they had stopped. Although I suspect it might be because I don't have a verified product, I tried an upgrade install with my verified product key and as it was loading, it said a file was missing (if you need the file name, I can try again later and let you know). I'm most worried that it could be a virus that's somehow messing up my computer's access to microsoft. My absolute last resort would end up being a clean install of the whole system again, which I'd like to avoid at all costs. If there's any sort of ideas for what might be going on, and how to fix it, I'd really a... Read more

Hi,

I recently reformatted my PC to factory settings meaning I'm now back with Service Pack 1 and IE6 and since then I've been unable to connect to any Microsoft websites for updates and also can't connect to the Microsoft authorisation link to activate my newly installed Microsoft Word. Any .exe Microsoft download links which I've found posted on other websites do not work for me either.

I've performed scans with Spybot Search and Destroy and each time it brings up the following items:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.AntiVirusOverride
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.SP2Update
Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter.FirewallOverride

However each time I remove these and reboot they keep returning and I'm still unable to connect to the Microsoft website for updates. I've also tried restarting the services via Administrative Tools>Services but this hasn't helped either. Hope someone will be able to help me with this.

Many thanks.

are you able to get onto any websites at all? You might need to install the device driver for your Network Interface Card. You can find this file on another system from the manufacturers website of your computer. Save the file to a disk, CD, Flash drive and install it on formatted machine.

Today I noticed that I could not access the Internet on my Toshiba laptop. It is not the computer I use everyday, so I did not need to get on the 'Net. The last thing I remember doing was Using the Shutdown and install updates command.

To remedy I had to use a Restore point. I used the one for May before the updates. Now there is no problem.

I use Chrome exclusively.

Anything to be worried about in future updates?

Daniel

A:Last Microsoft updates prevented access to 'Net

Install the updates a couple at a time, you may find the culprit if it is an update that caused the problem. It may have been something else that you were doing that caused the problem.

Hello there,

Okay, let me start you off from saying that i have NOT got a genuin Microsoft windows and i, for some unknown reason, enabled Updates for my windows. I was told not to do this because it's not genuin and there is no need. I did this and i installed certain things and now i am unable to access msn, see pictures in Picture Manager, Play online games such as Lord Of The Rings Online. I believe i installed updates that have overlapped what i originally had and... well lets put it this way... currupted it?

So i got help from a friend and he gave me a programme that would change my microsoft windows code to a different one automatically which would then make my windows Genuin. I did this and i installed the Genuin Notification programme from the updates to see if it was now genuin or not, it worked and it's now genuin.

Still had problems, so i uninstalled .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 from add and remove programmes, when i did this, this got rid of other microsoft programmes such as what would be shown with .NET Framework 1.1 SP1 in the add and remove programmes.

I went to the Microsoft Update site and installed .NET Framework 2.0 still problems so i thought, lets look at another computer in the house and see what its got, so i looked and it showed .NET Framework 1.1 SP1. So i installed that, after a while an update arrived to install the Hotfix, or what ever it is. I still have a problem. I can access internet, but cannot access msn, games, pictures, videos, Li... For quite some time now (months), sometimes I can't access any microsoft related website or make a connection with the Windows Update servers. The rest of the internet, if I may say so, works perfect. Occasionally, it works for some time and everything is normal. But the it reverts, the browser showing me Server not found - the browser can't find the server at *insert microsoft site here*

I checked my PC for viruses and malware with Kaspersky 2012, Spyware Doctor, Malwarebytes and Combofix - I have none.

Any ideas how to fix this problem? Is there any chance that microsoft would sometimes block some countries or have bad connectivity? Or it could be a problem with my Romanian ISP?

OK, I've had this problem on two seperate machines.

Machine 1 is an HP with Windows XP Media Center. After a "Windows Update", it continually prompted me that I needed to restart the computer for the updates to install. It gave me the 5:00 countdown, with the option to "Restart Now" or "Restart Later". After it rebooted, suddenly all the users had passwords on their user login, when there wasn't passwords before. We didn't create the passwords, so now we were locked out of the computer. Luckily we had Norton's GoBack on here and were able to go back to before the change occurred.

Machine 2 is a smorgasborg running Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP2. It did the exact same thing as above. I am now locked out of this computer, without even being able to get access to a previous System Restore point. GoBack is not installed on this machine.

The only thing I can think of is that this is a bug with a new Windows Update. Does anyone know if there is some sort of "default" password that will get me back in? I have lots of data on this PC and don't want to wipe it clean and start over.

Hopefully I'm putting this in the right place. I didn't see anything here about this already.

A:Error at login screen after Updates

Do you have a password for the administrator account ?
If not, try this:
At the login screen press Ctrl+Alt+Del two times.
You should now have a login screen where you can type the name of the account you wish to login.
Type administrator and leave password empty, does it work ?
If it works, go in "Add and remove programs" and remove that update.
What is the kb number of the update you're having problems with ?

Hi,

I recently reformatted my PC and now have Internet Explorer 7 and Service Pack 2 but since then I've been unable to access any Microsoft update sites or downloads, when I attempt to I get the usual "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" notifaction. I've also just noticed that I now can't access any anti-virus software sites such as Symantec, McAfee, Malwarebytes etc. The rest of the internet seems to be working and loading up fine however, it's just these vital updates which I can't access. Some other examples are my newly-installed Microsoft Word which I can't connect to the Microsoft Authorisation service to activate it and Windows Media Player which won't search for updates.

I currently have Spybot Search and Destroy and Malwarebytes, though the problem above seems to be preventing Malwarebytes from searching for updates. Also, Spybot Search and Destroy keeps picking up the following line:

Microsoft.WindowsSecurityCenter_disabled

However, even when I remove this and reboot it keeps on returning. Below is a HJT log. Hope someone will be able to help me with this.

Hello,

I am using Windows 7 with Office 2010 on a 3-month old Sony Vaio and had absolutely no problems until I recently downloaded several automatic MS updates (Windows, security, etc ...). Now the content of most websites is inaccessible through Modzilla Firefox and Exporer, through Google Chrome gives me access to a few of them.

The odd thing is that I can get onto most of the websites, but then the content is all skewed to one side and/or the links don't work (or I can't get onto the site at all).

In an attempt to reverse the problem, I started uninstalling some of the recently downloaded updates (unfortunately, there were 40 or 50 in all), but am hesitant to uninstall all of the security updates in the event that they are important and/or may not be the source of the problem.

Any advice (the simpler, the better) would be be much appreciated.

Thanks!

A:Microsoft updates messed up my access to website content

Hello Canadian_Ninja And welcome to TSF,

Generally when updates screw up the system, it's easier to just restore the system to it's previous working state. Every time Windows initiates an update, it creates a restore point that you can go back to, just in case something like this happens.

Go to Start > Search.
Type "rstrui" without the quotes > Hit ENTER.
Choose the restorepoint/date when it previously worked > Restore.

A:Netware error on login - Can't Access Web

I assume your on a Novell network, is that true?

What Network components are installed? Start>Settings>CP>Network. Is Novell Netware or Client for Netware installed?

If you see Novell Netware installed, try reinstalling the Novell Netware component. Start>Settings>CP>Network>Add>Client>Novell ...

Or if you see "Client for Netware Networks", then try reinstalling it. Start>Settings>CP>Network>Add>Client>Microsoft>Client for Netware Networks.

BTW, if it's already listed in the Network components box, highlight it and click on Remove. Then click on Add to reinstall it.

Hi.I have a Dell Precision Workstatioin T5400 with a 2.33 Gig Xeon processor, 3 gig of ram running windows xp service pack 3 and on an small business server exchange network. I reboot my computer when I leave at night and every day when I come in I have an error message. I have updates that won't install and I am not sure why:Here is the error message and the details:this is the message i get about the updates:Can anyone tell me what I need to do to stop these issues. Are they related? Thanks.

A:Microsoft Error Report - Updates won't install

VisualStudio relies on MS.NET...either/both could be damaged.

If I still had MS.NET 1.1 on my systems...I would uninstall it and replace with Version 3.5, SP1...and see if it clicks.

Damaged programs are normally overcome by removing them via Add/Remove Programs...and then reinstalling them.

Hi, I'm new here and a senior noob.

A few days ago I went into Windows Update Module and unticked the following boxes for:

1: Microsoft Updates
2. Software Notifications

Very dumb error and now I cannot get these boxes back. How , if possible, can I get Microsoft updates back? Windows Updates are fine.

Thank you for any help that you can give me!

A:I deleted Microsoft Updates boxes in error

Simply go back in to Windows Update and re-check them - they don't disappear.

I am Arun Kumar Kushwaha and I have discovered one Big Loophole/Security Leak in Microsoft's Windows 7 Operating System worldwide.
through which we can Access/Delete/Copy/Replace Important Data without Cracking/Resetting the Login Password in Windows 7 OS
and for this we not need any 3rd party Software/ CD/ DVD/ Pen drive/ CMD/ Script/ or any other means of hacking Devices/tool.

only through Windows 7 OS we can Access anybodies Computer Around the world, and user will never get to know that his/her computer has accessed by someone else.
This is purely Microsoft's Negligence towards user's Around the world.

U can assume how much serious is this Issue, if anybody can steal confidential Important data of Company/ Govt data/ or any other Sensitive Personal data of anyone who are using windows 7 OS.

I have Talked through telephone to MS India regarding this Issue and they told me that there is no loophole in their OS and can't be accessed by anyone without having Login Password or User need to Reset login Password with tool/software available.

also i have mailed to MS Technical support Team and also asked about this issue on Windows worldwide official support forum, but not get any meaning full response from them.

I am asking this message to here, coz i want to Spread this issue around the world, so every user can secure their Data and also MS can rectify this issue by releasing an OS Update.

Thanks for reading ..

Recently, with TSF help I resolved an ethernet controller driver issue and was able to get back on the internet.

Things were going great with my computer until Microsoft automatically downloaded 81 XP updates at once. When I rebooted I got a blue screen with the following message:

problem by following file nv4_disp

The device driver got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly.

I found a restore point, reinstalled the ethernet driver and am back in business. However, now I am anxious about XP Microsoft updates. I don't want to keep on losing the driver.

A:Blue screen error message after Microsoft updates

Hi,
Try this:
Uninstall the nVidia driver in Control panel > Add or remove programs.
Then install the XP updates.
When that's done - boot into VGA mode, disable anti-virus, and reinstall the nVidia driver.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on an Alienware M14x.

Okay, let me list out all the problems.

It will not install updates correctly, meaning it will reboot two times before it says, "failure to update, reverting changes" and allow me to log into my computer. Sometimes it will take 15 minutes per "Configuring Windows, please wait" screen.

It is also not allowing me to download Microsoft Office 2010. I keep getting this error code:
Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {A75F2217-AD54-3EA6-AE14-F255F8660531}. HRESULT: 0x8007054F.

And none of the updates are sticking.

Every time I close out of Windows Update after installing a Security update, it says there are updates available, and it's another Security update. wtf? Also, I get the error code "Code BC9, Windows Update encountered an unknown error" when it tries to install Internet Explorer, so that doesn't install either.

I did a diagnostic test, and nothing came up as an actual system error, so it's just all Windows itself.

Here is the HijackThis log.
Pastebin

Edit: I ran a full scan on Microsoft Security Essentials and it found a trojan and two other issues. I promptly removed them. However it still didn't repair my update issues (which might be due to a connectivity problem) or my Microsoft Office 2010 problem.

Windows 7 Home edition PC.

I'm getting the 0x80073b01 Error Code when I install Security Essentials after it completes the installation but before it starts the program for the first time.  If I click on it from the start menu, it gives the same error as I try to start it.  I believe the same problem is preventing the Microsoft updates from happening as well....they show two new critical updates needed, but it is never able to install them.

Found the program titled "PC Speed Fix" installed on her computer.  I uninstalled it, and after reboot it shows up again (now it is not showing up in her installed programs list).

I have ran updated versions of Malwarebytes and SpyBot...both removed some items, but still unable to start/run Security Essentials.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!  Thanks!!

I am trying to get Office updates on Windows 7 HP, but when I click on the "Find out more" link to activate Microsoft update nothing happens - it behaves as it were a dead link.

I'm wondering if this may be because IE isn't installed as I have a European version that shipped without it and I use Firefox as my browser.

Windows updates works fine. A vista box I have worked OK too - I recall it opened the update website which made me think the abscence of IE was the issue.

Browsing to the update site manually just tells me that access is through the control panel now.

I'd rather not install IE unless I have to to make this work.

Any ideas?

I tried installing a trial version of Living Cookbook on my desktop computer and it would not run. The following errors popped up. I installed the same program on my Laptop with the same windows 7 64bit configuration as my desktop and it ran fine. The only difference between the 2 computers is the laptop has Windows 7 home premium and my desktop has Windows 7 professional. Both computers have been fully updated with the latest Microsoft updates and are Malware and virus free. I don't know why the desktop is giving me this error when the laptop works fine. I have tried running this in Administrator mode, in window xp compatible mode all with same results. It ran with no configurations on my laptop.

Did you create the database? If not go to the database creater / administrator, otherwise cut out all the sensitive data, and attach a copy to this thread. It's probably something to do with the way the database is set-up.

Haven't come across this myself, may be a common known issue.

Have you tried going to Start> Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management. It sounds like there's a corrupted file or a service is denying you access. You are the Administrator of windows? After trying the first scenario go to Start>Run and type services.msc and when the services window opens make sure Event Log, Windows Management Instrumentation(WMI), and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) are started and not disabled. Hello all,
I am having an issue accessing the Developer API access page within the Microsoft Security Response Center website (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/msrc). When I click on Customer Guidance > Developer API access, or navigate to https://portal.msrc.microsoft.com/en-us/developer,
my browser first asks me to sign in and click which account I would like to use. I click my desired account, and it briefly redirects to the Microsoft Developer API Access page, but then after a split-second it redirects me back to the sign-in page. Is it
a requirement to have a specific type of email associated with the Microsoft account in order to get past this?

Thank you for your help!
