Quicklaunch Buttons

Q: Quicklaunch Buttons

This should be a pretty simple. I want to use my quicklaunch buttons on this HP Pavilion zv5000 to open my music folder instead of my default music player. Couldn't get it to do it with the browse function, but it had a command line available too. So I just typed in C:\Musick\ and it opens, except it opens in my default web browser... firefox. Not what I want. Any ideas on a command I could put in to get it to open in a regular browser window?

Or conversely I could point it to a .bat file I created, but same question, how would I tell that to open a browser and browse to C:\Musick\ ?

Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have an HP dv6401 with vista and I cannot seem to adjust settings for my Quicklaunch (buttons above keyboard that launch quickplay, change tracks, and adjust volume) buttons. I just want to turn the sound off when I press them, or even better - change them. I can see an applicaion in the add/remove list, but cannot locate a program or settings on my computer.

My girlfriend has a special edition version (with white lid) and her buttons don't make any sounds, so I think it is a possibility.

Any help is useful!

Hello,

I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 32 bit running vista currently. I want to upgrade to windows 7, but the compatibility program said that the quick launch buttons wouldnt work properly. I searched around and looked on HP's website to see if there were drivers for the upgrade but I havent found anything.

Would anybody know
1) if my quicklaunch buttons would indeed not work if I installed Windows 7
2) What I need to do to get them to work?
3) Do I need to do it after or before I install Windows 7?

Thanks!

PS I am no computer genius so layman's terms would be appreciated.

Hello! I am having a problem, and I also have a little keyboard question:

1. When I logon, explorer.exe freezes, and I need to do Ctr-Alt-Del to get Task Manager, end explorer.exe, and start it back up again for it to fully logon! Why is that? (I installed some crapware, idk if it's the culprit because it was some random DJ app that I found)

2. On my Hewlett-Packard G62 340US, there are 5 quick-launch buttons on the keyboard. They are (in order from top to bottom):

a. Email app
b. Media app
c. Default Internet Browser (mine is Opera)
d. Print button
e. Calculator

I erased my HD the second I bought it becuase I didn't want to deal with all the trialware and crud. I borrowed a legal disk of Win. 7 Home Premuim X64 (the system it shipped w/ originally) and you can guess the rest. (I used the code on the bottom of my laptop). So now my laptop doesn't have functions for the top 2 keys. I want to rig the Media button to open the 'Computer' page when I press it. So far I've Google'd to no avail, and the HP key changer thing from the website doesn't do anything!

HELP!!

If anyone has acces to the connections/schematics for the M4600 touchpad/button assembly, I'd love to see them! For some reason both the right buttons have stopped working. Tried to disconnect/reconnect  the 14 pin "touchpad cable from the mainboard, but unfortunately this did not do the trick. Need to look a bit deeper - so would love to see the schematics or at least the pinout of the connector(s)... (It's a button - how hard can it be to fix... ;-)

Several times now, when I start my computer, everything seems normal. But when I try and click on the start button, a quick launch button or a task bar button - NOTHING HAPPENS. I just get a ping sound from my speakers.
Sometimes a restart fixes the problem and sometimes I have to turn the computer off and then on again to get it to work correctly.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and what I can do to fix it.

Thanks

Hi everyone. New here (though I had 3 posts on the sevenforums )

I have setup my Windows 8 to skip all the metro crap and basically go to a desktop, where I installed POkki for a start menu which isn't bad, and also made a quicklaunch toolbar again. It's just like 7 now except it boots way faster !

I'm having the problem where whenever I shut down my computer, the next time I log in the quicklaunch has condensed to one icon and a little button that expands it upwards. I have to unlock the taskbar, resize it so it shows my 6 or 7 icons, and then lock the taskbar again.

Now, I don't want to pin everything to the taskbar, because those icons are more spaced out and I don't like how it looks. I wants my quicklaunch

So, can I have my cake and eat it too, does anyone know how to stop that quicklaunch toolbar from shrinking every time?

A:Quicklaunch!

Hello csand, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Double check to make sure that you used the same method as in the tutorial below to add Quick Launch on the taskbar.

Quick Launch - Add to Taskbar in Windows 8
Could you post some screenshots of what your Quick Launch looks like before and after shutting down or restarting the computer to see if anything may stand out as a cause?

My quicklaunch icons are now much bigger than they should be, this has happened overnight and I dont know what has caused the problem...

I have tried changing the settings, the only option that works is to change the font size in windows. The icons on quicklaunch are then the correct size, but the text along the top of the windows is very small and the maximise/minimise/close buttons are tiny. Also, this setting does not last... having found that solution, I turned on my pc today to find that the settings are back how they were and the quicklaunch icons are once again oversized.

Any ideas??

When I finished this install, I deleted the default shortcuts from the quicklaunch area, with the intention of putting my own shortcuts in there.

Well after a reboot, quicklaunch was gone not only from the toolbar, but from the options list for toolbars.

So I rebuilt it per the tutorial, but now I can't drag it all the way to the left.
It effectively only scrunches all the open windows into a one inch area.

Another method, right click on taskbar, select properties, choose taskbar tab under taskbar buttons select never combine from the drop down list. To manually add desired shortcuts to quick launch right click on shortcut in start menu or all programs and choose Pin to taskbar from context menu

This isn't a burning issue, however I would like to ask two related questions if I may. The first concerns the terms 'add (icon) to taskbar' and 'add (icon) to quick launch toolbar' do they both achieve the same result ie launch a program, and secondly if I have both 'Bars' with very many entries on each will it effect the overall performance of the laptop, I have 4GB Ram. Thanks.

A:taskbar = quicklaunch.

'add (icon) to taskbar'

add (pin) a single item (program/shortcut) to taskbar

'add (icon) to quick launch toolbar'

add one or more items within a folder and quick launch toolbar will display these items in a menu.

Example: 3 single items and 7 quick launch tool bars

Hi, I've got a strange problem with my win xp recently. After running my pc for a while, i noticed the the icons in my quicklaunch bar keep disappearing and appearing again, at about 10 seconds interval. When i check my task manager, the cpu usage jumps from normal to 100% and back again. It just keeps going on like this. I also noticed that the entire task bar and desktop icons disappear and appears in the same interval too.

Is it due to explorer.exe keeps on restarting/crashing itself? I closed all my applications when this problem appears but it still persists.

Right click a blank spot on the taskbar and make sureLock the taskbar is not checked then move the mouse arrow slowlt toward the top edge of the taskbar when it changes to a double arrow left click and hold while you drag the bar up....it should increase in size...then do the same thing with the divider between the quick launch area and the programs section and drag it to the left to make two rows.

left click and hold a blank spot on the taskbar while moving the mouse towards the middle of the right side...all of a sudden the bar will jump to the right

lots of ways to customize the taskbar

I have a shortcut in my QuickLaunch bar that invokes an Autohotkey script that, among other thing, runs a program using the RUN command. Sometimes there is a long (15 second) delay before the RUN command is executed. If I put a display statement before the RUN, it appears instantly, and then there is the delay before the output of the executed program appears.

The delay occurs regardless of which program is invoked by the RUN command.

If the script is invoked directly, or via any other (i.e. non-QuickLaunch ) shortcut, there is no delay.

If I disable my antivirus (360 Total Security) there is no delay. I never had the problem before I installed this AV.

I've tried including all relevant components (my script, Autohotkey) in the AVs Trusted list, but to no avail. I am not seeing anything in the AV logs that references anything relevant.

The delay may disappear suddenly after the script is invoked several times, and then reappear at some later time.

Other shortcuts in my QL do not exhibit the problem.

So, one would have to point a finger at the AV. But it still would not explain why the problem goes ON and OFF, nor how to fix it.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello,

I had been having very slow response using Chrome as my browser, so I decided change browsers.  During the course of  doing this it appears that something went wrong.

When I restarted my computer, I found that any QuickLaunch item that accessed the INTERNET did not work (except for one.). I received an error message that showed the URL associated with the QuickLaunch icon was garbage.  When I checked the "Properties" associated with the icon, it contained the proper URL.

I did a system Restore from about a week ago, and that did not work.  After the Restore, when I tried a QuickLaunch item, I received a different Error Message :"Unable to find locale (That is the spelling in the Error Message.) data files. Please reinstall."  I attempted to undo the Restore, but received a message that this Restore could not be undone.

My goal of course is to get the QuickLaunch icons to work correctly.  Any help would be most appreciated.

Thank you,
Robert

A:Some QuickLaunch Icons Corrupted

You may have malware given that Chrome was sluggish before the fun began.  Do some scans or confirm what you have already done.
I think I would remove existing icons, remove the Quick Launch altogether and add it back.  Then add new apps and see if they work.  XP seems to have a few hiccups with the Task Bar.

Is there an easy way to arrange the icons in the QuickLaunch Toolbar.

It is possible to move icons, but putting them where you want them (next to a specific icon) is not easy. One of the most difficult, is to try and change to 1st icon for one of the others. You cannot easily predict what will happen.

I have a case where I want to place the icon at the bottom, next to an icon from the same prog half-way up the list. (I keep mine on the left hand side of the screen)

I've searched the registry and cannot find an entry there. Not sure where else to look. Any suggestions welcome

Howdy folks

I added a couple of IE shortcuts to the QL toolbar and, initially, they displayed their FAVicon icon.

They no longer do, now they just reverted to anIE icon, not the web site's FAVicon.

Any idea how to make these "sticky"? A bunch of IE shortcut icons is no way to find what I want!

Thx

A:FAVicons not sticky in QuickLaunch toolbar

It used to be that Internet Explorer favicons could be copied from the Temporary Internet folder to a "safe' location and linked to through the "change icon" option on the properties page of your shortcut.

http://www.worldstart.com/tips/tips.php/1284

However as near as I can tell a recent security patch has made these .ico files dissappear or go into disguise.

If you do find favicons in your temporary internet cache and want to preserve them, copy them out of there.

I'm trying to get my first win 7 system set up. And quite frustrated. I've found the usual "large Icon / Small Icon" setting. It's already on small for the task bar. Those are the size I want, just like I had them in XP. After a lot of confusion & searching I finally found I had to enable quicklaunch, and did so. But the smegging icons are 2-3 times the size of the task bar ones. Secondary annoyance I have: I prefer the task bar vertically on the left of the screen. It won't get nice and narrow like it did in win XP. Is there any fix for this? Thank you, Dave

Hello Dave, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing this to help ID any possible unknown issues.

You should be able to use step 7 in Option One of the tutorial below to use small icons in Quick Launch. Quick Launch - Enable or Disable
The taskbar will not be as thin when moved to a side than it was on the bottom of your desktop. About all you can do is resize the taskbar as thin as will allow. Taskbar - Resize

This is probably a stupid questions. I just installed XP x64 and I can't figure out how to get that convenient little icon onto my quick launch that automatically minimizes all the windows. I know the keyboard shortcut is win-D, but I'm accustomed to the icon. Anyone know?

Thanks!

A:Clear desktop quicklaunch icon?

Right click on the taskbar and select Toolbars and then make sure Quick Launch is clicked.

If you lost the icon itself see these instructions to restore it.

Hello,
I have Windows XP SP3,
I have been facing this problem ever since I installed it on this computer,
I cannot get quick launch or Windows Media Player toolbar to start automatically every time I logon. I have to do it manually.
I know it has been discussed here (at least the quick launch problem), but I am yet to find a solution - I already tried running "IE4UNIT.exe", re registering shell32.dll and browserui.dll. Also, the quick launch folder is there in my profile in "C:\documents and settings\[User Name]\application data\microsoft\internet explorer".
I am completely clueless as to how to fix this. I also tried a repair install but to no avail, also, I can't get these toolbars to start even if I create a new user.
Thanks in advance for any advice.
-Kush.
