I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

That should work according to this document entitled NVIDIA Optimus - ThinkPad Multiple Monitor Configurations:

I'm looking to get my first ThinkPad, and the model I'm currently looking at is the T420. I'm attracted to that particular model mainly due to the price (they can be obtained second-hand at low cost). I don't need a powerful laptop - after borrowing a simularly spec'd Dell for a while I'm perfectly happy with the performance of Sandy Bridge. However, one thing that I do want to be able to do is connect two external monitors to the ThinkPad. When both monitors are connected to the ThinkPad I won't be using the internal display, the ThinkPad will be away in a dock. However, both monitors are VGA only. There are various docks available for the T420 that have a VGA port on them, and the T420 also has a built-in VGA port. Will I be able to run two VGA monitors (not mirrored, extended desktop), one from each VGA port? Kind regards,Andrew

So i have a HP HDX16t with a 512MB Geforce 9600M GT video card running Win7 64bit Home Premium. The laptop has a VGA and an HDMI output. I currently have an external monitor (19" ViewSonic VX900) hooked up to the VGA output. Does anyone know if i can hook my second external monitor (also ViewSonic VX900) up as well through the HDMI port? The VX900 has VGA and DVI-D inputs, so i would definitely need an HDMI to DVI adapter (which i don't have currently). I have searched around on this, but havn't been able to find anything conclusive. Nvidia's 9600m GT page is sorely lacking in details.

I know i could set this up by buying a Matrox DualHead2Go adapter as well, but i was hoping to avoid spending an extra $200 that i would rather put into upgrading my aging monitors. Also the apparent downside to the DualHead2Go adapter is that i would need to place both monitors on one side of my laptop vs one on either side (as i had hoped to do).

My work purchased a Yoga 900-13ISK and two external monitors with HDMI and the traditional VGA inputs. I would like to connect the machine so I can run two external monitors simultaneously when I'm working from home. Sorry, I can't help fix your issue, but I wanted to let you know that you are not alone!  We have 7 Elitebook 840 G3's wth Windows 10 on the 2013 UltraSlim Dock as well, and they are all doing the same thing.  Both external displays will go black for a few seconds periodically throughout the day.   We are using HP EliteDisplay E242 displays for all except one user, who has ASUS displays, and they all have the same issue, so the display itself does not appear to be the issue. The VGA port seems to work fine, so this points to the Display Ports/driver being the issue.  I have tried all available driver updates, but nothing has resolved the issue. We are looking for a solution to this issue as well.

I have a ThinkPad S1 yoga bought in Dec 2013. I have being using the mini hdmi to work of 1 external 1080p monitor these last few years and it has worked fine. I now want to add a new second 1440 x 2560 along side my 1080 x 1920 monitor for a dual monitor set up. (Mostly for spreadsheets, emails, web browsing etc.) I do not mind if one of these duplicates my laptop screen. I was going to get the onelink dock to enable me to do this however I am not sure if it will work. I know the resolution with dual monitors running off the dock is limited at 1200p. What I now want to do is use the mini hdmi on my laptop for one monitor and the onelink dock for the other, however I want to be sure it will work before I go and buy the monitor and dock. Alternatively I could buy an USB 3.0 to hdmi adapted to run the 1080 monitor and a usb hub for the extra usb's I will need. (I think the dock will use less processing power and would be a slicker set up so I imagine it would be better?) You?re  help would be appreciated as I have read there can be issues trying to get higher resolution monitors to work.

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 laptop with a E-Port Plus II port replicator connected to two external monitors using DisplayPort which will not output to multiple monitors.
I have another Dell model and when placed on the port replicator with two external monitors connected, booting into BIOS/UEFI the screen is cloned onto each monitor. However, when doing the same with a brand new Dell Latitude E7450 only one screen is active - the other is off. Within Windows itself, I can only have 1 monitor connected to the port replicator. If I undock, I can run 3 monitors independently indicating an issue with the dock rather than a hardware limitation with the laptop itself.
I believe the above tests eliminates the OS or driver issue and highlights a compatibility issue between the new Dell Latitude E7450 laptop and E-Port Plus II port replicator. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with the same results. I have also updated both the graphics drivers (Version 10.18.14.4170, A16) and the BIOS (Version A04) to the latest releases. I have also tried using DVI cables as well as swapping out the port replicators. Nothing works. In Windows 8.1 itself, it actually shows as two monitors active, but one is not on. If I swap out the monitors to a different brand, I get the same result.
Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting I need to change? Is there a newer port replicator or update I need?

A:Dell Latitude E7450 compatibility with E-Port Plus II with external Dual DisplayPort monitors

Did you resolve this issue and, if so, how? I have the same laptop (but running Windows 10) and the same docking station with the same results.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

A:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

For a few years I have been working with an HP Elitebook 8460p to which I connected an external drive, a Western Digital Element 2042. Working just fine. A few months ago I purchased a Thinkpad T420 and I thought that connecting the external drive would be a piece of cake but unfortunately no. So far I have been been enable to do so and I can't figure out why. When booting the drive doesn't show up in the drive's list.
I have been trying just about each port on my Thinkpad and none worked, the actual cable and port seem to work as the light at the back of the drive are on.

I know for a fact that the drive works, I just fired off my HP Elitebook 8460p again to make sure it was indeed still alive and it is fine. I can see it on my HP's boot menu and in the HP's disk management details. But not on my Thinkpad T420.

I used an enclosure with another drive to make sure the USB ports on my Thinkpad T420 are ok and this works fine. I also changed the drive's letters.

If the ports on the Thinkpad is fine if the external drive is fine, why then my external drive is not recognized by my T420 thru the USB port ?

This is the external drive's information as they are shown on the HP

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

I was looking at the Vista help files and it says to use the keyboard shortcut that turns on monitors to get to the New Display Detected dialogue box to set up the undetected display. I guess you'll have to figure out what that is. It say that FN + F5 combination typically works on mobile pcs. You might give that a try.

Are you plugging into a graphics card? Does anything at all happen when you plug in the monitor, e.g., does Windows tell you it doesn't recognize the device.

Ok...I have a Radeon 9600XT with the vga and dvi out. What i want to do is hook my regular monitor up to the vga out and hook my big screen HDTV up to my DVI out. My tv has a dvi in as well so no need for adapters, just a straight up dvi-d cable. Most of the time i will just be using my regular monitor, but every now and again i would like to switch to the tv on command. So i got it all hooked up, but it seems like both displays are being picked up as primary monitors/displays which causes problems because i need the tv at a lower resolution than my regular monitor and if i switch in between the two all my display settings are the same for both. I want to be able to set it where the display settings stay unique to each of the displays. Is this possible? I have all the latest ATI drivers and it seems possible to me, but i've been just having a tough time with it. If anyone could please walk me through this it would greatly be appreciated. Even easier, connect the second monitor to the video card, no need for the onboard video. The only way the monitors being a different size is if you set them to clone mode (both display the same thing, a waste of time unless you're doing presentations or something). Just set the second monitor to extended mode and you should be good to go.

It might be possible to create an autoit program to do this.
It would require a lot of skill and computer knowledge patiance and willing to learn some programing if your up for it. see this link. AutoIt 3.0
THe easiest way is to set it up to simulate mouse clicks and keystrokes. You use note pad to write the script and save it as .au3
A list of functions can be found here Functions
You can also use a nifty little gadget included called AutoIt Window Info which provides you with details about the enviroment your working in.

Other than that i dont know of any other programs

I have 2 monitors. My main one is to my right and the other is to my left. I have to drag to my right inorder to go to the monitor on my left. I want to drag to the left where my second monitor is at? I don't seem to be able to do this can anyone help?

A:Dual Monitors

Right click an open spot on the desktop and select Resolution. Where it shows the monitors listed as 1 and 2, just drag the one you want to be on the left.

I have an Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition laptop. I currently use 1 monitor, but I am thinking about expanding. Would a HDMI splitter work for the 1 HDMI port I have, or would I have to use the USB C port for one monitor and the HDMI for another?

What is the least expensive way to add a second monitor, not including cost of monitor

A:Dual monitors

All you need to add a second monitor is a graphics card with at least two display ports (which most do). Two DVI connections is recommended but you can use DP or HDMI as well. The desktop can be configured and arranged after through your video card's control panel.

I have dual monitors installed on a computer at work. I have been trying to get the monitors to work together. The right monitor is working like a dream and the other one just sits there with no picture. The computer will find the monitor thats not working but the computer cannot identify it. All that I have been trying to do is extend the screen to both monitors for use. I have tried switching cables, switching video cards and nothing really seems to work. My next guess was to go into the registry, but figured i would see if I could get a reply faster here. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

A:Dual Monitors?

Would help to know the make and model of the monitors, how they are each connected, and to what video card they are connected to.
