I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I get a red X over the internet icon and my router will no longer recognize any networks. I called my ISP and the manufacture of my Belkin router. So I went out and bought a brand new Net Gear router. Still not working. I called Net Gear and they think it's my wireless card?

Is there a way to determine for sure if its a hardware problem?

Maybe I need to download a driver?

Is there a wireless switch on my laptop?

Do I need to configure my new router? I'm hoping to use my Belkin router if it's just a driver problem so I can take back the new router and get my money back.

What are some first steps to take? If you need more information, please let me know. Thank you!

2. How to fix the problem now without restarting/shutting down the pc ?

I went to device manager and i see under: Universal Serial Bus controllers two controllers out of 8 that have a yellow triangle with a black small line inside like a warning. I tried to make Scan for hardware changes but it didn't fix it.

I have a Nvidia Geforce gtx 660, and the other day the feed from the DVI-D port just disappeared out of nowhere! I have tried using a different monitor, and using a different cable, but no luck. My computer thinks that it's working fine, it registers the monitor, and when I'm using dual screens, I can even move the cursor or drag windows into the dead zone.

I have tried both updating and rolling back my graphics card drivers, as well as doing the Windows Refresh (I have Windows 8.1), and it hasn't worked.

This is incredibly frustrating because I really like having dual monitors to do my designing. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Give this a try and see if it helps:

Reinstall after you have removed all USB items. Use this method:Unplug all USB items

Start

Control Panel

System

Hardware

Device Manager

View

Show Hidden Devices

Scroll down to the USB area and open it with (+)

Right click on each item and Uninstall all that you have with that option

Reboot and let the computer find them

Plug items back in and test it.

Hello,

History:

I have had a similar issue in the past with my last PC (which had serious issues and was replaced with this one that is only a few months old now) and got help from these forums, the problem was completely fixed but following the same steps does not work for me this time.

Saurabh A was a great help and that fixed my old problem but will not work for this USB 3.0 issue and was wondering if anyone had similar problems and was able to fix them?

Problem:

USB 3.0 ports (front #6 and back #5) stopped working, when I plug my Western Digital 2TB Passport into the port it does not respond at all, like it has gone dead. This is the port I usually use for this device and have had no issues until now.

What I have done so far:
Uninstalled the USB 3.0 Host Controller and deleted the driver

Reboot the machine
Installed RENESAS USB3 Host Driver 30230 setup.exe from YET-D720201-0014, YET-D720202-0014 | Renesas Electronics America
This is what I see after following those steps and my USB 3.0 port is still not responding at all. I have right clicked it and tried to "Update" but it says it is the latest version.

Any ideas?

The divice manager does not indicate a problem with any USB Controllers but I can't tell which one is Drive K which is the one that is no longer working. I tried disabling the USB Root hubs and restarting but that did not restore the USB Port. What will restore this drive? Can I do a test to see if it is ruined now? Help!

A:USB Port Stopped working

This problem is a pain in the... backside.

I had exactly the same issue, I found patience was the key - the process somewhere was getting "stuck".

Insert a USB key and leave it in there. If you use your PC for a few hours then eventually it may detect the device and work normally from then on (worked for me).

It could be that the USB port has completely stopped working - to test this plug in a usb keyboard and see if you can enter the BIOS.

which Toshiba A100 do you have?
A100-001 or A100-772??

if you have the 400.00$ A100-001 ---I would say live with it.

if 800.00$ A100-772 my recommendation would be to shop around to see who will give you the best price to diagnose your laptop problem

sounds like either the usb port its self is cracked or a wire has come loose.
the wire hasn't totally broken off because Device manager still sees the port.
but it is loose enough to corrupt the data transfer.
that why nothing works in the port.

could be totally off base---
but if the A100-772 800.00$ its worth it to pay a shop for a diagnosis
once you find out for sure you can still live with-it if cost to much to repair

Hi Everyone

I have recently discovered that my 4 USB port splitter has stopped working suddenly. It is about 4 years old and I am pretty sure it only supports USB devices up to 2.0
I am not exactly sure what caused it to stop working suddenly but I have two possible ideas.

A few days ago when I had it plugged in, the notification area displayed a message saying "This device can perform faster if connected to a 2.0 port". I am guessing this may have mucked up my USB device because my 4 Port USB is plugged into my computer via 3.0 USB and devices connected to it are all 2.0

Also I seem to have noticed quite a lot of USB drivers when I open device manager under "Universal Serial Bus controllers' and I am wondering if I need to disable one of them to allow my USB 4 port to work? (This is what happened with my sound utility)

I know that is should probably be plugged in to one of my other USB 2.0 ports on my computer but nothing happens there either. I think it needs to be reconised by the computer then it needs to install a driver called "MTT USB 2.0 Hub" or something.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

A:4 Port USB Problem Stopped Working

Disconnect one of the USB devices you have connected to your 4 port splitter, remove the 4 port from the computer & plug the USB device directly into the USB port, thereby by passing the 4 port device. If it now works then the 4 port is probably faulty.

My problem is i have a small network at home and my main PC (vista) has suddenly stopped connecting to the network. When looking into it i think it possibly is the port that stopped working, as this is the only comp that is connecting via cable as others are wireless, but if i plug the cable directly into my laptop it picks up the network straight away. I have tried updating the drive but comp says it is the most up to date one. Have also got windows updates that may help but they wont install as im not connected to the web (interesting how it managed to find the updates though)..

Any ideas or help would be hugely appreciated.

I have an Inspiron 6000, and the USB ports have stopped detecting my USB mouse. The USB ports will detect my USB key or external harddrive... so I'm guessing the automatic drivers that were installed for the mouse have curropted or something.

This time though, I recently got some "USB port failure" messages that minimzed into the system tray but I could never open it up again or recreate the message.

Hi Turbonis!
This article from Microsoft support page may help you understand and fix the issue through a few steps like scanning for hardware changes and resetting the USB controller:
https://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900?wa=wsignin1.0
If not, then it could be that the USB ports have just died. For that, you'll need to take your PC to a professional to determine the damage.

Have you totally shut "off" your computer? Not just reboot, or "shutdown", but totally off by unplugging from the wall (or setting the master power switch on the back of your PSU - IF it has the option - to off). This is the only way to totally remove all voltages, in particular the ATX Form Factor required +5Vsb standby voltage PC power supplies supply when the computer is simply shutdown (which is really standby mode).

Note there are several "Wake on..." commands set in the BIOS Setup Menu that use this +5Vsb voltage to keep various circuits and settings "alive" when the computer is in standby mode. These include Wake on Mouse and Wake on Keyboard - which obviously rely on USB. That means USB ports are still alive even when you have exited Windows and shutdown the computer.

If me, I would uninstall your device and the drivers, shutdown, then remove power from the computer for 10 - 15 seconds to ensure all standby settings are released. Then connect and boot and see if the device is detected, drivers load, an... Read more

Hi All I have been crawling through these forums and Google in general, it seems a lot of people have similar issues. I run a T470s, I use a Startech USB-C to HDMI adaptor allowing me to connecto to 2 external monitors. I have done for many months and all was fine. I recently ran system update and found multiple drivers needed updating, I ran this and since I cannot use my external monitors.  Thunderbolt software is up to date, as per screenshot it doesnt show the controller version or details in lower half. Device Manager doesnt show the controller at all (even hidden devices). I have tried:uninstall/reinstall of TB SWrunning the firmware update tool but that just says 'No Active Controller' in the system.I have tried reinstalling every Intel driver availablethe BIOS was updated by System Update previouslyI have checked the BIOS settings and everything is enabled I found a system restore point from a few days ago which I think is before this started, rolling back to that allows the TB3 SW to show the controller version and a device showing in Device Manager but my monitors still dont work. A further reboot without changing anything takes me back to 'None' controller version and nothing in Device Manager. Open to the idea it could be my adaptor has died, I understand you sometimes need a TB3 device connected to update the FW (?) but I do not have any other devices, hoping to try my adaptor on another machine at head office next week to ... Hi, I am a teacher and need to connect at school to a HDMI cable. I use a USB-c to HDMI dongle. As many, I had issue with my USB-C port since I purchased my Yoga 910. (turn on and off and hard to connect) Recently however, the port just stopped working. I believe it is dead. I tried to find documentation on how to repair it or investigate but could not find any informations. Can I do anything to confirm that? Is there anything I can do to repair it? Is the next step to bring my laptop to a Lenovo service center? Thank you for any help!

Webcam always worked fine (mostly using Skype). Now Skype says it can't find a webcam. When I try to run the HP Mediasmart software it can't see the webcam either.
I've tried downloading new software from hp.com (Cyberlink youcam) but when I try to install this it just hangs and never completes - probably bc I've seen something on the cyberlink site that says it will not install successfully if there is no webcam.
Running Windows 7.

A:Touch screen stopped working - HP Pavilion 23 all in one

Hi JohnSevenoaks, Welcome to the HP Forums! I have read your post on how your TouchScreen stopped responding working, and I would be happy to guide you towards a resolution! To begin, I will need to ask you a few questions: What is the Product and Model Number of your desktop computer? What version of Windows do you have installed on your computer?Did you install any new software or hardware to your computer recently?Has your computer completed its important Windows updates? In the meantime, please follow this document on HP TouchSmart PCs - Troubleshooting Touch Screen Issues in Windows 7 or for Windows 8. This should help determine if the issue is software or hardware related. Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, as well as the requested information. I look forward to your reply! Cheers!

Have USB mouse and keyboard. All was fine today. Even got high speed internet and it was great. Went onto my computer later in the day and was online doing some work and all of a sudden my mouse would not work and got a message saying "one of the USB ports not recognized". I have two front ports and four back ports. I removed both my mouse and keyboard and tried each port separately with only the mouse and after that failed then the keyboard. Each attempt I got that message. When you get that message you cannot even click on anything to check the problem or get into the control panel. I went and powered off the computer by holding the power button down, unplugged it and walked away for 30 minutes to try again. After plugging the computer in and turning on I tried again the mouse in each USB port to get the same message. I do not know what to do now because without the mouse I cannot get into the control panel. Can someone help me please. Oh, I am not a computer person so please make it simple for me. Thank you.

I have a Pavilion 23-b017c that is three years old.  It was recently upgraded to Windows 10.  After an improper shut down, it started displaying the Windows 10 blue screen frowny face NTFS_File_System error message.  It would try to automatically repair the issue, but did not succeed and was stuck on the blue error screen.  I had to hard boot it to shut it down.  After finding a possible solution on line, I created a Windows 10 USB installation thumb drive, and was going to use the "Repair Installation" option on the install screen.  When I plugged in the USB drive and tried to boot it up, the power came on, I can hear the fan, but the screen is blank and does not appear to be live.  The fan port at the top seems warmer than usual, but I'm not sure.  I have no idea where to begin...if it is a mother board or hard drive failure.  I did not have a recent backup of my files (foolish move on my part), and I want to at minimum recover my files.  Please help.

KJ-23-b017c Sorry, but you can not do a Repair-Install by booting from installation media, be that USB or DVD. Instead, you have to be running Win10, insert the USB stick, and when the window pops open, run setup.exe from there, as a Repair-Install must be done from INSIDE the running OS. Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol on my post to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================
