Ideapad 720s won't turn on without ac adapter/battery fully charged

Q: Ideapad 720s won't turn on without ac adapter/battery fully charged

Hi all,I have a couple of months old ideapad 720s running win10. Since a few days ago, I am not able to turn on my pc without the ac adapter plugged in. However, the second I turn on the computer, I can take the plug off an my pc works fine just on the battery. The battery is also charging ok, it just won't start the laptop. I don't recall doing any system/driver/software updates around the time this issue first occurred. Also, my energy managment seems to loose "memory" of my settings whenever I turn off the pc and unplug the ac adapter. If the cord stays in all the time while the pc is turned off, the energy managment settings work just fine. So, it seems like a hardware issue to me, but it's hard to imagine what exactly could be the problem, since the battery is charging. Any help would be much appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A:Ideapad 300-15isk Battery fully charged, but laptop shuts down when unplugged

Hi Raouaa, Please use Lenovo Settings to confirm the status of the battery, from your description of the issue it seems that this is a defective battery. Lenovo Settings should show you that the battery status is destroyed, if this is the case I would recommend getting in touch with Lenovo Warranty Support and getting the battery replaced if the unit is still under warranty. You can get in touch by clicking on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page under Support.Cheers,

My laptop has a battery light which tells me when my laptop is fully charged. When it is fully charged (it is green), Windows still says "05 minutes until fully charged" and then charges for another half hour. In the past the light has been reliable, so I believe that windows 10 is the issue. My laptop has also had significant issues with charging. I can confirm this with two batteries. I have an Asus K55VD which I haven't changed the battery plugs in or anything like that. What could my problem be? Here's what I've tried:

-Disabling and re-enabling Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery (no change)
-Turning power saving off in BIOS (did a bit of help with the charging problem)
-Fixing the fan (turns out it wasn't spinning, which caused a range of issues. Helped the battery charge issue a bit)
-Keeping the laptop shut down (didn't help)
-Keeping it asleep (didn't help)
-Keeping it on with the screen off (did help it charge)

Yet I can't find a fix for the battery charging percentage and time issue. Any help would be appreciated.

A:Battery fully charged, but still charging

You won't want to overcharge the battery but allow it to run down a bit often while not seeing the ac charging adapter plugged in constantly. Otherwise the life of the battery will be shortened. As for the 4hr. batteries those will show 3hrs. 52min. of time not a full 240min.! depending on make and model laptop as well as brand of battery. Found that out fast when the need to swap the 2hr. battery that came with an older model HP laptop saw the 4hr. replacement. The new Toshiba 10 laptop however came with a 4hr. battery.

Windows any version isn't exactly the best battery level meter to begin with and shouldn't be relied on as being absolutely 100% all the time. It is afterall still "Software" in contrast to having an accurate physical meter as well as the differences between makes and models of laptops having different power requirements while batteries will tend to see a standard for everything in use! One model will pull a battery down faster simply from having it running then the next! Different cpus as well as the rest of the hardwares will play a role there as well as the individual board designs. Never leave a laptop constantly plugged in while a battery is present as those will tend to get quite warm as well as the overcharge factor to watch for. A good overnight charge of 8hrs. max and if not wanting to see the battery run low and running off of ac a few hours but never constant as that will tend to kill a battery faster.

I have an Acer Aspire V5-571G laptop with Windows 10 installed (there's only an opton for "Aspire Desktops", so I had to choose this, but please not that I'm using a laptop).  Originally, my computer's battery icon when fully charged wouldn't only say it's fully charged like now.  I don't remember what it was exacty, but it used to say something more, too.  I'm not sure if it happened because I always keep my laptop plugged in, but it shouldn't be this because my dad also told me that it's supposed to switch to using electrical power to run rather than the power stored in the battery once it's fully charged and that whether you always keep it plugged in or not doesn't matter (is this true?).  Mine doesn't seem to do that anymore, and it sometimes also shows that it's in "98% (Plugged in, not charging)" mode, and then the charge continues to decrease.  I also tried removing the battery and booting it for a while without the battery, with just the electrical power, and then uninstalling the Battery Driver Softwarea and putting the battery back in and rebooting so it'd install the software on its own; and then I didn't reboot it again, but I did drain and recharge the batter three times, while letting cool down between charges.  But that doesn't seem to have worked.  If I posted this in the wrong section of the forums, it'd be appreciated if someone were to move it to the correct section.  Any help anyone can give me on this... The computer is doing it right. When battery is completly charged, there is no need used the charge from it and then charge again. Hence once the battery is completly charged, the power is used from adator. You can leave the adaptor plugged in and continue working or if you want to take hte computer around then goahead and use the cheage from battery.

Replacing my battery on G550. Manual says "Install a fully charged battery." How do I charge an uninstalled battery

A:Install a fully charged battery

Hi Username12,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

I don't think this is an absolute requirement for replacement battery to have it fully charged.
It would be expected that it has certain amount of charge to maintain battery firmware when purchased and as all the stocked battery would eventually have depleted on certain degree a period of time.

Initially powering it without the ac charger would ensure that it is working fine.
You can simply proceed to check if the new battery is recognized by the laptop, charging eventually within 3-4 hours being plugged in.

Hope this helps answer your query.
Update us how things go.

This problem started 3 weeks ago.

When battery charge reaches 100% the AC LED indicator is turned off and the laptop runs from battery (decreasing it's performance even selecting High Performance power plan).
If the AC plug is disconnected and reconnected the AC LED indicator is turned on until battery is fully charged again, as soon as the battery is fully charged windows battery notification icon changes from "99% available (plugged in, charging)" to "Fully Charged" and then the AC is turned off and the laptop starts to run from battery again.

I didn't update any laptop specific software nor BIOS.

Obviously this isn't true as im using it right now to post, my laptop also shows that its fully charged (The LED light is lighted indicating that it is 100% charged)

What can I do here? I'm quite sure its not a problem of a virus because i've scanned my computer and all. I am using a Toshiba laptop, using the Toshiba powerplan. And if needing more info, I shall provide but I don't think thats necesary for this problem.

Not sure if this will make a huge impact, however.

I just bought an Inspiron 15 i5558 Signature Edition two days ago, and it won't run if I unplug the AC adapter. It's acknowledging that there is a batter, and it says it's at 100% (but when I hover over it, it says not charging). It recognizes when I take the battery out, so I know the computer can recognize the battery, but whenever I unplug the charger from the computer, it immediately shuts off! The light at the front of my computer (which has a battery symbol next to it) is constantly flashing orange.

I'm incredibly fed up and am about to return this laptop if there isn't a solution.

You can try running an sfc scan to fix corrupted system files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Or you could try alternative battery meters. E.g. theres one made by a forum member (Bagaria).

Hello everyone,

About a year ago I bought a genuine replacement battery for my U500. A few months ago, the battery seemed to have gone bad (no charging), and since I was traveling I didn't have time to take it back to the dealer for yet another replacement. Last week, however, it started working normally all of a sudden - or so I thought.

As it turns out, the battery did actually charge (it recharged from zero to 95% in about an hour, and now the icon says "95%, not charging"), but it won't power the machine; if I pull the plug, the machine will die immediately.
I tried taking the batter out and cleaning the contacts, but that didn't seem to help.

Any input on this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Shady

A:Battery fully charged, but Satellite U500 won't power up

I think the battery is faulty.
Probably you purchased some kind of imitation product even if the part number would be the same.

Many 3rd party online dealers provide cheap ?china? batteries which are compatible (the battery dimensions are the same) but the performance isn?t the best?

I think you will need to replace the battery once again?

I primarily use my flex 4 when it is plugged into a wall charger, and was wondering if when it reaches 100% does the battery stop charging? What is the best way to keep my battery from degrading over time? Thanks!

A:Does the Flex 4 battery stop charging when fully charged?

Yes. it does stop charging. All modern laptops have a lithuim-ion battery that is computer controlled. But it is recommended to drain (use) the battery at least once a month to calibrate and maintain battery chemistry healthy.

Does this mean that the laptop is drawing power from the battery while it is constantly being charged or it is running straight from the power adapter as in "plugged in, not charging". I am currently encountering an issue where my IdeaPad 720s 15" is no longer operating at the battery life expectancy that it was 2 days ago.  I also have noticed that the fans are running constantly in the background at what I would guess to be half speed.  The fans are also sluggish to respond to changing temperatures and will not change in speed even when the CPU is hitting temps in the 80s until several minutes have passed. I would also like to note that even with system usage as low as I could get it (10% due to the System process deciding it needs 10% always) the fans still refuse to turn off.  The CPU also runs at ~40 degrees at idle (same as when the fans were off). I used to get estimated battery life at 10% brightness and with battery saver on in the 8 hour range, but now I get it in the 5 hour range.  I don't know if the System process was factor a few days ago, I don't believe it was though. I have tried updating the bios and any software on Lenovo's website, resetting the bios, changing bios options, using RegisteryEdit to change the CPU power settings to set the CPU to a 98% limit and I still can't get the fans to turn off.  This PC is also only a few days old, I got it about a week ago. I've also tried a few RegisteryEdit things to try and get the System process to stop eating CPU resources  but none of that has worked. I haven't tried resetting Windows and that seems to me the last option left but reinstall... I just got a new Ideapad 720S-13ARR, I bought two Anker adapters:USB 3.0 to EthernetUSB-C to HDMI adapterThe ethernet adapter works just fine. On the contrary, the USB-C to HDMI adapter does not works. I checked the adapter in another Dell laptop, and it works like a charm. But in the Lenovo, it is recognised by Windows as some "USB 2.0 BILLBOARD" device, it kind of gives the impression that Windows knows there is an external display since it lets you pick the projection mode, however it won't be able to read what monitor it is, and it won't display any image at all. I seem to have the latest BIOS and drivers, but I'm curious if I there is a particular Windows driver that I should force on this device as opposed to the default one that is getting (for that billboard thing). I saw other threads in this forum for Yoga noteboooks which were apparently resolved by a BIOS update, but I already have the latest. And I saw other threads in which a very significant amount of users are reporting all sort of problems with Lenovo's Type-C ports and these adapters. Has anyone been successful with this laptop and with any HDMI or VGA adapter? Does anyone knows if the Lenovo branded adapter works fine? Any particular driver I should force this device to use? Cheers! Nestor.

I had no response from either. This computer has been nothing but trouble for me. I had to send it out once for reapir for a similar issue, when it was under warranty (it no longer is). The entire time I've had it it frequently acts laggy and is difficult to use, if not impossible. Then it will snap out of it and be perfect. Is there anything I can do? Thanks in advance to whoever is able to help me. I don't think I'll ever buy another HP product. I'm convinced that this is a parts issue and should have been replaced for free, when I started having all these issues.

A:HP split X2 won't power on- at all. Fully charged.

Mine's doing the same thing after upgrading to Widows 10. I disabled the sleep function in the settings, and that still didn't work. To wake it up, separate the tablet from the keyboard, then hold down the power button until the Windows logo light comes on. Take your finger off the power button for a second, and then hold down the power button until it powers up. You might have to do this 2 or 3 times. Thanks HP. Nice equipment you got here. Garrett
