Unable to reinstall windows 7 home prem? Windows glitch?

Q: Unable to reinstall windows 7 home prem? Windows glitch?

So I recently bought a Lenovo desktop that came with windows 7 pre-installed - I guess I havn't logged on this computer for a couple of months so it was kind of a surprise for me when i turned it on 2 days ago and it all of a sudden said " This copy of windows is not genuine " ? I've only had the thing for 5-6 months... Did the windows 7 home prem already expire, or? It keeps asking me to "Activate windows now" since the "Activation period has expired" - It doesn't make any sense though because I never had this problem before... I tried contacting customer support but there's no phone number anywhere... apparently you have to download a program which finds your serial number for you then you can call, but the program won't download for me - it just says " Failed " - Does anyone know the customer support phone number? Or Does anyone know how to reinstall windows on a "Pre-installed system" ? Thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I recently scrapped a old laptop, and kept the Windows 7 Pro produkt key. My desktop has a windows 7 home premium edt.

I wish to change to pro, but without reinstalling, and without losing the home premium. Is it possible to switch the pro and home edt. without reinstalling, or losing my home prem. key?

(It seems i posted in wrong section first. sorry)

A:Change windows 7 product key WITHOUT reinstall [Home prem. -> Pro]

You cannot use an OEM Product Key on any computer but the one it came with. If the Pro Key you have came from the original computer's COA sticker, or from a KeyFinder, then it's OEM, and CANNOT be transferred to the mew machine.

Is this the Win7 that came preinstalled on the laptop? If so then the license is not transferable.

If it's the desktop you want to upgrade to Pro, you can insert the Pro key into Anytime Upgrade to unlock the few extra expensive features in Pro that few consumers need. Windows Anytime Upgrade - How to - Windows 7 Forums. Otherwise it is the exact same OS.

Save a Win7 backup image externally both before and after the Upgrade so you have options to restore both later which will maintain their activation. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

Hi, Thank you for posting in the HP Support forum. Welcome! To my knowledge, HP does not ship computers with Office preinstalled with Office full features licence included. Computers do come with some trial version or some temporary license but not with permanent licensed software for MS Office. Please, clarify - what was your Office edition/version - e.g Office 2010 Professional ?Where you have your key from ? Was it Office 2010 Started edition with some limited edition of Word/Excel ? What is your HP computer model ?

Hi all

I think I'll go crazy i some minutes...
The computer of my parents is full with several viruses. So the easiest way to clean the comouter is, to make a new setup and rei stall Windows.

So I inserted the original Windows 7 install DVD, and set the DVD to the first position in BIOS. But when it starts from the DVD, there is only a black screen with a small "ED" on the right bottom of the screen. And that for minutes! Wtf??

So istarted the old to replace Windows and started it over the explorer. This works. But when I came to the screen where I can chose the partition, i'm unable to format the hard disk, because of missing drivers. Where is this?
So i installed it on a other free partition and it worked. But i keep having all the trash on the hard disk. So i tried to format the partition over the explorer. But it dont work.

So please help me, im going crazy! How can i reinstall this??

I've Windows 7 Ho e Premium x86

Whenever I try to Re-install windows 7 (From Disc) I get the following error along with it saying this "Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart in the installation."

This happened every time on the same process (Expanding Files) on installation with multiple disks (Burned via Imageburn at 4X Speed) I tried different images most of which I just found across the internet and I got one from Digitallife recommended from this guide and I got the same results as all the other images I tried, getting stuck at Expanding Files (Around 2 or 3% is where it pops up with the Error).

If it helps how I got to reinstalling Windows is cause whenever I tried to boot up it would just reset once I got to my desktop every time, tried things like safe mode same result so I just ended up Formatting the Drive and attempting to reinstall windows and then I find this error blocking my progress.

Anyways is there a solution to this problem?

Thanks For Reading.

A:Cannnot Reinstall Windows 7 Prem. 64 - Error 0X8007045D

Start by wiping the HD first with Diskpart Clean Command.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

Next reset BIOS to defaults, set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.

Try install with only 2gb RAM. Test your RAM - Test with Memtest86+ . Swap RAM sticks.

Next write the ISO to flash stick using Universal USB Installer, set HD first to boot in BIOS and trigger stick using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key - to rule out the installer as cause.

I have a Win 7 Family pack Home Premium Upgrade edition. I bought it new and have had exclusive control of it. The 32 bit version is installed on two computers, self built, replacing XP. One of the computers had a HD crash. I first tried a system repair disc and installing a system image. When these did not work I tried to reinstall Win 7 on that HD, but Win 7 would not install on the HD and delivered a message that there was a HD problem. I installed a new SSD but no other equipment changes were made, other that disconnecting the other two HDs for purposes of the reinstall. Windows installed nicely from a flash drive, but is giving a message that the product key is incorrect.
I would appreciate insight on how to proceed. Thanks!

A:Prod key rejection on reinstall after HD failure- home prem family pac

Hello TMac, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What's the full error message?

Double check to make sure that you are entering the product key correctly. It's real easy to mistake say a 0 (zero) for an O (letter) etc.....

If it's just failing to activate online, then you might see if it may activate by phone instead.

Hope this helps for now,

Hello guys,

A month back i purchased an SSD for my old HP envy laptop(purchased in 2010).
I removed the old harddrive and chuked in the ssd in its place and reinstalled the windows home prem x64 edition using the the key extracted from my windows installation on my old harddrive.

Everything seemed to be running well then and windows update downloaded a ton of updates since then

But suddenly since yesterday i kept getting the "copy not genuine error" windows build 7601

I ran check disk and it showed no errors.
Is there a way to make my copy of windows run on my ssd properly ?
I still have the one installed on my old harddisk (currently its lying around without being used ..probably it will run fine if i chuck it back in place of ssd - but i want to use my ssd)

Ohh and for ssd optimization i stopped quite a few services like indexing , system restore , date stamping and what not .. i dont remember all could this be the reason for genuine verification error ??

Also i ran a malware check using the malwarebytes soft - a quick scan turned up nothing.

You reinstalled using a retail disk and the key you got with a KeyFinder (which is only valid when used with the manufacturer's Recovery media).
You need to change the Key to the one on your COA sticker on the machine's case -you may need to activate by phone.

Hi, and many thanks to anyone who can help me with this

Once you've had a look at the problem, do you recommend I buy a new SATA Hard Drive and retry the Windows XP installation?

I have been using Windows XP Home Edition on my Aries PC for several years without any problems, then it started freezing and BLUE screening intermitantly until it became unusable. I decided to reinstall Windows XP from scratch using the supplied recovery CD.

I am currently trying to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition (sp unknown) onto my (old) Aries PC but it does not seem to be recognising the hard disk drive (250Gb Maxtor SATA Raid drive).

I have tried the reinstall several times. The time before last it got to where I could repartition and reformat the drive (NTFS). I waited (for hours, NOT using Quick Format) until this was 100% complete then got to the same situation I am in now.

I have configured the PC to boot up from the DVD RW Drive and I have a floppy disk with the Raid Driver on it.

Below is the sequence of events leading up to the problem in 'Windows Setup'...

Ok so my original computer was a Windows 7 Home Premium and that's the PC I used to work. I had REMOTE DESKTOP on it, it worked fine and yes it was a Windows 7 Home Premium..but yesterday my original pc got fried and smoke came out of it so I am afraid to turn it on.

I am now using my back pc, it is also a windows 7 home premium build 7600, and I remember I use to have remote desktop on it but I right clicked disabled one day a long time ago and after that I was never ever able to get it back. Ive been reading online that Windows 7 home premium does not have the remote desktop option, odd because my other pc had it. Point is.. I need to connect to my job's server asaaap, but I am unable to find a way to connect to their server, I have their ip address and a special login/pass the same way you do in windows remote desktop.

I have tried downloading those rdp patches and stuff and it just does not work! I cannot find the remote desktop anywhere even have the install said "listening" and "remote desktop successfully" etc etc.

Is there a program I can use to connect to my work's server..my boss uses windows 7 remote desktop,,,

I tried using teamviewer and added the ip address but it doesnt work idk if you have to both be using the same program..please in need of help here :/

I have a 2 yr old dell tower with windows home premium, I kept getting chkdsk error messages and upon bootup oneday it just said there was no drive found. I put in a new hard drive and used my dell recovery discs to get windows installed fresh day one again, running like a champ now, but I wanted a few files off that other drive so I put it onto and external usb dock and was able to go right in get everything I wanted safely off it.

Once I had my data off it I decided to just format the drive, after formatting it I ran seagates hard drive tool it passes every short and long test I threw at it, I know it kept saying chkdsk but could that have just been something corrupt within the windows installation not the physical disc being damaged?

At this point I have run the seagate tool 2x for short and once for long test and now have it running an extended test via another program called DiskCheckup.

Hate to toss the drive but not sure if all those chkdsk errors were just software related or hardware related, any other tests or things I should do to this to confirm the drive is ok to use? It's a 1.5tb seagate barracuda so i sure could use it for some internal storage but I don't want to risk it if it's a hardware issue.

Thanks for the advice.

A:Win7 Home Prem - chkdsk problems, Drive Bad or Just Reinstall Needed?

It would appear that the drive is running fine now, but may have intermittent hardware issues. Personally, I hate to throw away a drive as well. If it were mine, I would use it as a mobile drive (usb dock) for a while to see if any issues arise. Of course, I wouldn't put any files on it that I didn't have on another drive, or on a cloud of sorts.

One thing that I always do whenever I suspect a drive has hardware issues is put my ear up to it. Usually, you can hear a hiccup in the drive, or a ticking, when the drive itself is bad. This may or may not be found by software that checks the disk.

I have two machines: Win XP pro and Win Vista home prem hooked up to the same workgroup. I have a share on the Win XP machine that I wish to access using the vista machine. However, whenever I double click on the win xp machine in the win vista network window, I am always prompted for a password.

I did a little research and found that a possible cause could be that both machines should have an identical username/passwrd combination. Well I did this and I still cannot get any access. I log into both the win xp and win vista machines with the same username/password and it is still prompting for the password to access the win xp comp. When I enter the username/password into the prompt, it says that it is incorrect.

Please help.

A:Windows XP pro + Windows Vista home prem workgroup

Just a quick thought since no one else answered, but did you try logging in as an admin?

Then put your password into the prompt. That would give you the whole hard drive, and even if it's a lousy security practice, I've found it to be useful for resolving these nasty password problems. Not sure why that works, but it sometimes has for me.

Also, obviously, if your password is <null>, you can't login at all as far as I know. It's just a ground rule for Windows right now.

If you received a DVD with office the number is on the sleeve. If not call the MFg of your computer.

It seems that they want the number for office, not the OS.

Good afternoon peeps ,I have my brothers pc with me as it's hard drive has gone pop. Being in his 60's he hasn't any recovery media. I have pumped the product key into microsoft for a copy of the iso but it refers me to HP for it. How can i get a link for the correct iso file to rebuild his machine please. Thanks very much

A:Windows 7 Home prem iso

You cannot. HP has no .isos for download. Microsoft used to publish Windows 7 OEM .isos on its "digital river" site until maybe just under 2 years ago when they took it down. You can look on eBay and maybe just online for a recovery disk for your specific model which you see for sale for maybe $40, or you can take a walk on the wild side and look for Digital River mirror sites for Windows 7 .isos. They are out there and for the most part trustworthy but they are not official and Microsoft does not like us to post specific links for you.

Digital River no longer exists to download from.
My ASUS recovery media does not work, producing the error "Cannot load imagex 0 from src WIM file." According to the posts I've found on other help forums (incl. ASUS' forums), the two answers were to update the BIOS to resolve the problem, or send it to an ASUS repair center. The BIOS update did not work, and I do not have the luxury to ship my computer for repair.
An OA disc image and installation, using the legal key on the bottom of my laptop, seems to be my next logical step. All resources I've found during my searches point to Digital River links which no longer function. The MS page for software recovery says I need to speak to my manufacturer for recovery media. The recovery media I paid for, as already stated, does not work.
Can someone please provide me with a link to this legal iso, so that I can get a clean install on my machine and resume work?

A:Windows 7 Home Prem OA iso availability?

There are no longer any legal links to the Windows 7 OEM iso. You need a retail key in order to download the iso from Microsoft's website. Because you would be downloading a non-OEM disk, you would be required to use phone activation. Using the key on the COA sticker is no longer valid for activation. Microsoft stopped accepting those keys awhile ago. Backup your Activation files and key using the Advanced Token Manager. If you can find a retail iso, install using the key found by the Advanced Token manager and then use it to activate the OS.
If you still have the recovery partiion on the HDD tap F9 at boot to bring up the recovery manager.

You ask a common question for which you will receive varying opinions and recommendations. There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware. In many cases choosing an anti-virus is a matter of personal preference and what works best on a particular system. You may need to experiment and find the one most suitable for your needs. Please read:Choosing an Anti-Virus ProgramHere are links to some recent BC discussion topics with opinions from other members:Best Antivirus?Best anti-virus software for windows 8?Looking for recommended anti-virus softwaresWhat is the best antivirus protection? What's the best premium security suite in the market currently? Here are links to BC polls:Poll: Best Antivirus and FirewallPoll: Best Anti-Spyware/Anti-Malware/On-Demand ScannerI generally recommend ESET NOD32 Anti-Virus or Emsisoft Anti-Malware as they leave a small footprint...meaning they are not intrusive and do not utilize a lot of system resources. My brother and I think it is a power settings issue, but it shouldn't shut off while in use should it ? It wont even UPDATE through windows updates because of this, updates get canceled outright because of the thing shutting off while in use.
EDIT: I currently dont have access to the machine in question, so a step by step guide on what to do would be quite helpful

Years ago,I had a problem with my HDD and i gave it back to the store and they changed it WITHOUT to inform me .
The problem is that they installed NOT original windows, and i didn't notice it.
When i tried once to recover my laptop, i realized that there wasn't even the recovery partition.
I would like to ask if it is possible to retrieve, somehow, the Windows CD Key using the S/N of my laptop.

There was a sticker at the bottom of my laptop with the CD Key , but it is not visible anymore.
Thanks in advance.

Emachines desktop t2698 running WinXP Home Premium; 1.5 gig ram and 500 gig Hard Drive.

My problem - unable to load Norton Security Suite that comes free from Comcast. After spending hours with escalated manager at Norton, they tell me there is maybe a permission problem (Win XP) and I need to reformat the C drive and reload Windows XP Home Prem. I roll my eyes when a troubleshooter says this because it typically means that he does not know what to do and is grasping at straws.

I think Norton is just guessing. They uninstall the old attempts to load Norton, then try to install again and it always gets to the very end then says "Installation failed - there was an attempt to clean up your files and you should try again"... (close to that in any event). Norton says the error log tells them that this is a permission problem and they look at the registry, trying to find a driver called BHDrvx86 and it is not there. The error log - they said look for an "a" error in the Url.txt error log. The log reads a=800705AA&b=System\CurrentControlSet\Services\BHDrvx86\Instances. However, Norton could not identify the 800705 code; did not know what it meant. I kept the error log if it is of any benefit.

I tried also to install Avg 2010 and it will not install either. Therefore I wonder if this problem is actually not Norton but is WinXP.

Second problem - emachines did not give me any Win XP disc; shouldn't WinXP be on a partition (... Read more

Client Bought a New Lenovo Q150. Out of the Box it gets "No boot device detected" message. Lenovo overnights a new HDD. I go on site to swap out HDD's. Still no same message, Lenovo doesn't pre-image there HDD's. So i call them to ask what to do. I get told CX should of gotten a Recovery Disk. He didn't. There only option there willing to give is DEPO service 7-10 Business Days.

Is there anywhere I can inexpensively pick up a recovery DVD, and get this guy up and running. Everything I find are for recoveries, not clean installs.

Any help would be grateful.

My desktop computer was originally Windows XP and I downloaded an illegite Windows 7 to it. My question now is which Windows 7 should I upgrade to: Home Prem. or just Home Prem Upgrade? C I want to get my computer in good condition by purchasing and downloading a legit Microsoft Windows 7. WIth the windows 7 that is now on my computer, everything is crashing and the DIrect-X is not working. I don't know anything about the inside of computers, just know how to type on them.(Smile). I want my computer up and running like it should once I download the newer version of 7 to it where everything will work. Also do you think since I have an illegite 7 on my computer, is that why it crashes all of the time? Pls help ASAP. I'm tired of searching for the best software to download to upgrade my computer. Thanks Genuine50.

A:Purchasing Windows 7 Home Prem. Upgrade

FWIW: The upgrade version of Win 7 obtainable in family packs...is far cheaper than any other version...provides both the 32-bit and 64-bit DVDs...and results in a clean install of Win 7 from a system with XP installed.

My desktop is currently connected to my network via ethernet and client bridge using DD-WRT. It has worked well in the past, but just recently, I have been having issues getting Windows to connect to my home network. I haven't changed any settings or installed new drivers. The client bridge is working fine and so is my home wireless router. I am at my witts end and can't seem to figure out what has happened. I've tried reinstalling my ethernet card drivers, which worked initially, but after starting up my machine this morning, I'm back at square one. It seems as if Windows cannot get an IP address for some reason. All other machines in my household are working fine and don't seem to be acting up in any way.
Here is my network setup:

Your nic has ip 169.x.x.x and subnet mask. Not sure why your adapter didn't pull a IP from the router. Is DHCP setup in the router? If I am not mistaken DDWRT gives out  Ip addresses. You want to disconnect from Hamachi VPN so you can test your connection. I would also temporarily disable Hamachi till you get your nic back up. Go to start type cmd and use the command ipconfig /release "Local Area Connection" then type the command ipconfig /renew "Local Area Connection" The router should assign an IP. When you disconnect from Hamachi you're computer is supposed to fall back to the local network nic, but since the IP is wrong you get no connection out.

Does dell have some block to installing windows other than the version (with dell addons) that was preinstalled?

is that oem windows or retail version? you mentioned that you use same key on other pcs.
i think you can use one windows license only on one pc, if its oem it is bound to the hardware on which it was activated and you can not transfer it. if its retail you have to use only one active copy if there is hardware change you may need to do phone activation.

I have had this laptop for a while and my dad got it from ebay running windows 8.1 however I have noticed on the bottom of the laptop there is a sticker for windows 7 home prem product key and was wonder could I use that to do a clean install of windows 7 home prem.

Any help would be appreciated.

A:Clean Install Of Windows 7 Home Prem

Hello Gregg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Yes, you can use the product key on the COA sticker to do a clean install with. However, you will only be able to activate the clean install on that specific laptop. OEM keys are permanently tied to the motherboard.

Hi all,

First post here and not sure if this is the right forum. (crossing fingers)!

It seems that the first Monday of the month, my system resets back to the date that MS pushed out IE9 to my PC and installed. This brings back the 'old' desktop and settings.

Each time this happens, I have to reinstall my printer & set to default, reactivate various program icons, etc.

This is becoming very tiresome as today was the 3rd time this happened.

I am in hopes that there is a GURU out there that can advise on a solution to this.

Many Thanks in advance!

A:Windows 7 Home Prem. x 64 reverts to previous settings

Do you keep installing IE9 ? It won`t install unless you want it too. Change your update settings to check for updates but let me choose whether to install them. Check for updates and this time hide the IE9 update. Right click on the update to hide it. Wait and see if it reverts again.

In my opinion there is no reason to install IE9.

I hope you can help with a recent issue thats shown itself. I bought a used Acer Aspire 5542 laptop months ago running Win 7 home prem with all the latest updates and everything running fine. A few days ago a message popped up telling me the serial number was invalid although there is the COA on the underside of the laptop. On a suggestion from a friend I ran Belarc Advisor to find out the code installed, it showed the two numbers were different. What Im assuming is the hdd has crashed/been upgraded, and replaced with a dodgy copy of Windows, or Ive been scammed.

Where do I stand on this, can I replace the dodgy no. with the real one, download a beta and use the coa, or am I stuck with having to buy a new Windows disc?

Thanks in advance

A:Windows 7 home prem serial number issue

If you have a Legal COA sticker on the outside for the version of Windows you are running you can change the License key to that and it should activate.

Product Key Number - Change

Open Control panel and then open System and at the bottom is a Link to "Change Product Key" click that and input the key from the COA sticker.

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, when i turned on my laptop and logged in, it ran for about one minute then completely locked up (i could not use Ctrl-Alt-Del only the power button).

I spent hours yesterday trawling through all the other threads which are similar to my problem, i ran a start up repair, a memory check, virus and malware scans and defrags. None of these have helped in any way at all, I was just about to re-install windows 7 but then i realised i have lost my Microsoft office disk and my Norton antivirus disk and all the driver installation cds

After all this i found that it can run in safe mode, even safe mode with networking!
If i have left anything out i'm very sorry (first post!!)
the dump files are attached ( I think )

And Finally THANK YOU ALL!

Can I do a inplace upgrade from Windows Vista Basic to Windows 7 Home Premium or will I have to do a reformat and install of Win 7. I know if I do an inplace upgrade I would be able to keep the programs, settings, etc.

I've run the Windows 7 Compability Download and it says that I can upgrade to Windows 7. Does that mean I can do the upgrade in place or do I have to do the "Custom" install.

Thanks for letting me know. I've looked all over Google but haven't come up with the answer.

I hope this will help someone else that is not sure.

Hello. This is my first post on the forums although ive used it many times as a guest to solve some problems and I have appreciated the level of integrity this site has to offer. Having said that im having a BSOD issue (0x01E) on a windows 7 32bit home premium machine. It happens more often than not on shutdown but has occasionally happened on startup.

Is Windows 7 . . .- x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? 64- the original installed OS on the system? Yes- an OEM or full retail version? OEM- OEM = came pre-installed on system- Full Retail = you purchased it from retailer - What is the age of system (hardware)? Around 6 months old- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?) Clean install (recovery partition)
