New Belkin Switch2 usb problems

Q: New Belkin Switch2 usb problems

Hi Guys

Does anyone have experience with the Belkin Switch2 device - I think it is called a Belkin Flip in the U.S. ? It is a device that lets you plug one mouse, and one keyboard (both usb) and one monitor (vga) into two computers. You can then flip control from one machine to the other at the touch of a button.

I have a home PC running Windows XP home edition and an ATI Radeon graphics card driving an iiyama monitor via the ATI Catalyst control software settings. My seconf machine is my employer's laptop - a brand new Dell Inspiron running Windows XP professional.

The Belkin unit is brand new and is working fine on both the PC and the laptop - especially the laptop (no problems at all) once I go through a strange rutual at start up of the home PC which totally defeats the object of being able to automatically switch control to the monitor, mouse and keyboard.

The issue is that everytime I boot the PC (XP home edition) from cold (not a warm reboot which works okay), XP starts up and gets to the "click here to login" stage and shuts down instantly without any reason given. It just says "Windows is shutting down". To get around the problem, I have to disconnect the Belkin from the VGA input socket and plug the monitor into the PC vga socket directly and do a reboot. This starts up perfectly without problem. Then if I unplug the monitor from the vga and plug it into the Belkin (and plug the Belkin into the PC vga socket) everything works great and I can switch between laptop and PC.

I assume that Windows XP home edition (or perhaps the ATI Catalyst control software) is unhappy on startup as it perhaps thinks the monitor is not plugged in or such like and this is why it decides to shut down. However, if this is the reason it is strange because the monitor does appear to be working through the Belkin even though something is causing the restart. I can watch all this happening on the monitor....

Any ideas guys or any experience of this type of problem with this unit?

Thanks

Tim

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have just installed a belkin wireless router, but now i cant sign into msn messenger, it says a firewall is blocking it although windows & mcafee firewalls are turned off, I can only think it has something to do with the router firewall, but I dont know how to do it, any ideas please?

many thanks

A:Belkin Problems with msn

use split halves to prove the router is your problem.

disconnect it and cable the system directly to the modem and reboot the system. if msn is still blocked, then it's your firewall and not the router

I have a desktop and in the distance in the same house a laptop, both on W7. I'm trying to connect the laptop to the internet via a Belkin Powerline. Sometimes it works but not always. I've consulted Belkin who have come to the conclusion that there is no facility on my computer to set up a LAN (it does not show in the list of option in Network and Sharing Centre). I'm mystified because why does it work sometimes but not others, and why does my laptop not have this facility anyway?

A:Problems with Belkin Powerline and no LAN

What EXACT option are you missing?

Belkin Powerline is connected to laptop using a network cable.
The other Belkin Powerline is connect to router using a network cable.... correct???

Please connect another laptop to the powerline... same problem?
Connect the laptop directly to the router using a network cable... same problem?

Ill start from the beginning,
I have bt voyager 220v connected to my pc for internet and recently bought a belkin wireless g router to use wireless with a laptop. All was connected and working fine for couple weeks then all of a sudden just stopped, the internet works fine when connected direct to the pc again but will not recognise anything going through the wireless router.

I contacted a pc guy i know who advised the following: The new modem probably needs you to enter the account name/password to connect.

and I understand that the BT voyager 220V modem/router user name/password is entered on the WAN configuration screen using the web based setup for the modem but im not sure how to access this information?

Please could you help??

A:belkin wireless problems

First off, please post the exact model of the router.

Second, let's see this when connected directly to the modem.
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

IPCONFIG /ALL

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

Hi,

After much deliberation, i bought myself a belkin Wireless Cable/DSL Gateway router and 2 Wireless PC Cards for my home network. I tried installing the drivers for the gateway, and it couldn't find it. So I tried the alternative method. It said to open up the web brower and type '192.168.2.1' to access the settings of the router.... it couldn't find it also.

I have tried almost everything possible; new cables, changing IP and subnet mask addresses but nothing seems to work.

Does anyone have any ideas at all on how to access this settings page on the router itself?

Thanks very much in advance,

Dayne

** The 3-step quick install instructions make it look so easy

A:Belkin Router Problems

First off, to access the router's configuration page, you need to use a wired connection, the wireless connection won't do it.

If you have a CAT5 patch cord connected from a NIC on one machine to one of the LAN ports of the router, try the following:

- Set TCP/IP properties to obtain IP and DNS addresses automatically.

- Reboot and try the web browser with 192.168.2.1 again.

Hello.

We used to be connected with Tiscali until a couple of months ago. When we were with Tiscali we were using a Belkin F5D7632-4 Wireless G router and, ok, so it kept dropping out, but we had wireless connection which was great.

When we changed to BT we were sent a BT Voyager 220V ADSL router which is connected at the moment via USB connection to the computer. When we try and plug the Belkin in we can't get a conenction to the internet, let alone have anything running on Wireless.

The signal speed is only as much as 512K on a good day .. but is that any reason why we can't get any sort of connection (wired or wireless) on the Belkin ?

Can anyone suggest another wireless router that may be better? I have an old BT Home Hub (the white one) - Is it worth trying that ?

Any advice would be appreciated
Thanks

A.

A:Belkin Router problems

First off, you may have to configure the WAN section of the router with the proper parameters for the new service.

Also, there's this...

http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/index.cfm?action=showthread&threadid=228171&forumid=18

I would just like to warn anybody who owns the v2000 vesrion of the belkin F5D7632-4 adsl modem router to be extremely cautious in updating their firmware to the latest 1.01.10 version which has recently appeared on the official belkin website.

When I updated to the new firmware it completely ruined the wireless connectivity of my router and as a result I had to replace the router. I also contacted belkin technical support but they could not offer a solution.

I would therefore suggest that any F5D7632-4 v2000 owners do not update their firmware as it could kill the wireless connectivity of their router. It could have just been that I was unlucky but I would strongly advise against a firmware update.Click to expand...

Hi and welcome.

Well first of all have you switched the Wireless adapter on your laptop on?
there's usually a little sliding switch at the front, back, side, or underneath your laptop. check the manual and the manual wil show you where?

We use a Belkin Router with a Verizon Internet connection. This router publishes a wireless network with a router IP of 192.168.2.1, and all devices connected are tagged with IP addresses 192.168.2.x. Everything was working fine until recently when the main computer and router were moved. Something went wrong and now I cannot get my laptop to connect unless I disable the security features. It has WPA, WEP, and WPA2 options. When ever I use any of them the laptop allows me to configure the connection but for some reason won't save the options I use. The router says to use WPA with a TKIP or AES encyption. The laptop will not save the TKIP option and continues to return to AES. I believe this is the problem. Even when I get the settings to be accepted occasionally the computer tells me there was a "Problem applying the Profile" set up for this connection. I am at a complete loss of what to do other then leaving the security open. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A:Solved: Belkin n-450 problems

can we see the following information from the HP

what wireless security are you using ?
you may want to log into the router and remove the wireless security and see if the HP now connects
------------------------------------------------------------------------
ipconfig /all
If you cannot access the internet with this PC, then you will need to paste the results into something like notepad and then copy onto a machine that can access the internet and post results here

We would like to see the results from ipconfig /all post back the results in a reply here

Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt box (A new dialogue box - black with white font, will appear on screen ):

In the command prompt window that opens, type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

ipconfig /all > network.txt & network.txt

It will export the results to notepad and then automatically open notepad.

Now all you need to do is copy and paste those results to a reply here
to do that:
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Select all
all the text will be highlighted
Next
From the notepad menu - choose Edit - Copy
Now go back to the forum - reply and then right click in the reply box and paste

I have a problem with my belkin router whereby the internet stops working and all internet applications like my online gaming stop working. However my wireless displays working properly.

If i use belkins network utility it displays wireless network working and internet to router displays off.

I solve the problem by going to my router page and commanding my router to restart.

Before I used the Belkin router I used the 02 router that came with my package and i got the same problem though much less frequently. This time i solved it by repairing my wireless connection [windows option].

This does not work with the belkin and I have to restart the router.

I have a wireless network set up with a Belkin F5D7130 802.11g router, Netgear network adapter and using Verison DSL.

This setup has worked more or less ok over the last month since I set it up. Yesterday, however, I could not detect my router (no SSID showed up). I've tried restarting the router and DSL modem and rebooting my computer. Nothing seems to work. However, my SSID did show up briefly and I was able to connect for about 2 minutes before it disappeared again.

I can get on to neighbor's networks which suggests that the network adapter is not the issue. Anyone have any suggestions?

Right then. I've had my network up and running fine for months, however today its stopped working.

My computer connected to the router functions perfectly as usual, yet my upstairs computer and other things i connect to the network with fail. I've restarted and powered off/on, fiddled my settings etc. all to no effect.

One thing i did find odd, on a net test i ran with a xbox 360, it showed no DNS, IP, default gateway etc. All were showing as 0.0.0.0.

The router itself is a Belkin Wireless G-Router, model # F5D7633-4 Ver. 1144uk

I am 16 so while not computer illiterate, i'm not amazing either, though the network was set up by me and has functioned for about 9 months up till now.

Edit: Its also not the signal reaching the reciever, as my computer is showing 4 out of 5 signal. The computer stalls when trying to connect to the network, and i've tried reseting my WPA key to make sure its right

Any thoughts guys? Or any questions on anything i may have missed out?

Thanks in advance

Hello, I've found this forum in desperation really, I can't figure this problem out. I have purchased a Belkin "Wireless G All-In-One Print Server" and have plugged it into my Sky Router, to join it onto my network, just like the manual says to do. After installing the print server as it says to do, I plugged my Printer into it. I connected to it via Belkin's Print Server manager and Vista instantly started installing the printer. I tried printing a Test page and it got halfway then the Print Spool crashed, I can get it to start to print if I uninstal then reinstall everything, but after one attempt, Vista says that the Printer is offline.

If I unplug the printer from the Print Server, Vista makes a sound as if I've unplugged it physically. The port that Vista has installed it into is USB001. Vista detects the disconnecting and reconnecting of it though.
Any ideas, please?

Hello everyone,
I have just built a new PC as of last night and I am having problems connecting to the internet. I bought a Belkin N150 F9L1001 USB adapter for the computer so I could access the internet but, sadly, it is not working for me. The problem is that every couple of minutes while I am connected, it will show my network as not having any internet access. When this shows, I troubleshoot the program and windows shows that it had reset the network adapter (because "the default gateway is not available) and then I'm connected to the internet again. I've been all over the forums here and have tried to fix the problem to the best of my abilities. I have even tried using the adapter in a different computer, which worked, so I know we can rule that out. Anyways, any help provided would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I have set up a wireless network in my home. Everything seems to be connected ok, it sends and receives packages in the connection properties and I can access the internet from the connection on both computers but I cannot view the shared files on other stations in the network. File and printer sharing is enabled on both and the hard drive and shared folder file sharing are enabled on both. It is a wireless connection, a router connected by an intranet connection cable to the network card on one system and an internal wireless network card on the other. Both are fully compatible.

A:Belkin Problems-file shareing

From your description so far, my first guess is that you're running XP, and haven't told XP's built in firewall to allow incoming connections for file/print sharing.

If that's not it, the following things also need to be checked:

Both computers must be part of the same workgroup or domain.

The two machine need to have the same username/password to login to the boxes.

They must be able to ping each other.

I have a Belkin n+ f5d8235-4 v2 and I have reset the router and then I had to manually reconfigure everything and I may have messed something up. The router has two blinking amber lights: the modem and internet lights.

-First, I set up a new password
-Next, I went to Connection Type and set up - Dynamic, then entered my ISP host name and clicked apply.
-Next, I went to MAC address cloning, and just clicked apply as the boxes were already filled with characters.
-Next, I went to Channel and SSID and left everything the same except I changed my SSID name and took off the box marked broadcast SSID then clicked apply . The wireless channel was set to auto and current channel was 11 and extension channel was set to auto.
Next, I went to Security, Security Type: WPA-PSK, Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK and entered a new PSK and clicked obscure PSK then apply
Next, I went to Guest Access and enabled radio, created ssid name, Security: WPA/WPA2 PSK, Authentication: WPA-PSK + WPA2-PSK then entered the same PSK as before and clicked obscure PSK then apply.
For some reason, when I go back to both of the previous two screens, the new password I created does not show up, only my old one but when I type the new password into my wifi network, it connects.

Hey, Chris here. Long time Belkin user, first time complainer.

To cut a long story short, for no apparent reason my brother's laptop, although connected to the router, stopped recieving the internetz. He had full strength signal, neither of us had changed any settings to either the laptop or the router.

I really had no idea where to even start, so i took a random stab in the dark and updated the firmware (from 1.0.17 to 1.0.23). This has seemingly fixed the issue (of course before i updated the firmware i restarted both the laptop and the router, checked the settings to see if anything had changed etc etc)

Now, a couple of weeks ago i found that my password for the router had suddenly stopped working. I don't access it often, but i have a good and easy to remember (for me) passwording system. When i went to update the firmware it asked for my password, so i had to hard reset the router.

The default password for Belkin is no password. So once i had reset the router i was able to log in with no password, update the firmware etc. But i want a password on the router. So i go to the system setting, which has the customary 'current', 'new' and 'retype' password boxes. I left the first blank (obviously) and typed the same password into the other two. When i hit 'apply' however, it says 'invalid old password entered'.

This, of course, is absurd, as i just used the blank password to login to the damn thing. I have lo... Read more

I have a belkin wireless G USB Network Adapter which looks like this:

And I have a router:

http://www.hal-pc.org/journal/2006/06_july/0706-Belkin-Router-Graphic.jpg

Okay before I start with my problems I just want to say I've called Belkin tech support about 12 times and this issue has never been resolved. And if it has, it lasts for a few minutes like when we switch the channels.

Okay there are 2 computers:

One is a laptop that is standard Windows XP Home edition. It has a built-in wireless networking card (I don't know what it is) but if I were to guess some standard dell one that came with it. It works completely fine with the network.

Then there's my desktop which is Windows XP Home edition. It is a pentium 4 1.99 GHz, 250 gb HDD, and 512 MB DDR1 RAM. I don't think the specs matter much but there they are anyways...

Okay the problems are:

When I start the computer it takes a good 3-5 minutes to go online. I see the tv icon appear and it connects instantly but the internet connection is non-existent for 3-5 minutes for some reason. Under properties sent is high but recieved is very low it's like 100-200 kb per every 45 seconds.

I get constant dropped connections. No matter what I do on the internet whether I download, browse youtube, send e-mails etc. The connection drops for a good 15 seconds every 5-10 minutes then comes back on full speed just fine.

Hi,
Hope someone can help me.
I've got a Belkin router, and I've got one laptop connected to it with no problems.
I've bought another laptop & I can't connect to the router.
I've accessed the router online & got the Pre-shared Key (PSK) which I assume is the Network key that I'm being asked for, but it doesn't connect.
I don't get an error message, it just doesn't connect.
Am I doing something wrong.
Please be gentle with me, computers really aren't my thing!
Thank you so much.

I moved this to networking since you will probably get more help in that forum than the HW forum.

I have the PCI Belkin F5D7000 v7000 Wireless Card.

It has the Realtek RTL8185L chipset.

This card has given me nothing but problems. The computer is running a fresh Windows XP install at the moment. I installed the drivers as Belkin instructs (install software, turn off computer, plug in the card, restart), and the wireless card is detected by Windows.

I can see our Home wireless connection, but the computer refuses to connect to it.

The Belkin utility says "This connection has Limited or No Connectivitiy" when I use it.
Windows XP's wireless utility refuses to connect to the network. It can see it, but if I try to connect, it states, "Windows is unable to connect to the network" etc

My laptop, in the same room, is connected to the network via wireless and is flawless. I don't get one drop out.

On rare occasions, on reboot, the wireless SOMETIMES connects, and I can get on the internet. This doesn't last long, with the Internet dropping out, massive lag spikes and I cannot reconnect, I get sent back to the error message stated above.

I reinstalled Windows XP just in case of something fishy, and that hasn't helped.

I also have used drivers for the Realtek chipset (doesn't even let me use wireless, so useless), the Belkin drivers on the CD, and the latest Belkin drivers for the V7 card, off Belkin's website. Both Belkin drivers give me the same problem which I've mentioned above.

I have a Belkin F5D7230-4 Wireless G Router connected to my desktop running XP Pro. I connect to my router with my Toshiba Satellite M115-S1061 laptop that's running Vista Ultimate. I've had my router for about 8 months now and have had no problems with it. But about two weeks ago it started acting up. The signal is strong and the taskbar icon shows I'm connected, but it won't connect all the way to the Internet. The problems is not only with my laptop, because the connection to the Internet is also lost at the desktop. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the router, but no change. Any suggestions???

Sounds like either your ISP is having a problem, or the router and/or modem is the issue.

From the desktop connected directly to the modem, please do this.

Register at DSLReports and run their Line Quality Tests. Post the results link from the top of the test display page here.

Hi. I recently installed Windows Vista home premium x64 on my Athlon 64 system and
plugged in my Belkin F5D7050 wireless G usb adapter, only to find out that,
of course the drivers didn't work. Went online, using my laptop, downloaded the latest and greatest drivers and I installed the driver and the device still doesn't work.
For instance, when I set it to search for wireless networks nearby (which it
should find mine), the activity light on it doesn't even flash once. It
hasn't flashed ever since I plugged it in after installing Vista. So my
question is, is there a driver that would work with my adapter, and if there
isn't could you recommend a low cost wireless usb adapter that would work
with Vista home premium x64? Thank you for your help, sword182.

I have a Belkin Modem/Router, a main PC (which is successfully connected to the router modem by ethernet cable), and four laptops in the house.

As we were having problems with wifi connectivity on the laptops in use upstairs, I purchased 2 Belkin Powerline AV 200mbps units and managed to get them running thus connecting one laptop to the Internet through the ethernet LAN and with the laptop's wifi switched off.

As a result I purchased 2 additional Belkin Powerline Units for two more of the laptops. These are 1000 mbps HD units - and here my problems started.

I have both the HD units plugged in. They are showing blue lights for power and security (we successfully reset the password for all four units as instructed in the manual) - but no light for connection most of the time.

I say "most of the time" because we have at times had an amber light for connectivity showing on the Belkin HD Unit - but at no time have we had any internet connectivity on the laptops using the HD devices - irrespective of the colour of the LED on the Belkin.

We have tried various diagnostic tools on Windows but without success. The laptops do not connect to the internet when we are using the Belkin HD units assigned to them. The laptops CAN connect by wifi but the connection drops off from time to time - which is where we started from.

My understanding is that the HD and AV units are compatible.

Can anyone suggest anything else we should be doing?

Many thanks

Ian

Bought this adapter a few hours ago, and after attempting to install it, have decided to console trusty techspot for advice. Basically, I followed the "Easy 2-Step Guide" that Belkin provide, to its entirety, and the result was that when I opened up the Belkin wireless utility it couldn't find a signal, or even a network.

So, first thing's first: move closer to the router. So I did...to about 1.5m away, and still nothing. Hmm. Then, after much playing around with useless settings in the utility I decided to call Belkin support. The guy spent 20 minutes getting me to do this and that, and ended up saying that I had to change a channel or something on my BT router. Does anyone know if this could be the answer to getting connected to the network, and if so, how do I change the channel thingy?

As always, any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

some obvious things to check first;

is the router configured to ALLOW wireless (it can be off)
did you check your pc device mgr to see if the device is enabled

Hi guys,
I have a brand new Belkin N+ router. It was working fine from last 10 months. But recently , say from last 20 days happening a issue with the wireless router. the internet will work for few hours properly, suddenly Internet will cut off or wireless router hanged up for a few seconds. the led for internet will either go off or go orange. Sometimes even the modem led will turn off or go orange. It takes about 10 seconds then its back on or else I need to restart the router. After restarting the router, the Internet will work fine.

Any suggestions on what the problem could be?

Much appreciated.

If the modem is losing the connection, I'd start there. Make sure the connections to the modem and router are secure, make sure you have good power (a UPS is a good idea here).

Another thing that you can do is update the firmware to the latest available and then reset to factory defaults and reconfigure. You wouldn't happen to be using P2P applications now, would you? Those will drive many routers up the wall.

Hey there,
I'm wondering if somebody can help me. I've recently aquired a wireless router for my broadband from BT. I can get my desktop up and running on the wireless network with the usb adaptor but my laptop will not connect with the wireless card. When I set up the connection to auto detect IP address and DNS the IP address 169.254.96.11 keeps appearing. I don't know where this comes from because the router address is 192.168.1.1. Even when I manually confirgure the settings it still wont connect. When i try to repair the connection there's a problem flushing the arp cache. The only other thing i can think of is the network key may not be entered in the right place. Its an ascii key and I've put it in the passphrase box. Any help on the issue would be greatly welcomed as I'm starting to lose it with this problem.
Thanks,
hapless.

A:Belkin wireless card problems

to setup the wireless, the instructions usually say
hardwire the the system to the router first to setup the configuration.
The 169.254.*.* tells you that DHCP is not enabled or configured correctly.
Typical config is
set a non-default SSID
let it broadcast
for the time being, leave WPA and WEP off
enable DHCP for both the IP and DNS addressesIn the wired mode, the new system should be connecting correctly and
ipconfig /all should have a 192.168... number
In the wireless mode, you should SEE your SSID and be able to connect.

Now go back to the router and set WPA or WEP on and set your keys.

My router works fine, but the problem happens ONLY when i set my xbox 360 outside of the firewall using the DMZ feature. The firewall is ON on my router and then i set my xbox outside of the firewall (which makes xbox live happy) BUT then my computers internet completely stops working.. the only way to get it to work is to turn OFF the firewall all together which then makes my xbox not happy while on live. It seems i can only have one or the other i dont get it, why is my computers internet cutting out when i set the xbox outside of the firewall? I'd set them both outside of the firewall if i could, but the xbox needs to have NAT set to open and the only way i can manage that is by using the DMZ feature (turning the firewall off completely doesnt seem to do it)
