Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

Q: Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

We bought a Crucial M550 256GB disk and want to replace in a Toshiba Tecra Z50-Av1

We do not want to make any transfer of data or cloned.
We want to do a clean install with Windows 8.1
The BIOS recognizes the SSD

But when you install Windows 8.1 does not detect any disk connected to the unit and requested additional drivers. Windows not detect drive

But always the drive CRUCIAL is not reconized by the boot instalation of windows

The problem is similar with ubunto, kubuntu, .... the drive is detected with the BIOS but not for the OS.

Preferred Solution: Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Tecra Z50-A-11V: New SSD but Win 8.1 does not detect it

Hi

Did you solve this issue?
Could you install the Windows 8.1 system on this SSD drive?

I think the additional driver installation while setup procedure isn?t necessary since Win 8.1 should already contain the essential drivers.
From my point of few there could be an compatibility issue (maybe SSD firmware update would solve this).

How about the usage of other SSD drives? Do you have the same problem using other SSD drives from other manufactures?

Feedback would be appreciated.

Hello together,

i try to install a Samsung SSD 840 Pro to install in my Tecra S4. But when I try to install Windows 7 there is no SSD detected.

What can I do that Windows detect the SSD ?

With greetings
Golfbaer

A:Tecra S4 does not detect the SSD drive

Hi

You need to add the SATA/RAID driver.
Download this from here:
http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/raid-drv-20070719134547.zip

Now go to BIOS and on the 3rd page of the BIOS you could change the RAID settings to *1RAID-0.*
Possibly you will need to input password which is +1234+ then press +ENTER+
Now Boot from Windows 7 installation disk.
Select "Custom Installation.
Connect USB stick where the RAID driver files are placed

When it comes to the selection of the target drive (SSD drive isn?t visible yet) , select "Load Driver" and navigate to the USB stick where the folder with the drivers is placed. Now the installer for Win 7 lets you select an attached USB memory stick.

Confirm and after that a list of available devices (SSD drive) should be shown

I possess a tecra A10 complete with Windows Vista Business installed (and backed up to an image file using Easeus Todo backup

However I also have access to a Tecra M10 which came with no operating system, although the COA sticker (product key) is likewise for a windows Vista Business.

My question is: would my Windows Vista Business back up from the A10 work on the M10 (ie would it load onto the M10 hard drive and then work properly

If anyone can advise on this matter I would be appreciative please

Best wishes

A:Can I use Tecra A10 OS disk to install OS on Tecra M10?

At first I must say that Toshiba recovery image is created for each notebook model separately and it is 100% created to work on specific model. Why?
Every notebook model has different hardware platform and all drivers, tools and utilities for certain model are part of recovery image. These recovery images are also tested.

Generally speaking if both models have identical hardware platform (hardware parts) it can be used.

I can count that there 5 new drivers released since I updated the drivers last time but the Driver detect does not detect them.
Instead it detects just two drivers that are already installed and even if I do "install the again". The Driver detect still "detects" these two "new" drivers over and over again.

Hello! Registered because I really need help.

My Compaq laptop (Vista) was working just fine last night, connected to my home wireless network all right and all. Today morning my laptop couldn't detect my home wireless network at all, but it could still detect a bunch of other networks from the neighbours. My iPhone can detect my network with no problems, my desktop computer is wired up to the router, works fine too. It's a D-Link DIR-655. This has happened before but usually gets solved when I reboot (switching off and on) my router. I've tried that, tried restarting my computer too, no use. Haven't tried anything beyond that because I'm an idiot with computers.

Can anyone help me please? Thank you.

Huh ok nevermind, I reset my router, blabla, it's working again. I guess it's solved?

Yesterday, my computer randomly started screwing up. There is no longer any sound for ANYTHING, and I've tried all the solutions posted on the net which claims to fix "no active mixer device" error message which i am getting when i try to access volume control. At this time, the CD rom was working perfectly.

After hours, i just left it and went to sleep. And then the sound worked again the next morning. But suddenly, the computer restarts itself. When it comes back on, there is no longer sound.

Now, when i try to just reformat the computer, my CD-Rom will not even work properly, it isn't the actual fault of the CD, but it just won't detect ANYTHING. Not even things that worked the night before.

So now i can't refromat, can't get any sound, can't read any CDs, and randomly the computer restarts itself when the sound starts working, and shows blue screen sometimes just as the computer restarts itself so i can't even read what it says..... like less than a second of blue screen.

NOTE: NO changes were made to anything before these problems started taking place. Nod32 can't detect any viruses either.

A:Can't detect active mixer, (ie. no sound), can't detect CDs (ie, can't reformat)

Hello Maldini92

Turn off automatic rebooting
Right-click My Computer / Properties / Advanced / Startup and Recovery/Settings.
Under System Failure, uncheck the Automatically restart check box
You will then get a BSOD with error message which will help identify the problem. This one will stay

Please post the message such as
STOP 0x00000000A IRQL NOT LESS OR EQUAL
and any drivers named ( *****.sys)

Also
Right click My Computer / Properties / Hardware / Device Manager.
Look for "Yellow" errors

Dear forum
The above says it all really.

I see the two look similar, but one is smaller. Are these two models different in other ways please.
Ian

A:Difference between Tecra A10 and Tecra M10

Of course the both notebooks are different.
There are different Tecra A10 models and there are different Tecra M10 units.

For example:
Tecra *A10-13B* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2,26 GHz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset.

Tecra *A10-1D2* supports an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 2.80Ghz CPU and Intel GM45 chipset

You can find details about different discontinued notebook models here:
http://www.toshiba.eu/discontinued-products/
Then you can compare all the hardware parts.

My system was running Windows XP Professional, SP2 without a hitch up until about 2 months ago. Then it just stopped detecting the disks. I went into every screen and venue that I could find and everything that is suppose to be checked is checked. It does not recognize any disk in any drive. All of the drivers are current and the system shows no problems in any areas. As a matter of fact, it runs great. I just can't use any of my drives!

I was told that a recent Norton update had changed the settings and I should uninstall Norton and reinstall Windows XP. I was also told that a virus disables the auto detect feature. I have run several full system virus scans and have found one virus which was quarantined. But I can't find anyone who can help me to restore the autodetect feature.

Sure could use some help. Thanks.

I have just learned that a virus called the LSAS virus may be the problem. Norton Anti-virus does not have this virus listed. Is anyone familiar with this virus?

Please tell me how to get Windows XP Pro to auto-detect my drivers & utilities on my Dell computer like Linux has done during the installation-process?

So far, Windows XP Pro hasn't auto-detected any of those things (listed below), like Linux did almost immediately after I installed it on my Dell Laptop computer:

Ethernet controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
PCI Modem
Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
ALSO: Please tell me if I downloaded drivers from that Dell computer onto a CD would that CD have to be a "data CD" in order for my computer to detect the drivers I have burned on the disc? or would that CD have to be a non-Data CD (example: "Bootable CD"), which runs the programs and installs the drivers automatically after it's inserted in the CD-ROM/DVD-ROM)?

A:Solved: Linux distros auto-detect drivers > So, why won't WinXP Pro auto-detect my dr

Form a company to write a Windows clone, and include the drivers for all the hardware.

You just need a data CD to transport the drivers, or even a USB FLASH disk...

3 computer network. Linksys router daisychained with a switch, which is chained to a wireless access point.

Everything works fine apart from the one computer. It is not getting an IP from the router. It does not get the internet connection. It cannot share files with the other two computers. Basically acts as though it's not even plugged into the network.

So I go for the obvious and assume it's a wire or bad plug, and try hooking the rogue's end up to my laptop. Laptop works fine, gets net and can share files. I check the NIC and it's detected and working properly.

Must be a software issue. Windows XP Pro is not happy. It's a fresh install after a format. I've run the wizard with the 'connects through a residential gateway' as opposed to the 'connects directly to the internet'. I tried the latter but it says cannot complete setup.

The two lights on the card are blinking. The lights on the router corresponding to the rogue computer light up just the the others. I've tried moving it to the switch; no dice.

What could be the problem?

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.

Thanks for tips in advance.

A:Can I use SSD for Tecra A8

Generally speaking it should not be a big problem to use an SSD instead of an common HDD.
The notebook supports the SATA interface and you have to use an 2.5? SATA SSD drive.
I cannot recommend any specific brand but in some very rare cases it could be possible that you will need to update the SSD firmware providing by an SSD manufacturer?

Hi,

I'm trying one of this popular caddy's that allows me to put a second hard drive in the optical slot bay, I use a Sata to Sata adapter, so there is not really an adapter besides connecting properly:

[http://www.akasa.co.uk/update.php?tpl=product/product.detail.tpl&no=181&type=Enclosures&type_sub =2.5%20Enclosure&model=AK-OA2SSA-BK]

My problem is with Toshiba BIOS that is expecting a ODD device in that Sata port and cames out with a "CD-ROM error", disabling the Sata port.

I have a workaround, if I start the PC, after BIOS post with anything in ODD bay, after starting Windows, I insert the second HDD in the ODD bay, go to "Windows Device Manager" do a "Check for hardware changes" and voil?, the second HDD is working fine, to me this proves a BIOS limitation.

Is there any help, a Beta BIOS or something else, I have the last BIOS 3.00 for this machine installed.

A:Tecra M10-17U use second HDD in the ODD bay

Please check this thread:

It seems that Tecra M10 does not support an select bay which would allow you to use an 2nd HDD instead of ODD.

I am having issues with one of my computers where the motherboard SATA ports would detect/enable my SATA optical DVD writer, but for the life of me I can't get it to detect ANY SATA hard drives. This is why I bought the SY-PEX40039 PCI-Express SATA III controller card, so that I could hopefully bypass the issues my motherboard was having with SATA hard drives.... Unfortunately the controller card is doing the same thing. It detects and lets me use the optical drive no problem, but it refuses to detect my brand new Crucial M550 SSD, or my Toshiba 1GB HDD (which works fine in my other PC). I've gone through all the BIOS configurations that I could find. Tried running the ports in ACHI mode, IDE mode, no luck. Tried disable the on-chip SATA controller, and I've tried disabling the onboard PCI storage controller with no luck. The drives are good, the cables are good and have been swapped numerously. I am getting desperate (and honestly a little crazed) after trying to resolve this myself the past few days. The IDE drives work, and the USB ports all work. I have a Abit QuadGT AB9 motherboard and have updated all the drivers, and even flashed the newest BIOS (from 2008 since Abit is no longer around). Any help would be very much appreciated. Listed below is the specs and attached is the DXdiag report if that helps at all. Any help would be much appreciated.

Win 8 and 8.1 ran fine but with so many problems on Win 10, I eventually went for "scratch" install with the recovery Win 8 DVDs.

Hi buddy,

As far as I know the HDD is placed under the notebook cover and therefore a lot of parts must be removed like CD drive, keyboard, base assy, etc.

In my opinion it?s a tricky procedure and should only be done from a notebook technician because a lot of screws must be removed as well.

Is current HDD defective or why you want to exchange it?

I have Toshiba Tecra M7-132

I would like to improve everything possible

I want to increase the amount of RAM in my laptop but I do not know does my laptop can handle the memory faster than DDR2 533. I have Windows XP Tablet 32bit, I know it will handle only about 3.5 GB of RAM but it's better than 3 GB

I also want to change the hard drive. My current drive is HTS541080G9SA00 Hitachi, 80 GB, 5400 rpm SATA . Will it run with a bigger hard drive with speed 7200 rpm?

I installed all the most recent official drivers and BIOS

What else I can improve

A:How I can improve my Tecra M7?

Hello

According the specifications of Tecra M7-132 on Toshiba page it supports up to 4GB RAM but all 32bit OS support only up to 3.2GB RAM and for Windows XP 2GB is more than enough because it doesn?t need much RAM capacity.
The specification for RAM is DDR2-667.

Regarding the HDD: Larger HDDs are no problem because there is no capacity limit on SATA interface. That means you can also install 500GB HDD or larger. Only important is that you buy a 2.5? HDD with SATA interface.
Also 7200rpm shouldn?t be a problem but they creating more heat and need more battery power. Usually 5400rpm are enough and quieter.

When it finally boots with windows xp, there are horizontal lines across the screen with different shades of the colour. The cursor has a box of lines around it. I think it's a VGA card issue but am not sure; has anyone had similar problems? I have visited irisvista on the web, where there are some instructions on disassembly. I got to the connector to the LCD and repositioned it, and noticed that when I appllied pressure in this area I could get near normal display.... can anyone shed some light???

After upgrading to win7 and having sometimes a bleu screen when starting up the following happened.

After once more blue screen the laptop does not startup at all.

The only thing happens , is that I see the upstartscreen (in touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA) and icons at the underside of the screen indicating the drives. Then nothing happens any more, it doe not start up.

I can by entering F12 in a new startup procedure change to startup via CD rom, but this also has no effect.

Also it is not possible to enter the bios (esc + F1).

The keyboard is functioning because, after a while every touch result is a short " beep" .

I have removed the battery for a while and tried again with no result.

Can I put my laptop by the trash ore is there a possibility to bring it to live again

Thanks in advance, Jos

i have an old TECRA M10-139 with a Core 2 DUO T9400 @ 2.53GHz and i want to upgrade the CPU to a Core 2 DUO extreme QX9300.
I think the sockets are the same but i am not sure if the BIOS and the other specific hardware of the notebook can handle this processor.

Thanks in advance

Hi,

my Fan is running continously and Health Monitor reports Fan Problem. How do I get to the Fan? Where do I get a Service Manual?
I followed the instruction to blow air from outside- as expected this didn?t work
PS: ( if the only answer is that there is no Service Manual and to contact a Service Partner that will be my last Toshiba- from a pro model and its Prices I expect a little bit more)

thx for your answer

Oliver

Service manaual is not a public document and not free for the download.
I’m sorry if this will be your last Toshiba but don't be sure that another manufacturer will give you service manuals. No one will give you such document.

Notebooks have specific design and it is pretty easy to damage something. That’s the reason why the disassembling procedure should be done by authorized personal only. When you buy TV, auto or anything else nobody will give you service manuals.

Of course you can do with your notebook whatever you will but on your own risk.

Have you tried to remove the dust using compressed air.

Hi,

how can I boot from CD/DVD is the OS is not working an I can't access the Toshiba Hardware Setup tool in Windows?
If I press F1 I can only change Date and Time but no boot order.
Is there a special key to boot from CD/DVD?

Thanks

I am trying to rebuild a Tecra M3 Model PTM30A-1DD002 for a friend. I have installed Windows XP Professional but each time I try to install a service pack it seems to hang.

I have tried SP1 & SP3 and each time it starts off gets about a minute in and then just sits and does nothing. I left the machine on for a couple of hours and it just doesn't do anything. On SP1 it says it is "backing up files" and SP3 says "Checking Product Code".

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

A:Cannot install SP3 on a Tecra M3

As far as I know Tecra M3 is delivered with WXP SP2 Professional so for WXP installation use Microsoft WXP installations disc with already integrated SP2 or SP3.

Do you have original Toshiba installations disc?

Hello,

unfortunately the letter S got loose from the keyboard of my laptop. The plastic retainers came off with it and are still attached to the key pad. After some research on the internet and closer inspection i saw that the metal hooks for the plastic retainer seem twisted and therefore i was unable to reattach the key pad.
Any advice how to fix the problem? My fear is that i would have to exchange the whole keyboard?

Greetings,

Michael.

I wonder whether anyone might be able to answer a question for me.

I have a nice Tecra R10-11B and it has been very good for quite a few years. It runs Win XP and does everything asked of it without a problem.

What I would like to find out, though, is whether it is possible to fit a quicker CPU. I have a suspicion that the installed cpu may be permanently fixed and is not replaceable but I would like to find out.

I had played with the idea of replacing the Intel P9400 Core Duo with something a bit new, to allow perhaps installing Win 7 and more memory. There is 3gb of ram installed.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

A:CPU upgrade on Tecra R10

The CPU is socked and this means that the CPU is removable.
But the important fact is that notebook manufacturers don?t support CPU upgrade.
One of the main reasons is the BIOS which is mostly modified by notebook manufacturers.

But let?s start with some basic knowledge:
The CPU has to be supported by chipset and BIOS.

So let?s check what CPU would be supported by Mobile Intel GS45 Express Chipset which is part of the Tecra R10-11B
Here on this Intel Ark page you can find compatible CPUs
http://ark.intel.com/products/35505/Intel-82GS45-Graphics-and-Memory-Controller-Hub#@compatibility

But even if the chipset would support new CPU, some compatibility problems may appear because of the BIOS.
However, the Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs ( Montevina Penryn) were equipped in different R10 models, so probably other Intel Core 2 Duo CPUs would be supported.

By the way: the RAM could be upgraded up to 4GB RAM

Have read many posts and tried what was suggested. I pulled the 2 memory modules and cleaned the contacts with an eraser. I inserted only one of the modules at a time, switching slots etc. and then powered it up each time. Once with only 1 module installed, I got the WINDOWS XP startup screen (with the moving bar below) and then the Toshiba Splash screen appeared and then the screen went blank again. Seems like the hard drive starts up and then stops. The DVD drive seems to respond with a low clicking sound. I hear a couple chirps/clicks from the hardware but no beeps whatsoever.

I'm guessing bad RAM. I will try with some new RAM later when I get some.

Since I did get the machine to sort of startup once, am I safe to assume the BIOS and Motherboard are okay ?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,

I'm looking for how to set the asset tag information int the smbios of a toshiba tecra M11 laptop ?
I have found this post LINK:[http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=40167] but the tool assettag.Exe don't keep the tag after reboot.
Any idea please ?

A:Tecra M11 and asset Tag

I don?t know if you have European notebook model but here in Europe this tool is not available for customers and this stuff must be done by authorized service provider.

If you want you can try to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

As you can see in other thread last user has posted link to Toshiba US support page.
