Reporting an incorrect update

Q: Reporting an incorrect update

How do I tell MS that their optional update is wrong? My home made Windows 7 Home Premium machine upgraded from XP PRO was running great until I installed an optional upgrade - for ATI HD 2600 (installed on my PC) as listed on the Windows update site. Restarting the PC failed. A DOS screen indicted an addition to the Autoexec.bat that was applicable ONLY to the HD 2400 series. System Restore failed. Fortunately I had an Acronis Home image that returned my machine to a working shape.

Preferred Solution: Reporting an incorrect update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Reporting an incorrect update

No need to tell anyone anything. Set update to notify and you will install. When you get that wrong update, right click and set to hide. I have mine set to notify. I do not want someone else to decide what goes into my computer.

I had a Celeron board with 128MB PC2100 at 266mhz, running XP Pro. It always said it had 96MB RAM, I figured because of integrated video...I added 512MB RAM, and then it said it had 576MB. That didnt add up. The PC started crashing intermittently and then would not POST at all. I took it in and they said it was a bad mobo. I decided to get a new barebones with a Athlon XP 2000+ and it took PC2100 as well. I took out their 128MB of PC2100 (333fsb) and replaced it with the 512 and 128 sticks of PC2100 (266) that I had from before and it said, again, that it has a total of 576MB. What would be the reason that not all the RAM is reported? I can understand 32MB for video, but a 512 and a 128 should add up to 640, or at least 608, not 576, right? Am I missing something? Is RAM bad or something??
Thanks for any help!!

I have just fitted a Seagate 40Gb HD and new ASUS A7V266 MB. The MB BIOS correctly reports the HD size as 40Gb but W98SE only reports it as 25.7Gb. Seagate support says I must fit a PCI card with its own BIOS to enable W98 to use the full size of the HD. This seems almost unbelievable that such a new MB cannot pass on the correct info to the OS without extra hardware and tweaking, especially as its BIOS is reporting correctly . ASUS support have not replied to my queries. Has anyone out there any ideas without having to reformat the HD as I now have over 10Gb on it!!

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron 7500 laptop running XP Pro sp2. It had 1 stick of 128MB memory. I replaced it with two 256MB sticks (max allowable). The Bios sees the 512MB total. The "My Computer" properties also sees the correct total. The problem is that "System Information" only sees half (256MB Total Physical Memory). System Information will typically show "Total Physical Memory" = 256MB and "Available Physical Memory" = 298. The numbers aren't important ---- the point is that it shows more "Available Physical Memory" than it shows "Total Physical Memory". The system does use the memory correctly and functions well. I've swapped memory location with no change in memory reporting.

The other curious thing is that Belarc Advisor shows the 512MB total but shows slot 1 = 0, and slot 2 = 256MB. As stated above, swapping memory locations doesn't change anything. They are identical memory sticks.

Does anyone know why "System Information" is showing incorrect "Total Physical Memory"? Everything else seems to be working fine. I just don't know if anything else is affected that I'm not aware of.

Thanks for any inputs and taking time to read this.

I have found an issue on ProBook 650 G1 and ProBook 11 EE G1 that are providing incorrect battery information in/to WMI. I have two scripts (which both work on Dell laptops) to quesy for the designed capacity of the battery and the current full charged capacity which I've used with Dell laptops and SCCM to report when the batteries beging to fail or their full capacity falls under 30% of the design capacity.  The powershell scripts: 1. (Get-WmiObject -Class "BatteryStaticData" -Namespace "ROOT\WMI").DesignedCapacity 2. (Get-WmiObject -Class "BatteryFullChargedCapacity" -Namespace "ROOT\WMI").FullChargedCapacity On the models I mentioned both return the exact same value which turns out to be the full charged capacity.  Both were returning a value of under 4000 milliwatts and the design capacity is north of 56000.  Running a powercfg battery report and looking at the tracker as the battery degrades shows the FullChargedCapacity and DesignedCapacity diminishing with the same values where only FullChargedCapacity should be. As I have no idea where else this could be posted or how to submit such a bug I'm curious is anyone else has noticed this and, ideally, how to access a proper design charge? Thank you.

I have Windows XP Pro on NTFS and both of my hard drives are reporting less free space than they should.

When I pull up the properties for the drive, it says 104 GB used, but when I pull up the properties for all the contents of the drive, it says 56 GB used. When I delete files from the drive, I do not gain any free space.

I've set my hidden files to be visible, I have purged my recycle bin, checked for spyware and viruses, run chkdsk and norton disk doctor. I am going to try removing Norton Antivirus to see if that helps.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

A:DriverToaster.exe is reporting that “The parameter is incorrect.”

Can you confirm the utility's name?
I have searched my system and do not see such a utility available.  When I checked the internet, it showed Toaster.exe as a notification component of WinAmp.
I would suggest you search your system for it and make note of the path to it and what the properties show as to who owns it.  If it is a current component on your system you may need an update.

I have a 3TB Seagate external hard drive which was fine, but now reports the wrong disk size. Disk management correctly reports the total size as around 3TB. I am new here and wasn't sure where I should post this as I can see it applying to multiple categories.

I have two NAS storage adapters, both are CiragoLink+NUS2000 Devices. Each unit accommodates 4 USB hard drives up to 2 terabytes per attached drive. On both devices I have attached Western Digital external USB hard drives ranging in size from 500GB's to 1.5TB's.

The issue I am having is; if I "Map a Network Drive" to create a shared directory on any of the drives attached to the NAS adapters, Windows reports both the total disk size and free space available incorrectly. e.g. all of the attached drives show up in Windows explorer as having 55MB's of 62MB's available, when in fact it should report several hundred gigs available out of around 1 terabyte.

So not sure if this is a Windows' issue, an issue with the NAS adapter or if it's user error. Just an FYI, I get the same results on any PC, Windows XP or 7 when trying to connect to any of the drives.

Because of this issue, Windows' thinks the drive(s) is almost full and will not let me copy data to them.

Can anyone help me understand what is going on here? Thanks for the help.

IE 11 (with the latest June 2016 patches) on Windows 7, Windows 10, and the latest Windows 10 Insider Build (14385) reports that it is IE 7, thus causing many websites to display incorrectly.
As evidence, using the site, http://useragentstring.com/, IE 11 is sending the following string:  "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; Trident/7.0; .NET4.0C; .NET4.0E; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; .NET CLR 3.0.30729; .NET CLR 3.5.30729;

A:MSE update reporting

Hello Art,

MSE will show itself up to date until it checks in to see if it's still up to date. Since you have MSE set to automatically download and update itself, it will still show as up to date when it reaches the check time since it updated itself. That's all.

In creating Windows images I have been applying Windows updates to Windows 10 and Windows Server 2016 mounted WIM files using the DISM /Add-Package command.  Applying the packages occurs without error, however once the updated WIM is deployed
checking on the status of an applied package is not consistent between MBSA and the PowerShell command get-hotfix.  MBSA will report that the package is not installed while the PowerShell get-hotfix command will show that the package is installed.
Additionally the package will show as installed by checking Add/Remove programs "View installed updates".  So I believe the issue is a deficiency in MBSA.

MBSA is being run offline using the wsusscn2.cab file and the command:  mbsacli.exe /nd /catalog wsusscn2.cab

Is this a known issue?  Any workarounds or plans to update MBSA to support updates applied through DISM?

I've got two problems, one is about Windows Update, and one is about random error reporting windows. It's just, a few days ago when I went to bad at about 4:30 am, it kept telling me that it automatically downloaded the updates without my permission and if I wanted to "Postpone" or Restart. Of course I just kept clicking Postpone, but eventually I saw a little selectable field asking me how long I want it to wait for it to ask me again, so I clicked for it remind me in four hours. But then I decided to go to bed, but when I clicked Shut Down when I clicked the little arrow next to it (so it doesn't install updates), I expected it not to try and update, but you know what happens next. I went to bed as normal, but for some reason the computer didn't turn off. I went to take a look, and what was it doing that I specificly told it not to do? It was installing updates. So I wait it out, then ages later, I get up again to check, and it was on my desktop again whilst I was expecting it to turn off! So my big problem here is Windows Updates, how do I shut this mofo up?

Second little problem is crash error reporting, I don't know why it keeps showing up. When I let my computer just start up all the problems, I get an added window from crash error reporting saying something about Task Manager when I never even touched it. I use Windows 8.1 Home. I tried the free upgrade to 10 but didn't like it and reverted back to 8.1. Everything is ok. now, except for the one small detail. Whenever I download "important" updates using Windows Update it shows its progress bar with a message: "Your Windows 10 is being downloaded.", or something like that (I use a Polish version). I mean, I download regular updates for 8.1, not Windows 10. It's a small thing; I would consider editing this string manually, but I don't know where it's stored. Hello doctinhonline and welcome to Seven Forums.

First, it would help if you could provide your system specs. At the top of any Forum page click on "User CP". Then click on "Edit System Spec" in the left column. Fill in the blanks. A free tool called Speccy can give you all the information.

If I understand your problem correctly, you reinstalled Windows 7 Pro x64 on your laptop. The keyboard worked fine and displayed all characters as it should. But when you ran Windows Update automatically, the keyboard began displaying the wrong characters.
Here are two tutorials covering a clean install and a repair install. Go over the steps just to make sure you didn't leave something out.

Clean Install Windows 7

Repair Install

If you did all of the steps correctly, then it's most likely a Windows Update that's causing the problem. I know it will be very inconvenient, but I'd reinstall Windows 7 one more time just to make sure you have a good install. (Or you could take a chance and uninstall all Windows Updates. Problem with this is you may not be able to uninstall some updates. That's why I recommend reinstalling Windows 7 one more time.)

Windows Update - Uninstall an Update

You would now have to manually install Windows Updates. You'll need to change the Windows Update settings to "Never Check For Updates (Not Recommended)".

It is not a good idea to update a BIOS using a Windows updater. These work *most* of the time, but fail far more than the DOS versions do.

Do you have a floppy disk drive in that PC?

If you still want to use the Windows updater anyway, delete that ROM file and download it again. You could have had a bad download.

Well, I am done with classes and understand a lot, like what they didn't teach me enough.

I am good at form building and database/xml manipulation, but little (null) was done in the way of showing us how to report back from the database (DBMS) other than Access.

In my mind, this is a duty of my application. I understand that I may need to create a separate module, or element of code to handle the call when reports are desired. I also believe I should be able to reference many libraries to make it happen.

From my current standpoint, I don't care how hard the code is, so long as it fits with .Net4.0 and can be used with current jet (12.0 I think) ties to VB.Net. Also, A free solution would be nice.

Currently I am able to produce desired results using a Free-RTF textbox and ASP.Net commanding Access or SQL server. However, now I am looking at Desktop control issues. When I crack a RTF file generated for desktop use, IC way different structure than the html type markups ic when extracting the encoding my Free-RTB stick to my online DB.

If I can write to rtf and see the same results I get with FreeRTF for ASP, I can pull it off through an interlope. Any suggestions? (Do I have to again, interlope by: (Cast (RTF(Web), RTF(System))

Any help, even outside my tract of thought, is enormously encouraged.

A:VB.Net Reporting

To elaborate,

The code generated from Free-RTB is in a HTMl format with styles, but only allowed through header directive as this is normally scene as active code and wrongly databased.

However, to properly write formatting to a system stored RTF, I believe I may have to parse the style to an ms.notepad encoded format. True o False?

I use AVG anti-virus and find it very effective. However, whenever I run it it invariably reports a "change" on kernel32dll and shell32dll. Anyone know what this means? What it signifies?

A:Avg Reporting

I noticed that my partition table MBR (motherboard boot record), boot sector, kernel32.dll, shell32.dll, ntoskrnl.exe all say changed. It is normal that AVG shows that files, the MBR or Boot record to have changed. These are done during normal maintainance, when you or windows updates files or have had to correct errors on the drive. The only time that you should worry is if they also show as infected. To get AVG to quit showing them as changed, open the AVG Test Center, click the F3 key on your keyboard and tell it to accept the changes. If it still shows something as changed after this.. delete the file named AVG7QT.DAT in C:\ and AVG will rebuild it the next time it is run.

yea, im not sure if you know how to find out ISP(internet service provider) from an IP, but find a good "who is" online (eg: whatismyipaddress.net click on who is) and than see who ISP is... you could also trace route and than click on what "what country" and than look for an ISP(rogers, telus, comcast, shaw... etc) and than email that isp explaining problem and give them IP to track them down. it might be hard for them to figure it out if they are on dial-up(IP changing everytime you login) anyways, i hope that helped.

AVG is picking up on an 'infected' file, but not sure if its accurate.

MRT.exe in sys32 folder is being reported as infected.

I think this is Microsoft Removal Tool and suspect that AVG is picking up on the software database?

I tried to tell it to ignore and let it passed, but it refuses

A:AVG Reporting MRT Threat

Yeah, that happens regularly. Remove it, Microsoft releases a new version with each update, so not a problem and once they get signatures updates, it should not report it anymore, for some time.

I thought this may be helpful, it contains info on reporting unsolicited mail not only from hotmail but others as well. With so much Spam coming in I feel I have to have a go somewhere, I've tried mailwasher and a few others but I seem sometimes to 'not quite get it right' and lose genuine mail at times, it's so much messing about changeing mail addresses and my blocked senders list is full.
Reporting Unwanted, Abusive, or Fraudulent E-mail

To report spam you will need to forward it with full headers.
>>> To report junk mail coming from an MSN Hotmail account

Not all junk mail you receive from an @hotmail.com address is from a legitimate Hotmail account. For Hotmail to assist you, please identify the true origin of the e-mail as follows:
1. On the "Options" page, click "Mail Display Settings" under "Additional Options".
2. Under "Message Headers", click "Full", and then click "OK".
3. Search for the following text in the message header: "X-originating-IP".

An example looks like this:

"Sat 02 June 2001 13:47:27 PST
X-Originating IP: [123.4.567.89] From: "Scarlett O' Hara"
[email protected]"

If you find an X-originating-IP line in the message header, forward a complete copy of the message, including the full message headers to [email protected].

I'm a bit confused why it's saying this. All the RAM is PC6400 and it's compatible with my machine.

I see this when I go to System properties (right-click Computer and properties). Beside the Installed Memory (RAM) label, it says 4.00 GB (3.00 GB usable).

Very strange. Hopefully it's just a tiny mistake?

A:x64 Win7 is reporting only 3GB out of 4GB RAM

What does it say in your Resource Monitor > Memory tab (the color picture). How large is the leftmost (gray) area.

Richard told me I should report Malware that has hijacked my two computers. The files are-Hkey_UsersS-1-5-21-1417001333-412668190.There are two instances of this file in the registry of my desktop and notebook computers that will not let me delete them. Here is a copy of my first post to let you know what is going on-
Infected files in registry wont remove or delete.

Ive found a file on two computers I own
that have been Hijacked by unknown source.
Whatever or whom ever owns this file its the same on both computers , that did at one time share DSL.
I am not allowed to delete these files and whatever they are they run everything on both computers. My notebook and desktop have the same S-1-5-21 and so on.I don't know what it is or where they came from. All I know is that these files are unremoveable. And errors pop all over when I click delete.
How do I remove files that stop you from deleting them? Please help because what has happened now is when I do a reinstall they are still on both computers.
I can't use my notebook with my two wire connection , its not allowed by whatever is on the computers ,so I unplug one to use the other. Yes, I even have to use my notebook with my modem or I don't get to use it at all. This is getting to be a big problem.
Ive found out also that both computers cut off when I try to delete anything. All windows services get disabled if I manage to get the computers in safemode. And security software is stopped from running ... Read more

Does anyone know how to disable the MS error reporting popup. I get it whenever I disable my Comodo firewall when I'm playing a game. The popup is a MS feature, not Comodo.

This kind of doesn't fall under the security forum, but it might. I'm being bothered by someone on AIM who seems to have figured out a way to bump me off AIM and sometimes keep me off line for up to 15 min. I know his real street address and everything, if that helps. I tried going to www.aol.com to find a way to report him, but i can't seem to find the right link.

can someone help me go about reporting this guy to even some higher authorities than AOL? Is this type of crime punishable under law? If so, how can I get this punk away from me??
