I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello robertpwns and welcome,

We will begin with ComboFix.exe. Please visit this webpage for download links, and instructions for running the tool:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/comb...o-use-combofix

Please ensure you read this guide carefully and install the Recovery Console first.

The Windows Recovery Console will allow you to boot up into a special recovery (repair) mode. This allows us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware. It is a simple procedure that will only take a few moments of your time.

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.

Please continue as follows:Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.
Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
When the tool is finished, it will produce a report for you.

Please include the following reports for further review, and so we may continue cleansing the system:

C:\ComboFix.txt

I am trying to help a person that isn't very computer literate. She has the 2020 search toolbar on her machine and her parasite software is detecting it as a trojan but won't clean it. Is there an online scan or tool that will clean this trojan?

A:2020 search toolbar

Download CWShredder:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe
Run and hit the ->fix tab to fix all found problems

CWShredder takes advantage of security holes in windows so you should install all critical as well as hotfixes available from windows update.
Then repost a fresh Hijack this log .

Download 'Hijack This!' http://www.spychecker.com/program/hijackthis.html and save it to a folder on your desktop.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here. Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

I had some help deleting some problems from my hijack this log but I cant seem to delete the 2020 Search from my Add/Remove programs. Ive tried to delete it on safe mode and on normal mode. Can anyone help.

A:Cant delete 2020 Search

How was it "removed" originally? Have you deleted the programs folder for it? Are there any executables still running?

If you are just seeing it in Add/Remove programs and no place else, that's a registry edit.

You must find the listing for the program under this key (run regedit):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

And right click on it and delete it. It's possible it might be one of the "clsid" keys (numbered entries). If you don't find a program folder name, you must open each clsid and look in the right pane for it. If you are in doubt, don't delete anything, or select File > Export and save the key first as a reg file. You can restore it by doubleclicking

Previous to Win 10 v2001 Cum Update 2020-07 the following folders were in:
C:\Users\Dennis\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\

INetcache, INetCookies, INetHistory, Microsoft, MicrosoftEdgeTemp
After Win 10 v2001 Cum Update 2020-07 (7/30/2020) on 32-bit systems only:

All folders above except: "Temp" have been moved (to where?)
Edge still works fine!  Was this a security modification to secrete those folders?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts

Hi austen_brain,
We can't help without knowing more about your machine.
---------------------------------------------
Download the OTL Scanner
Please download OTL.exe by OldTimer and save it to your desktop.
---------------------------------------------
Run a Scan with OTL

Right click the OTL icon and choose "Run as administrator" to run it.
If your machine is 64-bit, Check the box at the top, labeled Include 64 bit scans
Check the boxes labeled :
Scan All Users
LOP check
Purity check
Extra Registry > Use SafeList

Make sure all other windows are closed to let it run uninterrupted.
Click on the Run Scan button at the top left hand corner. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.
When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL. (desktop)
OTL.txt will be open on your desktop, and Extras.txt will be minimized in your taskbar.
The Extras.txt file will only appear the very first time you run OTL.
Please copy (Edit->Select All, Edit->Copy) the contents of these files, one at a time, and post them as a reply. Use separate replies if more convenient.

So we are looking for the contents of the two logs from OTL

Hello,
I have been searching forums on Firefox and the web at large to find an actual solution.
The problem:
My search bar has been hijacked by Yahoo, probably in a sneaker add-on or something coming in with a download.  It has taken over my search bar so that I cannot switch back to Google, which is what I had selected in the drop-down menu before the hijacking.  It also forces me (because of this) onto a Yahoo search page for any search I do.
The reason I need expert help:
All the posted solutions I found online for "yahoo has taken over my search bar" talk about removing Yahoo by going to Tools>Add Ons and then simply locating it and removing it.  The issue is though that nothing shows up named 'yahoo.'  I also tried searching my computer for 'yahoo' and removing everything that came up with that name, but the problem persists.  I think that Yahoo put a sneaker/hidden program or add-on or whatever on my machine so that I can't find it to remove it.  This has happened before, and I don't remember exactly how I got rid of it next time.
I trust this community will read this topic post thoroughly and not give me instructions to remove it from Tools>Add Ons, etc., which doesn't work.  This problem requires a higher level of savviness.
Thank you!

Mouse Pointer Disappears in IE when trying to add Google as Default Search Engine and Completely in Chrome. Solutions require IE Performance Troubleshooter which is missing in MS10
Mouse pointer started disappearing in Chrome and no solutions have worked. It appears there is a driver update to MS10 from wch.cn - Ports which I can not roll back without a full restore of MS10 to previous date. At first, changing Chrome:Settings
(turning off hardware acceleration) worked, for about an hour. Giving up on Chrome, started using IE10, but I want to use Google search engine. Cannot add the Google add on so that I can change the default search engine. Symptoms include the mouse pointer
disappearing on any Google page or related page and even using the touch screen, Google add on will not add. This bug (or virus) pretty much prevents use of Google and Chrome and how there is not a solution for this as of yet, by either MS or Google, is beyond
me.

Hello Everyone,

I recently installed Kaspersky 6.0 after my Norton said is was going to expire soon. After i installed it, when ever i would try using windows search all my Windows Explorer windows would suddenly shut down. In addition, my IE shuts down seconds after starting before even connecting to a site. And just recently my MSN Messenger shut down without notice.

I havent fully uninstalled Norton yet and havent activated Kaspersky because these problems sidetracked me.

Comments and Help are appreciated!

Thanks for your time

Hi, I have google search problems where I am redirected to advertising sites. I am not sure if my live messenger problem is also related to my suspected malware problem (after I sign in, Windows immediately claims that a problem has occurred and that messenger needs to be shut down).

I have read the message for new malware threads but gmer doesn't seem to work for me and neither does dds (the former opens but only scans for viruses and does not let me save any logs or whatnot, it shuts down automatically, and the latter flashes open and shut in the space of a millisecond).

I am scanning my computer with ESET NOD32 Antivirus multiple times a day but this does nothing and neither does Windows Update (I check for these updates daily). When the problem started appearing though, I was also getting a lot of Trojans (I permanently deleted the files that appeared with the trojan virus).

I don't know if this helps, but someone on another site was recommending Win32KDiag, so I downloaded it and got the log below (I thought any log would be better than no log).

UPDATE: Tried using hijackthis for another log but Windows does not let me use it, saying that I do not have permission to access this item.

I hope someone can help me. Thank you very much in advance!

now today when i woke up i tried to load up live mail and i got an error message saying it was installed incorrectly or i had run out of space.

I tried to unistall it and the uninstaller failed, i get the 0x8007064c and other messages.

So i couldnt unistall it, nor open it, nor repair it.

I just deleted the folder hoping that would do the job and now when i load up windows live essentials it says that i can install everything again so it must think it has been uninstalled

But when i try to install i get 0x8007064c error

Also for some very very annoying reason my search box in my taskbar just wont show any of my music or films and stuff when i search, it only shows programs and most of the time nothing.

I have a Dell Inspiration One 2020 Desktop. It was working fine and the touch screen, keyboard and mouse all stopped working. I put new batteries in my mouse and keyboard both but that didn't help. It's like my screen is frozen. It comes on but I can't get anything to work. I brought another mouse from another computer and it didn't work either.
Do you think I need to buy another mouse & keyboard but why won't the touch screen work either?

Greetings & Salmenella
The upper memory slot on the motherboard of my Inspiron One 2020 is beeping known stop , two beep intervals. No matter what memory I put in the beeping continues. It only stops if i have one memory stick in the lower slot.
I need help on verifying the correct motherboard to purchase or if there a different Dell mother board that I can upgrade to that will fit in the case housing. I dont mind if I have to make cuts or small holes on the back plate, since I already made holes for a tuner card I bought after I purchased the model that did not have the openings for the TV cable.
I really dont wanna go buy a brand new computer for a bad 4meg memory slot. I have a solid state , the 8 gigs of ram ,and 2 gigs of ramdisk, it runs fast enough that I dont think about buy a new computer. But losing that 4gigs of ram in the bad memory slot. Holy Ding dongs, the hard drive takes for ever to stop making noise, surfing slows down  and compiling and writing visual basic for class takes forever.
Now for the short version.

What is the correct mother board model to replace an Inspiron One 2020 or is there a higher brand model that a mother board will fit my AIO housing and fit  all my computer guts. I have a iCore 5 -2390T cpu.

 Love,
Stu

You can download that from Microsoft (see below).  That said, before reloading the OS, run an extended hard drive diagnotic (F12 at powerup) to rule out the possibility that the drive is faulty and the cause of the problem.

At one point I was told MSSE was bare min for security, so I purchased AVG security suit and it was so restrictive I uninstalled it. Now my MSSE no longer works AND Win 7 has passed end of life Jan 2020...
I tried to reinstall it before EOS, but had an error of "I already have anti malware installed, please uninstall", so I uninstalled MSSE from control panel and I seen I have "malwarebytes(free ver)" installed too, so I tried to uninstall
and had error "can't find uninstal000.dat file"... And Yes, I can search for it, it's just gone... I did find uninstal000.exe, but no .dat
So, I checked the security status tab under action center and it shows that MSSE is ON and working correctly and windows defender is OFF and I can't start WD, can't turn OFF MSSE...
I used current ver of malwarebytes to scan the computer and it found nothing wrong, I also use OutByte Pc Repair to scan/fix things and I think it does a great job on my other machines...
So I guess my questions are:
-How do I remove the malwarebytes entry off installed programs list? I want to Delete the program folder, I don't think the software works any longer because it won't start (passed trial date maybe)... But it still shows as being installed...
-I want to uninstall MSSE and reinstall it. How can I do that? I've tried taking a copy off a working machine and running setup.exe but the error of already having anti malware installed hangs it up...

I was poking around and picked on two links indicating support will run up untill 1/14/20,  hopefully MS will come up with something real nice by then.

A:Win 7 Support good until Jan 14 2020

yep

Mainstream (free, Microsoft-provided) support for Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 installed isn't expiring until January 13, 2015. Microsoft will continue to provide security fixes for Windows 7 for free until the end of extended supprt, which is January 14, 2020 -- unless Microsoft ends up extending that support date, as it did with Windows XP.

Hi, I am using Windows XP SP 2 and I am using a shared computer.
My PC was ok until one day when I tried to open and use the Search function it just shut down immediately. That is also what happens when I try to use Windows Media Player and Yahoo Messenger. I wanted to rollback my computer to a previous state so that I could solve the problem but System Restore shuts down on me too.
My question is, are they related somehow? Was there a program that was modified/deleted that made this happen? Or should I just give up and re-install Windows?
I use Kaspersky Anti-virus btw and it didn't alert me for any virus infection. Thank you.

Hey, just wanted to know what the most powerful, compatible processors are for this system (Inspiron one 2020, LGA 1155 socket, System board: 0MTFWP, BIOS A07) I couldn't find any documentation on the processors that are compatible with this version of the bios. Would an I5 or an I7 work with it?

Hi Charles198

Thanks for writing to us.
The system has been tried and tested with only model of i5 processor. i.e.
I5-2390T
i7 will not work.
But we have come across situations where few of our customers have tried parts that were not tested by Dell, for few it worked like a charm, and for few it was little to no luck.

I just upgraded to a new HP computer and bought a HP 2020 laser jet printer. When I try to do the install with the CD it gets to a certain point and stops telling me that it can't go further because I need to be logged on as administrator. I double checked and I AM logged on as that. I've Googled for answers but can't seem to pinpoint anything.
Have updated my drivers and that didn't seem to help so I'm still stuck.
Does anyone have any solutions for me that might work?
Any help would be most appreciated as it's costing me time and money at this point.
Thanks.
Joe

Hawker, first I'd go to HPs website and download the latest appropriate 32 or 64 bit driver from there. Try temporarily turning UAC off or down then right click on the Setup.exe file for the HP driver and select Run as Administrator. Click the Start button and type UAC into the search box then click User Access Control in the list.

I want to know whether I can use Windows 7 after 14 January 2020 or not.
Is Windows 7 Support System Still Active in 2020?
Any reply will be Grateful.
Thanks and Regards

A:Is Windows 7 Mainstream Support will also end in 2020?

On January 13, 2015, Microsoft will stop mainstream support for Windows 7--which is still an extremely popular operating system. But you'll still be able to use it safely for another five years.
This isn't anything like the run-up to the end of XP support back in April, when everyone in the tech press (including me) warned you about dire consequences if you continued to use XP. That was the end of extended
support, which is far more serious than the end of mere mainstream support.
Once mainstream support ends, there will be no more service packs. Microsoft won't redesign the environment or add new features. Without a special extended agreement, you won't get patches for bugs that don't result
in a security threat.
But if you like Windows 7, you probably don't really need new service packs, and you certainly don't want a redesigned user interface. As long as Microsoft patches vulnerabilities that could become security risks,
Windows 7 remains a safe operating system.
Microsoft doesn't plan to stop fixing security problems in Windows 7 until extended support ends. That's January 14, 2020--five years and a day from the end of mainstream support.
If that doesn't put you at ease, consider this: XP's mainstream support ended in April 2009. It caused no problems whatsoever. Millions continued to use XP for another five years without people like me warning
them of dire consequences. Windows 7 won't be any different.
Vista mainstream support ended on April 10, 2012. Exte... Read more

I'll be doing a new install of Win 10, going from Win 7 on a desktop machine.

Have used True Image 2014 for making images along the way (lots of apps) for not only for when I put in the new system - but for secondary means of backup. Making clones is easiest for me; if anything too serious with the drive crops up then (virus, drive wear, etc.) then I simply plug in a new cloned magnetic.

However I'll now be installing an ssd for the OS.

Checking out reviews of the 2020 version I'm finding quite a bit more negative reviews than my prior version that cite difficulty with install, mounting an image back and more...

Is there anything to be concerned about? Never had I a problem with their 2014 ver.

I'm trying to replace the motherboard in my AIO, Dell Inspiron One 2020. Since I've never done anything like this before, I'm following the User Manual exactly. I just ran into my first problem. The manual simply says "Disconnect all the cables from their connectors on the system board.' Well, that's not been as easy for me as it sounds. I'm hoping someone with prior experience will reply with a tip, trick or suggestion. My problem is I can't get the cables out of the connectors on the motherboard. With the exception of the hard drive and optical drive cables, there's not much to get hold of. I don't see any mechanical catches that need to be released. I assume I should not pull on the wires, just the male connector that is attached to the wires. I assume I should not use tools, but I'm considering the use of needle nose pliers, unless someone can offer me a better suggestion. I hope there's someone out there whose done this before and can offer helpful suggestions. Thanks.

Shelquis,
You just need to sometimes be a little forceful if the cable is stuck. Maybe squeeze the sides of the cable connector when pulling up.
Here are some tools you may need as well.
Phillips screwdriver • Hex nut driver • Plastic scribe
