I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

On attempted boot-up, after the hp logo disappears, I get a blank screen that cycles through various colours (red, blue, yellow). Forced shut-down and reboot eventually gets to the Windows password screen and boot-up proceeds normally - but the problem is getting worse: several boot-up attempts needed,

I was in the middle of playing a game (agar.io) when my pc started flashing colors. First, a [red, green, blue, and white] screen, then alternating black and white. Then a combination of half black and half white, until it settles to an all black screen. After going all black, if I press a key on my keyboard it repeats everything. It does not allow me to go into safe or do anything at all. I can faintly see my homepage in the background. Even when I unplugged it and turned it on again, it's the same.

Hi, I have a NFREN NF-1500MA monitor and have had since i first got my computer a couple of years ago. Recently, after about 20 mins of being on it has started to flash blank different colours and then just keeps interchanging between colours. None of the content on the screen is visible. To check my graphics card, I tried it with my old CRT and it was fine.

So far I've replaced the monitor cable and after reading other posts I've recently had an attack of spyware so I'm in the process of updating my driver now.

I just wondered if anyone had heard of this problem before or knows anything about it?

Dear all, After a problem-free 1.5 years of use, I booted up my workstation today, and was met with a flashing screen (completely red, green blue, white at approximately 1-second intervals) on my E231i. There was no response to pressing the buttons on the monitor. Other displays attached to my workstation appeared responsive, and I could not find any loose connections. I shut down and restarted my computer, and the E231i appears to be working normally now. Any ideas as to what the issue might have been? Should I get in touch with support before my warranty expires? Many thanks for any assistance.

Hi Everyone!

I just joined and hopefully I can be of some help for others, but for starters I need to ask for help for myself! Before posting this, I did a search of the forums here but did not find anything identical to my issue.

I have a 10-month old Acer 5100 notebook that will no longer start Windows Vista (Home Premium if that matters).

A few nights ago I noticed the machine was at the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen (black background/white text). Unfortunately I was not around the machine when it got into this mode. The screen showed a list of 5 or less choices - I think the default highlighted choice was to let Windows search the hard disk for errors. I chose this but it didn't seem to start after watching it for several minutes. So being the impatient sort, I rebooted the PC and the same black screen with choices displayed. This time I selected 'Start Windows Normally' but when the system came back up it ends at the same screen again. (I believe the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen I was seeing was not the normal one I've always seen, but a different one with less choices, if that makes sense)

So I said forget this, I have a backup. I tried restoring a backup of the hard drive I made with Acronis True Image (I booted off the True Image CD). I chose to only restore just the C: partition. Both times I tried, it gets to over 50% complete then there's a message about the image being corrupt.

So I shu... Read more

I understand your computer powers on but doesn?t show a display on the monitor, is that correct? I will be happy to help you.

If you haven?t tried already start with a hard reset.

1.       Remove all  cables from the computer including the power cord

2.       Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds

3.       Once done only insert the mouse, keyboard, and power cable

4.       Try and turn the computer on to see what happens.

My Dell Inspiron 1100 is over 6 years old at this point, quite the dinosaur. However, I still have a bit of old data I would love to remove before it really bites the dust.

When I boot up the machine, usually the display is clear and bright. However, after no more than a minute the screen goes black and only a faint outline of the desktop remains. What is the problem and what do I need to do to solve it?

backlights or invertor board is failing (failed).

If there is an external monitor socket on it use a monitor to see the screen and then you can backup your data.

Last week I had to replace a corrupt HDD on my R730 Samsung Laptop's HDD.
After reinstalling windows 7 I installed the drivers for my hardware according to the Samsung website.

Since this happened, 80% of the time when I launch a program that enters full screen mode, i.e. games (and also sometimes when alt+tabbing out of these applications), the display goes solid black and then begins to cycle through solid colours.

The only thing I can imagine would be causing the problem to occur is when opening the programs the screen resolution changes and somehow causes an error due to the drivers.

The graphics card is an Intel(R) HD Graphics.
The video BIOS is 1994.0
Current Graphics mode is 1600 by 900.

I'd really appreciate any useful comments on this problem as it has become quite tedious. If you need any more information please let me know what it is and the best way to obtain it.

Thanks in advance

This can be demonstrated if you run the Clock App "Illuminating Clock" I like this a lot and would like to be able to make the start screen colours change automatically the same way - can this be done?

Is there a way to make an app like "Illuminating Clock" appear as a screen saver and to go back into the background at t a touch of a key or mouse?

I know it's not the monitor or connections because we've tested on another computer.I think it's just down to the computer graphics card. So could anyone please give me some advice on what the problem could be. I dont think a wire could affect the screen outcome.Ive uninstalled and reinstalled new drivers, and once the nvidia driver was uninstalled and i restarted the pc, the screen colour was still showing as greeny. The startup words which are normally white, show up as greenish. If you want pictures ask me and ill camera some.Thanks.Below is suppost to be a white background, but its displayed as greenish:

I would plug in my old cable and see if it goes back to normal. Try going to a older restore point, one before you starting changing things. Try this; right click on desktop and select personalize at the bottom of drop down. Look to the bottom of the screen and desktop back ground and pick a color.
Have you installed or updated any thing around the time of this problem?

Since thursday of last week, I have being having a perculiar problem:
I was just using my computer and playing on a online game and the computer froze and the screen turned Red. I could not do anything on it and had to reboot it. I thought this was odd, but just continued doing what I was doing. An hour or so later it happened again.

Since then it has happened countless times and my computer cannot even stay on for half an hour without this happeneing and im forced to reboot.

I was thinking it was my video card (I have a Nvidia GeForce 8600), but I only bought this four months or so ago and would it really burn out so fast?

I have virus scanned it and have removed EVERYTHING that is suspicious (I have a trojan Win32 downloader variant (Dont know what that is)).

Does anyone have any suggestions what I should do about this problem because I am just about at the end of my patience with it.

Thanks alot

A:Screen turns colours

Do you have an onboard video card that you can switch to to see if the problem replicates? If you do - take the 8600 completely out and attempt to use just the onboard video for a bit, not necessarily for gaming though as it probably will bog you down any how.

Okay, so let me start off by saying that this is not the same issue that most experience. I have searched and searched and found not really anything like this, similar, but not the same. Basically, very randomly, my desktop PC screen will just start rapidly flashing colours for about 30 seconds, then the computer shuts down. There is no pattern or consistency. Sometimes happens 3 times in 1 day, then not for a week. It is not a program that I use or anything that triggers it, well I don't think, because I basically only use the same couple programs all the time, and this crash is speratic. I posted a video on youtube so I could put a link here so you can actually see it happening (it's 17 seconds, took 13 to get the camera going I guess!) I hope someone can help because I'm out of ideas at this point and really don't want to have to reformat this freaking computer! I've had to do that way to many times with the old one, then we finally got this just just December of last year I believe. Please help!!!!! thanks - cheers - Josh

Hey all, new to the forum and hope you can help.

My laptop is about 4-5 years old and has been working fine. I pulled a bone headed move a while back and left the car window down and the computer got rained on. I dryed it as best I could and had my brother in law take it apart to check for moisture. He found none inside and powered it up. It worked fine for a couple of days. When I picked it up from him, I took it to work and powered it up. The power lights come on and you can hear it booting up. However, the screen is black. If you look very close, you can see the windows logo as it all boots up but it is very very dim, almost can't see it at all. Aside from the possible moisture problem, has any one experienced these symptoms? Any ideas are welcome as I really don't have the money to just buy a new one. My brother in law is a tv repair guy and could most likely make the repair if we just knew where to start.

I thank you in advance and hope to here from you soon.

My dell screen has turned white. I can hear windows booting in the background but unable to view on screen. Have tried an external monitor but get no visual display. Do anyone know what could be my problem?

A:Help with Dell Inspiron 1100 screen problems

First off when you connect the external monitor do you press the relevant key combination to enable the monitor, on most laptops its the FN key (bottom row on the left) and then one of the "F" keys, on my acer its F5, on my other dell its F8.

As for the white screen this maybe caused by the screen invertor failing or the screen itself failing, most invertors (inverters) can be bought for about fifteen pounds from ebay, screens however can cost upwards of 60.

It could also be a loose connection and would require the stripping down of the laptop to get to the ribbon connector that joins the screen to the base unit.

It's hard to tell in the photo, but the progress bars are pink and the text is white.  The same thing happens in Windows.  Where background parts of a window are supposed to be white they display as pink, but gray or other colours are mostly OK, and text is OK.  But at some random times the entire screen is OK.
The M4300 had a BIOS update many years ago that was supposed to protect the Nvidia video controller from getting damaged.  For many years it remained OK.
Can anyone diagnose this?
If the video cable came loose I can probably reseat it, but if the Nvidia controller decided it's time to join the club (the infamous Nvidia quality defects from that era) then I don't think I can fix it.

A:M4300 some colours pinkish, other colours OK

Dell SupportAssist could do a stress test on the Nvidia GPU.  When the GPU's temperature went over 85 degrees Celsius the entire screen became OK.  But when the GPU reached 87 degrees the fan came on, the GPU dropped back to 83 degrees, and parts of the screen that were supposed to be white became pink again.

Hi all,

I recently bought a new setup for myself specs;

Version: Windows 7 Ultimate x64
CPU: AMD FX Bulldozer 8120 x8 3.10GHz
MOBO: Asus M5A78L-MLX V2
VGA: nVidia GeForce GTX 275
RAM: Ripjaws G.Skill 8GB
PSU: Powercool 750W
HDD: Samsung HD753LJ 750GB
Monitor: Acer X223W

And once I formatted a new version of Windows 7 onto it I noticed wavy lines running across the screen, now these are quite faint and only appear on grey/darker backgrounds and are otherwise unnoticable on other colours.

I have tried several things and nothing seems to be working, this is what I have tried;

Changing monitor
Changing VGA cable (twice)
Changing power supply
Changing graphics card
Tried setting monitor at 60 refresh rate
Updating drivers for monitor and VGA

After running out of options I emailed the place I bought my MOBO, RAM and CPU from (Aria.co.uk) and they said to run Memtest on my RAM, I did and I returned 3 errors within 3-4 hours so I emailed them giving them the error and they said to return the RAM which I did.

No one has any idea? Aria today said it may be a graphics problem but a change of montior and graphics card both still showed the same error.

I understand its a hard one to solve but anything I can try would help.
