T450S w/ lid closed not going to sleep automatically after eject from UltraDock

Q: T450S w/ lid closed not going to sleep automatically after eject from UltraDock

Hello all, I currently have an issue with at least 2 users... When working on a Win10 T450s laptop, docked to an UltraDock with an external monitor while the laptop lid closed, ejecting the laptop(with lid closed but computer on) from the dock does not cause the laptop to automatically go to sleep. I have all Windows 10 settings configured to sleep when it detects the laptop lid as closed. This can be a real problem if the user thinks the laptop is going to sleep automatically and puts in their laptop bag with the laptop on, and potentially cause overheating issues and damaging the laptop. Is there a setting I'm missing or is this a bug? For time being I'm instructing users to manually put their laptop to sleep prior to undocking. Thank You, -Mark

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The Ethernet port in my Thinkpad Ultradock 40A2 won?t connect to the network anymore, and displays a status of ?Network Cable Unplugged? even though there is a verified working connection plugged into the dock.  This dock had worked flawlessly for four months until yesterday when I needed to use the Ethernet connection on my Thinkpad T450s (undocked).  Previously I had only used the laptop undocked in WiFi mode.  My T450s? Ethernet port works as expected when undocked, but neither the laptop Ethernet nor the dock Ethernet work when the T450s is docked. I have tested this connection with different cables, routers, and laptops to verify 100 percent that everything downstream from the dock is working correctly. I then upgraded (via WiFi) all drivers and BIOS for the T450s and upgraded the Ultradock Firmware.  Immediately after that, the dock Ethernet connection worked until the laptop was rebooted then it reverted to the adapter status of ?Network Cable Unplugged? in Control Panel>Network Connections. My wild guess is that after enabling the T450s Ethernet port something in the OS is forcing the Ethernet port on the laptop to have priority over the dock Ethernet port, but the T450s? Ethernet port is designed to not function when docked.  I have no idea how or where I would investigate or change this behavior.  Ethernet has priority over WiFi in advanced settings. Should a second, separate Ethernet adapter be show... Got my T450s just two days ago and have the following issues with sleep mode:  1. Fn + F4 does not activate sleep mode2. Manually selecting sleep mode from Start --> Power results in one of following:EITHER unable to wake from sleep mode. Pressing keyboard keys (incl Fn), using pointer, etc. none of these will work. Must execute hard shut down and re-start using power key in order to use the laptop. I know it is in sleep mode because the Thinkpad "i" blinks slowly and screen is darkOR computer screen is black, but Thinkpad "i" is fully lit (implying it isn't in sleep mode) however the computer doesn't react to any typing or Fn to bring it out of sleep mode Anyone else having these or similar issues? Please advise of any solutions. Have latest Windows 10 update and BIOS. Have fingerprint reader functionality but am not using it.  This is my first Lenovo laptop, bought it for work and many of my coworkers were interested to hear what I think about the product. Don't think I could recommend it to them in all honesty at this point....

Hi,I have ThinkPad T450s.I usually use it with its power cord plugged in.When I'm done working, I close the lid, take out the power cord, and make sure it's asleep (the red lamp is slowly blinking). Alternatively, I choose sleep from the Win10 menu. When I take it out of my bag after a few hours, it's very hot and the battery is almost empty. Why does it happen? Is there a way to keep it asleep?I'd really appreciate your help.Anna

Issue:  At startup Windows 10 x64 shows my wireless card is enabled and shows multiple available networks nearby including the one I use.  But Windows will not automatically connect to my network.  Yes I have correctly entered password and enabled "Connect automatically" checkbox each time.  If I click on that connection it connects so clearly the password is stored.  But at next startup the connect appears in my list but does not connect. This issue has persisted for at least 2 months through multiple lenovo and windows updates.  I have completely uninstalled the wireless card and removed the drivers.  I have uninstalled the Intel PROset app via "Add Remove Programs".  I have reinstalled the latest available PROset driver from lenovo 20.10.2.  Yet the problem persists.

Hi all, My t450s restarts instead of waking from sleep when it's been left in sleep for a prolonged period. It has happened multiple times and I cannot figure out what the issue is. It seems to only happen when the laptop is not plugged in to AC. That is, it always boots fine when it's waking while it's plugged in. What gives? How can I fix this? Cheers,

Hi,

You're sure it's cold booting and not resuming from hibernation?

Have you checked you sleep settings to make sure it's not set to hibernate after a set time when on battery?  That's how I have mine set:  sleep and if that goes on for an extended time, hibernate.

My brand new T450S laptop won't wake up from sleep mode at times.  When I close the lid and reopen it, it will show a black screen.  I notice that the red light on the ThinkPad sign on the outside cover remains solid and not blinking on those occasions when I can't wake it up.  When the red light blinks slowly back and forth, then I know I can open it and resume my work.  So what do I do when it is in that solid state and I can't wake it up at all??

Hi Taytay,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing.

Can you try turning ON or OFF the Hybrid Sleep. Open your Lenovo Energy management and turn off the Hard Drive power Saver option.

Other things that you can try:

Check this Recommended Settings for Sleep
Turn off Fast Startup

Running Win7 on Asus EeePC 1000H netbook. After coming out of sleep mode, I often lose my bluetooth mouse connection and I always find that Win7 will no longer release any USB drive that is plugged into the laptop.

Deleting the bluetooth entry for the mouse and then adding it again seems to work, but its a PITA. I also note that when adding a bluetooth device Win7 always connects to the MS driver database and downloads the latest driver - so it appears to be a driver issue?

Nothing fixes the USB drive eject problem but a shutdown.

Both work fine prior to sleep mode.

Anyone have any ideas?

So I just got my thinkpad t450s, and i've noticed that when i have the speakers plugged in to the laptop and the machine goes to sleep the speaker emmitt a buzzing noise. I'm assuming this is a grounding issue, does anybody have any suggestions for a fix or if this is something that could cause other problems? Is this a situation where is should be getting a replacement? Thanks!

A:T450s powered speaker buzzing when laptop is in sleep

Hi Mblo,

Welcome to Lenovo Forums.

Sounds to me like your new cable is acting like an antenna and you're picking up the static from there.

Try connecting your speakers and computer at the same power outlet, with an extension cord. Keep the cable connected to your speaker, but plug them out of your computer. If you still get noise, the cable is the problem.

I hope the above information helps.

Regards,
Shashi

Although I love the new functionality of W7's taskbar I find it annoying I have to look across the screen to find closed icons rather than them sitting in the same place as before.

I've tried the XP taskbar method but frankly it takes away a major functionality of W7.

Does anyone know a way to get the taskbar to move unused icons to the left (and by default the open icons move right)

If this doesn't exist yet I'll suggest to Connect.

Hi JoeW,

As far as I know, what you're asking isn't possible. The closest thing you're going to get is probably to bring back Quick Launch (possibly what you meant by "XP taskbar"). The Windows 7 Taskbar is like that by design.

Q: Using a front-end / back-end database, is there an automated way to move records that have a field marking the record as "closed" to a second database (along with their linked table records) to store "old" information. Here is the background information on the database.

Database was originally suppossed to hold information on client contact information & file notes. However, over the last year, the boss kept requesting expanded information be available, and I would create new tables and relationships to hold billing information, doctor, scheduled fees, and insurance information.

The main client information input form is set up with the main record information and clientID field. 4 subforms (added using a Tab contol with the subforms linked via the clientID field) are also on this main form. I moved the billing (money owed / money paid and the running totals) to a seperate form completely, which is opened by a command button which opens the billing form with specific data from that clientID. I thought that this would speed things up some, but it hasn't

Things were rocking along fine, until temporary help was hired to input last years clients information in the database as well. So the database has gotten extremely large and rather slow when the main input form is opened (Once it's open, it cycles through the data fine with minimum delay). I added a field in the main table that the clerks can check to mark the client as "closed"... Read more

I found this explaination / outline of what I am needing to do, but don't know how to create the query that this individual is speaking of. Elaboration would be great...

Unless you have size issues, I would recommend leaving the old data in place and using its status code to bypass it in your normal queries.Click to expand...

Which I have done (bypassing it), but still need to move it
If you still want to move it, create a new db to hold the archived data. Import the structures and relationships from the main db. Link the archive tables to your main db. Create queries that select data from each table and append it to the archive.Click to expand...

This is where I need more assistance
These queries should be criteria driven so you can select specific records to archive. You will need to take care to run the archive queries in the correct order so that you can maintain referential integrity in the archive db. You need cooresponding delete queries that you run once the data is archived. Make ABSOLUTELY certain that the selection criteria is identical. You want to delete the records you archived, not some random other records. You won't need as many delete queries because assuming you have properly created RI and specified cascade delete,Click to expand...

This I have done

I know this is not a software issue as holding a magnet above the sensor (in between the caps lock and shift key on the left keyboard bezel) sleeps the machine. Does anyone know where / what the magnet is thats meant to interact with this sensor? I assume it is meant to be positioned somewhere in the Screen bezel? if so does anyone know if this is something that could potentially be checked / serviced by a user or will i be bringing my machine to a repair centre.Cheers

When the lid is open it doesn't go to sleep, but when it's closed after about minutes it goes into sleep mode (all fans off etc).

This never happened with windows 7 and i've triesd programs like insomnia which haven't helped at all. Id really love to get to the bottom of this, otherwise I might have to reluctantly revert to windows 7

Anyone offering ideas would be much appreciated. Cheers

A:Unwanted sleep when laptop is closed

Hi safety1g,

FYI, I have seen this behavior before on a few Sony Vaio models, and each time it was referred back to Sony support, where they said the option to "change what the lid does when closed" is/was not supported in their power management scheme and there was no workaround for this issue. So, just consider this an FYI at this point; however, if you can't get your issue resolved quicky, I would spend 10 minutes on the phone with your laptop's manufacturing support group to see if they can confirm a similar issue.

Good luck,

Hello, I just received an Alienware R2.  I cannot get it to wake up from sleep mode when the lid is closed with my USB keyboard or mouse.  It does wake up from sleep mode with my USB keyboard when the lid is open.  I just updated the bios to Version A05,A05.  Before I updated the new bios, it wouldn't even wake up from sleep mode by hitting the laptop keyboard.  I had to hit the power switch.
I also have updated the video drives to Version 20.19.15.4312,A04 (Intel HD) and Version 10.18.13.5442,A02 (nVIDIA Geforce).
I am guessing this is still a BIOS problem, but is there a fix?

I have an odd problem. I've noticed that when I close my XPS 13, it shuts down (as indicated by the annoying front LED) but then later on it will start back up while it's being transported. Sometimes I'll get home, take it out of the computer case, and it will be as hot as a thermal missile because it's been running.
I'm not sure why it would just randomly start up like that? I have the power options to "sleep" when lid is closed, as seen here: http://i.imgur.com/p0x1C86.png.
I don't believe I have malware because I have reset my computer to factory settings on multiple occasions and scanned with SpyBot and Windows Defender.
In Bios "Wake on LAN" is Disabled.
For the life of me I can't think what would be triggering this besides the NSA (I joke). Does this happen to anyone else? Did you find a fix for it? Was it a dell program? Or is there a faulty piece of hardware on this computer?

This is happening to me too. Did you ever find a solution? I just got an XPS 13 9360 and the only solution I have found is to hibernate it instead of using sleep, but this is annoying because it takes longer to wake up.

There seem to be two times this happens. I close my laptop lid (set to sleep when closed) and then when I reopen it, it restarts and then tells me there was a blue screen. When I click on the option to look for solutions online, the pop-up window just closes and disappears. Other times it has happened when my computer was idle for a while, lid open (presumably it went to sleep), then returned to it and power button illuminated, but black screen. Nothing to do but power off - or if I close the lid for a while, it will then restart when reopened.
Seems totally random. Sometimes doesn't happen for days in a row, then twice a day.
Thanks for your help. Sorry I'm not super tech savvy.

A:BSOD - Usually When Lid is Closed, Maybe Sleep Problem

Welcome aboard, anahata.

Your problem seems to be with your usb port/hub. Is there anything connected in the laptop's USB ports when you close the lid? Say any external HDD or something else? If so, remove those, close the lid and follow if it crashas again.

Turn USB selective suspense on to narrow down the possibility to discriminate if it is being cause by the hardware, or the USB hub driver.
USB Selective Suspend - Turn On or Off

At the same time, try to upgrade your NEC Electronics USB 3.0 Host Driver, using the link provided in the page: Driver Reference Table - nusb3hub.sys.

Let us know the results.

I have a Dell Studio running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, and the laptop doesn't sleep when I close the lid, except I double-checked my settings in the control panel and it's supposed to sleep.

I've had the computer for over 6 months now and the problem first started yesterday, right after I installed the latest Windows updates. When I close the lid, the computer doesn't sleep, but even when I open the lid, nothing appears on the monitor. It's still black and unresponsive, although the power button isn't blinking, so I know it's still awake.

A:Laptop doesn't sleep when lid is closed

Hello ieatlikeawolf, Welcome to the Forum.

Could you answer a few questions?
Does the laptop go into sleep mode if you choose Sleep from the start menu?
Have you tried doing a System Restore to a point before you installed the updates?
Did you install Update KB976902 at the same time as other updates?

Hi, Sometimes when I close the lid off my Yoga 260 Windows 10 are not going to sleep. The behaviour is really weird because the red light on the lid is blinking like when it's in sleep mode, but I can hear the rotating fan. When I open the lid it's even weirder. Windows are not locked and I am not prompt for a password. The whole system is very laggy. The mouse is moving in jumps and there is not any response to keyboard or screen touch. After few seconds/minutes the system is suddenly OK like nothing happend. This is not happening all the time and I was not able to see any pattern when this happens. What should I do to get rid of this? Thx for help.

It sounds like a device is having a problem entering the low-power state.  Look in the event log

Hi,
first time here, I have about a week experience (pulled out some hair) with windows 8/8.1, but I consider myself pretty comfortable with Windows in general.

When my win8.1 laptop is in sleep mode, I can wake it with a mere touch of my external bluetooth k/b without any issues, as long as the lid is opened. If I close the lid, I can continue to use it as its connected to a big Samsung plasma tv. But if I let the laptop go to sleep (or put it to sleep myself thru the menu), I am unable to wake it back; I need to pull it out from a/v furniture, open the lid and press the power button.

Is this a win8 thing, an Acer Aspire thing, or worse it can't be done?
Anyone else able to wake from sleep their win8 laptop w/closed lid???

Thanks

Try going into the power options and set the option for what to do when the lid is closed to "do nothing".

HiI'm using a HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j198ez Notebook PC running Windows 10 64bit.I have an external display, and it's the only display I need, hence, the laptop lid is always closed. The peripherals I use are:Microsoft Designer Mouse/Keyboard Wireless Kit - BluetoothWacom Intuos 4 Tablet - USBLogitech Rumblepad 2 Game Controlle - USB None of the above mentioned peripherals wake the laptop from sleep. And I am forced to open the lid everytime I need to use the laptop. Previously I was using a Logitech USB keyboard and a Logitech Wireless Mouse (wth USB dongle) - both were able to wake the laptop from sleep with no problem. Gave up on them because I needed the extra USB slots. I also have a Bluetooth speaker set, which led me to belive that the bluetooth connection of the laptop is closing whenever the laptop is going into sleep, since it starts searching for other devices to pair with. This would explain why the mouse and keyboard can't wake the laptop, even though I have checked the "Allow this device to wake computer from sleep" boxes, for both, in the Device Manager dialogue. Any solutions for this?I would also be happy if the tablet or gamepad would wake the laptop. But the "Allow this device to wake computer from sleep" check boxes are greyed out for these devices. Thanks in advance.

I am not sure when this started, but my P50 is set to sleep on AC or battery after x hours of inactivity. It resumes with the touch of the power button, but all apps are closed.  I have tried setting power settings to allow for hybrid sleep, but this has not helped.  Some posts indicate that maybe apps are closing when resuming from sleep, and not when going into sleep, but i can't seem to find evidence either way.  My system has 64gb of ram and 2 512gb PCI SSD. Any suggestions on where to look?

A:P50 apps closed when resuming from sleep

Now i suspect the machine is restarting or crashing somehow.  I noticed event ID for machine entering sleep, but then event ID 12 - operating system started. Minidump folder has a 0 KB DMP file at that time. Machine was set to restart on blue screen, so tha may be it.  I see minidump files from other dates too, but i have never seen a blue screen. More digging.

Hi All
This is my first time on any forum so forgive me if I have gone to the wrong place. I have had the common problem of broken hinges on my L50 B. I have replaced both hinges and to all intent and purpose ever thing went well, i.e. the lid opens and closes great now. I have however done something wrong, the laptop now doesn't sleep when I close the lid. I have checked all the power settings and the advanced settings and they are set to sleep when lid is closed. Has anyone any idea what I may have done wrong. Can anyone tell me what the motherboard connection of the lid sensor switch looks like? Any help gratefully received.

I bought this, hooked it up to my monitor and keyboard when at my desk... close the lid and it goes to sleep.  I checked forums, they assure me I can turn this off under power settings... but they of course show images of earlier Windows version.  is this no longer available in Windows 10?

A:Inspirion 15 7000, no sleep when lid closed

So you went to settings-System-Power and Sleep-Additional Power Settings and changed what happens when you close the lid  and it had no effect?
You might open an admin command prompt and type the command below and see what it shows about the Sleep option.
powercfg /a

Hi all, hope this is in the correct forum but mods please feel free to move if not.

I've just been given a new Lenovo Yoga 2 by my work and it's running Windows 8.1 Pro.

However, I've lost work several times now as every time it goes to sleep, when it wakes up all of the apps have closed as if it shut down (the sleep light is blinking when it is asleep)! Is this normal for Windows 8 as I've never used it before and it certainly didn't do this in Windows 7?

I purchased my Hp envy 360 laptop at Best Buy about a week ago. It was an open box purchase because It was in near perfect condition . I tryed charging it but it only charges when it is in sleep mode or either closed . When I plug it in while its in it has a white light and the battery days plugged in ; not charging . But when I close it there is a orange light and a couple hours later it's fully charged . I assumed I had a bad battery but I ran a battery test and it said my battery was fine . Because it charges when it's closed I assumed their was a setting I could just switch but i don't know what to do .

When the laptop is closed, pressure on the laptop will cause it to wake from sleep. There is no option in the BIOS or device manager to disable the wake from sleep option for the keyboard. Here is someone with a similar issue with the ISK1. https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Yoga-Series-Notebooks/Yoga-900-keyboard-wakes-laptop-from-sleep/...

I have the same problem, tried the aforementioned solutions, to no avail. I think this is a design flaw and no simple solution. I suspect some type of viltage control board has failed. It woukd be nice to know what the sikution is, even if it is too expensive to fix.

Howdy folks, I did some quick searching and could not find an answers to my problem and thus am posting here. I have a X1 Carbon 3rd Gen (Type 20BS) with Windows 10 and over the past 2-3 months have noticed the following problem: Problem: After placing the computer into sleep mode via the start button and closing the lid the computer will randomly start back up. I will often open my pc after noticing how overheated it is and find that it came back on and for some reason the touchscreen has been typing and opening applications. Obviously this is very annoying and results in my computer draining its batter and random applications being opened. Any ideas on what may be causing this and how I can fix it?  Happy to provide driver details and any other diagnostics if you think it would help.  Thanks,Andy
