Error the path not found at X:Sources> /FixMbr command prompt

Q: Error the path not found at X:Sources> /FixMbr command prompt

My boot record needs replacement. I have given the bootrec command from the install CD a few times now and get the disk not found error. Is this drive beyond boot repair? Would one of the tools like the NTDLeader tool or Hirens etc at least recognize the HD?

If unbootable I'd at least like to start the process of getting some data transferred using a different HD.

At the System Recover options of the installer CD, I don't get anything in the window for operating system.

These errors occurred when trying to clone one drive to another with Clonezilla, a Linux tool used to copy disks. It contains an option which I thought to refresh the boot sector. Such a command should not have effected the source disk but who knows.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Do you have that problem when you open a regular command prompt...
...or only when you open an administrative one?

Does the shortcut on the Start Menu look like this:

Edit: Do you have that problem when you open the Start Menu as shown in the video in my second post to this thread.
Try the steps in option two mentioned here:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
If it finds/fixes stuff - be sure to run it a few more times.

Edit2: Once you've answered those questions, we can work thru the registry values.

Late Monday night my computer decided to present me with a black screen and one blinking cursor. The hard drive still works and runs but the computer will not boot past this black screen.

I created a recovery disk and can run the command prompt there but no commands work:

I tried chckdsk /r says the drive is write protected and cannot run.

I tried fixboot - cannot run

I tried msconfig - cannot run (actually I believe it says it cannot be found.)

I'm not as saavy with MSDos with the newest version of windows.

I know I need to fix my boot file to get past this black screen but I cannot seem to access it or find the right command to fix it.

I can press ESC when the computer first starts- but that is it. I cannot get to f8 or f11, the only option I have is to use the recovery disk and boot from the disk to access the command prompt. I'm trying to avoid a complete format by making restore disks via my other computer.

Any explanation and help is greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone

Recently a problem has arisen with my system.

Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.
Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'

Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.

I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

I'm not sure what might have made this problem arise, but I would greatly appreciate any help.

I have a utility I run on some customers' machines that requires being run from safe mode. I already have the utility automated via batch, and would like to just run one SFX app and move on to the next machine, knowing that this app will reboot the machine into safe mode w/ command prompt, run my utility, and reboot the machine back into normal mode (the standard shutdown -r -t 01 is easy enough, but there are no modal options!). Also, if this can be done, how would I then make sure that the current user logs in automatically, rather than have safe mode stop at the log-in screen?

The utility in question is a simple "Common Software Package" which includes some software such as Reader and Flash. Some of the software included cannot be installed while an antivirus is running (at least any that have tamper-protection) due to the registry editing involved, but are completely positive in nature (one such software package simply checks the current registry vs. a backup it takes on each shutdown to look for any discrepancies, adjusted for installed software, of course). The packages do not require Windows Installer service to be running, so I have found SM w/ CP to be the best option.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

According the issue, I suspect that you could boot Windows 7 in Clean Boot, and try to run CMD.exe as administrator then check the issue again.

If the issue persists, you could contact the provider to get more information about this behavior and whether it would change any registry key. Also make sure whether
this behavior is allowed.
On the other hand, you could use Process Monitor to check which registry key cause this issue:

Process Monitor. Run Cmd.exe as administrator.
Run Process Monitor, enter the command in prompt window
Stop Process Monitor after this error appears, save the log as a PML file.
Upload the file via SkyDrive and post a link here.
After you uploading the log file, I would assist you to check the last registry keys which this process accessed. Then please check the owner of this registry. Please remember to click ?Mark as Answer? on the post that helps you, and to click ?Unmark as Answer? if a marked post does not actually answer your question. My system has three OSes. Two Linux versions and Win XP-SP3. All of them are on different hard-disks of their own. On boot, i specify, which HD to boot from, in the boot menu from BIOS and accordingly boot from the respective Hard disk.

Most of the time, I use Win-XP. While shutting down the PC, i noticed that automatic updates were being installed. I accidentally happened to switch-off the power. Eversince, next boot, when i specify the Windows HD on boot menu, windows XP logo comes up and a blue screen appears and the system reboots to boot from Linux Disks (Default if I don't specify any disk from boot menu). I tried last working configuration, safe mode, safe mode with command prompt etc. But, same symptoms. I tried booting with WinXP CD. It tries loading the setup files and then comes to the blue screen with 0x0000007B error.

From, linux, i'm able to mount and see all the data and contents of the windows Disc.

Please help me to fix this. I need windows up and running badly. Thanks in Advance.

Please note, I do not have a floppy drive.

A:[SOLVED] Blue Screen Error with 0x0000007B, cannot get to command prompt, Win XP

Welcome to TSF, vrkrao :)

Part of Windows Update would include the monthly MSRT scan for viruses. If an infection was found in a System file like atapi.sys and removed by MSRT, it would lead to the 0x7B error you now see because the System file that was infected and now broken, is needed to boot Windows or that the (still infected) MBR points to a file that's been removed or modified.

The MRT.log (assuming it's written before shutdown), found in the Windows\Debug folder, should enable you to check whether the above fits your scenario, if so, it should detail which files were infected.

I have tried "Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP" in the TCP/IPv4 properties. I have tried "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" in Local Security Policy. Nothing changes the behavior of the Win 7 64-bit system.

I have also tried disabling the Windows Firewall without success.

I have avast antivirus installed and tried stopping all of the real-time shields, but nothing changed the behavior.

Any other ideas? Thanks!

Do the following from both Windows 7 systems so we can compare them.

Click on Start then Run or press Window key (next to left Ctrl key) +R and paste the following into the Run box, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping yahoo.com >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.

If you don't have a Run selection off the Start menu, see here: Enable Run Command on Windows 7 or Vista Start Menu

Hi. Just recently my company has set up a Buffalo TeraStation Network Attached Storage. Since we have installed this we can connect to our server through VPN on our laptops but are not able to connect to any drives on the server. When we try to map a network drive it gives an error that states, "The network path \\servername\folder could not be found". I was wondering if anyone has had this happen to them before and if anyone has a solution to fix this problem. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Whenever I try to save a picture from the web I get an error 0x80070035 (network path not found). The computer that I am getting the error for is no longer a part of my network - it has been taken out of service and is no longer available.

While this is not a show stopper, it is an annoyance. Can anyone help me out here?

Hi, I am having trouble networking my Toshiba Laptop with Windows 8 and three (3) of the five computers on my network. The three that I cannot access are all running Windows 7 64 bit, the others that work fine are Windows Vista 32 bit. I can ping all the computers both by name and ip address. Also I can see all the computers in my network folder, but whenever I click on any of the Windows 7 64bit computers I get an error 0x80070035 The network path was not found. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials for the antivirus. Also using the windows firewall, but no extra firewalls. I have tried to disable the antivirus, and firewall, but did not help. I have tried a number of ideas, but to no avail yet.

I have been trying to solve this for hours on end, without success. I can share a folder via HomeGroup on my Windows 8 Professional x64 laptop and I am able to access the folder on my Windows 7 x86 Starter netbook, but not the other way round, meaning I get the same errorcode 0x80070035 each time I try to access the Windows 7 machine on the Windows 8 machine. I have enabled NetBIOS via TCP/IP on both machines, verified that the name of the workgroup is the same on both machines, tried to enable / disable password protected sharing, verified that services are running, rebooted both machines on several occasions, went out the door for a gasp of fresh air and still haven't been able to find the culprit.
There's no antivirus / firewall suite running on either machine (apart from Windows firewall). There is no router in between, just a normal switch. I am running Mouse without Borders (from Microsoft Garage) since Windows 8 has rendered Input Director useless, and I am able to move my mouse pointer across the screen of the Windows 8 machine using the touchpad of the Windows 7 machine (and I can even copy bits of text from the Windows 7 machine to the Windows 8 machine via the shared Windows clipboard) so it's not like everything gets blocked by the Windows 8 machine.
Help please.

Hello. I am new to this forum so please bear with me if I make a few mistakes. I have a problem that I have researched extensively online, but all the posts are quite old, so I will start a new one.
Basically, the situation is this: I have three computers on a Private home network ? one Toshiba laptop running Vista, one HP desktop running Vista, and one HP laptop running Windows 7 Professional. All three are running Norton Security Suite and the firewalls are configured identically. All computers are set up with Network Discovery On and Public File Sharing On. Password Protection is turned off since I have the same User account and password on all three machines. All three computers were on the network, could see each other on the Network map and could access the shared Public folders.
Then I was having some problems with the Toshiba booting slowly and some applications hanging on startup. So, I took it in to the Geek Squad for repair. They removed some viruses, cleaned the registry, and installed some unspecified updates. When I picked up the computer, most of the issues I was having were improved (although not completely eliminated). However, there was one significant problem that had been introduced. That problem is summarized below:
1. Even though Network Discovery is turned on with the Toshiba4639, the two other computers can see the Toshiba on the Network map, but they cannot ping the Toshiba IP address and when they try to open it to see the shared folders, they get fo... Read more

Going back to removing Norton which is by far the most likely suspect, you must use the special tool to remove Norton completely, otherwise it's not actually gone. The link below explains the process of removing Norton.

If you don't want these types of problems in the future then don't install Norton on any of your systems.

Hey guys im new to these forums,

I have been using my laptop computer a Compaq 8510w, as a front end computer to stream movies and such to my Tv off of my external hardrive connected to my desktop. this has been working great but just recently (no i cant remember what i changed) i have been consistently getting the "Network Path Not Found" error when i try to connect to any other computer or server. It doesnt matter what computer or server it is it will automatically reject me with that error.

I can ping other computers by name and ip
other computers can ping it by name and ip
not only SMB shares are rejected but so are print servers and other types of servers.

I am using the windows firewall and have even tried turning that off.
the odd thing is other computers can access it just fine it only seems that the outgoing connections from this computer are not working.
but as a front end to a media center... it makes this computers kind of useless.

Can anyone please help?

I have just sucessfully upgraded to W7. Phew.

Problem is I cannot access the shared folders on our Homeserver (Windows Home Server) via our wireless LAN. I know the computer is connecting to the internet (I am using it to lodge this post) and I can print. I can also login to the Homeserver console and RDP into the Homeserver from the subject computer.

When I go into the network I can see the WHS but when I attempt to connect I get a message saying "Windows cannot access \\Homeserver" and when I click view details it says "Error code 0x80070035 The network path was not found"

I have reviewed some posts on this matter on Tech Support Guy and there are many very helpful solutions but I cannot seem to work out which of the problems and solutions identified for those people apply to me. So I thought I'd log a new post.
