BSOD's and freezing only while in games

Q: BSOD's and freezing only while in games

So for the past 2 weeks or so my games have been freezing and an occasional BSOD. Recently it's been getting worse where 5 minutes into any game it freezes instead of freezing every 3-4 hours. I have tried a ton of things including:
-driver verifier
-uninstall recent programs/updates
-chkdsk
-disk defrag and cleanup
-running a game from a different hdd (although I have not re-installed windows on a different hdd)
-swapping sata cables and ports
-memtest (no errors after 4 hours or so)
-western digitals hdd checker thing (forgot name)
-tons of virus scans (bitdefender, malwarebytes, spybot search & destroy)
-rootkit scans
-unplugging things from my psu (bluray, cd/dvd, card reader)
-sfc scan
-prime95
-monitored temps of gpu and cpu (all good)

Here is my system:
graphics card- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 05_s00_i00
ram- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 06_s00_i00
primary hdd- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 06_s00_i00
monitor- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 02_s01_i00
mouse- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 02_s00_i01
keyboard- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 02_s02_i00
case- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 05_s00_i00
secondary hdd- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 06_s01_i01
mobo- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 06_s01_i02
cpu- http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B [...] 06_s01_i04
psu- Ultra LSP 750Pro ATX PSU

Here is data from 2 recent minidumps.
If anyone has suggestions that would be awesome. I think I may need to replace my mobo but I'm not sure yet.
When I ran the wd hdd scanner it came up all clear and everything was fine.
When I ran chkdsk it came up with a ton of corrupt files, so I tried running a game from a different hard drive and still the same problem. (drive has no OS, I ran it from the same hdd with all game files installed on other hdd)

anyways here are the minidumps:

Code:

KERNEL_DATA_INPAGE_ERROR (7a)
The requested page of kernel data could not be read in. Typically caused by
a bad block in the paging file or disk controller error. Also see
KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR.
If the error status is 0xC000000E, 0xC000009C, 0xC000009D or 0xC0000185,
it means the disk subsystem has experienced a failure.
If the error status is 0xC000009A, then it means the request failed because
a filesystem failed to make forward progress.
Arguments:
Arg1: fffff6fc400060f0, lock type that was held (value 1,2,3, or PTE address)
Arg2: ffffffffc000000e, error status (normally i/o status code)
Arg3: 0000000114119860, current process (virtual address for lock type 3, or PTE)
Arg4: fffff88000c1e93c, virtual address that could not be in-paged (or PTE contents if arg1 is a PTE address)

Preferred Solution: BSOD's and freezing only while in games

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys. Recently reformatted windows as I've upgraded to an SSD. Apart from that no new hardware changes. I've had a nightmare with windows updates, narrowed it down to 2 updates that would always crash my PC so I ended up turning windows updates off. Now, on games or sometimes while idle the PC freezes then BSOD. With a critical "Kernal Power" error in event viewer. If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it! Log file attached below thanks.

I had someone help build the system about a year ago.
I don't remember formatting or anything since building the PC.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570
ASUS P8Z68-V
Corsair 750W Power Supply
128 GB SSD - with windows and some games on it
500 GB HD - storage

Basically while playing some games (WoW/SWTOR) recently I encountered some freezing. It started occurring more often which led to blue screens. Now even while I'm just browsing the internet I will get freezing followed by just blank screens.

I have tried MAL ware scans with MalWare Bytes as I try to scan frequently. I tried virus scanning with Avast. I have checked drivers and updated any.

The 2 most frequent BSOD errors I have received are:

STOP 0X000000F4

and

STOP C00000135

The program can't start because %hs is missing from your computer.

After searching around the above blue screen error for some led to a registry error, but I checked and I didn't seem to have the registry error.

I am thoroughly confused. Any help would be appreciated. If any further info or dumps are needed I will try to provide.

A:BSOD during games and now frequent freezing +BSOD

I set it to collect mini dumps.

The latest BSOD gave

kernel data page error

STOP 0X0000007A.

It seems to BSOD while I try to do anything game wise. If I'm just browsing after a while it seems to just freeze up and go to a blank black screen.

I have an Acer G7710 Predator PC that has Realtek audio on board. While playing Dragon Age and Titan Quest, the sound freezes and often causes a BSOD. It starts with the sound cracking and popping and rather quickly either freezes the system or causes a BSOD.

My first step was to install a sound card. I have a basic Sound Blaster Audigy Value edition card and installed it and disabled the onboard audio. To my surprise, it freezes exactly like the Realtek one did.

The odd thing is that if I reboot I can go back and play the games without any issues. This freezing seems to only occur if I start playing after the PC has been running 30 minutes or so. I have honestly just started rebooting every time before I play and it seems to help with the freezing.

I have read countless forums and tried various fixes and nothing works. I have honestly thought about buying an external sound card and seeing what happens. I have read many others who have this exact same issue and cannot find a solution.
This is the only issue I have with this PC but it's a nagging one for sure.

Hi
Welcome to Seven Forums

Have you tried updating the drivers (newer BIOS if available on the support page) for your PC?
Does this happen for only the two games that you mentioned or for other games?

my computer gets bluescreen randomly when playing. it happens in almost every game, even games like TES: oblivion crashes. many games like GTAsan andreas just freezes and stays that way for infinte time or until I shut down the computer. the computer can handle games like skyrim without lagging at all. but instead this happens. I think it be my computer overheating or something.

any help for me?

A:BSOD and freezing while playing games

Here is a simple test to determine if it is indeed a heat issue. Open your side panel and remove it. Place a small fan and on low setting have it blow into your system. Now play the games that cause your issue. What are the results?

Also, if there is dust build up then clean the dust out using a can of condensed air. Spray the air in burst no closer than 6 inches. DO NOT TURN THE CAN OVER. Keep it upright. Clean your cpu and especially your video card fan.

Hey, I'm having a lot of issues when trying to run most games on Windows 7. I have an ATI HD Radeon 5970 and whenever I open, say, Team Fortress 2, it will get past the first few screens and then when I try to actually play it will freeze up then give me a BSOD saying the error is 0x0000007E. I've tried uninstalling the latest drivers and going back to an older one, but it's the same issue. I've got no idea how to solve this. Any ideas?

My PC started crashing daily and usually when trying to use some programs (Skype, Kies, etc.) or games (DotA2, CoH2). I have before used them without a problem. I tried to solve this with windows error reporting service but it didn't work.

Thanks in advance!

I've been having a bunch of trouble with locking up and blue screens on a new PC I just built a week ago. Here are my specs:

AMD ATHLON II X3 435 AM3
ASUS M4A78LT-M LE AMD760G
4GB GSKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GBNQ
XFX RADEON 5770

CORSAIR 550VX 550W
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

It ran flawlessly for about a day, but then after showing some pictures on my TV over HDMI and then going into the menu to switch the display back to my monitor Windows froze up. Restarted, and then had like 1-2 hours where right after it got into Windows it would freeze or blue screen after 1-2 minutes, no matter what kind of activity I did (even froze once on the login screen).

I couldn't always catch what the message on the blue screen was, but one was "BAD_POOL_CALL" and the other was "Memory Management".

My drivers are all up to date, as far as I can tell, and the freezing has been happening both in games and out of them. But sometimes the system will go a long time with no blue screens/freezing, I'll play Torchlight or Dawn of War and then wham - BS or freeze.

I do have onboard video with my MB - could that be interfering with things? I also hear kind of a lot of audio "pops" which led me to think it could be sound related, but those drivers are the latest from ASUS's site (onboard sound).

I ran memtest86+ overnight and it did 7 passes with 0 errors. I thought it might be bad memory though because when I took 1 stick out I wa... Read more

So the backstory:

I played 7 Days to Die last weekend and had an odd freeze where everything locked up and the monitor suddenly looked like this:

http://i.imgur.com/C9c5BGS.jpg

I figured maybe it was an issue of graphics card drivers needing to be updated so the next day I went ahead and updated my drivers. Later that day 7 Days to Die crashed again, the same way. Then later World of Warcraft did. At that point I figured something must be pretty wrong, as I'd been playing WoW on and off for weeks and never had any problems.

I tried dusting out the case, worrying that it was a heat issue. Eventually during one of the restarts/freezes I got to the point where the tower would boot up but the monitor stayed in Power Saver mode. After flashing the BIOS and removing the graphics card, I was able to get back into Windows. I figured maybe my graphics card was on its way out, but it couldn't hurt to format the SSD I keep Windows on and start clean before I put a new card in. So I did that, but held off on putting the card in right away as it took forever to get all the Windows Updates handled, and eventually I ended up installing Windows 10 as there were so many problems with Windows 7.

Fast forward to now where I still haven't installed a new graphics card, as when I tried to test my system out by running some games (Rocket League, which completely freezes up on the title screen; Beseige, which plays fine but within 5-10 minutes causes a BSOD of System_Service_Exception) it did... Hello.
I 've been having trouble trying to figure out what is going on with my PC.What specific hardware is causing all of this , or if it is more than one even.I could really use the help as I even took it to a tech in town and payed for nothing as he didn't manage to fix it...

Problem: So I have been having BSOD,freezes with no messages at all that need me to reboot, artifacts in and out of game and lastly...various errors in various different games that can range from crashes on mapload with no message at all to game file validation failures.Once I had the VGA "disconnect" for 5 seconds and windows "recovered it".BSOD can happen even while on desktop I think.

Clues: Truth is that I was having BSOD and freezes back in the past with my old GPU (which died on me) as well but I thought it was due to it overheating. Now after the upgrade I did to a new card, I have these issues again but also I have ARTIFACTS and general errors/crashes in most of my games. It seems that some of them might be HDD related.
One more clue is that my HDD also died on me...I thought that is why I was getting BSOD but it didn't stop even now that I am just running my single SSD.

Hello

This problem started a year ago with my old configuration, it started just once a day or just once a week... after a few months it was every day at least 3 or 4 times.
it mainly occured while i was watching a movie or playing a game, doesnt matter what game or what movie i was watching, ive tried to replace the RAM memory, run memory tests basicly everything i could do, even asked some local IT guys i knew, they didnt know what caused it... after a while i became really frustrated about it and i decided to upgrade my computer to my current configuration. after i upgraded my computer the problem was gone... till now! * i didn't bought a new HDD*
a few days ago Battlefield 3 was released, and after a few days of playing it the problem came back, while in game my computer crashed again randomly..! the game freezes, the only sound you hear is the last mili second of what sound it was playing in-game.

Hey everyone. I just recently bought another card to xfire for my rig. Since ive done this however my games randomly freeze or bsod, or freeze with a loud buzz until i shut my rig down.. i think its a driver issue, because it used to do it when i had 1 card and i bumped it down to like 11.10 and everything worked fine.. but when i got the new card, apparently 11.10 didnt support xfire.. so i had to update to 11.12.. and now i have my issue..

When having stability problems the first thing you want to do is not OC, don't start OC until you have the system running stabile.
Check you ram timings in BIOs and make sure they are correct.
Try bumping up you ram voltage and see if that helps.
Try upping your graphic card voltage a little.

Turned the PC on, started to play games just fine, and I wanted to test my PC so I started live streaming while playing "Mount and Blade" not a very graphics intensive game but streaming causes some stress. The BSOD happens after 5min-1hr of gameplay or live streaming(movies). Hoping one of you can help me out, this is my first CPU, Mobo building.

Things I've tried, I've ran a memtest and passed 6 tests.
Reformatted, clean installation of drivers.

So I recently upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 , 10 was for free so why not. It was okay for weeks and i went on a holiday for 3 weeks. When i came back and plugged my PC back in it started to crash to BSOD or it just totally shuts off and restarts. I am also having these freezing problems which force me to manually turn off my PC ( which i know isn't the best for the PC) . Most of the time the crashing happens when Im playing games like Fallout 4,Dead by Daylight. I didn't notice any problems when being in a program like Photoshop CC . I tried programs that find system problems , scanned my hard disk and Ram too , no problems there , tried changing my power supply if its getting enough power . No fixes.

I have had my computer for 2 weeks

I had a power shutdown when installing windows and had to remove 2Mb RAM before it would install ok

It had now installed OK but I get repeated freezes during games, have had a couple of BSOD plus other random shutdowns

I have had further power supply problems since (UPS seems to be stopping power randomly, have now removed it but also I live in a country with regular random powercuts so without UPS still get problems with those)

I am wondering whether the rest of the RAM is a problem as I already had to replace one lot

A:BSOD, games freezing, sudden shut downs

Other than your nvidia driver being a tad out of date I don't see anything that immediately stands out.
I just reformatted though and haven't reinstalled my debugging software so I'm only breezing system info. Someone else should be by shortly.

If you suspect your ram running memtest86 never hurt anyone. Let it do at least 5-7 passes though.

Hey Win7 Forums

Recently, my computer has been behaving quite oddly. It hasn't been booting up, but hasnt given any error messages. When I try to boot, it will open up to a black screen where the Starting Windows stuff is supposed to appear, but nothing will happen. I'll restart it a bunch of times, and eventually I'll get one where the words Starting Windows are there, but still nothing happens. If it offers me the option to load the repair program, it will open the screen that says windows is loading the files with the loading bar at the bottom, but nothing will load. It takes anywhere from 10 to 30 restarts before i'll seemingly just get lucky and it will turn on.

Also, I've been freezing lately while playing BF3. My video card drivers are up to date, along with the other main drivers. Sometimes, I'll get a BSOD if I wait long enough, but it doesnt ususally happen.

Also, when starting, sometimes when it says on the boot screen "Verifying DMI pool data", nothing will happen, and then it will suddenly say: Disk read error, press cntrl + alt + delete to restart.

This leads me to believe that it's a disk error, which explains a lot of the symptoms i've been having lately, but I just dont know where to start the diagnosis.

Any help would be much appreciated.. here's hoping I can turn it on tomorrow to check your responses.

I recently built a computer for someone, with relevant specs as follows:

Intel 2500K
Komputerbay 1333Mhz PC3 10600 / PC3 10666 8-8-8-24 1.5v 8 GB KIT
ASUS GTX 560

Ever since I delivered it to him, it's been either freezing (often with popping from his headphones) indefinitely or producing BSODs. These can be as often as a couple of times a day.

Generally the crashes occur when he is gaming or watching Youtube videos, but sometimes they also occur upon restarting the computer immediately after a crash.

Since we both have little time on our hands, it's become a game of trying to troubleshoot the computer remotely, thus far with limited success. I've tried replacing the memory as I thought this might have been the issue, but that didn't help.

I would be immensely grateful if somebody could have a look at the contents of his MiniDump folder, as having tried to interpret them myself I haven't got very far.

Thanks

Hi. Thank you for your time and expertise
For a while now I've had mostly BSOD 0x00000124 appearing on my screen when watching online videos(except YouTube) or whenever I played PC games on maximum video settings.
I decided to re-install Windows, assuming that software is the problem. Though after that not only did the BSOD stay, but also my computer started freezing randomly(on start-up, while installing updates, browsing the internet).
Also I installed Zorin OS 6. After a few minutes of browsing the internet(using Chrome) it also froze.
I tried running MemTest86+(using a CD) but after about 10 min. the computer screen shuts down on its own.
What should I do?

Hi,

I started getting BSOD in August, but I fixed it on Sept 9th by updating my ethernet card. And my computer worked fine until an unexpected shutdown last night which was followed by a bunch of 0x9F problems, then 0x116 when I started up any game. I already did a disk check with /f and /r, and sfc /scannow. I also "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" error in Windows 7 or Windows Vista did this in which I changed the TdrDelay to 8. I had the latest graphic driver, but I went back a version of the driver to see if that solved anything, but it didnt. Attached is a couple of my blue screen reports. Any help is appreciated!

I just updated and rebuilt my PC and have reinstalled Win 7 64 bit and am constantly getting a BSOD while using the PC. Specifically while downloading/installing/playing games. I have also had the error occur just while surfing the internet.
From the program Blue Screen Viewer it seems to be caused by ntoskrnl.exe+7f1c0 and/or ntoskrnl.exe+7e769
I can not find any solution to fix this issue, I have updated drivers, I have ran the Microsoft memory checker, , I have changed out my memory, tried 2 other video cards, tried two different wireless network cards, now on wired connection, I even changed motherboards, got the errors on both SSD and HDD. The only things I haven't changed out is the PS and CPU, since I am using the PC to write this I am ruling out the CPU as the issue.

I have used Memtest86 and prime95 to test the memory and CPU, nothing is coming back with errors or issues. I did run driver verifier and got two .dmp files for some specific files but not sure what to do with those now. They are included in the attachement

It seems to be software/driver issue but I can not figure it out.

Any help would be great, thanks!

Hello,

I'm going to post two different scenarios that happens when my computer needs a hard restart
My computer freezes completely (literally no movement on the screen or anything, it's not slow it's frozen). And an extremely loud buzzing sound comes out of my headphones or speakers. The same thing as above except without the loud buzzing noise.

I saw that this happened to someone else who had both the speakers and the headphones plugged in at the same time. However, scenario #2 just happened to me 10 minutes ago even though I only had my headphones plugged in.

I built this computer six months ago and it's the first computer I've ever built. I assume it's a driver issue but I can't really pinpoint the problem since no BSOD appears on the screen and I have no higher computer knowledge.

I'm attaching the zip file required.

Wow, this sounds like the same thing that happened to a friend of mine when his hard drive was failing. Replaced the drive and the freezes went away. Even the buzzing noise.

Also you may need to look at what drivers you may have just install/updated.

Hoping you don't have any failing hardware "Motherboard, video card, etc". Those are expensive

Currently when I play a game the BSOD happens randomly, I can go a whole day without it, or it can happen frequently. It happens the most when I close or exit a game, then it'll kick to a blue screen.

I really appreciate what you guys do and I hope I followed all the instructions right on how to post my logs and stuff, here's the attachment and some basic system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64

Before we can even begin to find the underlying cause you need to update the following drivers. Especially asacpi.sys. Yours is from 2005

Code:
ASACPI.sys 3/27/2005 10:30:36 PM
Lycosa.sys 1/18/2008 4:51:42 AM
nvm62x64.sys 10/17/2008 5:01:06 PM
netr28x.sys 2/25/2009 11:02:09 PM
How To Find Drivers:

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

A friend of mine is having bsod issues when playing certain games, example:

Rainbox six siege,
Battlefield One (BETA)
and a few others.

Wondering if anyone can give us a clue as to the cause.

Windows Format is done, but to no avail, memtest has been run, and disk checked.

Okay so here's my problem. When I'm playing certain games on my PC, like Grand Theft Auto 3, or Halo which I just bought, my computer will freeze up on me, but when I'm playing some other games, like Hitman Codename 47, I won't have any problems.

I've tried updating my video card and sound card drivers, with no luck, and I've already spent 2 weeks corresponding through email with the people at Rockstar North trying to figure out what the problem is, cause I thought it was only GTA3.

Has anyone else encountered this problem? And if so, were you able to fix it and how?

I am having issues with my computer and freezing during games. I have been playing some pretty intense graphical games for a computer including Warcraft3, Battlefield 1942, and Civilization 3. I have been having problems with my computer freezing at random intervals during these games for a couple months now. I updated my video card drivers and it seems a little better but still happens way too often. It seems to freeze oddly however, sometimes it freezes completely while other times it will slowly freeze like bag lag... both require restarting the computer. My friends say that it probably has to do with my video card or Windows XP Pro Edition but I'm not sure. Thanks for any help.

OS: Windows XP Pro Edition
Processor: AMD Athlon 2000+ (1.67 Ghz)
Ram: 512 DDR Kingston
Video Card: GeForce4 Ti4200

Hows your cooling? When it freezes, shut down, ground your self and feel around. Hard drives, cpu vid, ram.

Not really sure how long it's been effecting me, but im using Windows XP professional, and whenever i play Games ( i think i've narrowed it down to games using 3-D but not positive on this ), no matter how low the system requirements ( AKA, Tribes 2, Rise of Nations ) the computer freezes either constantly, or once an hour, or if im lucky once every 4-5 hours, but no matter what, theres a very high chance that the next time my computers off isnt because i shut it down using the start menu, but i had to turn off the power.

System Specs are as follows ( coming from DxDiag )

Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1, Build 2600)
System Manufacturer: VIA
System Model: 7VTXE+
BIOS: Version 1.00
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.7GHz
Memory: 512MB RAM
Page File: 119MB used, 1131MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0b (4.09.0000.0902)

A:Freezing with games

Make sure it's not overheating - take off the side of the case, and have a fan blowing towards the inside. Clean out the dust inside, and make sure the fans on the CPU and graphics card are working.

Also, what is your power supply rated at? It might be overheating as well.

I'm running Win XP Home and I recently upgraded my computer to a AMD 1.3 Ghz processor, 512 mg DDR Ram, Micro-Star International LTD MS-6738 Motherboard. I have had the Temp. the ram tested and all that is fine. My daughters games, Jumpstart advanced preschool, Reader Rabbit and Dora the Explorer, freeze about 5 mins into the games and I have to reboot. I am stumped as to what else to do. The games ran fine before the upgrade. When I went to the Administrative>Events place on the comp. it says I have a PctSpk error 1063 StartServiceControlDispatcher failed and I can't find any info on that any help would be GREATLY appreciated...Julie

Ok, whenever I go into one of my games it freezes, doesn't do anything but put a little white dot in the far upper left corner. However, when I change my graphics acceleration down to none or one before none it works but way too slow to even play (like 1 step ever 5 seconds) I have tried downloading new drivers for my videocard but that didn't work, I upgraded my RAM as well. This has happened with three games so I am pretty sure it is my computer that has the problem.
I also put my dxdiag information in here as well.
Please Help

I like my online games, But unfortuantly I can play them.
Whenever I play Eventually they will freeze (In about 5-10 mins)
It's Really Annoying... Any tips?

My Card is 256mb Memory and Im using 1680x1050 (32bit) reso with 60hz

I know its NOT:

My Gfx Card Temp
Screen Resolution (My card is always @ 60hz no matter what resolution)

I suspect its my Power Supply
I hope it is so I can get a new one And be able to run my new Gfx card (Geforce 9600)

A:Games Freezing..

If you mean 110Watts then yes this is low (too low for an addon Video card)
(I note that you have removed the reference stating you had a 110 Power Supply)

You can also do the below (freely) before purchasing a better Power Supply:

Please run Memtest on your Ram
And confirm all your Device Drivers are up to date
Also make sure all Windows Security Updates (and Service Packs) are completed

Hi all,
I have a problem. I start a game and after some time It freeze. It happened to every game I tried (Unreal Tournament III, The Witcher 2, FIFA 12). I've got all drivers up to date and my components aren't overheating. And by the way, I can hear a sound from game when It freeze, the only solution for getting the game back to work is to use Ctrl+Alt+Del a maximize the game and It works again for some time.

My spec:
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit SP1
MB: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 (BIOS version F4)
GPU: nVidia GeForce GTX 560 Ti
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition
RAM: 4 GB
Power Supply: Fortron Epsilon 600W

I'll appreciate any help.

A:Games are freezing

I could be wrong but the specs for your graphics card say it requires 38A on the +12V rail from the power supply. The power supply specs state it has 4 X +12V rails at 18A each.

If I am understanding all the specifications the card uses 2 X PCI connectors. If they are coming from seperate 12V rails you only have 36A available so it is underpowered.

I just bought a new setup,

Athlon 64 3000
Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939
1GB Samsung 400mhz pc3200 Dual Channel
550 watt power supply
PNY GeForce 6800 GT 256mb
Win XP Pro SP2
My games keeps freezing every few secs for a few secs. Seems like the intense ones like battlefield 2 and Far Cry. Installing programs causes it to restart.
Iv'e replaced the Processer, replaced the mother board, tried 8 different RAM sticks at different speeds, Tried different harddrives (IDE and SATA), different PS from 420 watt to 550 watt, tried a different video card.
I've also tried fresh formats with no other devices ( meaning just hard drive and video card), tried different video card drivers (newest, betas, and older), updated BIOS and all drivers.
I've been reading forums for the last week and a half. I'm at my wits end right now. Could someone please help me?

A:Games Freezing

my friend had that same board, and he was experiencing similar troubles. it turned out that the board was at fault and replacing it fixed the problem. try running your machine using one stick of ram, with the case side panel off.

My PC/steam games are freezing two minutes into play. Can't exit to task manager only hard reboot. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 15 7000 (brand new so easily able to handle AAA games) with gtx 1060 nvidia.

Things I've tried;
DDU removal of nvidia drivers with clean reinstall (this actually seemed to work for a couple weeks but then started up again and didn't work again)
updated BIOS
Memory check
Reinstall windows 10
power optimization
Steam game reinstall

Any suggestions?

so your games actually freeze or they just lag? if it's just your fps dropping in big maps that sounds about right for a pc of those specs.

the culprets include:

soldier of fortune platinum (single player)
soldier of fortune 2 double helix (single player)

the screen just freezes and whatever sound was playing at the time repeats itself over and over. the computer accepts no input (ctrl alt delete, esc, etc.). and i am left with no choice but cold boot.
maybe my poor man's system just isnt nice enough. its a laptop my bro sold to me for a good deal (it was not abused in its past life). it is a toshiba tecra 8100. its got a 800mhz processor and 256mb pc100 ram. the video card is 8mb s3 savage.

my past laptop (dell latitude cpx 500mhz, ati rage pro card, 256mb ram) played the games without freezing.

I recently reinstalled winxp pro and have been experiencing several problems. Every game that I have on my system will freeze up after a few minutes of playing. After a moment or two it will revert back to normal play, but this process will continue. I have updated all my drivers including the video drivers, mobo, sound card, and windows. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the latest drivers as well as older ones and the problem persists. Could it be my card is running hot? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L505-GS6000 and was looking to upgrade my ram so my computer would run faster. one reason I am doing this is an online game I used to play all the time wont play very well, the fps is good but after about 4 mins of playing the game starts freezing every 4-5 seconds. my question however is while looking for ram to put in my computer I found a Corsair 8GB PC8500 DDR3 1066Mhz SODIMM Memory - 2x4096MB or Patriot PSD316G1333SK Signature Laptop Memory Kit - 16GB (2 x 8GB), PC3-10600, DDR3-1333MHz, 1.5V, CL9, Non-ECC, Unbuffered. I wasnt sure which would be better for my laptop an give it the best speed. also what does the Unbuffered mean? I was also wanting to make sure the Ram memory kits would fit in my laptop. Thanks
