Preferred Solution: one email looks opened when i ahve not opened it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: one email looks opened when i ahve not opened it?

It sounds like you are using IMAP, which syncs the emails with the server, not the devices. So when one device shows up and is read there, the other will then show the same thing (being read). This is normal.

Hello. I opened a bad email yesterday and received this message:

FILE QUARANTINED
----------------

Microsoft Antigen for Exchange removed a file since it was found to be infected.
File name: "Body of Message"
Virus name: "HTML/Phishbank.AJJ"

I looked it up on the net and saw it was a trojan. I'm uncertain if my computer is infected with anything or not. I never saw a Quaranteen message in my email before so it's a bit scary. Later my mouse acted funny. I'm using AOL where my mail center is always at the top of the screen. The mouse (the little white arrow that you move with the mouse) refused to go to the top of the screen where the mail is and where the browser address bar is located. It acted as if it hit an invisible brick wall and could go no higher. Nor could it reach the very bottom of the screen, where it says START, etc. There was a brick wall down there, too. Nothing like this has ever happened before.

Hi,

I would like to send an email that has a page automatically open with out the need to click a link.

IOW if a user receives an email open the email and the message automatically opens out whether it is a pdf or jpg.

Any thoughts?

A:How to get document to pop out as soon as an email is opened

I see this as a security risk, or possibly an attempt to bypass security measures by the email client or web mail... I'll let a mod decide, with that though.

But if I ever get an email that attempts to take control, it will probably be blocked and reported....

I have attached my resume (created in Microsoft Works Word Processor and stored in my Documents folder) to emails. Unfortunately after sending the emails with attachments, the receive of the emails cannot open the attached file.

A:email attachments cannot be opened

You don't mention which particular Email service he is using, but the three MS ones are broadly the same. Somewhere in the menu bar is a "security" option. For example, in Windows mail, this is under options where a security tab can be seen. If the receiver clicks this , he will find some more options regarding the action to take with attachments.

Hi all my friend had windows 7 64bit. Well she said she opened an email with a bug in it. I tried running Malware Bytes and Anti spyware and nothing appears at all on either. So because nothing is showing up on either spyware makes me think this bug is suppressing or hiding in the background. The reason I think that is because that happened to me when I had a Trojan before.

Is there anything we can run to make sure this thing is dealt with?

Thanks

Hi
Can anyone answer a couple of questions for me?
1, Whenever I access email programs such as outlook express or microsoft outlook it freezes my pc, I can access my ntl email from their website, this seems to work.............

2, My friend couldn't get access to his msn messenger, everytime he tried to log in it didnt recognise his password or sign in details, so after much looking on the net I came up with this solution,
MESSENGER SIGN IN FIX

1)Go to start at the bottom of the screen 2)Go to run 3)When a text box appears, type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll 4)Finally, hit OK.

This worked and he was able to sign in etc, but does anyone know what the command is or what it did, will it cause any harm?
Any advise gratefully received.

A:Pc freeze problem when email opened?!?

To answer the last part of your question about regsvr32.

regsvr32 sets the registry information for the dll files, or ocx files, or whatever files need to be setup in the registry. Sometimes something in the registry gets messed up and simply re-registering the file (maybe older version overwrote new one and so on) will correct the problem.

Have you reinstalled IE? This will reinstall the files for both outlook express and outlook (which requires OE to be installed!) This may fix your problem. Also with MSN messenger tied into everything, try installing the newest version of that also.

Hi - Sorry to make my first post a <HELP> one, but I guess that's common here.

As the heading implies, my mother opened the spoofed email from DHL and then opened the attachment. Her computer of course went haywire and she got errors and such, so she rebooted and now it shows:

nxqm.uyo

Specified Module Could Not Be Found.

So, I came over to help. I'm presently running her antivirus software. It is almost complete, and has quarantined a file, but then it looks like the virus did something and the McAffee screen changed and looks "weird" and things aren't making sense. $hit.

I plan on downloading combofix and then reporting back here. I'd sure appreciate any help!!!

Thanks!

Our Windows 98 Outlook email is frozen. When we try to open it, a message says "the MAPI spooler could not be opened. Close and restart all mail-enabled applications."

We've closed down several times. If we click on the outlook icon before the machine has completed booted, the message says "MAPI spooler cannot open this item. It has already started transmitting message."

We have no idea how to delete the item that may be clogging the spooler.

We're real novices...true! Help greatly appreciated.

A:Spooler can't be opened...email frozen

Sounds like a message in your outbox is corrupt.

If you are at home and NOT on an exchange server, keep Outlook closed and go to the Mail item in the control panel. You should see your list of accounts. Click on each one and hit Properties and uncheck the box that says something about send/receive on this account always. If you know which account the message was sent from, "disable" only that account. This keeps Outlook from immediately sending and receiving, which will allow you the chance to delete the message. Alternatively, it may be an incoming message. In this case, you may need to contact your ISP's mail administrator, or if you have web-based email access, go there and delete the message.

Hello,
I was delighted to receive an email this morning from my dear niece, which had a link (www.wagnershredder.at/blankbath/markmoreSL/). I clicked on it without thinking twice, and it was a bad site. Well, not really sure what the site was, because I hit control-alt-delete too quick to know. When I pulled mozilla back up it still had the same site on, which I saw long enough to see a message saying I've been infected and need to try some sort of product to remove it, but I got out just as quickly. I proceeded to run a battery of antivirus and such software (Auslogics, CCleaner, Glary Utilities, Malwarebytes, Spyware Blaster, SuperAntiSpyware Free, Spybot, gmer, and Hijack This. The scans revealed very little Super Anti showed tracking cookies, Glary had Infected Registry Cleaner (159 problems) and Temp File Cleaner (8.87 problem), and that was about it. I can tell my computer is running slower, and if I'm typing an email on my yahoo, every now and then I can type and it takes a minute for the words to show up. This has happened in a previous infection. Other than than I have no problems, but I'm trying to make sure I'm not missing anything. I'm grateful for whatever you may be able to lend.

I have used for over 10 years now MSGTAG free edition on my  workhorse OE Email account with not a single problem and I have almost always received a message saying that the recipient has opened my mail from a large variety of  highly official and business sources to friends.

With my Gmail account I have just  discovered Bananatag for Google Chrome as a simple extension
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Internet-Applications-Addons/Chrome-Extensions/Bananatag-for-Gmail-Chrome-Extension.shtml

With a few simple adjustments to the settings, it works perfectly with no trouble whatsoever. Every new Email has the Bananatag marker and tracker checkbox included and a receipt message is received immediately the recipient opens the sent mail. Brilliant, it is  extremely user friendly and the support people can be contacted easily and are prompt in replying.

With the free version, 5 Emails per day only are allowed, but for myself and many more casual Email senders, that is more than adequate.

A:Win 8, opened spam email by mistake

It is unlikely that just opening a spam email would be able to infect your computer unless you clicked on a link or opened an attachment. The downside
is spam likely knows if you opened it and tells the spammer it has found a working email address to send more spam to. Best to never open an attachment
unless you have confirmed who sent it and what it contains. Attachments are a favorite way for criminals to infect your computer with some really nasty malware.

If I have Firefox Nightly x64 opened and click on a URL link contained in a Thunderbird email, I receive a message warning that states that FF is running and need to close before I can open the selected URL link. See attached image.

I don't really want another FF session opened. What I would like is for the URL link I clicked on the email to open in a new tab (or on existing tab for all that matters).

Is that possible? Is there a setting I can toggle?

Thanks.

A:If FF is opened, Email links will not open. Any fix?

Ensure your mail program is set as default. Open FF then use Task Manager to close it. Now try a link.

Hello,

We had an email that was sent to us that had a link to it.  the email looked suspicious and the link was accidently clicked on.

I have scanned with a whole variety of software (malware, rootkit scans, rootkit killers, virus) almost all come up clean.  But, I ran roguekiller and it found hj.name that may be a virus.  Also, we have disconnected it from our home network but when I was doing Housecall Virus scan it was connected to the internet and I received a message on another computer of ours that a TCP/IP port attack was occurring.  ESET identified it as being possibly malicious and I blocked it.

I just want to make sure the computer is clean before we go ahead and connect it again.

I recieved an email for "USPS" saying that I had to download something to take into the USPS store to retrieve my parcel. I tried to download it and found out that it was abviously malicious. The only thing I noticed at first was that my Free AVG ani-virus would freaquently throughout the day say it was protecting me from high severity things. This got really annoying so I downloaded free Malwarebytes and ran that. It got rid of a bunch of stuff but I keep getting more. The problems that I now have are that my excel 2013 will not retrieve data from the web that it had no problems with before. I just get an error that says this page cannot be displayed. I also have a online trading account with think or swim that now says thinkorswim couldn't connect to the internet and I cant log into my account. I tried adding these programs to my windows firewall acceptance list but to no avail and even turned the firewall off momentarily and tried again but not change. If i go into my firewall advanced settings and try to click on inbound or outbound rules i get an error that says "MMC has detected an error in a snap-in and will unload it. if I press unload the snap-in and continue running it get "FX:{b05566ac-fe9c-4368-be02-7a4cbb7cbe11}" The requested service provider could not be loaded or initialized. Exception type:System.Net.Sockets.SocketException. These are the only problems that I have cought so far.

I also just realized that when I go to computer, system properties, and click on windows update it takes at least a minute to load and then it shows a red shield icon with a "x" next to check for updates for your computer. When I click Check for updates it pops up a window saying Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer. Nothing changes when I restart and when I go to change settings it says it is set to automatically install updates with a green shield looking icon, with a check mark, next to it.

Okay, now periodically I'll get an email, (usually from my wife at work), and when it is in the inbox, I can see the beginning of the text message contained in the email, but if I open the email, there is no text visible. If I try and forwartd it or reply there is still no text present. If I leave it in the inbox and click on edit and click on marked unread, the text is back unless I open the email. I'm using Win 7 and Outlook 2007. About 8 years ago there was a problem like this and to cure it, we were told to replace the mllang.dll and the text was back, but that was windows 98 and Office 2000. Any suggestions???

Additionally, my wife just told me that the hospital where she works uses Lotus notes for an email program, (in case that makes a difference).

Hello. I don't see any signs of active infection in these logs.
The files MBAM detected are mostly nirsoft tools used to recover passwords of various types. samside.exe is another password tool.

If you did not download these tools yourself, you should consider what data is at risk on this machine and change all passwords for any websites from a known clean machine.

We can run a couple other tools/scans to help ensure there's no infection on the machine.

First...
Download TDSSKiller.exe to your desktop
http://support.kaspersky.com/downloa...tdsskiller.exe
Execute TDSSKiller.exe by doubleclicking on it.
Press Start Scan
If Malicious objects are found, select Skip by changing the default Cure selection at the upper right
Once complete, a log will be produced at the root drive which is typically C:\
For example, C:\TDSSKiller.2.8.16.0_date_time_log.txt
Attach that log, please.

Next...Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
http://public.avast.com/~gmerek/aswMBR.exe

Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool. (Vista/Windows 7 users - right click to run as administrator)

Allow it to download the definitions from the internet.

Click Scan

* Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
* You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zip... Read more

Hi,
I hope this is the correct place to ask. I have spent the day editing a document which i stupidly just opened from an email attachment in my hotmail account and proceeded to edit. I diligently saved it throughout the day but did not use the save as function.

I have tried to open a similar document and choose save as to see where the document would have saved but this does not seem to work in Windows 7. I have tried looking in my 'temp' folder but this is empty.

Does anyone know how else I could retrieve this document? It is the only version i have...i really ought to have looked after it better!

Thank you in advance,

Sandra

No problem this is an easy one.

Go to search type in back up and restore Pick a date prior to your problem. And then like magic, everything is back the way it was when life was good. This will affect all your personal documents, but not system settings.

but first try this one. Go to search pick a phrase that is in your document and it should appear.

It all began with opening up an email from IRS.GOV and I downloaded a attachment because I thought it was important. After I did that my whole screen went black. I couldn't see any icons on my desktop been looking for help on my iTouch to help. So far what I did was run Malware and ran a scan found what was needed to go and quarantined it. After that I was really fustrustrated so I did a system restore back to basic settings, I only had the new tower for about 3 months. Tried using Mozilla Firefox and everytime I try to use it says, "Firefox has crashed and submitting a report, would you like to restart or quit Mozilla." Also, sometimes when I use Internet Explorer it takes me to other different sites in the world like to cafe.us or davis.aus. I tried using Hijackthis to get a log but I try to do a system scan and a log file, it says "For some reason your system denied write access to the Hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, Hijackthis may not be able to fix this. If this happens, you need to edit the file yourself....blah blah blah and the only option they give you is to click "OK." After the search is done there is a list but a window pops up saying, "Cannot find the C://Program Files (x86)/TrendMicro/HijackThis/hijackthis.log file.exe and giving three options Yes, No, or Cancel. There are many for POP accounts using OE, Eudora, Pegasus, etc., but not so many for web-based mail. And spam blockers can prevent the system from working properly.

All articles on email hacking start (or end) with something about common sense implying that you never open an email attachment from somebody you don’t know, but what if your job requires you to do just that?
As a translator, I receive constantly files to translate, usually from translation agencies, but sometimes also directly from final users. I do check the source code etc. but now and then I open an email/email attachment and funny things starts happening (Internet gets very sluggish, other emails disappear into thin air etc.).
How do you minimize this kind of problem? Have a PC only for emails (with its own Internet connection) is an (expensive) possibility. Maybe a Linux-based email reader? Unfortunately, I have only a vague idea of what Linux is.
Any suggestion appreciated. Alex

Please help

Peter

A:I cannot find a word document I opened as an email attachment

The file will be located in a folder somewhere in
C:\Users\(youraccount)\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet

"\AppData" is normally hidden
"\Temporary Internet Files" is normally a hidden protected Operating System
file

You'll have to remove the checkmark (if they're hidden) in Windows Explorer:
Organize - Folder & Search Options - View

Good luck in finding it, though.

The correct way is to save the attachment first, then open it
from the saved location, if you wish to edit it.

Hello again!

As I had an EXCELLENT experience with Gringo the last time around, I thought I'd stop back with my next project.

This is a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop running Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit. This is one of the main computers at a small business. I mention this because it includes some programs not normally found on personal computers I've worked on in the past. This includes Dyn Updated, Quickbooks, Intuit Data Backup, to name a few. I figure this might make it a bit more difficult when navigating around while we clean.

Here's what I know: Computer was infected about 4-5 days ago after the user received a malicious email from a sender claiming to be UPS or Fedex. The email attachment claimed to have information about a package that would be dropped off or picked up (the user isn't sure which), and you needed to open and print the attached "receipt" to receive your package.

This installed one of the fake "security" suites that has been removed earlier this morning. I feel like there is still a rootkit hanging on somewhere, and aswMBR seemed to detect something pertaining to Microsoft Security Essentials (the entry was highlighted in RED) RIGHT before Windows bluescreened with an IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL error or something of the sort. Logs are attached below, and I eagerly await your advice. Nothing will be done until I am instructed to do so.

Greetings and Welcome back to The Forums!!Here are the things to keep in mind while I am helping you to make things go easier and faster for both of usPlease do not run any tools unless instructed to do so.
We ask you to run different tools in a specific order to ensure the malware is completely removed from your machine, and running any additional tools may detect false positives, interfere with our tools, or cause unforeseen damage or system instability.Please do not attach logs or use code boxes, just copy and paste the text.
Due to the high volume of logs we receive it helps to receive everything in the same format, and code boxes make the logs very difficult to read. Also, attachments require us to download and open the reports when it is easier to just read the reports in your post.Please read every post completely before doing anything.
Pay special attention to the NOTE: lines, these entries identify an individual issue or important step in the cleanup process.Please provide feedback about your experience as we go.
A short statement describing how the computer is working helps us understand where to go next, for example: I am still getting redirected, the computer is running normally, etc. Please do not describe the computer as "the same", this requires the extra step of looking back at your previous post.NOTE: At the top of your post, click on the Watch Topic Button, select Immediate Notification, and cli... When I open Mozilla via local icons, it will read and load a specific profile. This allows me to use 3.6.13 (..\firefox.exe" -p "FF_3_6_13" -no-remote) and 4.0b9pre (..\firefox.exe" -p "Minefield64" -no-remote) without one interfering with the other. (4.0b9pre is set as default).

When the browser opens via an e-mail or web page hyperlink the profile file is ignored. I can live with it but sometimes I need an add-on I use and it is not running.

Is there a setting I can use to have Mozilla read the profile when opening it from a hyperlink?

A:Mozilla ignores profile when opened via email/web hyperlink

Check your profiles.ini in Notepad it should look somewhat like this:

[General]
StartWithLastProfile=1

[Profile0] <--- FF 3.6 profile
Name=New1112
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/j39iqzek.New1112
Default=1

[Profile1] <--- FF4 Profile
Name=FF4
IsRelative=1
Path=Profiles/dgu37doz.FF4
Default=1

Make sure the Default= is present in EACH Block and of course have it point to the profile Block you want to use for those email links

Yep, so basically someone opened an attachment at the office that looked like a PDF, but was actually a .exe

Immediately, emails with the same infected attachment started being sent from his email.

We've run avast/defender/malwarebytes, they picked up about 70~ things all together. However after deleting it all, the emails were still being sent.

The infected computer has been disconnected from the internet, it runs Windows 7.

What are the next steps I should take here?

Cheers.
