Preferred Solution: Security closed down errors?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Security closed down errors?

You need to run some online scans to remove spyware and virus...
And then take some action to protect yourself for the future.

I'm running Win2K, on a 2 Gig machine w/ almost a gig of RAM. I have a pier to pier network w/ my hubby's machine, and we share each others printers. The problem is Spoolsv.exe keeps dumping all my printers whenever I try to print to any of the printers. A reboot brings them back and I might be able to print one thing, but then it will dump the printers again. I recently removed some bogus spyware or something that was infecting my registry files. That brought me back to the other computer and printer but now I can't print anything on either system. Any help? Windows support files did not shine much light. The exact message is. "Spoolsv.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows." or the instruction at "0x77fcc35a" referenced memory at "0x0002fffa". Could not be read. Click ok to terminate program. This has all worked properly in the past by the way. That's the frustrating part!!!!!!

Hi everyone. I'm trying to clean out someone's Windows 2000 Professional laptop of spyware and viruses today. I did a SpyBot search and destroy, and it found many items. I removed them, and then immediately after doing so it gives me this message whenever trying to use anything that uses Windows Explorer (My Computer, Control Panel, etc):

Explorer.exe Has Generated Errors and Will Be Closed by Windows
An error log has been created
[ OK ]

I've looked at a couple MSDN articles about it, such as this one. That machine once had Norton SystemWorks on it, but that was a very long time ago. I followed those steps, and on method three where it lists "Rename the Apitrap.dll file to Apitrap.old.", there is no Apitrap.dll file in C:\WINNT\System32 or C:\Windows\System32.

Also, as one of the articles suggested, I tried to go to Control Panel (in safe mode), and it gave me this error:

mshta.exe Has Generated Errors and Will Be Closed by Windows
An error log has been created
[ OK ]

For that, I did this. No luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If I open Excel 2000 and click Insert>Object the classic Excel error appears:

"Excel.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. An error log is being created"

Things I have tried:

1. Detect and repair
2. Excel /a from the run command
3. Removed an reinstalled Office 2000
4. Searched MSKB.

Note: this is a company laptop. I logged the user off and logged on as myself. I got the same error so a profile rebuild is not an option.

Does anyone know where the error log the message creates is on the pc? (Windows 2000).

I doubt this will help since I have XP but ...

I've notice for sometime now, that Opera (version 12 build 1467) randomly response with this "Error: Connection Closed by Remote Server" when i load a web page... weird thing is, i just click refresh (or his back then click on whatever link i clicked on) and the page load back fine....

This happens quite often... but i never experience this on Chrome... I've been using Opera for the last 5 years or so and this started appearing when i was with Opera 11...

This doesn't happen on a particular website...

Anyone experience this problem before?

I've seen that a few times using Opera 12/1467 with XP Home. It doesn't happen often enough to be a problem and I can't now remember when it first started.

If you type that error message into the search box in 'Opera Support' you'll see lots of theories as to a possible cause in the first thread listed (although it is about Opera not working at all!); http://my.opera.com/community/forums/search.dml?term=connection+closed+by+remote+server&id=2

I had Microsoft Security Essentials on my IE7.
I had an "update Java" type prompt that I tried to close.

Suddenly MSE closed, I don't seem to have it available anymore.
That fake Security program tried to run, but I closed it.
I ran RKill, currently running Malwarebytes Scan.
Any advice?
I tried to re-download MSE Upgrades - it would not work.
I don't seem to have any other issues - yet.

I went into the security center, and saw that the service was off. I tried to turn it on, and a message popped up saying "the security center service cannot be started;"

I checked services, and saw that security center is missing from there as well.

So what can I do? I also don't know when this started to happen.

Anyway, I am using 32-bit vista, pentium dual core, T4200 @ 2.00 gHz, 4 GB ram.

Oops, I seem to have made a similar thread to this one, but I didn't realize that it still exists.

Ok, it seems that thread has been moved, but I don't really think there is technical support over there, or is there? What I need is some help in trying to solve why security center is not shown in services.

I am having difficulty running WinFax on this one particular machine which is runs Win2k. I have installed this software many times and this is the first time I have come across this error.

I cannot even start the program. The instant I run the Controller for WinFax 10.0, I receive an error like...

WFXCTL32.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows.

Or when I try to open the Manager the file is FAXMNG32.exe.

I have followed all the instructions that I could find at Symantec and other people's suggestions on the web, but to no success. I keep continuously getting the same error.

Some things that I have tried is using Windows Remove Software, deleting the folders myself, removing all Symantec registry keys, and even disk cleanup (although I don't understand how that helps but was suggested by Symantec).

Any help or suggestions or possible would be greatly appreciated.

While the laptop is plugged in, closing the lid works properly (in my case, sleeps) and when the lid is subsequently opened it wakes correctly.
If I close the lid while unplugged, the laptop seems to power off hard - the front LED goes out immediately, and when I open the lid the machine boots from cold. The event viewer shows a critical Kernel Power error.
If I close the lid while plugged in, the front LED blinks - I assume this means going to sleep?, but then if I unplug power the machine powers off hard - same reboot and critical error when I open the lid.
I have 1.2.21 firmware.
Any ideas how to fix this?

Didn't know what forum to place this in. Having issues with Kerberos Errors and my SCCM server. I have another issue, but I think this is related. I get the following event in my PC.

The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the server aas-vm-sccm$. The target name used was HTTP/aas-vm-sccm.aas.global.amphenol-sensors.com. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Please ensure that the target SPN is registered on, and only registered on, the account used by the server. This error can also happen when the target service is using a different password for the target service account than what the Kerberos Key Distribution Center (KDC) has for the target service account. Please ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both updated to use the current password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (AAS.GLOBAL.AMPHENOL-SENSORS.COM) is different from the client domain (AAS.GLOBAL.AMPHENOL-SENSORS.COM), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server.
Now when I run the setspn -Q http/tnwd07190.aas.global.amphenol-sensors.com I get

Earlier today I cleared all recent history (Cookies, Cache, etc) and perhaps visited a site that could have sent me a virus.

Since them, the sites I regularly visit (Facebook, Yahoo) are not able to confirm their security and are forcing me to create an exception. I can't log on to my regular client-server programs like Windows Messenger (it's telling me that the it is currently unavailable). Sometimes I am being redirected to sites that I have never tried to go to, and earlier it asked me if I was ready to install Internet Explorer 9 (I use Firefox and did not request that).

I have restarted my computer and my wireless internet connection. Has anyone experienced this and fixed it?

I have Windows Vista Home Edition and use Internet Explorer 9. I stopped using my PC for a couple of months, as I had no internet access. When I resumed internet service through Comcast cable, as soon as I went online, I started getting security certificate warnings and errors at practically every site. Also, when I click on links in web pages, I get errors about the page not found, and it's been a complete mess. I have run virus scans and malware scans twice and all is well here. In desperation, I installed Reg Cure Pro to see if it would fix the problem, but it did not. Another thing that is happening is that I'll click on a link to a web page but the page that opens isn't for the website that the link was for.

I don't know what could be wrong. The last time I used my PC prior to restarting internet service, it was fine. The clock's date and time are up to date.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

On a friends pc, whenever I run liveupdate, the virus defs update, but the Anti-Virus program will not update. It says it cannot update the savrtgui.dll...research shows that this is related to Auto-Protect by Symantec. I have uninstalled the program using the RNAV, RNIS, and even Symclean tools. I have also downloaded the registry removal tools. Made sure all of the associated folders were deleted as well as the Symantec folder in the Registry under HKLM & HKCU. And after all of this, on a SUPER Clean install, it loads fine, but I still get the error that savrtgui.dll cannot be updated.

There is no info on symantecs site in ref to this file, but to the Anti-virus not being updated...and I have performed there 3 steps to no avail. Someone mentioned uninstalling the program completely AGAIN, and unregistering the dll, have not tried that. Surely there must be a better way. The OS is 98SE.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance.

I recently changed my computer and after installing Windows XP SP3, I also installed Eset NOD32 Smart Security 4.
At first it all went all, until yesterday, when starting Windows I encountered two errors from NOD32, one about starting a proxy server, which I do NOT use, the other about the firewall that does not work. Errors prints attached.
Where can this be from and how can it be solved??
Note: Reinstalling didn't work.

The security certificate presented by this website was issued for a different website's address.
I received subject error several times with the above statement when trying to access my bank credit card info. I contacted the bank and explained the problem. Bank stated problem was my browser (IE11) and site was secure.

I have accessed the site many times with IE11 without the error. Anyone ever experience the same ? Can these certificate errors be false, a result of browser incompatibility, or another problem ?

Right, im running out of ideas!
Ive recently reinstalled my system, full format, full reinstall of everything etc.
I had only got as far as windows, firefox, winamp winrar and other lightweight apps.
I was in the process of starting to load applications back on such as photoshop, etc and came across a few problems. I have also being changing settings at the same time in between each restart. Unfortunately, I now dont really know what has caused the problems.

The first one is the Windows security Alert. It pops up and upon investigation, it says that I need to turn automatic updates on. When I click to turn them on they do indeed turn on but the security centre does not seem to know so. It therefore wont go away. Obviously I can change the settings to tell it not to monitor this and it will go away but this isnt really a prevention, its just hiding the problem.

Secondly, during boot up, I get the 'no disk' (c0000013) error message.
I changed drive letters for my DVD drives and secondary HDD so I suspect this is it. What is strange is there there is nothing installed on the HDD or anything in the DVD drives that windows should be looking for. Also, when I deleted the list of recently used docs, the problem went away on restart, and came back on a subsequent restart.

Finally (and this may be just a clue rather than a problem in its own right) explorer need to end task every time I restart.

All these things happened after I had changed the drive letters and also ins... Read more

A:Windows security alert - & various other errors

Well I have solved a few of the problems but seem to have generated more. I have got rid of the windows security centre but only by telling it not to monitor the updates anymore....not really a solution!
I have also stopped the 'No Disk' error by clearing out my 2nd HDD and removing shortcuts etc after renaming the drives.

Explorer still needs to end task on every shut down.

I have now installed Adobe suite CS3 and also office 2003 with seemingly no additional problems. However, opening any file from windows and even loading pages in Firefox seems to be taking much longer than it should. Something is going on in the background each time i open a file. Is there any way of keeping an eye on what is happening in the background as I am doing things on the pc and therefore try and track down problems?

Hi Everyone!

I have recently been getting security errors and wonder if I have some virus or it is my server or onboard filter.

I use K9 on my computer.

When I am on Amex's site and I try searching or stuff I sometimes get this message - "The site's security certificate is not trusted!
You attempted to reach search.americanexpress.com, but the server presented a certificate issued by an entity that is not trusted by your computer's operating system. This may mean that the server has generated its own security credentials, which Google Chrome cannot rely on for identity information, or an attacker may be trying to intercept your communications."

A few times a day a window pops up on my screen saying something like "this site's security certificate is not trusted etc." about netspark.com with an icon on the start menu of java.

Thanks for any help or advice!

Hi everyone,

Just found this forum. Hopefully there's someone here who could shed some light on my problem.

Several of my computers have security descriptor errors as reported by Norton's Disk Check and Microsoft's Check Disk. Each one goes through the process of rebooting the machine and attempting to "fix" the erros, but regardless of which utility I use, neither one is able to fix them.

One of the computers is a fresh install. The other one I've been using for a while. I've ruled out physical problems with the hard drives (using HD Tune) and ruled out RAM-related problems using Memtest.

What am I overlooking here? Does anyone have any ideas?

A:Help! Security descriptor errors driving me insane

hello & welcome to TSF,

lets try this for starters to see if we can get your chkdsk working right so that the issues may be resolved brfor going into more intense trouble shooting or tacktics

now what i need to do is go to your (device manager)

now once there you will want to select from the toolbar of the window(veiw) then a drop down menu / from it you will select (show all hidden devices)

now if you see any (red or yellow) quotation marks , make a note of what they

now go to the (event veiwer) this is thru the (administrator tools) in the control panel
here you will find 3 to 4 subcatagories

you will want to check each of them for this is where windows keeps track of all errors
now you will want to make notes of the errors that have been recorded ( you do not have to make notes of double entries just of the dates of their happenings & how many there is)
you will get more information on the errors if you (right) click them / then select properties

Insert your XP disk and boot from the disk
Select recovery console
follow the promts until you are in DOS
at the above prompts type FIXMBR

This will fix the Master Boot Record for Windows it will ask you if you are sure and follow the prompts

once complete type CHKDSK /r
that is CHKDSK space /r
this will check the disk and repair any bad sectors

I am having a strange problem with an old Toshiba Satellite 1000 laptop running XP Professional SP3. There is a boot delay that is similar to the delay that occurs in Windows 7 when some services are set to "Delayed Start," but Windows XP doesn't have that option. This computer actually has two delays. First, explorer.exe takes an extremely long time to start when Windows boots. Next, some ostartup items will only start after a delay.

Next, this computer thinks that most security certificates contain errors, but the same websites work on other computers without giving any errors. I have seen this happen when the date is set incorrectly, but the date and time are correct.

Finally, Malwarebytes will not update, possibly because of the security certificate issue. I get the following error code:
PROGRAM_ERROR_UPDATING (0, 0, Host not found)

What is wrong? Could it be AOL or some old malware interfering? This computer only had SP1 on it until last week, but it was last connected to the Internet in 2008.

So I have a new computer that I just installed a new security software, CA internet security suite 2009. I had uninstalled the Norton Security that had come with it because i didn't really like it and the the CA ISS was on sale. Anyway to my problem...

Now I'm getting errors form Windows Vista that says Host Process has stop working, windows is looking for a solution.
CA has no help solution for this problem on their support website. I can't really see if this is effecting how my computer runs but I get the error all the time. I was just seeing if there was a something I could do to fix the problem.

Thanks Jen

I tried to upload 3 files for everyone to see. I have asked this question in general. However, I neatened it up and clarified some things.

Most "secure" operations I do on the internet seem to give me errors. While it primarily seems to be Google it is any site. I ran multiple virus and maleware scans. I have tried clean and fresh installs of IE, Chrome & Mozilla, I still get the same errors. I see no serious errors in my event log. Though I do not fully understand a lot. But I am having a serious problem. Sites I have been using for years, several all of the sudden are asking for security certs. I've used Penzu (attached) for yrs. Sometimes over the last 3-4 days it asks me for a cert other times it does not. I have a different cpu on another IP. I do not have these issues
