I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi crossnet,

Can you please explain what you mean by "at the same time"? A description of the desired setup would be helpful.

Not a necessity...you can have both adapters in the computer at the same time...not unless, you're able to verify that they are conflicting in terms of resources that they're using.

Just a simple question. My apartment complex has installed wireless ethernet. My desktop computer has a 10/100 ethernet card installed, but I suppose I need to purchase a wireless card. What am I looking at as far as installation? Does it slide into a slot, or would somebody who's never opened his chassis before be better of getting pro help?

A:Wireless Ethernet Card

The ones I have seen advertized just plug into the ethernet jack on the back of the computer....I dont have one but my best guess is check with the manager of the apartment complex to ensure you get one that matches their frequency.

I have an IBM Aptiva 2139 SE-7 that I recently upgraded from Win98SE to Win XP. I also bought a wireless network card to install after the upgrade. For some reason, it appears that my PCI slots are not working. I tried the card in my other computer and it works fine, so I know it is not the card.

Anyone have an idea what the problem might be?

I am having some issues. I am new to windows 7 and was very hesistant to switch. Work bought me a new computer and i had no choice. Here is my setup:

At work, we have multiple laptops running on Verizon Wireless 4g Air Cards. Our printer in plugged into a Netgear VPN Firewall. When running XP, i was able to be connected to the 4g Air Card and have the ethernet cord plugged in allowing me to print and scan.

The 4g Air Card connects via a "lan adapter"

With Windows 7, I can no longer do this. When i am connect via the air card, i have no issues. as soon as I plug in the ethernet cord, i dont have any internet connection. It says it is connected, but I cannot visit any websites. As soon as I unplug the ethernet cord, everything works fine.

Does anyone know of a fix to this problem? I am sorry if there is already an answer for this somewhere else, but I couldn't find it in the forums.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.

A:Using a wireless air card and ethernet cord at the same time

You will need to edit your routing tables in windows to tell it to route internet traffic over the wimax.

You might also be able to set the metrics for the cards setting the wimax card to 1 and the others to 9999. This may work but it most likely will be flakey.

My dearest Andrea,

I want to make sure I am understanding all of this correctly:

- Both your ethernet connection and wireless connection suffer from the problems you described?
- Are you connected to a router at any time?
- Do you have any firewall software and if so what is it?

I have read/searched through most of the posts on this and various other sites and can't seem to find help with my problem. So hopefully someone will be able to help.

This morning when I woke up my computer worked properly. I then went to work, and when I turned it on I got the "blue screen of death." (I apologize for not posting the exact wording, but I did not think I would need it). I restarted the computer per the instructions, and it booted up. The computer, however, failed to connect to the wireless network. I noticed that the network icon was not in the taskbar. I then went to device manager and my integrated wireless adapter (Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG) had a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. I clicked on properties and under the 'general' tab the device status read:

This device cannot start (Code 10)
Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device

I then unistalled the controller and attempted to reinstall via the 'add hardware' program. I then received the message:

A problem occurred during hardware installation. Your device may not function properly

I then, believing it was a driver issue, downloaded the latest drivers from the intel website for my device on another computer. I uninstalled the controller again, and tried to install with the new drivers via a thumb drive. I received the same error message and the controller had the yellow triangle. When I clicked on properties this time I received the fol... Read more

A:Integrated Wireless Controller/PC Card Adapter/Ethernet port stopped working

Sounds like your motherboard is rapidly dying.

If the ethernet controller (or adapter) does not show under Network Adapters and is not in Other or Unknown devices with a warning or error message check in the BIOS (Setup) to see if it somehow got disabled. If it is already enabled, or doesn't show there, see my first paragraph.

When the ethernet controller is defective it can prevent other integrated and/or PCMCIA networking cards from working. When this happens sometimes a USB adapter will work.

Our internet service provider updated our internet speed from 100mbps to 1000mbps for no extra cost. We had a Netgear n150 wireless router but it wouldn't support the 1000mbps speed. We were told we needed to upgrade to a r6300 netgear router which is capable of 1000mbps. Now were are told we need to install an ethernet PCI network card or a network adapter. I am told we have to have a 2.0 port for the network adapter to work. It would be cheaper for us to install the internal Ethernet PCI Card, my problem is I don't know which one to buy. I know we need one that is rated 1000mbps, are these universal or will we have to buy one that fits each brand of computer?

So a couples of days ago my computer lost connection a few times, but it got back up running without any problems, yesterday however I had huge problems browsing trough the internet and had problems connecting to pages several times, but downloading worked just fine, but today I'm not able to do anything, it keeps disconnecting and reconnecting, but when its connected the connection is so bad that I can't access a single site.
I know it must be something wrong with my computer, because I've tested two different cables in two different ports, and I know one of the cables must work since I have no problems connecting to the internet on my Xbox 360, and all the other computers in the house have no internet problems what so ever, including the wireless connection on my laptop, and I also run into the same connection problem even in safe mode.
I noticed that the light on my ethernet port is solid orange, but usually it is green, and I've tried to do a virus scan to check if that might be the problem, but I doubt it since I haven't accessed any pages I don't usually visit in a while and it didn't find any viruses.
I have had some problems with the ethernet port before, but nothing that was permanent, I have experienced that my computer has had connection problems while everyone else in the house have had no problems, but after waiting a bit it suddenly reconnects and has worked just fine for many many months, and I've only experienced this pr... I want to make this wireless since I bought a new macbook and was wondering if this product would do it? http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B006PYGWG6

I don't know much about it but I was concerned because the Router Mode says 'cable connection only' and I'm not sure the connection is cable (is it ADSL?). Will I need anything else like a modem?

Any advice?

I just got off the phone with AT&T Tech Support guy ( i didn't say geek ) and he ( Kamlish ) took over my computer and checked out all the parameters and says, " I tink it might be your Interface Card" or perhaps CAD,

The problem is that I am connected to the internet at all times at 100Mbps yet pages will start to open then they stall/ freeze and I have to hit the refresh button or the back or forward icons to get it moving, which usually works. Other times it works just fine and I zip around without any problems and then the problem comes back. Is there any way that I can check to see if it is the network card which Kamlish spoke of or a diagnostic test to perform to locate the exact problem? The yellow ethernet wire connects to the back of my computer is soldered in so it can't be replaced if it is the culprit... Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Boss says can't access internet from conference room. I take a pc that's lying around, plug it into the UTP cable lying in the conference room to see for myself, but before I get very far in any experimenting, I was told an Ethernet card and a Remote Access card are NOT the same, tho' "they both do the same thing". How would I have known that: just by looking at it? What's the difference - I mean do they look totally different? Should I be embarrassed? Would it have mattered? I was just trying to access the net from that PC - and not doing well at that. I needed to confirm that this week-old message was still valid, that the switch port for that cable had not been taken over by another client. It's very likely the switch port WAS taken over by another client, but had it not: could I have accessed the net via a Remote Access card as opposed to an ethernet card? Am I an idiot?

A:Ethernet card vs Remote Access card

I have no idea what they are talking about, unless by RAS (remote access services) card they mean modem. Certainly a modem is different from a NIC (network interface card).

If you are trying to physically connect to your Ethernet network, via a CAT5 ethernet cable, you need a NIC.

Now, to get to the Internet, you may need to do some configuring - that all depends on how your network is set up.

Here's something that is causing massive loss of hair.....

My PC is connected to my router with a wireless card. I also connect my PS2 to my PC using an ethernet connection (the ps2 is "modified" and I use this connection to play music and video thru the ps2 to the TV).

Everything works fine with one exception. It seems like the wireless is not getting a DNS. To obtain one, I have to disable the ethernet card, connect to my AP, then enable the card. If I lose my connect with the AP (which happens sometimes, it's on the other side of the house and the signal is a little weak), then when it reconnects I have to do the whole disable/enable thing.

It's not a huge deal, but I do like my stuff to work properly and usually things like this are not problem for me, but this one really has me wondering. Anyone have any ideas?

Here's my ipconfig /all if that helps. What's odd is the ipconfig is *exactly* the same when I can connect and when I can't. So maybe it's not a DNS issue, but something else. But I am unable to connect to any web sites until I disable and re-enable the ethernet card.

I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 4 port wireless broadband router with 2 x wireless laptops that can see each other and share files fine. I also have a PC which is hardwired to the router. All 3 machines have an IP address from the range I configured and all 3 machines can access the internet. The problem I'm having is that my hardwired PC cannot see the workgroup I have set up so therefore it can't see the 2 wireless laptops. The 2 wireless laptops can see the hardwired PC but cannot connect to it to view the shared folders.

I have switched all firewalls off, changed lots of config in the router, reset it to default, rebuilt my hardwired PC, pulled out some hair, changed network settings all over the place but just cannot get the hardwired PC to see the workgroup.

Any suggestions anyone ! !

A:! ! ! ! ! Ethernet Can't See Wireless ! ! ! ! !

Well, as long as all three are getting DHCP addresses from the same network, then the router isn't to blame, so, get it configured and leave it alone.

You say you've setup a workgroup for the laptops. That desktop machine also needs to be a part of that same workgroup. Then, you need to have the same username and password combination on the three machines, and then the desktop should be able to share files with the laptops.

And you definitely want the firewalls disabled until you get things working.

A:Ethernet to Wireless, is this possible?

When we open a web browser we have to enter a username and password to be able to go online.Click to expand...

That probably means that they want to restrict usage to one computer per connection and do not want wireless networks set up. So, please check with the IT department before doing anything, as it's not very hard for them to detect violations.

On the assumption that you will not attempt this unless it falls within the rules, you can use a Wireless Access Point (WAP). Use encryption, preferably WPA2-PSK, AES, but at least WPA-PSK, TKIP. Use a passphrase that cannot be guessed and does not include dictionary words.

Is there such a thing as a 5 Ghz Ethernet card, or is just 5 Ghz wireless?

A:Ethernet vs. wireless

No - 2.4/5 GHZ refer to the wireless frequency.

Ethernet comes in two speeds mostly - older 100 Mb/s (100 megabits) or more modern 1000 Mb/s (1 Gigabit). Of course, these are usually much faster than internet speeds even for slower 100 Mb/s unless you have amazingly fast broadband.

Over the last couple of years we have been seeing a lot of problems with the above adapters, mainly concerning WPA and WPA2 encryption and mainly on windows Vista.
We have seen just a couple of issues on other windows operating system, windows XP and windows 7.

Windows XP:- A driver update has resolved the issue
Windows 7 :- No conclusive results for a fix

The wireless adapter gets an IP configuration, and shows as connected, but communication is non-existent or sporadic.

Log into the Router and disable the wireless security and see if you are now able to connect to the internet and surf OK.
Please post back a reply here, and let us know if that works or does not work.
If you post back the make and exact model of the router - we can advise how to disable the wireless security

Here are a number of possible solutions

--- 1) In Device Manager right click on the wireless adapter and "update driver."

--- 2) Download and install the latest wireless driver from your laptop manufacturer's web site support section,

If you post a reply here with the Make and EXACT model of your PC, along with the windows version you are running. we will see if we can find a link to the driver and will post a reply with the link here.

Hi

My W8 PC is connected to the Wireless Router by Ethernet Cable, the PC also
has Wireless connectivity; is it possible to connect to the Router with both at t
he same time and if I do will that improve internet speed?

Thanks

Daniel

A:Ethernet and Wireless

Your internet speed is determined by your provider and the package you have, it is irrelevant how fast your connection to router is as long as it is at least a little faster than speed to the provider. So you can not change the internet speed above what provider gives you.

should I enable the wireless when I want to use the ethernet, my wireless works fine, but when I try to connect with ethernet, either no connection or connection drops after a short time, It is a dell desktop with windows xp,with netgear switch, and comcast modem, with mac airport, I need to get my ethernet high speed working that I pay for. PLEASE someone help

A:ethernet and wireless together

If I am going to use ethernet for an extended time I remove an external wireless adapter or switch an integrated wireless off. But that's to extend the life of the unused component and to save the battery if on battery. If you are using a PCI wireless card with the desktop then disabling it is probably the best you can do. But that is not going to impact your ethernet usage, so it is really your choice.

Please show the following for when you have an ethernet connection and for when it has dropped ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Hi everyone

I dont really know whether this is really relevent, but I was just wondering. If I have both ethernet cable and wireless on one computer as 2 networks. Can I join up both of them to increase my internet speed or somthing. I tested both of them seperately and the ethernet cable was much faster than the wireless. My router is next to my computer. Can I have some tips. I will be putting some screenshots later.

Thanks in advance

This is, perhaps, an extremely silly question, easy to answer as the Techguy says! I have been using a desktop with Ethernet LAN (Landline) for years. Now, I have a Dell Studio 15 Laptop with Wireless output signal. My question is, How do I connect the two, so that I can use the Laptop too through my land-line broadband connection? Do I use just a wireless router in between? Any type of Wireless Router, or, any specific type? Do I need to change anything in my desktop LAN setup?

does this make sense?

is this possible?

A little confusion here - When I log onto my Verizon router page (that 198.xxx thing), I show many menus but the following 2 have me a little confused. One says "network connection" type is: Ethernet - I do have a yellow cable coming out of my Actiontec router to the pc so I get that. Another menu says "wireless settings" and this says "wireless" which I have set to WPA and the mode is 802.11g "only". Is this system wireless or ethernet or both? I would like to do the pc to tv connection for netflix movies at some point.. Am I all set with this configuration? (knowing I have to buy a box of some sort, Roku or Apple or something) and if I do have a wireless connection, can I connect the two without cables running from one to another? Hope that is all clear. Thanks in advance.

A:Ethernet or wireless?

Is this system wireless or ethernet or bothClick to expand...

both

you have a wireless router - and so you can connect to the router with a cable as you currenty are doing and other devices PCs etc or your PC can also connect with wireless
I would like to do the pc to tv connection for netflix movies at some point..Click to expand...

someone else will need to answer the netflix service

from what I can see on the website
http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks#faq1
you can watch via a PC

http://www.netflix.com/HowItWorks#faq1
Can I also watch instantly on my PC or Mac?

Yes. Simply press Play on any TV episode or movie to instantly watch it online on your Internet-connected PC or Mac.Click to expand...

so you can watch directly on your PC without any other device - and then if you have your PC video output connected to the TV you should be able to watch on TV via PC

whats the make and model of TV
- what outputs do you have on the PC video card ?
- what inputs do you have on the TV

if you have HDMI on both - then you should be able to use that - although for some copyright materials you will only be able to display on the TV and not two monitors

I'll try to be breif but specific. Windows 98SE(new machine to me). I have a cable modem that won't "see" my ethernet card.
The device mgr. lists a dialup, an sis900 fast e-net,and an sis900 AMD, which is the processor I have. The last one shows no drivers under properties, and when I try to load them from the master disc, I get an error message of 1F6. The tech guys at the cable co. think my card is bad, bet windows says it's "functioning properly"

Hello!

Thank you in advance for any help you might provide this poor, slow, computer idiot!

We're ready to upgrade to DSL, but discovered that we have no ethernet or networking card. We run a DELL desktop with Windows XP. I don't know why it wasn't included when we ordered it, but hey, now we gotta live with what we got.

I would like to know what to look for in an ethernet card and maybe a bit of advance warning on how difficult it will be to install.

Thanks again! I really appreciate it!

"outlook express" no longer will put "sent" messages in the "sent msgs." folder.
The internet "options" box is checked for sending sent msgs. to the "sent" folders, but that doesn't seem to work.!!!!!!
Please help.!!!!
