Extra HDMI ports not working

Q: Extra HDMI ports not working

Hey guys, hope your all well.So recently I got an extra display to plug into my hp envy 750-129ns so I can use an extended display. The problem is that the only 2 hdmi ports avalible are the ones located at the bottom, I think where the sound things are, and they don't do anything when I plug my display hdmi into them. My video card has only one hdmi port, and the other 3 are just DisplayPorts not hdmi. The screen and cable work fine as when I plug it into this it works. The problem is I need another port to plug my other display into.Is their any reason why these 2 extra hdmi ports are not working? The has a little plastic protector cap plugged into them. Are they just optional extensions that I'd have to get installed, Or am I missing some drivers? Thanks for any help,Alex

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Over the past few years I've had most all of my  M4600  or other M series HDMI port refuse to put out a signal.  I've had several company visitors bring their Dell laptops in and if they are M series laptops will not communicate with our overhead projectors via HDMI. The projector simply says NO SIGNAL.  Yet on the same projector when I connect my E5450 it will project just fine.  This happens when using a TV using HDMI as well.
In all cases it SEES the projector or TV screen as a second monitor.  I've popped open the PROJECT app and told it to MIRROR the screens.  I can see the monitor add itself to DEVICE MANAGER when plugging in the HDMI cable and see it leave when unplugging it. This happens with Windows 7 and Windows 10.
I had a an old M4600's connected it to my TV.  It worked for months on Windows 10 then suddenly would no longer put out a signal over HDMI.  Again, I can see the TV by correct name in Device Manager when it's plugged in, I tell it to MIRROR or even EXTEND the desktop and nothing happens but NO SIGNAL on the TV. I pulled out an even older M4600 one that had been offline for about a year and it worked until MS did updates.  I went through the Dell updates and Windows updates and will no longer work - NO SIGNAL.
I put a brand new fresh Windows 10 image on the first laptop (that I had been using for months) and it no longer works - with a brand new image from MS.  I tried updat... Read more

We cannot speak to the untested Windows 10 on this 2011 PC. We have no idea what drivers Microsoft would push for Windows 10 or how they will react with this older hardware. We can only troubleshoot the ones with Windows 7. Are you using Fn + F8 to switch to the TV/projector? Also, Nvidia Optimus must be Enabled.

I recently downgraded my HP Pavilion 17-e119wm Notebook from Windows 8.1 to Windows 7. The main final issue is I can't connect to an external display. It appears the VGA and HDMI ports are not working. It may be an issue of missing drivers, but I am not sure. Can you provide assistance? Thanks.

A:VGA and HDMI Ports Not Working

Assuming the built in dispaly is working OK, then it does not make sense for a driver issue.  By stating "It appears the VGA and HDMI ports are not working" just what is happening when an external monitor or display is connected?  Are you looking in the right place to enable the second screen?Right click on a empty spot on the desktop and then pick "Screen resolution"  It should show the normal display as #1.  Click on "Detect", it should then show the extra display.  Click on the "new" display to set it up.

I received my HP Envy 750-435st Desktop today (ordered from HP) and the HDMI ports did not work out of the box. I tried multiple cables which I verified worked with same monitor (HP Pavilion 27xw)  and another computer. I read on the forum that an older version of BIOS had killed HDMI for a lot of Pavillion users. I used HP Support Assist to update everything in my new computer. Bios updated to F15. HDMI ports still not recognized. I have to connect with an old VGA cable, but need the HDMI to work. Are there other options I can try?

I recently bought the HP Envy Pheonix 860-050na PC and have had issues with the HDMI ports. There appear to be three on the back, however only one works. I have been trying to set up multiple displays, however because of this issue it is not working. Below shows pictures of the ports. The two labeled HDMI ports are the ones that do not work, and the one on its own works without any issue at all. Any assistance with this would be appreciated.Thanks.

This is a question to all owners out there. I have no use for the dGPU and I would like to disable it in BIOS completely, but will this mean that the HDMI ports (or other output ports) stop working? I read somewhere that the HDMI ports are connected directly to the dGPU but I really hope that is not true.

Vista Ultimate 64-bit, ASUS Rampage Formula motherboard, USB mouse and keyboard connected in back ports.

Two things happened: Avira antivirus warned me of some threats which I either ignored or deleted. Windows Update had some updates ready (although I'm not sure if it updated).

I turned off my PC for a couple of hours, turned it back on and realized that my USB keyboard was not working on the password screen.

I eventually unplugged it from the back and plugged it into the front, where it worked. However, my USB mouse did not work when plugged into the second front port, nor did it work when plugged into the front port in which the keyboard worked.

I accessed System Restore using my keyboard and restored to one day previously. When it finished, both keyboard and mouse worked, although I got a pop-up message alerting me that the "drivers for your device could not be installed." When I clicked "OK," the mouse stopped working again.

I have checked BIOS and both mouse and keyboard are recognized, so it does not appear to be a hardware issue.

While doing some minor unrelated repair on my Yoga 900 I noticed a few extra ports on the motherboard. On of them (JP7) has a connector soldered in (looks like those for cooling fans, five pins) but nothing connected to it and two others (JP10, JP15) without anything. I'm curious whether I can connect anything to them, who knows where could I find some specifications for the motherboard? Maybe some people working at Lenovo can shed some light on this? I'd really prefer to have some information before I start poking around with a multimeter or something. Thanks.  Photo of the ports (sorry I couldn't figure out )how to embed the image). (I know that anything like this voids your warranty. Besides, it's possible to destroy your motherboard and other expensive parts by doing any unauthorized alterations or repairs. Hello!

I need support, I'm getting CRAZY!

I bought an screen 27" to connect via HDMI to my laptop, I tried in the store and the display worked straight ahead just connecting the HDMI.
They sent me a few days later a brand new one, and for my surprise it doesn't work.

I know that my laptop works perfectly fine, I connect it regularly to the TV, using the same cable, and the screen works with other computers.

I found in Toshiba's website an update for display drivers, Intel (R) HD Graphics.
Right after the installation of this drivers the screen works!

I can see the duplicate of the image, no issue, but then, I have to restart the computer to save the changes.

Upon the restart, the image isn't seen any more, Intel Graphics doesn't recognize any other output, the screen shows a clear message that there's not HDMI signal coming.

if I reinstall the drivers, the screen comes to life again, only delaying the restart action I get it to work for a while. In the last try I made it didn't last longer than 15' about.

I've also looked into the website of Phillips (brand of the screen), found a pack to update the screen drivers for Windows 8. But my system answers that is all up to date...

SOS!

Hi

What happens if you use the FN + F4 (or only F4) key combination?
Does it switches between the internal and external display?

The FN + F4 changes the active display device. To use a simultaneous mode, you must set the resolution of the internal display panel to match the resolution of the external display device.

I am currently doing research to figure out what my Laptop can do to support 120Hz at 1080p on an Asus VG248QE 24-Inch LED-Lit Monitor monitor. After doing some research, I've found that HDMI 1.4b, along with Display Port and DVI-D can all support 120Hz at 1080p, and with a DVI-D to HDMI 1.4b adapter, I should be able to get this.

I don't know however, what kind of HDMI port my PC has (or if they're all the same)? How can I find out whether or not the HDMI port on my laptop will support HDMI 1.4b to get the 120Hz I desire? I am currently using a customized Toshiba Qosmio X70-A.

Based on this info does it seem likely that the front ports themselves are faulty?

You might check to see if the case end of the USB cables are properly plugged into the front panel holding the headers. Some board need more than one brand of USB drivers, Renesas, NEC, etc.

But, since there is a video card installed with HDMI, DVI and PD ports, HP decided to plug those little black plastic thing there. I am sure if you pull the video card out of the computer, and plug your HDMI cable on any of those two ports, you will see video.  By doing so,  I think the limitations are clearly understandable.

A:Is there any possibility of using two hdmi ports from my pc

Using an addon card will almost always disable the onboard gpu. You could simply purchase a video card that has two HDMI ports. Or you could simply use the DVI port. The only difference between the HDMI port and the DVI port is that the HDMI port also supports audio. The video signal (quality) is the same as they are both a digital signal.

Is this a drivers or config issue?

i added 2 pictures one of tv and the other of my computer, view settings are cloned so it shows the same on both, the tv has kind-of a "ghost picture", you see the weird white glow the letters have?

Confused. As you saying it works one way and not the other?

If so, (and assuming that the HDMI is the one having the issue) have you verified the resolution showing when using the HDMI and have you figured out if the DVI adapter you bought is actually the correct one for the video card (IOW _ are you using a 3rd party DVI to HDMI or the one that came with the card)?

I have an HP Pavilion 550-154na desktop connected to my Dell monitor by HDMI cable from the graphics card, it works fine. But I'd like to connect a second monitor (or projector). The graphics card only has one HDMI port, but the back of the machine has two HDMI ports (covered with black caps), which presumably come off the motherboard. I tried plugging my monitor into one of these ports but the screen stayed blank. What are my options? Is it possible to get output from these ports or do I need to use a splitter or something?

A:Should my motherboard HDMI output ports work?

Hi: When your model has a discrete (add-on) video card, the onboard graphics is automatically disabled. Look under the Integrated Graphics specs. http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Pavilion-550-100-Desktop-PC-series/8499648/model/9242957/docu... You can get output from those ports if you remove the graphics card. If you leave the graphics card in, you can either hook up a DVI cable from the DVI out port on the graphics card to the DVI input of your monitor.  I would think most monitors have multiple inputs. If your other monitor only has a HDMI input, get a DVI to HDMI cable. You will not get audio from a DVI port.

Hi,

I have an Asrock ION 330 HT BD with a Sony Bravia 720p attached (HDMI to HDMI). When I start up my PC, the screen remains black. Only after I plug in a second monitor, both screens work just fine. When I pull the second monitor out, the Bravia also stops getting a signal. Seems a bit weird.. How can I get it to work with just the Bravia attached?

Thanks,
Gijs

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Have you made sure your graphics card driver is up to date?

Have you tried starting your PC up in safe mode and seeing if the problem still persists?

Please ensure you have done both of these and then post back; it would also be helpful if we knew your system specifications which you can fill in under 'User CP'.

Also does the task bar appear on the primary monitor or secondary monitor?

Hi,

I have a 6 month old Z30-A Portege i7 laptop (PT243A-0HW02X) running Windows 7 64bit, and the 13.3" 1920x1080 internal display screen is not working - nothing is displayed on the screen.

However I can connect an external monitor via the RGB cable port or to the HDMI port and still use the laptop that way.

I have tried various Function F5 Output toggles choosing Clone, External, Extend, Switch Display, but nothing works to get output back again to the laptop display screen.

On the External option I see a laptop icon in grey colour with a X on the screen, and a '1' on the other display icon, and a window appears for 'Toshiba Flash Cards' with red x error message " Failed to initialize Output Configuration dialog!".

There is no further help available to tell me what the problem is.
When I choose the Function F5 Output Configuration option, the 'Internal' line is greyed out, so I can't select it.

Has anyone else had this issue?
Could a BIOS update help to tell me if there is a hardware issue?
There is nothing about the display error in the Windows event viewer.

Thanks.

A:No display on Portege Z30-A screen but HDMI / RGB ports work

I have a similar problem.

When I boot up, I see the Windows 7 logo, but then everything goes black after that.

I can start the computer in safe mode and the laptop screen works no problem. In Safe Mode I can even switch to 1920x1080 resolution. So the video hardware + drivers are working, just not in normal Windows mode.

Tried reinstalling video drivers but no luck.

I also wiped the computer and reinstalled Windows 7 + video drivers and still no luck...

It started happening literally out of the blue... after six months, like yourself.

I have a Z30t-A-123.

Does anybody from Toshiba respond here or are we left to our own devices?

Only the blank port out of my PC works. HDMI ports labled as"1" and "2" do not work. Why? I need to set up multiple moniters.

as the post states, are there such thing as video cards sending sound though it's HDMI or DVI output ports?

like for example...

an nVidia or ATI card providing sound through its HDMI (like a blu-ray player) or DVI outputs.

If I use both USB ports and the HDMI port at the same time I lose sound from the laptop. Neither of the USB ports are connected to headphones or external speakers. Is this to be expected or is there a setting I need to change?

Thanks

A:Inspiron 15 7569 loses sound when USB and HDMI ports are used

The HDMI ports are a sound output device.  If you have something plugged in which can produce sound you should hear it there.
Try opening the Playback devices window from the speaker icon on the taskbar.  You should see the HDMI listed and showing sound levels if actual sound is playing.  If you don't, look for any other device which may be showing changes in sound levels.  You may have to disable one type if it is getting your sound.

27er - it has 2 HDMI ports, one works great and is clear.  The other is fuzzy and distorted.  Same problem on both Windows 7 system and Windows 10 system.  VGA port works great.

Hey guys, brand new kid here. Fairly computer literate but not a whiz by any means. I had to do a Windows XP System Recovery on my HP desktop PC a few weeks ago and since then my USB 2.0 ports haven't been themselves.

Before when I used my Kingston 4gb SDHC card in my front USB 2.0 ports (as they're labeled) it worked at full speed with no problems. After the System Recovery, when I plug in the card it gives me a message saying "This device could perform faster if it were plugged into a High Speed USB 2.0 Port." The problem is, my Device Manager lists a high speed port and hub on my computer, but I get the same message on all the ports on my computer. I tried updating the drivers and uninstalling and reinstalling them but to no avail.

Is there any way to fix this?
