local network works but internet doesn´t frequently

Q: local network works but internet doesn´t frequently

Hi, I have very frustrating problem with my connection to the Internet. Many times an hour, Internet as searching websites etc. is unavailable. But, this is weird, local network works, I tried FTP connection on my server in local network, filesharing etc. it works.
Sometimes I can use Skype or ICQ, but its not rule. Sometimes can sometimes can?t.
It doesn?t matter if I am connected via LAN or via WiFi. On both adapters is that problem.
Problem isn?t ISP, while is internet on my PC idle, other computers in the same network works.
Is only one solution: disable and enable network adapter. With LAN isn?t much frustrating, but with WiFi, it?s horrible. Sometimes it?s twice an hour, but usually it?s much often.

I tried many many solutions but neither than one was useful.
i tried disableing Bonjour service, enableing proxy settings (Internet stopped working but skype still connects.) and many many others...

as attachment I?m adding ipconfig /all, it?s in czech, but I hope that you will understand it, for your understanding small dictionary:
odpojeno = disconnected
připojeno = connected
adresa IP = IP adress

ne = no

Preferred Solution: local network works but internet doesn´t frequently

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

With Bonjour disabling doesn't always work and you have to remove it from your system.

To fix ...
Run MsConfig

First disable Bonjour, Under the Services tab uncheck the service called "##Id_String1.6844[... and then a bunch of numbers]" by Apple.

To remove it from your system.
1. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Bonjour
2. Rename the mdnsNSP.dll file in that folder to mdnsNSP.old
3. Restart your computer
4. Delete the Program Files\Bonjour folder

I have a local network that is setup using workgroup on Windows 7 64-bit machines.  I have about 4 machines set up, all have the same network configuration.  One computer has lost all local network access but still has internet access.  I
have tried just about everything, removing the network adapter drive and reinstalling, toggling network setup parameters on and off, etc.  Nothing seems to be able to restore the local network access.  The strange thing is the other computers can
see this computer and access the shared drives.  I am at a loss short of reinstalling Windows 7 which I really do not want to do at this point.  Anyone know what could possibly be causing this?  Thank you,

I'll explain the situation here.
I have a router with 3 computers connected to it. 2 of them work fine, except 1.
I can ping a website without loss of packages (I used www.bbc.co.uk)
I also have access to google (sometimes) and to the website of "fortis bank" (which always seems to work).
Every other website I know is not accessible. It saids "page cannot be found".
I tried changing the DNS to what it should be and it didn't work.
I also disable my firewall for a minute, but still no effect.
Changing settings of my connection doesn't work out aswell.
Also did RIES and no success.

If u need more info, I'm right here.

A:Network Connection Works, Internet Doesn't..

What other security software do you have on your computer? It is possible that some security program is blocking out everything that ends with a .com, for example. If you do have an anti-virus program on the computer, see if you can update it and run a full system scan. If that does not do anything, try to disable all of your security software and try again.

A user from a different plant recently came to visit. His laptop had no trouble connecting to anything at his home plant, and had no trouble up here, either. I got a call today, however, that since his return he has been able to use the network just fine, but cannot connect to the internet.

I connected remotely to see if I could find the problem, this is what I tried and found:

He is on DHCP and automatic DNS finding - I tried forcing him to use the correct DNS server with no change.

I noticed in Internet Explorer that the IP address of a site is found just fine, but I'm unable to ping the IP. For example, the browser will find that www.cnn.com is, but when I ping it my requests time out.

He can ping the DNS server with no trouble.

He has access to anything on the network with no issue, it's only the internet that seems to be giving him trouble.

Any help would be appriciated.

Hello, I don't know where to begin. When I log on and my start programs run, I receive a couple different messages about something not being in the library. I would check right now before writing this, but I'm afraid my wireless connection would take too long to fix again. I've been having problems for the past week. Very irritating. Lots of time spent trying to unfold this disaster.1) I do have a hijack this log if someone would look at it. 2) Maybe two or three months ago, I updated Internet Explorer7 to IE8 and now it doesn't work at all. I'm stuck, forced to use Mozilla. 3) The wireless router IS in my house and it IS encrypted. YES, I DO have the password key... 4) For the past couple weeks, if I am in a program like MOBSTERS by MYSPACE my computer will freeze. It happens every time, SHORTLY after going into the MISSIONS tab. I have to do a hard restart or it'll stay frozen for the entire day.5) On my wireless connection... IF/When I click "repair".... It will work for maybe 15-30 seconds MAYBE!! and then it will restart my computer. 6) I can't afford to pay for help, but I do have a few rare coins I would happily exchange for some help here. I have three laptops I've tried to connect to a Motorola SBG900 cable modem. The two laptops with XP Pro connect to the modem and internet with no issues. The third laptop with Vista Home Basic will connect to the model but won't connect to the internet.

If the Vista laptop is connected to the model via USB it will connect. If connected with either LAN or wireless, the connection is local only.

I've tried the following:

Entering IPv4 IP address
Entering DNS server address
Turning off the firewall
Reset WINSOCK entries
Reset IPv4 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults
Reset IPv6 TCP/IP stack to installation defaults
Disabled the IP Helper service
Disabled IPv6
Disabled the DHCP Broadcast Flag

none of this did anything

Finally I tried turning off the Avast Network Shield and it connected. One of the XP laptops has Avast too, but it didn't have the same issue.

A:Vista Local Only Network (XP works fine)

Clearly, there is a configuration or compatibility issue with the Avast product. What is the question here?

I have an eMachine that belongs to my niece, it has Vista Home Premium x64 and a linksys USB adapter for wireless. There are two exact computers in the house, both with the same USB adapters.
I have shut off the firewall after being unable to access the internet with IE or Firefox. I have noticed that the windows updates are allowed access but that's it, I can see packets being sent and received in the connection status, so I know it actually has a good connection.
I also did a system restore today and went back about a month and the browser worked fine for a while, until I closed it and reopened it. There are several failed updates in the update history and I was wondering if that could cause such a problem. Thanks for any help.

I've just purchased a new Windows Vista computer, and I set up a network with my old XP system. I am able to access the internet on the Vista system, so the network is connecting properly, but after reading all of the explanations I could find on the internet and double, triple, etc. checking all of my settings, neither computer recognizes the other on the network, and I cannot figure out what I have done wrong.
Like I said, I shared the internet connection, which is coming from the XP system, and I can access the internet on the new Vista, but both see no other computers on the network. When I try to explore the network in the XP system, it says I do not have permission although I am logged on as administrator (the only user on the system, in fact, is the administrator).
I can see the wireless router on the Vista, and I was able to open it once, but it asked me for a username and password, which I had not set up on either system. I tried the usernames from both systems, but it would not accept either of them. I saw something on one website about a WEP passcode, or something similar, of which I am completely unaware.
I made sure both systems were referencing the same network name, and I made sure file and printer sharing were enabled on both systems as well, per the suggestion of several websites I referenced for help. Is there anything else I haven't thought of? I know that any number of individual settings could be clashing, but I don't even know where to beg... Read more

Hi, I'm a forum virgin so please be gentle with me.

I have a desktop and laptop sharing files and an internet connection via modem to D-Link router setup.

My laptop connects to the network via a Netgear PCMCIA wireless card when mobile and via an ethernet cable when sitting on the desk.

The wireless connection does everything it's supposed to do (network and internet access and sharing).

The ethernet connection only shares files but can not get an internet connection to be established.

I have Norton Internet Security but I think everything's alright with that otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect wirelessly. Correct? Are there different IP setup's for wireless/ethernet.

Why can I 'see' my desktop's files and share the printer via ethernet but I can't establish an internet connection unless I go wireless?

Everything's fine with the desktop.

Sorry for the ramble and thanks in anticipation.

A few days ago I arrived to Germany to a study for a semester. In the house where I'm staying there's a modem with a Lan Cable that I'm supposed to use. I plugged it the day I arrived and I notices I had no Internet connection. After running a few diagnoses the system told me that "Local Area network" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. I don't know why this message appears and why can't I connect to the Internet. I've checked so many forums and I'm starting to believe there's no solution to my problem.
I've checked that the IP is in automatic configuration and I've also tried to connect with other modems what I obtain the same result....
PLEASE HELP ME, I will fail all my courses without Internet

A:Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration

You might need to power down the laptop, then power off the modem. Keep the modem powered off for about 30 seconds then power it back on. let the lights cycle through until you see connectivity on the modem, then (After plugging the ethernet cable into the LAN slot) power the laptop back on.

If it still doesn't work, you may want to check for Antivirus/Security software/Static Ips.

Hi, my intenet status is disconnected and while doing a diagnose the problem is Local Area Network doesn't have a valid IP configuration. Earlier everything was fine, but it happened right after a power outage due to really bad snow weather. I mean outside is bad. I do have a wireless router but I don't have a wireless card in my PC, and my router is wired to the modem. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium Anytime Upgrade 32-bit x86. I can't post the CMD results from my computer on here, so I would need to type manually, but I'm not sure what info someone needs to know to provide me support. Thank you!

Click Start, click Network Connections - what shows?

Nothing! Then click Start, right on the start panel (empty area) and then click properties, start menu, customize, advanced and make sure the Network Connections is set to display.

I have no idea what is affecting either problems. My computer cannot see the network, nor can any of the other computers see it.

I only have one firewall, Windows Defender and I connect through a Linksys Router, by an RJ-45.

So far to try and fix/diagnose my problem I have:
-Tried manually finding the network by \\computer name and \\IPaddress.
-But when I tried to ping the IP through Run... it was able to see it 4/4.
-Tried setting up the network again.
-Tried restarting my computer, several times.
-Tried restarting my internet connection, several times.
-Tried flushing then registering my DNS through Run...>cmd>ipconfig \flushdns>ipconfig \registerdns.
-Tried turning on UPnP.

I suspect that the only thing I can do is to reinstall Windows XP, but it will be troublesome to reacquire all of my programs and to backup all of my files to my External Hard Drive which is currently broken.

Thank you in advance.

I am not sure whether I should be posting this in the Windows forum or the PC Hardware because it involves both.

I have an external 320 GB Transcend Drive with a lot of important data.
Recently, I unplugged it from my PC and took to another to get some files.
One the other machine (Vista), it didn't show up as far as I can remember, thought that was strange so i brought it back to my Laptop (Win 7, Dual Boot with Ubuntu 10) and it only showed as Local Disk, I have tried to find useful information on the net but some is very vague and some is outright stupid and irrelevant.

The fact is that the HDD is not broken. When in Ubuntu I can view the contents fine and everything is there, no freeze ups or anything, but in windows the drive shows up as Local Disk, I don't think it is a drive letter conflict.

The Device shows up fine in the Device Manager.
I'm sure some of you have solved this problem as it seems many on the Internet have.
If so please tell me in a few steps how you resolved it.. I am not formatting as I do not deem this necessary since I can access my data fine in Ubuntu.

Kind Regards

A:External Hard Drive Works In Ubuntu / Shows as "Local Disk" in Win 7 and doesn't work

I suggest that while in Ubuntu you move the files to local HDD, then reformat external HDD, then copy the files back.

I just set up a wireless home network -- laptop (XP), desktop (98se), printer (wired to desktop with wireless to the laptop), router (Belkin make), and cable connection.

Everything worked fine until I tweaked some of the security settings. Both pcs can still access the internet through the router, but the network is gone -- the pcs can't see each other, the printer can't find a network, and the DHCP client list only sees the laptop wireless address. (It used to have addresses for the laptop ethernet connection, the desktop, and printer.) I've tried returning the security settings to the original configuration, but no luck. I don't have any idea what I did wrong.

Any suggestions on what I try next, or do I have to reset the router and start all over again?

There was lightning near my house today when it struck the power went out for a second and when it came back the Internet didn't work. And my network says Unidentified Network and when I troubleshoot it I get "local area connection" doesn't have a valid ip configuration. I'm not really sure what to do, I hope it isn't but it kind of seems like a hardware problem but I don't know enough to say so

A:Unidentified Network local area connection doesn't have valid ipconfig

If you have a cable modem, unplug power from it for about 2 minutes. Then power it up again. If you also have a router, unplug power from it for a short time, then power it up again. Then re-boot your computer. Let us know if this works. Who is your internet provider ? You may have to call them to do an electronic reset.

I'm hoping someone can solve this mystery. We have 3 computers on a home network. The server and 1 client are fine. The problem is with the other client. AIM is working but you can't get on to the internet. When you click on the browser it keeps saying (working offline) in the title. Then a page comes up saying that an error has been found and IE needs to close.

It's a wireless router and the computer with the attitude has XP.

Any suggestions?

I recently installed McAfee on my fiancee's desktop, which has been running Windows XP for some time now with no virus software. The software didn't seem to work, the scanning time limit maxed out on every file. Shortly after, the computer contracted a virus (what irony). Hi there,

I'm having this strange problem i never had before, yesterday when i turned on my laptop, strangely i couldn't find my wireless network on the list, i can see all the neighbors networks that always show up but NOT mine! I adding a wireless network manually but that didn't work either so i removed it, then i plugged in the cable and its working perfectly, but i just can't figure it out why wouldn't the wireless work. I tried clicking that "connect even if the network is not broadcasting" but that didn't make any changes!
I have a dell inspiron 1525, windows 7, ZyXEL Prestige 600 router

ohh and yes, this last week i would sometimes loose signal from my adapter, i usually had to switch it off and then on again and it would work. But i have no idea what should i do now !

However i can't get anywhere on the internet. when i call up a page, oh, let's say Google (it has always worked for me) my browser shows that it's actively searching (the "e" is spinning) but it'll search for ever without any luck. I have pinged my host comp...wks fine. when i ping a web page from DOS, it times out. I am somewhat knowledgeable regarding computers so this petty problem has got me numb with anger.

I have recently upgraded my cable broadband connection from 2mb to 20mb, and this is when my problem started.

I operate three computers from home using a Belkin Router (F5D7230 V6) 802.11g. Two computers (XP and Vista) are set up to operate from a wireless connection and the third via an Ethernet connection. The problem that I have is with the computer using the Ethernet (XP). Upon start up, the internet connection will work fine for 8-10 minutes before a sign pops up saying ‘connection timed out’. The router indicates that it is connected and getting a signal, indeed, msn still works but not the internet connection. If I reboot, the same thing happens, internet works for 8-10 minutes then it goes down.

Process of Elimination:

 My other computers that are connected wirelessly are fine. However, I borrowed the external netgear wireless adapter from one of these computers and configured it with the problem computer (Ethernet unattached) and the same problem occurred, 8-10 minutes of internet then loss of connection.
 I also tried out the Ethernet connection on another computer, no problem the cable is not damaged.
 I have downloaded the latest firmware for my router to make sure that it is up to date

Any advice would be gratefully received from a person fast pulling all their hair out trying to resolve this issue for his daughter!

I have connected other laptops to the same cord and there is no problems. so i know its not the cord and i imagine its not the router since everything still works fine with other computers.

Try re-installing the ethernet network driver (not the wireless driver) for that laptop model from the laptop manufacturer's website.

As of yesterday my boyfriend had working ethernet and wi-fi.
Today when turning on his computer, he could use the intenet for some programs, for instance a voice chat client (mumble) and for torrent software.
However, browsers (Edge and Chrome) do not work neither does the wi-fi to his phone, and give the following error:

There is no internet connection There is something wrong with the proxy server, or the address is incorrect ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED

He uninstalled his firewall, Zone Alarm Free with iobit uninstaller. After rebooting, the internet worked. He then installed AVG antivirus, scanned
and it found some items which it removed. But the internet once again stopped working, same exact problem. He uninstalled but this time the uninstaller
froze while uninstalling, so he had to restart the computer, Iobit then had to delete the AVG files. No change with the problem.

The computer would not System Restore, cannot remember the error but can get it for you. Scanning with Malware-Bytes also turned up nothing.

Online there was a suggestion to use the cmd prompt as administrator and type in "netsh int ip reset", "ipv4" and "ipv6", the all failed, stating 'access denied.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I am connected to the internet, but there is a red x on my network icon (yet when you hover over it, it says internet access.) I tried to go into the network and sharing > change adapter settings, yet the Network connections folder is COMPLETELY blank.

I tried reinstalling the driver. Initially, I get a message that says "the parameter is incorrect" Although, I tried to do it a second time, it said that the driver is up to date.

I dunno what else to do. I'd like to have access to my LAN connection. I'm running Win 7 Ultimate x64.

A:Network Connections Blank - Red X on Network Icon- but Internet works

Well, after 3 hours of trying to find a solution, I immediately found it after creating this thread. Sorry!!!

Anyway, the solution was to open the registry editor, go to: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Network" and delete the “Config” value. I restarted my computer, and all was well.

Still wondering: why did this happen in the first place?

Morning all

I've googled this and found heaps of people having the same issue, but nothing that actually resolves it. I'm using a laptop with internal wifi but I also have an external wifi dongle as I connect to my neighbours internet (I have permission and the passwords, etc). Both the internal and external used to work fine and both would have internet connection. But something recently has changed and now the internal wifi still works with both network and internet connection, but the external one only has network connection and no internet connection.

The reason I use the external one is it gives much better signal strength than the internal one and, as said, both used to work just fine.

Now I've tried uninstalling the external drivers and dongle and reinstalling it but no dice. I've tried doing the netsh stuff people have recommended in some of the search pages but no dice. Tried release and renew of IP, but no dice. I've disabled all firewalls but no dice (and I figure the firewalls would stop both connections anyway but I thought I'd try it)

My internal card uses Atheros drivers and my external uses the Ralink drivers (I'm going from memory now as it's at home and I'm now at work). Both have IPs to the network, everything looks similar for both when you do an ipconfig /all.

Does anyone know how to fix it and the low signal strength of my internal wifi to get internet is rather flakey unless I stand outside their home (they've offered to set me up a cha... Read more

This problem appears to be a variation on the hardy perennial "foo" doesn't have a valid IP configuration" problem.

My Win7 machine originally had a DSL connection through a router using an Ethernet cable, and it worked great. I used the same router for wireless and to connect with a home network to my other computers running XP Pro.
Then I changed to FIOS, and a new wireless router that had to be located in a non-wire-reachable location. No problem, a USB wireless dongle and the win7 box was happy again and could see the internet via wireless.

However. I could not connect the rest of my network, also in the non-wire reachable location. I want to use the main box, the win7 one, as the internet connection and connect the printers and other computers to it via cable and a switch. The LAN is showing as the dreaded Unknown Public connection which cannot be reset, the diagnosis is "doesn't have a valid IP configuration", and I've tried setting up ICS, making sure the security settings for files is NOT 128 bit, the IPV6 and 4 are set to automatically gather IP settings on all machines, and I'm running out of ideas. I don't let Microsoft automatically update anything, so I don't think it is a driver issue. The win7 ethernet card worked great when it was the only connection. I *think* I saw a connection on one xp pro box before changing the IPV settings on it, but I can't be sure. I got a brand new D-link ethernet switch to try and make this work, b... Read more

H'Okay, So I'm trying to hook up the internet to two computers.
One computer(windows vista) is wired straight to a router.(This one-->http://www.sigelectronics.com/core/media/media.nl?id=18358&c=666363&h=4a8711b8216d4c4aea31 )
The other(Windows XP) is hooked up to one of those stick-internet-recievy-thingies. (This thing: http://www.yinfor.com/blog/archives/images/dlink-wua-1340-wifi.jpg )

So, the one with the stick thing works all nice and dandy, but the one that's hooked to the router won't work. A pop-up thing comes up and says that both computers have the same IP. But, I thought that was supposed to be how it worked with a router?

So... I have no idea what to do about this. : S

A:Internet problem, wireless works, wired doesn't?

All devices on a network must have a unique IP address. If you have assigned one or both a static IP address then change it/them. If both are using dynamic addressing then shut them both down and unplug the router. Then plug in the router followed by booting the computers.

First time poster, long time browser, bear with me as this is a little long but I think I got a really unique one going on here. Before I get into it, My system is a custom built rig running Windows XP on an Athlon 4000. I'm not the most computer savvy but in my device manager it says that I have a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller as well as a NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller for network adapters. For wireless I run a NETGEAR WG11v2 56Mbps Wireless USB 2.0 adapter.

I live in a house with 13 people and our internet is set on comcast broadband (Cable I believe) that runs through the entire house and has some centrally located mega router thing as well. The guy in the room next to me runs wireless from his room so that he can do work outdoors weather permitting. I had not even plugged in the wireless until today and had been running the hard line out from the wall into my computer.

Here's what happened. My computer had been left on for a few days and was starting to run slow so I went to run a restart. Prior to this I did not have any wireless going. When it rebooted it would get stuck "acquiring network address" for the LAN. There were two LAN's in the network connections, one for the nVidia and one for the Marvell controller I believe. When I try to repair it says it can not renew the IP address. I plugged in the USB wireless and it was appearing to have the same issue. Looking around for some advice I uninstalled ... Read more

Hello Dynamite, My name is Dusty, and hopefully I am able to help you out some.

Do you have windows updated? Also, Windows update can check for drivers automatically.

Do you have a LAN driver and wireless adapter driver installed? If windows update doesn't find them, look them up on your motherboard's manufacturer's website and your adapter's manfacturer's website, respectively.

Follow this link to uninstall/reinstall wireless adapter: Internet speed suddenly slow?. Believe it or not, It may help with your problem.
