[Thinkpad T460s Intel Management 11.8.50.3425]

Q: [Thinkpad T460s Intel Management 11.8.50.3425]

Hello everyone, I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad T460s. When I open Lenovo System Update, I received an update called Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware - 7[32,64]/8.1/10[64]. I tried to install it, but then a black window pops up and disappear without any error log. Lenovo System Update said it was successfully installed, but when I open System Update again, the update appears again. I did it several times, but it just didn't work. I also tried to download and install it manually, then I received an error 8704: firmware update operation not initiated due to a sku mismatch. Can anyone help me with a solution please? I appreciate all the help from you guys. I hope you have a good day! Thank you all for reading.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I'm trying to install "Intel Management Engine 11.8 Firmware Update" (specifically the newest version - 11.8.50.3425) but as you can see in the image attached it stucks on "Checking firmware parameters..."  I've tried to install it from the "Levnovo Vantage win10 App" and even directly from the Lenovo's support website (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds112240) but it keeps stucking in the same spot :/ What can I do? * If any other info is relevant tell me I'll appreciate any help, thanks ahead

I tried to update the Intel Management Engine Firmware (Version 11.8.65.359) but failed.  Then every time I tried to power on my laptop, it either couldn't boot (the power button flashed for 1~2 seconds and then turned down) or encountered "(A7) Me FW Downgrade - Request MeSpiLock Failed". Right now, my computer can not restart -- it will turn off and won't power on again. This is the ThinkPad Setup: I tried the recommendation from a thread (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops/Thinkpad-X1-Yoga-1st-Gen-BIOS-Problem/td-p/43...) and encountered this problem:

A couple of days ago i updated the Intel Management Engine Firmware to version 9.5 through the Lenovo System Update software. Imediately after restarting I noticed how much slower the computer was. It took some extra time to boot up, and was much, MUCH slower at starting up apps like spotify and firefox, etc. I also noticed a massive slowdown when playing. The task manager shows a normal usage of CPU, RAM and GPU, I'm usually at no more than 40% and I can still notice the slow down at all times. Is there a way to roll this update back? Do I have to wait until another not-messed up update? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I am not a native speaker so that the description below may not be clear. Last night when my laptop attempt to upgrade its Intel ME firmware, the system appears a blue screen with words "A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed". After that, the procedure of boot of my laptop became "auto power off twice after press the power button, then it will boot into BIOS itself". In other words, it likes: t0: Power button pressedt1: Screen was turned on for about 1 sec, then the whole laptop powered off.t2: happen the process of t1 againt3: boot into BIOS I guess the Intel ME firmware was broken. I tried to googled for related information but found nothing. I swear I will not upgrade my BIOS or Intel ME firmware anymore... Then I downloaded the Lenovo Recovery Image and used it to reset my computer into the factory status, but the issue still exists. I think it is because the Intel ME is a independent chip to the OS, so even recovery cannot help. Thanks for your kind help.

Hello

some friends of mine informed me of this article on extremetech.com that informs us about intel patches major flaws in intel management engine.
Intel has acknowledged and patched a new suite of security problems affecting its Intel Management Engine. This subsystem controls many low-level capabilities of the SoC, and can be used for features like remote access and Intel’s Trusted Execution Engine. The company has released a list of 10 vulnerabilities across multiple products that are addressed by recent driver updates. Potentially affected systems include:

6th, 7th & 8th Generation Intel® Core™ Processor Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 v5 & v6 Product Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family
Intel® Xeon® Processor W Family
Intel® Atom® C3000 Processor Family
Apollo Lake Intel® Atom Processor E3900 series
Apollo Lake Intel® Pentium™
Celeron™ N and J series Processors

That’s Intel’s entire product line dating back to the introduction of Skylake. According to Intel, attackers could impersonate the Intel Management Engine, Server Platform Services, and/or the Trusted Execution Engine, load and execute arbitrary code without the user or OS being aware of it, and destabilize or crash a system altogether.
Intel has released a detection tool so you can check to see if your system is affected by these issues. Updates will have to be issued by firmware vendors, however, so even ... Read more

I have a Thinkpad T460s since a couple of months. It's the i7 edition with 20GB/1TB edition. The device has been working fine so far, although the CPU fan had to be replaced shortly after I got it (rattling noise). Since a couple of days, the Thinkpad is spinning up the fan very often. Just a simple interaction such as opening Chrome triggers the fan to blow quite loud for some time (20-30s at least). When compiling using Visual Studio, the fan almost spins to the loudest it possibly can. The thing is: it didn't do that all of the time I've had it.  Even when it's completely idle (say 0-2%), the fan still humms a little bit (it didn't do that before either). Could this indicate a hardware issue? I have NBD support but should know whether this could indicate some failure. Thanks for any advice.

Hi Guys,   I bought a Thinkpad T460s laptop and replace the build-in 128G M.2 Sata SSD with Samsung M.2 NVM 950 pro 256G SSD. It works perfectly fine with Windows 7.    I do noticed that the T460s still have another M.2 42MM slot which can be used for 4G WWAN card, will this slot be used for another SSD drive? Such as MyDigitalSSD Super Boot Drive 256GB M.2 SATA 42mm SSD? Hiseems T460s (20F9) is wors than my previous laptop T420s, I can't move it so freely as before. At certain point the mouse cursor just stops moving and have to use force with a finger to make it move anywhere. I noticed the cap hole is now much smaller than f.ex. T420s, perhaps this is the reason for it. I found a link on the net to make the movement possible better;http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/thinkpad-t460s-trackpoint-mod.790347/In addition, previously there came several Caps with the laptop, now there is not a single extra one. So I don't dare to try the fix above link before I have at least one extra cap in case something goes wrong. So the question is what is the product code for the Thinkpad T460s Trackpoint Cap collection? I tried to look in the net, hard to find.  I used Lenovoguickpick and the possible code might be this;ThinkPad Super Low Profile TrackPoint Cap Set (Part # 4XH0L55146)Then again googling that with amazon produces no results so can't get those anywhere. Any help appreciated, Thank You.

Hi, Since this morning, my 3 week old ThinkPad T460s started making some weird fan noise. When spinning up and also while slowing down (so not on higher speeds), there's a rattling noise coming from the laptop. Sounds a bit as if the fan is brushing against something or perhaps some trembling/interference?Also at really slow fan activity, this is audible quite heavily. Up until now, that noise wasn't audible at all. Should I be calling in support (I have on-site support for this machine)? I don't assume this is normal for a new machine to happen? Thanks!

I have searched all forums including this one and have been unable to find a resolution to my issue.I have had my laptop (Thinkpad T460s) for just over a year now and use it for work daily. I was using it with no issue at lunch, but when I opened the lid around 3 hours later - the screen was black and the laptop seemed to be stuck in sleep mode. I tried a hard reset and now I can not even get the Lenovo post menu to show.If I press the power button, the keyboard momentarily turns on the backlighting and the power button stays illuminated, after about a minute the power button turns off. This entire time the laptop screen is completely black, I don't see the Lenovo post menu and therefore have no acces to the BIOS or OS.I have tried using the hardware reset button on the bottom of the laptop, removing the 2 discreet batteries, removing the CMOS battery, removing all batteries and resetting the RAM. None of this has gotten me any headway on resolving this issue. I am going to try contacting technical support but am hoping someone may help me find a quick and simple resolution to this issue.

A:Stereo line-in recording on T460s Thinkpad

Welcome to the Community

Google "external sound card" and "Line In" with quotes around them and you'll get a zillion hits for USB devices. Some are better than others. There are cheapo dongles that do a passable job all the way up to professional ones with XLR inputs. (The ThinkPad's HDMI connecction is outgoing only)

Since you said "tuner," I imagine you're recording off of the radio. Unless you plan to use an HD radio, any of the less-expensive models should do a good job. Just make sure you get one with the jack pack you need that'll work with the OS and recording you're using.

Hi all,  I recently purchased a T460s with some upgrades on the specifications (RAM 16 GB, GPU GeForce 930M and etc.). The initial operating system was set to Windows 7, so I upgraded to Windows 10 64 bit. I manually downloaded all the drivers required for this laptop and windows 10. While everything else runs pretty well, the keyboard backlight does not seem to work. I haven't checked if the backlight works on the previous operating system, so I am unsure if the problem is actually from the hardwares or if the OS was updated wrong. I am pretty sure that this model supports the keyboard backlit function since the space bar has that little image on the left side that (I'm guessing) indicates the function of backlit keyboards.  I'm wondering if there are actual drivers that I must intall prior to pressing the (Fn+Spacebar) keys to turn on the backlight, or if there is a problem with my computer. If it's the case of the latter, I am thinking about resetting my laptop (reinstalling windows 10). Being aware of how long it takes to download and install all the necessary components, once I do, is there any method of backing up the computer and after the reset just using that backup to go back to the original state where I have all my programs and data?  Thanks.

Please help me make my first experience successful. I have been tasked with deploying new Win10 PCs by the EOY. My company purchased Lenovo ThinkPad T460s(s) and Lenovo ThinkCentre M900(s). I didn't have any trouble creating the image and uploading it to the WDS server, which is Server 2012 R2. However, I am having no luck deploying the image to the PCs. Here's what is known: *Each PCs MAC address has been added to the 'Allowed' filter on my DHCP server*Each PC has the same ethernet LAN drivers (Intel 1219-V 64-bit Windows 10)*WDS is configured correctly (I have no trouble deploying images to my Windows 7 machines)*Boot.wim for my Windows 10 machines is correctly added to the WDS server Here's the issue: When I boot a PC, press F12 to initate a PXE boot, and choose the NIC adapter to boot, I have no trouble. From there, I get to my boot options listed in the WDS server and choose the Windows 10 boot image. From there, WDS goes to the setup window, and eventually, I get a message stating the following: WdsClient: An error occured while obtaining an IP address from the DHCP server. Good day Everyone, I was just provided with a 'new' laptop at work to replace my old one and when wanted to check the specs on the Lenovo webiste, I noticed that the following message popped up:Sorry, this product is no longer available This pop-up message really called my attention because even if I know that certain products may have shorter support or sale life span, I think this one is not too old not to be available anymore.I am now a little concerned that this machine may not be that good a product and will be able to perform as expected in the years to come. I don't have the luxury to exchange my designated system too often so I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. The upgrade is made now because I am having problems with my current T430s, but those are mainly software issues, I just want to kill two birds with one stone by getting a new image with an upgraded machine.I read some of the comments written and most of them are good. So, even though I am the one who would decide whether to upgrade or keep working with the current machine, I am still puzzled by the fact that the new one is no longer available for purchase. So, does any one know why this model is now discontinued?Thank you!Moris
