USB Files corrupted During Windows Xp Install

Q: USB Files corrupted During Windows Xp Install

I recently installed Windows XP Pro on my cpu and during the installation three files were corrupted. All haveing to do with usb. One was usbintel. I dont remeber the rest. I had to skip the intallations of those files to complete install. XP is working just fine but my usb ports do not work at all. Are there any files I could install to make my usb ports work? It says in hardware profiles that there are no drivers installed for this device. Where can i get those files?
Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

My old HD has a corrupted windows 7 and won't let me boot at all. However, I can still access the HD via a dock and all it's folders and files.
What I want to do is transfer the settings and files from that old HD to a new HD with a fresh install. Obviously, Windows Easy Transfer won't work as I can't boot from the old HD. Is there a way or a program that will allow me to migrate from my old HD without having to install anything in it?

A:Migrating Windows settings and files to new install from a corrupted HD

It can be done manually. Be sure to get the data from

C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ApplicationName

and

C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ApplicationName

for each application you want to save your preferences from, and copy directly to you new installation.

Install the applications first though

Windows XP Professional and "corrupted install files" - Solved

Hello. I got a new computer with Windows XP Professional a few days ago. Yesterday I connected it to the Internet and downloaded a few programs, such as UltimateZip, the latest nVidia ForceWare driver, Zone Alarm, AntiVir and the Battlefield 2 demo.

This is the problem: When I tried installing them, none of them worked. I got error messages like "Corrupted install file" and "The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted". The Battlefield 2 demo setup wouldn't do anything if I clicked it - no error messages, no installer window... nothing.

I have been succesful in installing some other programs, though. Ad-Aware and Opera worked just fine. I've never had problems like this on Windows 98. Where do you think the problem is?

Many thanks for any help.

_________

EDIT: I discovered that I had nVidia Firewall on that somehow "corrupted" the downloads. Thanks for your help!

Hi there,
I'm writing this for a friend who cannot do much on his computer at the moment. It is saying that the files are all corrupted and when we attempted to run svc /scannow and look at the log file, after a restart it won't allow us to view said log file saying that the file is corrupted. The command prompt also listed that there were files corrupted that were also unable to be fixed.
He had just gotten rid of Norton Security and installed Avast. Can anyone help us?

So let me explain my story.. it's a long one I have no idea what happened but suddenly I started to get this error out of no where, I've did some research and it could have been the ethernet cable but I switched to wireless and the problem still persists. I don't have this error on my laptop so I know it can't be my net. I bought this desktop which was entirely built by scratch, and after I got it - I seem not be able to get any downloads done. I was able to download flash and chrome that came with it luckily installed, I tried to install firefox/chrome alone but no success (corrupt files). I have BSOD with 5-6 different things but I flashed the BIOS in order to reset the settings. (somehow my CPU was overclocked which probably caused the instability, not sure but I remember I had BSOD's of USB/Memory/SERVER etc. I then began to uninstall everything which surprisingly somehow fixed the issue temporarily and I was able to download once again, thinking the issue would be resolved.. but few hours later, the error has returned and I can't open launchers, extract files from zipes or basically do anything with the file after I download. I'm pretty sure my computer is safe as I'm using MSE/Malwarebytes but still, I have never persisted such problems before. Anyone have any idea what it could be? I got windows up and running for awhile on this new computer I built. Soon, I found out that, I found out XP had corrupted files. After going into XP Setup, and attempting to fix the problems, it still had problems reading files from the XP CD. I was NOT able to do a repair. Half way through a normal installation, it usually gave me the error saying that whatever files were corrupted and could not copy them over... Windows XP may not run properly press <ENTER> to retry and <ESCAPE> to skip file. After hitting <ENTER> over and over a million times to see if it would eventually work, I realized that it was hopeless becuase it had file after file that was bad. When attempting to go BACK into XP setup and doing it all over again INCLUDING reformating I had the same problems. I then realized that my only way to re-format the HD is using the floppy disk that came with the HD. Only problem is that it formated it into FAT-32. This format only took about 10 seconds if that to complete. However, it did remove XP's partitians and allow me to reinstall XP. After XP reformatted my HD BACK into INFT format, again, about half way through SETUP it did the exact same thing. Keep in mind I tried this whole deal about 5 times. I began to suspect the CD-ROM drive as being bad so I switched CD-ROM drives with one that works on my other computer. I made sure BIOS recognized it and all checked all the settings again, hoping that might solve the problem but it didnt. So as of ... Read more

I would also look at RAM. Do you have more than one?You can remove one at a time to see if that makes a difference.

Hello all,

My copy of Windows 7 Home Premium x64 on my laptop has been having some strange issues lately. I cannot run .msi files, and device manager never populates a full list. Sometimes (rarely, but it does repeat) Windows Explorer will freeze, and if I attempt to close it and reopen it using task manager, the UI reloads, but whenever I click on a folder it claims Windows cannot load explorer. Restarting fixes that. I scheduled and ran CHKDSK, and it repaired a few bad sectors, but it didn't fix any of these problems. I have run CCleaner (both the regular cleaner and registry fixer) and defragmented my hard drive until it's only 1% fragmented. I then tried sfc /scannow, and it read a bunch of corrupted files but could not repair them. I read that to fix sfc, you must download and run Windows System Update Readiness Tool. It has been running and "Searching for Updates on this Computer" for about an hour now, and I'm getting concerned that it's just not doing anything. It's not frozen, the bar keeps moving from left to right and I can click on and off of it. I also have the logs from sfc if anyone wants to take a look at them, they'll be attached. The computer isn't very old, and has an intel i3 and 4gb of ram. If you would like any extra information to help, please reply and I'll get back to you as fast as I can Any recommendations on where to go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for any and all help!

Hello,
Over the past few weeks, my Windows files have always been getting corrupted. The hard thing is that it is an error every different time saying that some file is missing. For example, today, I did a system restore. I have done this many times and before I got to the setup screen for windows, I got a blue screen that prompted me to restart my PC and it gave me the same error after I restarted. By the way, I have Windows 8.1. Files also get corrupted on Windows 10 for me. I can't find out what the error is but I suspect it is my SSD because files get corrupted before I even install anything. One example of an error was a memory read error. The weird thing is that I had my old SSD replaced by a warranty 2 months ago and 2 weeks after I received the new one and started it, everything started to get corrupted. I have probably restored my PC 30 times this week...

Try disabling your startup items while in Safe Mode. A good, free, easy to use program for this is StartupCPL by Mike Lin. Download the Standalone .EXE version ( http://www.mlin.net/files/StartupCPL_EXE.zip ) Extract it, then double click on it to run it. Don't just uncheck everything using it - try a couple at a time so that you can remember what you did in case you stop something essential. In the event that you do, then just open up StartupCPL and recheck the boxes that you'd unchecked.

Hello Crimson, and welcome to Sevenforums!

First, what antivirus are you using?

Second, let this scanner run on your computer to search for infected files: Microsoft Safety Scanner - Antivirus | Remove Spyware, Malware, Viruses Free

See if this helps you with any firefox errors: How to Fix Mozilla Firefox | eHow.com

You are never supposed to run 2 or more antiviruses together on a single computer. Also, to remove any antivirus, you may need a special removal tool to make sure you get all the pieces. In addition to your antivirus, consider installing/updating/running (full scan) the free Malwarebytes software. Good thing to have and highly recommended by most people: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebyte...=dl&tag=button

Finally, run this tool to fix system errors: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker - created by Brink

All right, I'll try to give as much information as possible.

1. I have currently two hard drives plugged into my computer that I'll name (A) and (B)

2. Before the problem :
(A) was partitioned half into a windows ultimate 64 bit and half into windows 8 Pro 64 bit
(B) was partitioned into one windows 8 Pro 64 bit partition.

3. I am currently running on (B) but it's connected and I can see (A)'s file and interact with some but obviously not those protected.

So what happened is I started experience some disk usage issue so I did what most forum said

I put the paging file size to my ram

I changed the power settings

I ran a dskchk (no errors found)

I removed the file indexing

I removed the paging file size

Nothing really helped so I thought of unplugging (B) which didn't helped so I thought it might have been the multiple partitions that was causing the problem.

Hello to all.

Some unexpected problem recently caused my windows installation to get corrupted and now I want to simply reinstall it and start anew with a fresh install. However, some important files were in the directory where windows is installed and now I'm having some difficulty in getting them out. The windows installation directory was in the local disk C: .

The problem is that I can't boot normally and in safe-mode. I tried using my windows boot cd to try and repair windows. The commands chkdsk, bootcfg /rebuild, fixmbr and fixboot all did not work. I also tried installing windows in another completely unused drive, which was D:. However, when I try to do this, it says that it is checking the hard disks and freezes when it is checking C:, after which I am left with no option but to restart.

The files are inside a folder in C: Drive, outside the WINDOWS Folder, so I was hoping if I could somehow uninstall windows only but can't figure out how to do that.

Right now, I just need a way to copy that folder in C Drive, put it in any of the other drives (D, E or F) and then reformat and reinstall. The OS is Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.

Is there anyway I can get this done?

Thanks for any help.

A:Need to transfer files. Corrupted windows won't allow me to.

Hi Rydium,

Your best shot might be to make a boot CD that has its own OS self contained. Booting to one of those will allow you to copy your files if they are still readable on the drive.

A BartPE CD or a Linux live CD would do that. Google for those and you'll get plenty of instructions.

There are other ways too but they are command line driven and pretty clumsy for most folks.

There is a possibility that your files will not be visible due to media damage, file system corruption, disk errors, or missing system permissions.

You could also slave the drive in another computer and see if the files are readable.

Good luck. Post back if you have questions.

I notice that after i run these commands in powershell or cmd: sfc /scannow, DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"} .

and run sfc /scannow again, I always get this. . It seems like my windows is always corrupted and I think that is causing my to get start menu, search menu, and task bar issues after standying by.

Anybody know what's wrong with my computer?

EDIT: I have to do a clean install apparently, also the Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register ?$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml?} command broke my apps.

A:Windows files always corrupted even after repairs?

Hi, running the Powershell command has not been recommended since build 10586 (November) came out.. it tends to break apps. You then see @ before their names in the start menu.

To fix this, you are recommended to do an in-place upgrade repair install (you can find instructions in the Tutorials section).

This will:
- keep most of your settings
- keep your programs
- turn system restore off
- restore all Windows apps
- take up to 2 hours
- lose all Windows updates since the last major build (10586)
- create Windows.old

You need a Windows installation medium.

Noted you have a Radeon card: problems have been reported with one dll related to Nvidia cards as regards the cbs .log. You would have to inspect your log to determine what it says.. but that's irrelevant if you do the repair install.

Post back if you still have your other problem.

A:Windows 7 Corrupted System Files

You might want to have a look at this. It appears a recent Windows Update may be the culprit here, based on the files SFC couldn't repair:
utc.app.json
telemetry.ASM-WindowsDefault.json

http://techish.net/cannot-repair-member-file-utc-app-json-microsoft-update-kb3022345-b0rken/
You may want to just uninstall update KB3022345, and try to reinstall it later.

I'm a little more worried by the fact that cmd.exe can't be repaired.
You may have to copy this file from a computer that has the exact same OS version and the exact same hardware architecture.
More on how to do that is here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833#manually%20repair

This is my first post so be easy on me. I am 72 and have been a computer user since the Atari days. I have used all versions of Windows since then and have managed to resolve most problems. Since Windows 8 and 8.1 I spend almost as much time trying to maintain Windows as I do using the computer. I have several corrupted files and have been unable to repair them. I was going to hold out until Windows 10, hoping that it's installation would resolve all issues, but decided I'd better enter the process with a functional 8.1. The corruptions don't seem to effect my programs except for IE 11, which is such a nightmare that have limited my browsing.

I have Windows 8.1 Pro and a HP Envy Notebook. I am able to boot into Windows and had no apparent problems when everything froze up yesterday while working in Quicken. After waiting several minutes with no change and and unresponsive keyboard and touchscreen, I pressed control/alt/del, and I got a (blank) BSOD. After waiting several more minutes, I pressed the button down for several seconds to turn off the notebook, removed battery, reinserted battery and then turned the the notebook back on. After rebooting into Windows, there were no apparent problems. I decided to run sfc scannow and discovered that there are several corrupted files that cannot be repaired. I ran the scan several times, rebooting each time, but the corrupted files persisted. Where do I go from here? Thank you.
BTW, in the Event Viewer there were no application errors. I did see several MCUpdate errors which began on 7/9 (today is 7/14). Again, thank you for any help. I'm not very computer literate, so I have no idea where to go from here and am hoping I do not have to do a reinstallation. I do have the HP rescue discs, however, that I burned when I got the computer, along with a thumb drive that enables me to boot up, although, again, I have no problem booting into windows.
I use Firefox, never Windows Explorer FWIW. Thanx.

Hello, I currently run win 8.1 and my original disc is for win 8.0 as I upgraded via win updates to 8.1. As I was not able to start Win Defender I ran an sfc san from the prompt to see if I had any corrupted sys files. The scan showed I did have corrupt files and that I needed to put my original disc in to fix them. My problem is that my disc is for win 8,0 not 8.1. When I try to use 8,0 I get the error :this disc is not valid".
I know I can create media via windows download center for 8.1 but my download speed is so slow (via cell phone tower) that it never completes. I was just very lucky to get updates for 8.1 via win updates. I live in the Philippines, broadband is just not available here.
I ran the sfc scan and will post the results in an upload. Can you tell from this that my system is ok? If not, how can I repair the bad files without media?
I know defender will not run if another virus program is on the pc. But I uninstalled all other virus programs and it still will not run. I think maybe other virus programs invalidate some sys files when they are installed.
Thanks for any help and advice you can give me.

This issue doesn't come up with my main machine or the other 4 on my network as they can all copy/paste
no worries to the network drives, it ONLY happens to the insider machine. Any ideas people?

hi Gang,

I don't know how it happened, I probably got overly ambitious with a disk cleanup utility and now several functions of windows 7 don't work. New updates don't install, other updates that I DID install are missing, I am unable to run certain games, and I can't run SFC /scannow.

However virus scan updates appear to be fine.

What is the best way to fix this? I have an old backup I did with Norton Ghost on disk but something is wrong with the second disk so I can't use to to reinstall the entire backup but I might be able to extract some old files if I knew which ones to extract.

I am running Window Seven Home Premium. It is a legal copy. I got it directly from Microsoft.

If I try to run SFC /scannow from Windows I cannot get it to show up or do anything. Its like I never did anything. If I try to run SFC /scannow from the boot CD using this command
sfc /scannow /offbootdir=f:\ /offwindir=f:\windows

I get this error messge:

Windows Resource Protection Could not run the repair service
IF I try to run the repair outlined here:

I'm going to put my previous post regarding my problems with corrupted DLL files following a clean install after a major crash. This is for background purposes:
[[Just finished a clean install of Windows XP Home. Computer had black screen with error message. I made several attempts at repairing system using the original install disk. Did multiple malware and virus sweeps. Finally got it working again but it refused to update Windows Security files, constant crashes, hangs, etc. After more repair attempts and malware sweeps gave up and did clean install after backing up my files.

After spending 12 hours on the process of the clean install, installing antivirus software, browsers and security updates, the most recent Windows updates were installed as I restarted (for the 679th time today) whereupon the next bootup was preceded by the computer running CHKDSK on the blue screen. It tried to continue the boot, then went into a cycle of rebooting after the Windows loading screen (before you enter your personal account). Everytime this happened, I saw a blue screen with white type flashing by for a fourth of a second. I couldn't start in safe mode, but I managed to stop the automatic restart and here's what the message on the blue screen said:

STOP: C000007b {BAD IMAGE}

Here's the situation...

1) Computer was running very slowly. I re-booted, thinking that might help.

2) Since that time, it won't boot Windows. I just see the Dell symbol on startup (it's a 1.5 year old XPS 8900 with no serious prior problems) and then it goes to a new screen and says it doesn't have a bootable drive.

3) So...I ran diagnostics (both on my own, and then a Dell tech told me to do the same things). It's supposedly not a hardware problem. Instead, Windows 10 is the issue. So I had them overnight me an installation disk (it came pre-installed, so I didn't have the CD before).

4) It's VERY important to me to save my files if possible. Some are for work, some are family photos...some are backed up, but some from the last couple months are not (I just haven't been diligent enough about that). The computer has two internal drives...1 TB main drive with Windows AND some valuable files on it...and another 2 TB drive which is a backup and where I store most of my photos (my side job is photography so I generate a ton of files every year). I would really love to recover both if possible.

5) Called Dell again tonight after I got the installation disk in the mail, and the tech unfortunately didn't really know what he was doing...after just one failed attempt to reset the computer WITHOUT losing files, he immediately wanted to give up and click the "scorched earth" (delete everything) option. I talked him out of that, and he said the other op... Read more

About half a year ago, give or take, I ordered a Windows 8 OEM disk to install on my laptop. Machine runs fine, even upgrading to the 8.1 Preview and eventually to 8.1, and dual-booting Ubuntu GNOME. Life is good.

The most recent system update, however, continuously fails for some reason, giving me no error messages.
I've tried running sfc /scannow and DISM commands, but both of those fail, saying that there are corrupted system files preventing them from working.

The normal way to fix corrupted system files with Windows 8 would be to Refresh. However, I can't refresh with my install disk because it's not an 8.1 disk. I've tried using the trick with creating a useable ISO file, but that trick fails because the Product Key I'm using is a developer's license, not retail.

Any more ideas without starting from scratch? Thanks in advance.

So windows 8 was trying to install an update like it does every couple days but kept failing and undoing changes, this process had become very annoying due to this being a new laptop, anyway yesterday the update failed but the computer stopped working so i had to switch it off. i turned it back on and it went to 35% download done and then just skipped it.
once i logged on the computer was running like a slug, could barely open anything on the computer.
i ran it in safe mode and spent most of the day trying to figure it out but im not great with computers so i got to the point of making (sfc.details) folder and finding the errors.
im not really sure where to go from here and would really appreciate some help.

thanks in advance.

Hello,
I am having a problem booting my windows xp dell inspiron 700m. When I try to boot windows, it flashes "corrupted or missing boot.ini" for a split second, and then displays the message "System could not locate hal.dll" or something to that effect. I must have corrupted the MBR or the boot record and maybe even the partition tables. I went into windows recovery console, and did FIXMBR and FIXBOOT with no success. It is my understanding that windows recovery console should pull up a list of windows installs to choose from to fix. That did not come up, as it went straight to the C:\ recovery console prompt. Therefore the system seems to be unable to detect a windows install. I confirmed this by trying to use a windows xp upgrade, and it said that it couldn't detect any previously installed versions of windows and therefore would not update.

I can provide further laptop specs on request.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I am having some seriou problems with my Computer.

It started with me not being able to install AVG free 2013 Ani Virus software. I have tried everything suggested from AVG, using their removal tool, and reinstalling several times, nothing worked. I keep getting error codes saying can't write, etc. I am currently running Windows 7 with no Anti Virus software.

I also noticed I am constantly getting script errors while browsing online, and checking emails..I'm getting this all the time, some times very annoying, popping up each time a letter is typed at times.

I also had serious problems logging into, and using this site..it kept saying wrong password and user name when this is not the case. I have deleted temporary internet files, and cookies are allowed for this site. I have used utilities such as Spyware search and destroy, and malware bytes I believe. The problems still exist, except now things are running faster.

I also downloaded HighjackThis, and noticed it said something similar but it let me proceed and it did the scan. I think something emntioned about me having rootkits, or something?. Excuse me for my ignorance.

below I have posted a highjackThis log, and other things that were suggested here to help me fix this. Any help as soon as possible would be great, as I am afraid I won't be online soon!
