Lenovo ThinkCentre M82: Sound issues with Istation e-learning app, faint sound with speakers

Q: Lenovo ThinkCentre M82: Sound issues with Istation e-learning app, faint sound with speakers

Good morning everyone,

I am having issues with sound on the M82 or 3306G1U as stated on the subject. The sound works perfectly fine for everything with the exception of Istation, www.istation.com. I did notice that this is only affecting 2 out of the 20 plus computers we have, so its a bit hard to say its just the model. I have tried updating the drivers to the latest version, and as well verified that it was not just the input device for front and back jacks being wonky. Oddly enough the support agent I worked with, used TeamViewer and was able to hear the application just fine, however when I used speakers it was very, very faint but I could also hear it.

Is there any general help anyone can provide me to pinpoint the problem further?

Mod: added app name causing problem to Subject line; and corrected the model number and system type

Preferred Solution: Lenovo ThinkCentre M82: Sound issues with Istation e-learning app, faint sound with speakers

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I am having issues with sound on the M92 or G1U3306 as stated on the subject.

I'm not finding that model number, can you verify? Running 'sys info' can usually also provide the model number (do not post serial numbers.) And OS info and Istation version might be helpful. Thx.

Lenovo Thinkcentre m92p sff (3227) makes Beep sound when powered on since I updated the bios to the version: 9sjw99usa.exe.Also since I replaced the stock lenovo Fans with Noctua fans it makes a second beep (so 2 beep sounds total and there is a fan error in the bios event log), when I connect back the stock fans it makes only 1 beep again. I dont know if the noctua fans would cause the same behaviour on the older bios version since I replaced the fans after the bios update , but I know that with the old bios version there wasnt any beep on startup with the stock fans.I read somewhere that lenovos can give errors in the bios event log with other fans when their rpms are slower then the original fans rpm were, that doesnt explain the single beep on start up with the stock fans though.I wasnt able to find any older bioses for my model to experiment with them on the lenovo support page only the newest bios is offered for download and I wasnt able to find a way to turn of the self test / beep post on start in the bios. I remember that some oem pc systems had key combination for hidden bios settings, does someone know of such a combination to enable hidden settings for my device, or any other way to turn of the annoying beep sounds?I also replaced the stock PSU  with a Be!Quiet! Ok so i would describe myself as an intermediate/advanced PC user, but this has baffled me. My speakers suddenly stopped working so i did the normal reinstalling of the drivers however this did nothing. I tried this many times, uninstalling the windows audio drivers. Nothing worked. Because of all my messing with the system to try and get the speakers to work, i decided to reinstall windows hoping this would fix the issue. On the newly installed version of windows i had no sound from the Microsoft drivers or from installing the Realtek drivers. Currently i have noticed that the drivers do not seem to be correctly installing. After installing the Realtek drivers the installation all works perfectly, restarting the computer and then finishing the installation etc. But after i check in device manager the Microsoft drivers still seem to be installed? I have tried manually uninstalling the Microsoft drivers and then installing tthe Realtek, but the Microsoft drivers just reappear. The sound does work from the headphone jack. I initially thought it might be the hardware the speakers themselves but after noticing the drivers aren't installing correctly it may well be a software issue. Can anyone help?!?! I really don't have the 99 Microsoft wanted to help and Lenovo were completely useless, uninsterested and told me to contact Microsoft. What really sucks is the fact my Warranty with Lenovo has literally just ran out

Are these the drivers you are trying to install?
All driver updates are here, you might want to apply all updates -
Could you please post a screenshot how your audio drivers are showing up (in Device manager)?
Also, go to system try >> right click on volume >> Playback devices
and post a screenshot of what is selected there? Also, see if something can be configured in those settings?
You may also want to upgrade your Intel Graphics (chipset) drivers, sometimes they cause problems with audio.

So i just got my pc back from a workshop who did some changing of hardware. I dont think they changed the speakers, cause they worked just fine. Now i only get sound from my subwoofer, and my headphones works just as good as they did. I dont think its a hardware related problem, because the headphone jack works. But i dont know.I have tried deleting and re-installing chipset drivers and audio drivers. But feel free to come with reccomendations.Windows sounds still sounds the same as they did too. It has been like this for a day now, and its getting really annoying.Thanks!-hnnngjnsn

Hi guys, just reinstalled windows 7. everything works great, then I went to paly a file and to my surprise, no sound. Tested speakers on another device, they work. Sound card drivers are working and up to date.

When I play a media file, I can see the sound gage go. So I went in sounds, playback device, and all I see in there is my sound card, no speakers or headphones icon. Thus no sounds from speakers. Tried other headphones/speakers they also dont work on the PC.

First two screenshots are my Device Manager, third one shows my playback devices.. My wife needs this for her business and I am losing sleep over this for days now I tried everything. Any ideas?

Hi -

What sound card do you have?

Double-click on the HD audio device in Device Manager - what is driver and date?

Usually there is an audio codec/ drivers, e.g., IDT, Realtek, etc... that must be installed.

What are system specs - exact model number from label on back of PC, please.

Hello everyone, I have recently purchased brand new Lenovo IdeaPad 710S-13IKB. It had Windows preinstalled. The problem is that there is no sound from the speakers, headset works fine. I have tried everything, even reinstalling Windows. Downloaded both drivers via Realtek, Lenovo official website, via Windows Device Manager. When something plays, the speakers indicator shows as on 'sound' screenshot attached. I am really lost here, can anyone please give soem advise. I read on some forums that there might be some conflict between Microsoft and Realtek driver versions. Perhaps, the directory to where the drivers are isntalled is not proper. Does anyone has any advice on this issue. I am ready for a remote session via TeamViewer or Supremo if possible as well. Best Regards, Dmitri

I have a headset but I prefer to use my laptop's built-in speakers (I only need to use the microphone). Is there any way I can switch between my laptop speakers and my headset? I have Realtek HD Audio Manager but neither Realtek nor Windows' mixer recognizes the headset whenever I plug it in. It just gets grouped into speakers under the list of playback devices in Sound from the Control Panel. The headset works fine, but I want the sound to come out of my laptop's speakers instead. (I have the headset plugged in in both pictures.) EDIT: I've tried updating the Realtek driver but it says it's updated.

5.1 Sound issues [ISSUE SOLVED]

Hey guys,

I recently reformatted my computer, and after a lot of issues (dead HDD and RAM) i finally got it working again.
Today i went to start putting my drivers and stuff back on for things and when i got to sound i ran the program as normal and setup everything.
The windows sound scheme is set to 5.1 surround.
The program that comes with the s/c allows me to select 5.1 and press apply, but when i press apply it doesnt actually work.

Whenever i play music, all im getting is my rear 2 speakers. Not even the nobs on my subwoofer (rear speaker control) will allow me to turn them down.
All cables are in the correct ports so i know this is not an issue.

Any ideas?

Card is a C-Media one i think. It doesn't have like specific brand though, i think the chip is cmedia and the card is AudioExcel.

Need any other info, let me know

A:5.1 Sound issues (Rear speakers only)

Hi Rio  (apologies for the wait)

Have you checked the Cmedia program settings (hopefully installed in your start menu group)

Also are you positive that you have installed the correct driver for your Windows version? (directly from the manufactures support page)

Hi Guys.

OK. So I am having an audio issue with Vista, in which I didn't have before with XP.

I have Hyundai Z-5500's, you can question these speakers all you want, but they are actually great. Moving on...

Before I upgraded to Vista, my speakers worked fine, however set to a 8CH ratio with the drivers. In Vista, the max ratio I can set my speakers are to 7:1.

I have a 5:1 system, and if I set my system to 5:1, my front speakers don't work.

Now, if I set my audio to 7:1, all sound comes out, except in the front speakers the sound comes out dodgy. (crackly, grainy, tappy) sort of sound, like it's really bad quality. Think of a High Hat on a drum kit, it makes that sort of sound, only with music playing.

However, if I test the audio configuration via the drivers, the sound from all speakers come out absolutely fine, with no bad sound detail at all. This only works with a channel of 7:1.

If I try and test my sound out on 5:1, all my speakers work except the fronts, and when I test the front speakers in the 5:1 audio channel, the sound would end up coming from the rear speakers but REALLY LIGHTLY, like extremely quietly, just hearable if the room is silent.

I've tried ditching the motherboard drivers and just going with some Realtek drivers from the site, but it ended up being the same version corresponding with my motherboard.

I have an ASUS P5Q motherboard, and I am using on board sound.

hi all,

moved my computer - unplugged speakers, plugged back in after move. they don't make sound. tried an alternative set, they don't make sound. headphone jack puts out one channel sound from cd, youtube, etc - not 2 channels tho. at least there is sound and the headphones could be bad.

The first 2 times I booted the computer, after reaching the desktop a big gigabyte screen popped up showing sound related settings. (I have a gigabbyte motherboard) - first time ive ever seen that screen - so i just clicked it shut, before I knew the sound was problematic. cant get that gigabyte screen to come back on tho to see if I need to change settings on it. any idea how to get that gigabyte screen back?

checking the system shows sound in working order; onboard sound, not stand alone soundcard.

A:sound problems/speakers/headphones issues?

tried speakers in the headjack plug on computer front panel, worked fine. plugged them into to rear jack and got sound for a few seconds but have not been able to duplicate again. on mobo plugged in hd plug and realaudio 97 plug alternately, didnt seem to change anything. turns out the headphones only have one channel after all not stereo.

will get a stand alone sound card and see if that works.

Sound on my laptop (Fosa PentiumM 1.6, 1GB Ram, 60GB HD, WinXPsp2) seemed to die a few days ago and I couldn't get it working again. When I plugged in headphones and cranked the volume slider up, I could hear a VERY faint sound being played.
From the actual laptop speakers, I hear nothing, although it could be so faint that it doesn't register - my built in speakers are pretty lousy.

After alot of troubleshooting, I reinstalled Windows and then the driver disk that came with the laptop. I'm still having the same problem.

This laptop I got second hand from someone else and I doubt they would have ever used headphones with it. And since that is when it seemed to happen, I'm wondering if that has something to do with it.

I'm just not sure where to go at this point.

Thanks for any insight!

i need sound recorder to record conversations i have through skype.
the recorder is very faint when recording and i can hardly hear it on play-back.
I made sure the windows sound volume is as high as it can be --- which in all honesty it could be set somewhat higher as well --- but i dont know what else to do

Is the recorder registered at a certain sound level somewhere in the registry ( and this goes for the normal windows sound volume as well) and if so, how can i set it higher? or what can i do, considering i am not particularly geeky.

I used to use Polderbits sound recorder/editor but theyve gone out of business and i cant port Polderbits to my new laptop, boo hoo.

I recently built a new computer and I have a slight repetitive popping/cracking over my computer speakers when sound is played. It happens on both the front and back audio jacks with speakers or my headphones.
My system specs are....
CPU: 3.3ghz intel i5
Mobo: MSI P67A-GD65
GPU: Radeon HD 6950
OS: Windows 7 64 bit

The only other weird thing my computer does is my usb wifi mouse wont work without randomly being really laggy but it works fine on other computers.

Also I have a 2nd hdd with ubuntu on it and when I boot to that drive the popping sound goes away (so must be windows/driver related?).
Ive tried the drivers on the cd that came with my mobo, and I've also update to latest version online.

This is driving me nuts!!

Lenovo R60 converted to W7. everything works fine except sound from the microphone.
If I speak normally into the mic from a distance of 3 inches the resulting recording is very quiet - only just audible. There is a certain amount of buzz as well

The microphone works fine in another machine.

The R60 has Soundmax Integrated Digital HD Audio. I have the latest drivers (W7 drivers are only available for the R61 but I believe the card is the same. They work at least as well as the R60 vista drivers).

In sound->recording I have one microphone (a CD player and Stereo Mix are visible but disabled)
Under microphone->properties I have
Tab Listen - unticked
Tab Custom -> microphone boost ticked
Tab Levels -> set to max (100)
Tab Microphone enhancements -> disabled (Ive tried voice enhancements but it makes marginal difference)
Tab general - it says 'no jack information available' Also, if I enable and select as default one of the other recoding devices, the microphone gets a small green telephone symbol by it. So I suspect Soundmax is not detecting the mic in the jack correctly which may account for the symptoms.

So can anyone help me get this fixed.
All (sensible ) suggestions welcome

I'm trying to configure 5.1 Surround Sound but Realtek doesn't seem to be installing and it's driving me nuts.

I have installed the driver provided by Gigabyte for my motherboard and it's not doing anything. It installs, asks me to restart the PC but nothing is there. OS is Windows 7 64-bit.

Gigabyte says that my motherboard supports both 5.1 and 7.1 Surround Sound so I don't understand why I can't configure my speakers to run 5.1 (it only lets me use Stereo).

Device manager only shows High Definition Audio Device and Control Panel doesn't show Realtek at all. Realtek Audio Manager doesn't appear either, it's not in the system tray icons where I would usually find it. Even searching for Realtek brings up nothing other than all the drivers I have downloaded to see if they would work.

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the Playback section, set your "Speakers" as the Default Playback device (if it's not now set). Then see if you have speaker and/or headphone sound.

A:Solved: computer sound muted but sound is still coming from speakers

In some cases, if the speakers are cheaply made and not sheilded, they can acutally pickup radio waves (especially if you live near a radio tower). Does the "Talk radio" continue if the speakers are on, while the computer is off?

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

A:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

if yes, most likely you will need to enable the 'upmix' feature of VIA. I'm not sure what is it called, but in Realtek it is called Realtek Speaker Fill or Dolby ProLogic IIx. If there isn't any, you may want to try Channel Mixer for foobar2000.

Control Panel > Sound > Speakers > Properties > Advanced > Restore Defaults

It makes it sound like the only way to get sound from all of your speakers is to enable cmss and click that top option. The only way I can get sound from all of my speakers is to enable the bottom option. What is the deal, and am I getting the best/worst sound in the way I am doing it?

Why would speakers sound scratchy, but headphones and external cabled speakers sound OK? I have a Dell Studio 15 (1555) running windows 7 Professional.

236GB used, 214GB free space
Intel P8700 2.53 GHz Processor
64 bit OS
4GB memory

The built-in speakers used to sound good but now they are too scratchy to understand. However the headset sound is good. According to the Dell Support Assist utility, the sound card is "ATI high Definition Audio Device" and "IDT High Definition Audio CODEC."
Microphone test -- earphone playback is OK, on-board speaker terrible.

A:Why would on-board speakers sound scratchy but headphones sound OK?

You Dell Studio 1555 laptop uses IDT HD audio driver for the built in laptop speakers.
The ATI HD audio driver is only used if an HDMI connection to an HDMI monitor (with an HDMI audio/video cable) is used.

possibly a driver conflict with IDT audio, built-in speakers may be malfunctioning or dirty (gotta have them repaired if it's a hardware problem and not a software problem). just listing the possible causes for the scratchy sound.

Microsoft rarely mandates a roll back to a previous version of Windows... if you received a notification via email or by phone that told you to roll back to an earlier release of Windows OS it may have been a scam or virus (trojan horse) attack on your computer.  I would strongly suggest scanning the computer for virus / malware with a top notch anti-malware suite such as Malwarebytes as soon as possible.
Also - to restore your system to factory specifications / software state you will need recovery disks.  If you did not make them when you first set up your notebook, or have misplaced them they still may be available to purchase from Lenovo Support.
Good Luck.

I have an HP dv6000t laptop, XP, the sound card is Conexant HD Audio. For the dv6000t model, the audio jacks (there are two, for two headphones) are at the front of the laptop, below the touchpad facing you.I tried connecting a DELL sound system that i got default with my dell desktop years ago. It comes with a subwoofer that connects (black plug and green plug) to the two audio jacks and you connect two speakers to the subwoofer. When I plugged in the green plug from the subwoofer to the right audio jack, there was a popping sound. I quickly pulled the wire and from there, no audio would play from my laptop's speakers.I can only play sound through headphones, and through the subwoofer to the speakers.I looked at the device manager, checked the "sound, video, and game controls" and it said everything was working properly, updated, and there were no red X's or exlamation points. My laptop speakers can't play system sounds, or any music. When I open the "Volume Control" window, click on advanced, under Tone Controls, there Bass and Treble are greyed out and I cant slide the bar left or right. I used to be able to.Please help. Thanks in advance. I'll try to make some screen shots asap.i made ms paint diagrams and uploaded to imagebeaveri made the above images using ms paint and google images. this is my first time using imagebeaver but hopefully its uploaded correctly.

So I've got a problem,I changed my case 2 days ago and everything went great, all working as it should be.Up until an hour ago, when the lid got stuck in one of the little clips so after a quick bang it went in.But then I lost my picture on both monitors.
So I went to investigate,I ended up moving the GPU over to the other 16x slot and it is now fine.
but since then I've lost all sound through either the front or rear jacks,It is saying that the speakers are not connected.I've done all the usual checks,as in default devises, drivers.Everything I can think of I have done.I have tried a new cable, and tested through both of my phones and the speakers work fine.I've also tried a few sets of headphones in both jacks. There is a faint hiss sound when I turn the speakers on,that has just started.
I have managed to get sound through my tv via HDMI,but every time,I go into audio manager and lets say change from soft to hard,I loose the sound again, and have to set the HDMI as default again.this too has just started.
I'm using the on board realtek audio sound card ,on an Asus p8z77-lx motherboard.
Just a quick note when I plug in the jack, there is no beep and the pop up screen does not appear as normal.
To me it is pointing towards a motherboard problem, with the 2 problems happening together.Any help would be great.

A:No sound through speakers.Jack not being detected.HDMI sound only?

Hiyya Paul mate sounds like (no pun intended) that thump dislodged something on the board just carefully move the I/O output block and see if there is any movement, could be something a simple as dry joint but which is going to be hard to find and fix.

If you have some warranty and I know it is a PITA having to reef it all out again but.....

Personally I have the P8Z77-V and I just stuck an Asus Xonar DG card in the thing and there is no comparison really and you get one heck of a control centre. Not expensive I don't know about where you are but out here $35 so both my Ivy and Sandy Bridges have them.

re JAL Cb 2800VS system running Win Xp Home- Altec Lansing 251 speakers- surround sound

"I bought this system 4 months ago. i am concerned that I may not be getting the full 5.1 sound. When I went to play a DVD film with the bass woofer speaker set to 6 the 2 rear speakers produced no sound. It is only when i switch back to 2/4 setting that they work but I suspect are just duplicating the front L& R speakers to simulate surround sound.

Is it anything to do with how i have wired them up. the back of the base unit doesnt correspond to the 251 system booklet. The 3 top vertical connections ( back of base unit) are marked ( from the top) cntr/lfe pink; rear purple, s/pdif-yellow. The leads are unhelpfully BLUE, GREEN and YELLOW so do not match. Also the yellow jack is too small to take any lead.

The horizontal set of 3 below are coloured yellow ,green and blue! Yellow has a microphone symbol, green has a " tree" symbol above it as has the blue.

Help please so that I can get all the speakers working as they should with the sub woofer switch in 6 channel position"

Well I sent this email to the PC supplier and talked to them on the phone. they confirmed that connections OK and sound card fitted to operate 5.1.channl sound.
Checked Sound properties in Control panel and even the test zone dialogue box tests all 5 speakers as OK but still no sound from rear speakers on the 6 channel position.
All they could offer was for me to send speakers back to them f... Read more

I am pretty stumped with this one.

I upgraded my office to windows 7 32bit pro. 10 computers all the same, but one of them has audio issues.

When I play the sample music the volume bar shows the equalizer bouncing like it is sending out audio, but any speakers I plug into it produce no sound.

I have tried: different speakers, different jacks, 4 on the back 1 on the front, updating the audio driver, windows updates, rebooting, and yelling and now I am out of ideas.

When I use a usb based headphone I can get sound.

it lists the default sound device as a S/pdif high definition audio device...
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

A:The volume bar shows sound but no sound through speakers.

re: S/pdif high definition audio device

That's the digital output, you won't get any sound with that. Does it show "Speakers" listed in the same Window?

Right click on the Microsoft speaker icon in the taskbar, select playback devices, if you have Speakers listed, single left click on them and select "Set Default".

If you don't have speakers listed, make sure you have a pair of speakers plugged into the light green audio jack in the back then open the playback devices window as above... right click in the middle of the window and enable both "show disconnected/disabled devices".

Any speakers showing up yet?

I have a Lenovo S10-3 Netbook, running on Win7 starter.

It has been running fine unil a few days ago, when the built in speakers no longer play any sound. Works fine with earphones or exernal speakers, but not internal speakers.

Drivers are all up to date, and audio/sound settings are all set to full.

And according to the speaker and sound card 'properties' - "This device is working properly."

What can i do?

A:No sound from built in speakers, but sound from headphones

Do you get sound with the external speakers unplugged?? Usually laptops will disable the built in speakers while external speakers are being used...

I am having a problem with the sound from my speakers when I play CD's, I have a CD-ROM and a CD/DVD Burner. The problem happens in both the CD-ROM and the CD/DVD-Burner. THe problem only happens when CD's are played other music files on my computer play without a problem . The speakers aren't the problem, because they are brand new and this problem happened on another set of speakers. There are no resource conflicts in Device manager, and I have the most recent XP signed driver. Anyone know what can be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Hello  I have been using my hp for over a year with little or no problems and this only happened 3 days ago. I came home from college and I booted up the laptop and there was no sound what so ever so I plugged in my headhones and the sound was distorted. So I thought It must be a Driver Issue so I updated the drivers and It fixed it or so I thought. The next day I came home and had the same problem but when I had the headphones in I could hear that the sound was going from distorted to normal rapidly so I just jiggled the headphone jack and It was fixed. Now today I came home as usual and same thing happens so I tried the jiggle trick from yesterday and nope it didnt work. But after a few mins It ficed itself  Now I havent got a clue whats causing this and Im getting frustrated. Can I do anything to resolve this   Does It matter that I have my headphones plugged on all the time or could it be the head phone jack that is causing issues
