Preferred Solution: Microsoft-Windows-Security-Auditing failure

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Do you still need help with this? If so, please post back and I'll see what assistance I can provide.

Please provide these reports (even if not experiencing BSODs) so we can provide a complete analysis: https://www.eightforums.com/bsod-cra...tructions.html

Please also do this:
- open Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hi! I've been using Windows 10 for a while now and except for one time where my start button and notification tray stopped working (solved that by migrating to a new user account), I haven't had any problems.

Except maybe a week ago.

Consistently during use (either for simple browsing or whatever), I keep hearing multiple instances of the sound I hear whenever a new device is plugged in (i.e. USB Flash Disk). It's REALLY annoying.

At first I though it was because my graphics card was failing (it is). I though that because of this, whenever my PC needed to do graphics-processing intensive tasks, like downloading a large image, the card bugged out and so the PC responded by believing that the hardware was being plugged back in and out.

Apparently, this is wrong. I finally got fed up and checked my event viewer. Everything is hunky-dory EXCEPT the 'Security' category, which has an overwhelming number of events. I then monitored it and was witness to new events being created (as signified by the sound being played). Therefore, I can reliably assume that the sound I've been hearing has actually been this event happening over and over again.

Basically, every minute or so, a new event is created. It has the Event ID of 4798, Source: Security-Auditing, Task Category: User Account Management and Keywords: Audit Success.

I have hundreds of this. Please see attached image.

Any idea what could be the problem? Thanks!

A:Too Many 'Audit Success' Security-Auditing Events Happening

Did you ever find a solution? I'm having the identical issue with no luck searching the web for solutions. . .

Hello,

My dad has all his important files in a folder named "IMP" in E: in Windows 7. I've set auditing object access failure and enabled auditing on the IMP folder and denied read access and delete folder for all other users.

Everything is working fine and I can check the event viewer whenever my dad wants to have a look at the logs. The problem is I am not always present when he wants to have a look at the logs and since he isn't too tech savvy it would be very difficult for him to go to event viewer, filter the log with event id no. 4656, Event Sources: Microsoft Windows security auditing, Task category: File System.

I was wondering if there is an easier way of generating logs for eg. automatically create a notepad file with all those filters once the audit failure triggers.

Please help

Create a Custom View in Event Viewer, then he could just go to that item and view the relative log entries.

Hello Everybody,
We have a requirement in our project to audit all security relevant events on the system, including the start/stop of auditing functions. The problem is that windows is not registering the start of event log service when you manually stop/start the service.
There only an audit event on the system log, but linked to the system startup and not under security category when you do the start/stop manually. Is this a windows bug or a matter of configuration?
Best regards,
Alejandro.

probably by writing a bat file and executing with admin privileges... but you have to look if there is a way to do it with console commands to event viewer in the first place (it's likely possible).

I have a few of these "shortcuts", double click and Bam! A wall of commands gets executed. Time-saver man.

Why that anyway? If it is locked to other users what is there to log? Failed attempts to open it?

I really hope you are encrypting your drive, as this measure alone is a bit weak if the disk isn't encrypted. (a punk can simply boot that PC from a Linux liveCD or USB thumbdrive and access the unencrypted disk and those files ignoring the windows policy).

Has anyone had any luck with enabling Windows commandline process auditing as noted in the article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn535776.aspx
I've been testing this out on a Windows 7 Prof system to see how commands executed via the commandline are recorded in the event logs. I was able to enable all of the policy settings as noted in the article however upon testing I've noticed that not all
commands are being recorded. For example del, rename, and copy commands are not being recorded whereas other sys-admin type commands (ipconfig, netstat, nslookup..etc) are being recorded. My question is does anyone know why these commands are not being recorded
since according to the example in the article they should be?
Thanks

Hello and Welcome....
Here is something you may try, its a little program Called MyEventViewer by Nirsoft. No install required, its free and quite simple to use. Maybe your dad will not have any difficulty learning how to use it to view the logs.
Take a look at it here..... http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/my_event_viewer.html (change the hxxp to http)

I changed ownership of my C:\ in order to change permissions, be able to audit, and delete files which are locked. Usually system files are locked and I ignore those when prompted that they cannot be changed without admin approval (even providing admin approval doesn't allow their modification). I'm wondering what I have to do to be able to make decisions on my own system? Does anyone know a good step by step guide? My old Windows installation is taking up 17 gigs on my hard drive and I have a 230g hard drive. Needless to say space is precious with the size of downloads/installations being what they are (games that are 20g, Windows updates that are 3g..). Thanks in advance.

Hi

In your case I would take a Win XP disk and would try to reinstall the system.
Fact is that you are not able to boot in normal mode and safe mode? so I don?t see other solution for you.
Of course the blue screen of death might be related to hardware problem (HDD issue) and in such case the system installation would not fix it your problem. Then this would require new investigation?

Hello everyone, I just got my Lenovo Y70 from Amazon, I got a BSOD in the first 15 minutes, so I assumed auto updates were installing something nasty that would go away once they were done. So they're done, but the BSOD keeps on ticking.

The machine is 2 days old. Nothing has been installed yet.

Since it happened yesterday morning, I've:
1. Completed all Windows Updates (although it happened before any of them had the chance to cause it)
2. Reverted the device back to factory reset
3. Allowed for Troubleshooting tool from BIOS to take a whack at it, which it claimed has resolved the issue (at one point I couldn't even boot the machine) but then I got the BSOD during what appears to be random activities while using the laptop

I've attached the tool file as instructed, any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: Go as technical as you like.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the Graphics drivers yesterday and now I only seem to be getting the Kernel issue

So far I've gone through and updated the drivers.

What is your Q: drive? - there is no information available about it in MSINFO32.nfo

Daemon Tools (and Alcohol % software) are known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems (mostly due to the sptd.sys driver, although I have seen dtsoftbus01.sys blamed on several occasions).

Please un-install the program, then use the following free tool to ensure that the troublesome sptd.sys driver is removed from your system (pick the 32 or 64 bit system depending on your system's configuration): New link (15 Aug 2012): DuplexSecure - Downloads (pick the appropriate version for your system and select "Un-install" when you run it).

Hi crid86,

Welcome to the 8forums.

Please uninstall everything of AMD using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from AMD

Please remove the Gigabyte software, it is known for causing crashes.
Please remove Daemon tools, it is also known for causing crashes

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

The AMD Video drivers have been flagged a few times.
Below I have marked a parameter with the value 3, this simply means that something has been corrupted.
Sometimes it is extremely difficult to find the cause / solve the problem with this crash and parameter.
I sincerely hope that this is not the case.

Hi there

Recently, I upgraded my laptop from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10, but randomly, I get lots of BSODs, either Kernel Security Check Failure or Video TDR Failure igdkmd64.sys . However, these do not happen at the exact same time, ie when I log in, or boot up a certain programme (I think). They just occur out of the blue (no pun intended ).

Any help/advice/fixes would be super helpful, as I am completely lost

Hi brownieee,

Welcome to the 8forums.

I have checked the 3 most recent crashes, they look pretty much like each other.
Everytime the NETIO.sys file was marked which is the Network Input/Output System.
This usually points to the network drivers, but looking a little deeper the Nvidia Video driver is flagged.

Please uninstall everything of Nvidia using Display Driver Uninstaller and install new drivers from your manufacturer.
Please be careful with removing the right drivers as you have switchable GPU's.

Hi all,

I am using Windows 8.1 64 bit. I started getting the annoying BSOD of Kernel Security Check Failure since the past couple of days. It happens after my PC is on for a few minutes and will then restart and happen again after a few minutes. I first noticed this when I was browsing the internet. As far as I know, I haven't made any major changes to hardware/software over the past 2-3 days.

I have uploaded the dump files as suggested, by using the DM Log collector Tool created by John (z3r010).

I will be very grateful for any help - as my productivity has plummeted for the past 2 days!

Thank you,
Bob

When performing more demanding tasks, which I try to avoid, programs on my Windows 7 32-bit stop responding/freeze, and pressing CTRL+SHIFT+DELETE or CTRL+ALT+DELETE don't do anything until the system's had enough time to do whatever it's doing, after which point the screen turns black with just the mouse cursor, and, after a while, this error message pops up:

Failure to display security and shut down options
The logon process was unable to display security and logon options when CTRL+ALT+DELETE was pressed. If the operating system does not respond, press ESC or restart the computer by using the power switch.
[OK]

I hit OK, and the system comes back, but it's clear it still has freezing/performance issues, because the whole thing soon repeats again. I've found that, to fix it, even restarting isn't satisfactory, because doing so won't help the computer "forget" that it was overworked, so, instead, I shut it down, for no less than 15 minutes, then start it up again, and it acts fresh again. Then I have to be careful not to overwork it again.

But is there any way to help my Windows 7 take on those more straining processes? Googling "failure to display security and shut down options" surprisingly only gave me a few hits, and nothing helped.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255)

A:"Failure to display security and shut down options" (Windows 7, 32 bit)

Could you explain what programs you are trying to run that cause these problems?

With specs like that (high RAM, fast processor), you shouldn't be experiencing freeze-ups (even with heavy gaming and such).

And Windows 7 likely isn't your problem either. Unless you should be running 64-bit instead of 32-bit. I don't know much about 64-bit Windows, but I do know that machines with high RAM and fast processors typically get installed with 64-bit versions of Windows (x64 architecture can utilize more memory).

I've never seen or heard of this error message. Could you provide a list of currently running programs, system resource usage (RAM and processor percentages), etc? Maybe we can narrow down exactly what is dragging down what should be a very fast machine.

I have Windows 7 myself, and it is very fast (with less RAM and a slower processor than yours).

The only way I can drag it down is by running multiple virtual machines at a time (just running about 30 different applications to try and max it out barely used half my resources, haha). But those virtual machines are resource hogs (for obvious reasons).

I have been having a lot of blue screens on my laptop lately with kernel security check failure error. BlueScrenView software says it is caused by ntoskrnl.exe.

I am asking this question since I think I ran out of ideas - I have tried scanning windows files with sfc /scannow, Malwarebytes, also cleaned files and registry with CCleaner and updated drivers with Driver Reviver. What I could not do is scan my pc for viruses with Avira - everytime I have tried that, windows crashed.

Hi all,

I'm having this issue with Windows where, after using for a few minutes, my computer hangs. It would sometimes show the error "Microsoft Windows. This application is not responding." and when I try to Ctrl+Alt+Del, it would show the error "Failure to display security and shutdown options"

Before the few minutes, all is well, the pc runs smoothly. The time factor also varies. The hanging usually happens when I would close a program like after a video or game, but it could also happen when just idle.

Here are the things I've tried and results:
1) System restore to a previous date
- Problem still exists
2) System restore further back

Hi,
I got an error today when booting up my computer. Restarting and logging in allowed me to get in and log in, however it took abnormally long and there was a blank screen on my computer for roughly 30sec-1min (normally takes about 3 seconds).

I have attached the debug files and if anyone could please look over this for me it would be extremely appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Kingfield

Hi,

I have been using windows 8.1 for a while without any problems, but from a few days occasional kernel security check failure started becoming more and more frequent which is pretty annoying. After it crashes it restarts itself and when i login, it immediately crashes and restarts once again. If i login once more after that it takes some time to crash again.

I attached the zip from diagnostic tool, I would really appreciate some help regarding this .

Regards.

Install a different version of your wifi driver as it is the main cause of your crashes.
