X1 Yoga 3rd Gen TB3 Video Output = Jittery Palm Rejection

Q: X1 Yoga 3rd Gen TB3 Video Output = Jittery Palm Rejection

Hi, I'm having problems with the palm rejection on my X1 Yoga. When using the TB3 port for video output to external monitors, the palm rejection gets twitchy when I have my palm on the screen and the supplied pen jumps all over the screen while drawing. The same exact thing happens with my Wacom Bamboo. When I stop using the TB3 port (either unplugging or set display to PC only), the insane jitter goes away and the palm rejection works normally. Also, if I use the pens with my hand lifted off the screen, there is no jitter. I tried the same thing on the HDMI connection and the palm rejection seems to be working fine. Any suggestions? I'm on Windows 10 Build 17134 & BIOS Firmware N25ET39W (1.25) and have all the latest updates installed through Lenovo Vantage. Thanks!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The X1 Yoga rejects touch as if it were a palm way too easily. When using the X1 in tablet mode, my thumb often is at an angle where the entire thumb is used to scroll through pages, however, the X1 sees this as a palm, rejecting the touch.  Heres a video detailing what I'm talking about. As a note, this does not happen at all on a Surface Pro 4, which actaully knows that I'm using a thumb not a palm. I mean how can the touchscreen mistake my thumb for how big a palm is? Not very happy as I use my X1 in tablet mode to browse the web quite often.

Is there a way to dial back the palm detection sensitivity on the X1 Yoga?

I have a yoga 720 and a bamboo ink stylus for it. i had recently sent the unit in to get the hinges replaced as they were warped. I recieved the laptop back and did the latest windows 10 update, however now when i rest my palm on the screen to write it glitches causing what i write to not appear. This was not an issue before sending it in. I am wondering if this is possibly something caused by sending the laptop in or a software issue. It works fine when i write without placing my palm on the screen.

Hi,My ideapad lenovo yoga 720(13 inches) had wifi problems and a "pen writing" dead zone when I used to write with my palm down. After talking with lenovo support, I ve decided to send it to repair.Days passed and I ve kept checking the repair board seeing messages as " looking for parts" then " repairing" and at the end "repair completed see notes" . But repair notes said " Verified orderly functioning. Taken functional tests for the device. "Now I am worried that they didn't repair my laptop. So I was asking myself "what did the message looking for parts meant"? Hope to hear somebody who had/ is in my same situation. Here's a video with the main problem. I received the PC. They didn't repair it because they marked it as "working unit". I am mad of this. Palm rejection is not working correctly or pheraps is the entire Display Digitizer. The funny thing is that I ve send it with a "tempered glass attached". I knew that if a repair centre has to deal with tempered glass "They will always peel it off" before starting to work on it. Well It is still there, that states the quality of the whole operation. Should had bought something else. Here I attach the video (italian "dubbing" sorry).https://youtu.be/-y47lqillhY

I've noticed that a portion of the screen of my yoga 720 won't respond to my wacom stylus while my palm is resting on the screen. I've tried the "ignore touch" option in windows settings with no avail. Anyone else have this issue? Is this something I can fix on my end?

As a new owner of the C930, I'm very much enjoying the experience.  Last night I started to play around with the Pen and doing some sketches and drawings using some built-in Windows 10 apps.  The experience was fine especially after I adjusted some Pen settings in Windows 10.  But one thing I noticed was there were some blemishes outside of my main drawing where possibly my palm was on the screen.  Small blemishes which I could "erase" but just wondering if others have the same issue and how you solved it. Thanks in advanceAmar

I got my Yoga 260 around 10 days ago. I first updated my windows 10 to the new release (so I'm not sure if the problem was there from the begining). The pen is not working as it should be, the tip is not detected or detected by some offset (usually it goes into bottom of the screen besides taskbar). For example I start writing in onenote and suddenly instead of writing on the current line it is writing some wiggly things on the bottom of the page. This is not only happening in onenote or inking apps, even when I'm using the pen for selecting lines in a webpage, jumps happen.   Is this a pen problem? or display digitizer? Also I'm not sure if this is a driver problem or hardware problem. I tried to rollback to original installed windows 10 to test that, using factory resseting but I couldn't, windows keeps the upgrade. I checked the wacom driver it is recent 08/02/2016 even more recent than the one available on wacom's website (I tested both). I changed the pen and inking setting: made the handness to "right hand" and "Ignore touch input when I'm using my pen" to on, but nothing helped. It is really frustrating, because I mainly bought this notebook because of its stylus. So anyone else had the same problem? Any fixes for that?  Thanks

After upgrading to windows 10, palm rejection while using the stylus no longer works, causing there to be multiple glitchy inputs while the pen is active. It's set to right handed pen use and it's still messed up. The other thing is that crystal disk info says that there's no health setting for my SSD and most of it's stats are "unknown". Anyone know of any solutions to these issues?

Hi, I recently purchased 2 Yoga 920s from Lenovo. On one of them I am having serious issues with palm rejection and none of the solutions I can find on the various forums seem to resolve my issue. When writing (e.g. in One Note) and resting my palm on the screen, the cursor keeps "jumping" between my palm and the tip of the pen. This leads to any of the following behaviors:- Not writing at all (e.g. Hello turns into H    l  o)- "writing" where my palm is located- doing some freaky stuff and just creating random lines in the area of my palm and pen  How could I resolve this issue?

I bought the Lenovo Flex 5 with digitizer and active stylus hoping I would be able to use it for drawing and painting as well as writing notes/ journaling as it's advertised to be capable of but I'm really disappointed. First of all, if my palm is resting on the screen the pen acts really glitchy. Only about 10% of what I write/draw is registered at all and half of that is really delayed. Additionally the action isn't very accurate, if I use a ruler to draw a line it tuns out jagged and bumpy and everything I write/ draw looks really sloppy. I've used a Microsoft Surface Pro 4  and an iPad Pro with the pencil and none of these things were an issue, the outcome was as accurate as pen and paper.  I've tested out several applications/ programs, some are better than others but none of them are good enough for me to really want to use. I replaced the the active stylus with a Wacom Bamboo Ink stylus, the rubber tip feels better to use but the results are still the same. I also went to a store and tested both of my pens on the two Flex 5s they had on display and it was all the same. Is this a software issue that can be improved through updates? Or is anyone having a positive experience drawing on a Flex 5? It is advertized to have palm rejection, accuracy and pressure sensativity, there is digitizer technology that succesfully achieves all of those things for a plesant writing/ drawing experience so why doesn't this?

I could really use your help! I use OneNote on my Yoga 14 (Type 20FY) to take notes in veterinary school and I've had an issue for the past year or so. While in tablet mode, if I'm using the stylus pen, it will take anywhere from 2 to 15 seconds after removing the pen from the screen to allow input with a finger. Sometimes it takes even longer than that and I have to either unfold the screen or write with the pen again to finally get it to toggle palm rejection off again. Here's a link to a video I made a few minutes ago of the issue https://youtu.be/-RPDYB96GXk  I usually just keep the computer folded over my left arm while writing with my right so that I can unfold it quickly and refold it, but this slows my note-taking drastically and drives me crazy! Even when everything is running perfectly, my classes cover so much material that I can't keep up, so this is really an issue for me.  This problem NEVER occurs when the computer is in laptop mode - the palm rejection toggling happens instantly every single time while in laptop mode. This makes me believe it might be a setting somewhere in the tablet mode code. Any suggestions are welcome and I'd be completely fine with disabling tablet mode entirely if that's possible. Below is some info on the system, if you need more info, let me know!Yoga 14 (Type 20FY)64 bit Windows 10 HomeMicrosoft OneNote 2016 MSO (16.0.8528.2126) 32 bit

Welcome to the forum.

Is your adapter from Lenovo? Yoga 910 Platform Specifications indicates that both HDMI and VGA dongles are available but does not give part numbers. If you have a Lenovo adapter then perhaps you could call Lenovo and confirm that it's the correct one.

In this thread Yoga 910 USB-C Adapters user PhilipHendry says, "I've used this Dell USB-C to HDMI Adaptor and it works perfectly with the 4K monitor at 30hz I've got a work." Other posters on that thread report problems with other brands of adapters. It seems that the Y910 is particularly finiky about this.

But recently also online videos will stutter, stop & start. I checked my broadband speed (web page diagnostic) which was okay. I checked for firmware updates which seemed okay. The cpu-z data is here.

So what is causing the problem please?

OK, so I've noticed that on my notebook laptop, when watching videos online that they are jittery. I did some digging and found that it may be hardware acceleration interfering with playback and that it can be disabled in the display>advanced settings>troubleshoot tab.

Unfortunately, my problem is that under this tab, there is only a greyed out 'change settings' button, unclickable. I've done everything else I can find to reduce the effect, so now I turn to all those more knowledgeable than myself: any ideas?

I am working on my older Dell Inspiron N5030 laptop and I cannot figure out my jittery video problem. I believe it could be the mobo but I want to be certain that my faulty component is not the LCD. (Windows 7 Pro was recently installed) On Windows 7, only when I adjusted the display to 16-bit color was there no desktop video jittering. Personally I could not see any color difference. (NO gaming -- strictly email, web browsing, and minor document work) Yesterday I upgraded to Windows 10 Pro and of course Win10 has no available overall 16-bit\32-bit color adjustment. If I connect to an external monitor PLUS use the internal LCD, there is absolutely no video problem on either screen at all resilutions. If I use only the internal LCD there is a constant jittery desktop video problem until I reduce the internal display resolution to 1280 x 720. At that resolution the jittering stops! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, I have been experiencing very choppy/jittery HD video playback on my new computer which I have recently built. So far I have tried using Windows Media player, VLC player and Splash PRO. I'm not sure why I have this problem, because my specs aren't too bad:

* CPU: Intel i5 ~ 3.3 GHz
* Graphics: Gigabyte 6870 OC edition 1GB
* RAM: 4GB DDR3 ~ 1333 MHz
* SSD: 30 GB Kingston
* HDD: 1 TB Seagate SATA 3
* Sound Card: Creative Audigy 4

I thought that these specs would be sufficient to run HD videos smoothly, however they don't seem to be. It is particularly noticeable in pan shots, where it seems like the video is lagging. Strangely though when playing HD mkv, or mp4 at 1080p, the cpu usage seems to only be about 8%. I have a laptop with much lower specs (it only has a windows experience index of 3.0, as appose to 7.4 on my other computer, and it plays HD videos much smoother, without jitter, but it uses about 100% cpu. What is wrong with my computer?

A:[SOLVED] Jittery HD video playback

Personally, I'd hope you built that system for more than HD video, because if there were a set specification requirements for HD video, that system would flatten them.

The graphics is great and you actually have a dedicated sound card (which is more than mine, and I can play HD just fine). I'd argue HD requirements aren't actually that high.

You say you have tried different media players, have you been trying to run the same HD video file? It could be the file that is at fault.

It is likely you have, but just in case, have you downloaded all the most up-to-date drivers for your system, graphics card and sound card especially?

Dear All,

I'm using PowerPoint 2007 as part of my lectures. They work allright, but their motion is jittery/ sort of staggers a bit. I hate it. Could someone help?

They are AVI files created on Pinnacle from footage shot with my own little camera, a Panasonic PV-GS320 with 3CCD. A lovely little machine.

The footage is LESS jittery on ordinary disc-and-TV.

I very much want to include the footage in the PPT presentation itself: it's just not the same when I show the video first and then move on to the PPT presentation.

Hope someone can help!

Kind wishes,

Hello, I've been having problems for quite some time now and upon google search after search there doesn't seem to be an answer. When the audio is on, for videos, games, music, etc. it sometimes "skips" like an old cd player. Its pretty obnoxious, and I'm wondering why exactly this is so. I'm assuming I have an old driver or something, because I upgraded my pc from win 7 to win 8 pro. Thanks for the help and let me know if anyone needs clarification!

A:Jittery sound when playing music/video games (Win 8 Pro)

Audio is always on a shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. Depending on the shared device, it can "interrupt" the audio and cause skipping.

If you have the HP supplied IDT audio driver for Win 7, it is also compatible for Win 8. However, check the Device Manager and see what devices are listed in the Sound section. You should ONLY have the correct IDT sound driver and possibly HDMI audio (if your system has this) and nothing else. If "HD Audio Codec" (the generic Windows installed sound driver) is also listed, or any other sound, except the IDT and possibly HDMI, uninstall those as they can cause conflicts and other audio problems. Restart the PC if you uninstalled anything.

If you only have the correct entries in the sound, RIGHT click on the entry for the IDG and then LEFT click "Uninstall" (do not uninstall the drivers). Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This will fix any potential corruptions between Windows and the sound and sometimes will put the sound on a different shared IRQ and fix or mimimize any interruptions.

Rather than post a ZIP file of items, we usually just post screen shots. Screenshots and Files - Upload and Post in Eight Forums

A:Yoga 14: Creaking noise under right palm

Hi

I don't have that creaking noise on my TPY 14 on the right palm with normal hand weight, but I noticed that this model has some creaking/squeaking noise on the plastic if you make some preasure on the right just over the power button. I also notice some creaking noise on the top left just on the SDCard slot if you make some preasure there.  I'm thinking that those two creaking noises are part of the design of the machine.

I have an S-Video port on my computer and I am going to run it to my 46" Projection TV.

What I want to know is how to switch b/t S-Video out and the VGA out so I can switch between my monitor and TV - is there a keyboard combination I have to hit (like on a function key on a laptop)?

I will only be viewing video files on my TV (so it won't be too often that I use the S-Video out port).

I remember doing this a while back, but it seems like I had to do a restart and unhook my VGA connection to get the S-Video feed to work - there must be an easier way.

Thanks ALL!!!

Depending on the card, I am personally better versed with ATI, but I know my Nvidia also, you can set up a dual display and set the S video to play all movies at full screen, and through the control disable the TV when not in use.

I bought a Lenovo ThinkPad L380 Yoga in August 2018. It has been used very carefully without any drops or other accidents. Today, I discovered a hairline crack on the palm rest just next to the bottom-left corner of the touchpad.  I contacted Lenovo support regarding this matter, and after seeing the photos that  I sent them (the same photos are attached here), they have concluded that it is a customer induced damage (CID) and will not be covered under warranty. The only justification for their conclusion was that there is no such issue reported in other laptops. This justification was made over the phone when I requested them an email regarding their justification. It is only the hand that is kept around this region of the palm rest. If it cannot bear the weight of the hand, I suppose the build quality and material is pretty cheap although the price was about 1800 NZD.  Have you also come across similar issues with the same L380 Yoga? What are the situations/scenarios for such a crack to happen when the device has been properly used and maintained in accordance with the product information guide? Cheers!!

There should be a Firewire (otherwise called IEEE 1394 or DV Link) port on the camera, it looks like a mini USB port. Using a Firewire cable, connect this port to the Firewire port on your laptop or PC. If your PC has no Firewire port, you can add one by buying a PCI Firewire card.

Okay, here's what I want to do. I want to send video output to a Plasma in my family room and also have output to the computer monitor in the adjacent office. I have the option of using either VGA or DVI to either monitor, so I can use a video card that has dual VGA/DVI outputs. Or, I can buy a separate PCI video card. Right now I have an ATI All-in-Wonder 7500.

Am I better off to get a new video card with dual monitor output or have two separate video cards. If the former, what video cards do you recommend? I know I've seen recommendations for the 9600 Pro, which seems to have dropped significantly in price? I'd like to stay with ATI as I've always used that.

I just use this extra monitor for when stuff breaks cause the BIOS options don't show on HDMI output - right now it's allowing the TV to display the picture but if I remove that cable the video goes again. I'm guessing it's a different video profile when they're both plugged in from when they aren't or something and I don't know how to make changes to just the TV when both are plugged in for me to be able to see.

When I click on the sound icon it immediatley takes me to a box taht says "detecting problem" and then no problem is detected. I need help please! Thank you!!

I connected to a 4K TV using HDMI but Windows does not detect HDR support.  The TV supports HDR.  I updated Windows and Intel Graphics to the latest versions.  Do I need to connect using the USB-C port?  Which USB-C to HDMI adapter is recommended?  I see many posts saying that certain adapters don't work.

Hi to everyone, with my previous pc i listened to music with a toslink on TRS cable plugged into an av receiver. Now, with the yoga 710, it seems, that it is not possible to do as well. is it that the soundchip is not able to give out digital audio signals or is it a software/driver issue? the digital audio output signal is not listed in the audio devices list. thanks for help specs: yoga 710-14ikb; i7; 8gb

Is there any way to get higher than 1080p resolution on an external monitor through HDMI from a Yogo 150 14-IKB? I've just bought a monitor that can do up to 2560x1440 @ 60Hz (as it can when connected to my other laptop which has a 16" screen that natively runs 1366x768, using AMD Radeon R5 graphics) but it appears that the Yoga 520-14IKB can't do so. What I've tried so far is to update the drivers on the Yoga for my new monitor, so that Windows 10 doesn't use the default PnP monitor driver, but this didn't immediately unlock any other settings. The default maximum resolution through the output is 1920x1080, which means that pixel size on the external (24") monitor is >1.5x pixel size on my laptop screen (14"). I've looked at the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel (as it runs Intel HD 610 graphics), and I can add this extra resolution as a custom resolution, but the monitor claims the signal is out of range when I try the 2560x1440 (60Hz) that I can get from the other graphics chipset. Is there anything else to try?

Actually, though further inspection on my 15.6" laptop, the output is downsampled in software before going through HDMI at a 1920x1080 resolution, which is what the monitor can use, so it looks like it might be a driver issue rather than anything hardware related.

Hello, My laptop specs:Yoga 720 13" - Platinum SilverPart No: 80X60067USConfiguration Details?  Processor: 7th Generation Intel® Core? i7-7500U Processor (2.70 GHz 4MB) ?  Display Type: 13.3" FHD IPS AntiGlare Multitouch (1920x1080) with integrated camera?  Memory: 16.0GB DDR4 2133 MHz (Onboard) ?  Graphics: Intel® HD Graphics 620 My external monitor is BenQ ZOWIE XL2411 24" 16:9 144 Hz LCD I asked this question in intel forums about the maximum available resolution of this laptop and they refered me here.Right now I output [email protected] using the above monitor and laptop (using DVI-DL cable and adapters).The questions is can I output [email protected]?On intel website, the tech specs of the cpu/gpu describe the max res:https://ark.intel.com/products/95451/Intel-Core-i7-7500U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_50-GHz-?sf181299...but this is only for [email protected] Thanks,Alon

A:Yoga 720 13" maximum output resolution

Hi zarka,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

Looking at the Platform Specifications of Yoga 720 13" it says Max resolution: [email protected]  using DP port. And IMHO it can output [email protected] if you are using DP port only according to this. But the monitor which you have mentioned doesn't have DP input.

I hope the above information helped you.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!
