Q: Solved: interesting question

one of the mucky-mucks got a new laptop today, imaged it, installed his custom apps, copied over his profile, installed all necessary software for his various apps, and the only problem I am having is that he wants his custom dictionary imported. Now, I know that with word it's normal.dot; I know this as I tend to have most of my office suite products pretty customized and back up the toolbars rather frequently, as I don't feel like re-adding a few thousand entries into the custom dictionary.

My question, however, is is there a place where office stores ALL of the custom dictionary stuff, as when he opens outlook all his custom entries are popping up in spell checker, and he understandably doesn't want to rebuild that.

I had thought that by bringing over his profile it would solve that issue, or rather had assumed it, as nobody has ever voiced that question before in 5 years of doing this.

So is there a central repository that office dumps stuff in outside the profile that I need to bring up to his new machine?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to block someone from booting up a computer?

(I apologize if this is the wrong forum for this question.)

I have an individual who frequently spends time at my house, and I do not want her to have access to this computer. I'm sure there is a way to do it, but I don't know how. I've tried going to the CMOS screen on start up and setting a password there - It didn't work. I can't remember if there is a password command that can go into a DOS .bat file.

I have an Intel Pentium III, 500 MHz processor. The "brand" name is Pionex. I'm not sure of the motherboard type.

I would appreciate any insite on this problem. Thanks in advance.

Well MS fixed "Error 80248015" ,  Thinking about it this AM how did they access our machines to apply the fix????????????????????

A:Interesting Question

They didn't, the problem was created by an outdated file located on the Microsoft Update servers.
When the Windows Update Client on your computer tries to update, first it check if there is a new version of the client on the server and during that check it downloads a file that didn't pass the validation check because of the expired date.

I was wondering if the following is possible or not.
I want to put a message box on certain folders. To explain, when the user opens a certain folder, windows puts up a message on the screen with a message like "This folder is out of date, please use folder 3." or something along the same lines and then open the folder when they click "OK".
I don't want to restrict access, I just want to give the user information when they enter a folder.

I have searched about a bit but I don't really know if it is possible and what to search for.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to send a fax over a cell phone? Hubby posed this question today. I can't think of a way it could be done, but promised I'd try to see if anyone here had ever heard of it being done.

A:Interesting question

A quick google search

Question: How can I send faxes with my cell phone?

Our fax software can send faxes with cell phone modems, as long as your modem can be seen from a COM Port on your computer, and your cell phone carrier supports this. You may need to call your cell phone service provider to ask if faxing is supported.

Good morning

I'm wondering. On my laptop i have a screen (duh) How can i use it to play xbox 360 or for that matter.. use it as a monitor for another PC...
What can i get that has good quality HD comp. in or VGA in. I have VGA out, but not in.....
SO can i get some PCI card to fulfill this desire? Or is this just impossible....?

A:An interesting question

The laptop screen is hard wired (digitally) to the laptop motherboard.

It's a proprietary digital interface that differs between makes and models.

It's not therefore "available" to use as an external monitor, even if you were to disassemble the laptop.

It would help if you have a hardware keylogger but I don't think it would help if you had a much more common software keylogger.

On discord, its not uncommon for me to come across "Cursed MP4 Files" with strange properties.

I'm incredibly interested how the creators of these files were able to get their results and mostly I want to make my own "cursed files". Some of the properties I've seen are video lengths upwards of 13,000 hours long, yet still being 1 MB. I've also seen videos that have negative video lengths and videos that display the video length as 0, yet still plays a video.

How were some of these made? I can file share the specific MP4 files in question

I connect to a hotspot with a USB dongle. I want to connect another machine, a Wii to be exact, in another room but it can't recieve the signal from the hotspot. I was wondering if there was a way to use the wireless router I have, which only has one input and that is ethernet, to somehow extend the signal to the other room? I have no way of plugging my USB adapter into the router. Can the router plug into the ethernet port on my computer and transmit what is being received via the USB dongle? Thank you guys so much.

A:Interesting USB adapter / router question.

Bridging wireless connections with a pc

Short answer yes.
I currently have a DLink router in one room, a gaming bridge in another room and a USB wireless adapter in a third room. The internet connection from my cable modem service is being bridged to the usb adapter which relays all the internet to the router. The router also communicates wirelessly with the gaming bridge passing along all that traffic.

If you can connect the WII to the router/gaming bridge(one ethernet port makes it sound more like a bridge) then connect the router to your pc using the ethernet port. Finally there should be two connections under "Start>settings>network connections" (assumes windows xp). Select the two connections (holding ctrl while clicking) then right click either and select "bridge connections". That should pass all traffic from your wireless USB adapter to the ethernet adapter.

I don't have a WII but for the XBox 360 bridging was prefered to Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) as it blindly forwards all ports and eliminates the need to specify what ports are necessary for gaming.

Good Luck

this is going to sound bizarre, but i need the info...i have been sending my husband nude photos to his mediacom email account. i asked him for his password and he freaked out and said i couldn't have it. it seems silly, but why would he say no? anyway, i don't want his password at all, i'm just wondering if someone can verify something for me...my husband claims that he cannot give me his password because i won't be able to see any emails, as all his emails sent to the mediacom address are forwarded in 15 seconds to outlook express on his work computer. he claims that i cannot have his password because the mediacom email is for work, and others in his store have access to the address log in, but he says they cannot see my photos because they are going to outlook. how does this work? sounds odd to me. basically, even though on my home computer i can go to the mediacom website and technically log in to his account if he gave me his password...but i wouldn't see any emails?
this is what hubby says...and is outlook truly this amazing

mediacom doesn't delete the messages, outlook express takes them from mediacom, and delivers them to my inbox....It is amazing when you think about it.

A:question about outlook and mediacom mail communication...interesting story at least

If he has Outlook Express set to check for new mail every 15 seconds and to delete downloaded messages from the (Mediacom) server immediately then what he says is true. I've never used OE, but I doubt that you can set it to check for mail more frequently than every minute.

If you turn the pc off, put any usb key in, and boot up, it will not be recognized. Howeveor, if you reboot the system, and add the key whilst the system is booting up, it will recognize it.

When it does not show up, it does not show up in windows explorer, nor can I map a drive to it. The OS is XP Pro. I have not tested any other usb devices in that port, only keys. But three of htose have replicated the problem.

Last night I switched out my ribbon IDE cables for round ones. When I did, My CDRW lite stayed on and blinked all during bootup and the load seemed to lock right after the Windows XP load screen.

The drive showed up in Bios fine. And My system after a restart did load up, but it took a long time to do so, much longer than before. The CDRW also seemed to function weird as it would not allow me to eject a disk. I eventually got that to happen.

I don't quite understand why a simple change of IDE cables would seem to cause these random issues. Any ideas?

We CDRW is a HP Writer 9500i

A:Solved: Interesting Problem? with my CD-RW

The cable is not on backward or loose at one end is it? The stripe on the side of the IDE cable goes to the pin marked 0 or 1 on the motherboard and it faces the power connection on the drive.

If you have another drive on the same IDE cable as the CD-RW make sure its set up right. If the drives are using Cable Select for the jumper positions then the drive at the end of the cable becomes Master and the one on the middle connect becomes the Slave. Sometimes some drives prefer to be set to Master and maybe changing the cable changed this configuration - try maunally setting the jumpers to Master and Slave on the drive or drives.

Or it could be as simple as a bad IDE cable.

Here's the situation:

-Mozilla Firefox runs normally, but Internet Explorer and every other program that uses the internet cannot connect.

-Every five seconds, certain things stop and skip for a few seconds, such as videos, games, and even typing this text.

-System restore won't work. I tried to restore the system to a date before the problems started, but the process is always incomplete, leaving no change in the system.

...and I made the mistake of running a registry cleaner before all this started.

I'm not sure what the problem is, specifically. Ideas, anyone?

A:[SOLVED] Interesting problem

Hi M_Gandhi and welcome to TSF !

Registry cleaners may do more harm than good. If the problem started after you ran the registry cleaner then it may be the thing that triggered it. You should always make a complete backup of your registry before you make any changes to it, we'll tell you how to do that when your problem is solved (let's hope we can solve it without reinstalling). If you're lucky then maybe the software you used made an automatic backup and you'll be able to revert the changes. Check the software's help or manual.

What makes you say the system restore process is incomplete ? Do you get an error message ?

You can try the system file checker if you have the XP CD. Go to start => run and type sfc /scannow (the space is important). Sfc will search for missing or corrupted system files and replace them with a good copy. It may ask you for the CD if it can't find a backup on the hard drive. It will take some time to scan your system files, just don't do anything else while it's running.

Run internet explorer, go to tools => internet options => connections and check that the settings there are the same than in firefox => tools => options => advanced => network => settings.

Run the task manager (press ctrl + alt + del) and go to the processes tab. Check whether there's a particular process other than the system idle process that's taking some cpu usage when your programs seem to stop.

Run the event viewer : start => run =&... Read more

I have a system with two hard drives. Here are the stats:
Drive 1
In Bios: Cylindars 1024, heads 255, sectors 63
In Disk Director: Cylindars 14594, Heads 255, Sectors 63

Drive 2
In Bios Cylindars 1024 sector 63 heads 255
Disk Director: Cylinders 16710, secors 63, heads 255 (viewed from Windows 2000)
Disk Director Cyilinders 19458, sectors 63, heads 255 (viewed from Windows XP)
(the system is dual boot).

Now so far there is not any data loss from the second drive it is mainly a data storage and backup drive. Where the first one is a (dual boot) drive. However some data in folders are invisable in windows XP but you can see and use the data fine in windows 2000.

The question is, what should I do next? I assume get the data off of the second drive as soon as possible. All tests and diagnostics (including spinrite) say that the drive is fine. The next question is if I put the second drive in another computer I have to assume that the data may or maynot be available and if it is, it may be corrupted when viewed in a another machine. Next question is, if I do try to have it viewed from another machine or in a enclosure, will that change the data on the drive any? As I understand it, no but I wanted to confirm.

Someone gave me there computer to have a look at to see what was wrong with it. When i looked inside it had no memory..lol. so he bought a stick and then i tried again. It booted into windows XP no problem and looked good until i did the updates. Apparently whoever built his computer gave him a cracked copy of windows and it failed the validation update. So he was going to buy a new copy of windows. acouple days later i went to turn it on again and there was no video, so i plugged it into the onboard video and still nothing. So i reset the bios using the pins on the motherboard and tried again and it worked. We left it for acouple days again and when i went to turn it on, no video again. So i tried the pins agian and nothing, i tried replacing the battery and nothing, i tried removing the card and just using the onboard but still nothing. If someone could tell me what else to try that would be awsome because i think i'm getting grey hairs over this..lol

A:[SOLVED] interesting issue

hello ,

what you need to do is run a (chkdsk /r) or a scandisk (same thing)

then do this

do you have a Windows Xp cd, not the restore cd's that come with some systems, the cd will have the Windows logo & 3D hollowgram/image on it

if you do not maybe you can barrow one from a friend/family member/co-worker as long as it is the same version that is on your system

if you have (Windows XP Home Ed. sp2 ) then the cd will have to be that / if you have a cd with (Windows XP Home Ed. )you will have to slipstream (SP2 ) onto a disk that you create

this also applies to (Windows XP Professsional )

now if you do have the Windows XP cd with sp2 please follow these steps

performing a (sfc) system file checker

It is a scan that checks the core files & dlls of the (os) operating system and replaces them if they are corrupt or missing with the correct original version

#1 then select (run) , then press enter
a window will open
#2 type in ( cmd ) then press enter
another window will open
#3 type in ( sfc )then press enter
another window will open
#4 type in (sfc /purgecache) then enter / your pc will work like crazy / this helps in rebuiding the cache file (notice the space between (sfc & /)
#5 type in (sfc /scannow ) then press enter ( notice the space between the (sfc & / )

The error comes up on: CPU:OCCT, CPU:LINPACK and POWER SUPPLY tests either in ~1min time, or 5min time (depending on the mood ). GPU:3D Runs fine.

Hi team !

This is the current scenario:

Installed Windows XP on an Arbor ITX board with an IDE 200gb HD.
All went fine, the installation went through, drivers were loaded and the computer runs great.
Several restarts later, all is fine, no problems found.
I decided to make a ghost image of the drive so i can back up the partition. I plugged an 160Gb HD, initialized and partitioned it and made the image via DOS with Norton Ghost using PARTITION to PARTITION method. All went fine.
Afterwards, i activated the 160Gb partition with Fdisk so it can boot. All fine.
I booted the machine with the new 160Gb drive, the windows XP blue bar appeared and all went fine.
After several seconds, windows blue screen with the small windows xp logo appears, however, it does not goes beyond that point. This screen is the one that should be reading "windows is loading" or "loading your personal settings", however, that legend never comes up and the machine stops loading the system there. I have to restart the whole computer and then I'm back to the same screen.
Curious thing is that the mouse is still working, i am able to move it around the screen, but cannot do a thing with it.

I can hit F8 to bring the boot menu and select Safe mode, however, it freezes during the safe mode loading and stays on the whole list of files being loaded.
Last Known Working Configuration does the same as loading normally.

Any ideas on what might have gone wrong?

Thanks a lot !

Hello, i got one of those classic problems you are probably sick to read about on these forums.
This one could however be slightly more interesting than the usual ones...it is to me, at least.

to sum it up before you read the whole story:
I'm stuck in a limited user account(on winXP pro SP2) with:
-A critical STOP: 0x000000F4 BSOD when i try to acess admin level accounts which isnt corrected by a windows repair
-impossibility to use the "run as administrator" option on anything even if i know the admin password
-impossibility to access safe mode (the pc resets as soon as the account choice menu pops out)
-impossibility to delete or overwrite any file made with the admin account, launch msconfig etc.

The cause doesn't seem to be:
Lately my system (windows XP pro) became slightly unstable, with some random runtime errors and similar things.
I decided to use the windowsXP cd to "repair a current installation of windowsXP" to avoid losing data.

Hi all.

Just as a forewarning, I wasn't too sure where to place this thread, so if I made a mistake, I apologise.

Before I begin, the situation with my current configuration is this:

20GB master: WinXP Home, apps and utilities
10GB slave: games

OK, now for my post. I have come into possession of another 20GB hard drive from a friend, who is upping his to an 80GB drive. It is the same model as my master drive, so I shouldn't think that there would be compatibility issues. I am concerned, though, since it has its own Windows installation on it (although I will be repartitioning and formatting for my games and, possibly, Linux). He has the same build as my machine (see signature, we both worked at the same place, and they were getting rid of the older machines).

I have a couple of questions for you all:

1. Would replacing my 10GB slave with this one knock my current installation out of place, even if it is set as slave? Are thare any precautions I must take, besides the obvious ones of jumper settings and static (I've been less than successful with this sort of venture in the past, even when everything was done right)?

2. What should I do about the games? Can I just copy them to C: drive, and then back when I am done, or would it be less hassle to uninstall then reinstall them?

Thank you in advance.

A:Solved: An interesting brain teaser

Can't see any problems with that .....but I would uninstall the games and re-install them on the new dive.

I've been wrapping my mind around this for a few weeks now.

My company has DHCP running on a 2003 machine. We use as our range. For some reason, I blame it on the mice, is not routable outside our network. Whenever one of our DHCP clients picks up this IP, they can browse locally, but that's it.

I've used I.P scan utilities to check and see if someting within my network is somehow using that address, but nothing comes up. No other IP in that range has a problem. We've even removed the scope, and re-added it.

Again, it's not a critical problem, since I removed that IP from my scope. Just thought you guys may have some insight.

A:Solved: Very interesting but non-crucial situation

Many routers, don't know if you're using one, have the ability to prevent WAN access to a given IP or MAC address.

Here is a problem that I am having. It could just be because our computer needs to be upgraded a little bit but never know.

So, I just reformated my computer a week ago tomorrow. Just got the sound working again on it and we have now noticed that there is something going on with the computer. Its not because of the sound or anything like that. Its been going on since reformat pretty much. It will freeze, but not in the general sense. It happens every so often. Probably 3 or 4 times a day. But when it freezes you are still able to move the mouse, music still plays, and everything continues working. You can switch between open programs and surf the web while it is "frozen". You can't open anything, but you can close somethings. Task Manager won't open and you can't close a non-responsive program when you hit End Now.

Another thing that might have something to do with this is in the Task Manager, when the computer isn't frozen, there are 8 or so svchost.exe processes running. Whats up with that?

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I have Windows XP SP2, running on a HP a1050y. 2x 256kb RAM, onboard video, sound. Nothing custom about this computer. My CPU is a 2.8Ghz.

Thanks guys.

Hi guys,
I'm having a small, yet interesting problem:
A while ago my short cut for explorer, winkey + E, stopped working. Instead of opening up explorer it only reacts to the winkey input and opens the start menu (as if the E was never pressed). It's quite odd, since the other short cuts work fine (winkey + D, winkey + M, etc...). I haven't done anything special as far as I can recall, I'm simply bewildered.

I've done some research but finally gave up. And then lightning struck me, you guys are helping me with viruses on my friends computer, so this should be the place to go!

Hoping for some genius to clear out this little dilemma of mine Cheers, you guys rock!

Hi all I am just wondering if this problem I seem to be having with Firefox is one which everyone is having. I believe I have the most recent version of Firefox and I am finding that when I start up Firefox everything is fine, all my toolbars and everything appear just fine. However, the problem I am experiencing happens when I go to close or minimize Firefox, all the sudden my X and Max/Min buttons have disappeared, the button/drop down menu on the left which says Firefox is still there but the buttons on the right aren't (they are there when I start it up).

I find it interesting though that even though the buttons aren't there if I click in the respective area where the X button would be it will exit the browser or if I click the respective area where the Max/Min button is it will maximize or minimize the browser.

Not really that big of a problem, but I am just wondering if this is intentional feature or if it is a bug in the programing of the browser.

First off let me say thanks to everyone who is going to help me; this site has helped me numerous times via searching and posting, so again thanks. On to the problem……………

I have a Medion PC (motherboard – MSI MS-7046, P4, 512 MB RAM. (if you need more info just ask…but don’t make fun of my tiny PC, I know it needs to be upgraded but it is just a house PC)

I connect to the internet via a WLAN USB wireless connector (Netopia 802.11b – model # SWL-2300U) and this problem is that I can only connect to an unsecured wireless connection (any unsecured connection…I have tried 3 different ones and they all work when in range), but I cannot connect to a security enabled wireless network. When I click connect, instead of prompting me to provide a password (which I have) it attempts to detect the network type. Then after about 20 sec. it sends me the following message, “Windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks, and try to connect again.” But when I refresh the connection it is still there (as it was before with a good signal strength – 3 or more bars). It does this with any security-enabled wireless network.

Things I have done – reloaded the drivers for the adapter, updated the drivers (via manufacture website), checked the device manager to see that it is working correctly. Not sure what else to do, hence my current post….help.

Any help from you guys would be great, it i... Read more

I consider myself pretty computer literate and I will describe this problem as best I can. About 2 weeks ago I unhooked my laptop from my Gateway FHD2400 monitor and took it with me out and about. I have used this monitor/laptop setup for almost 2 years with no major problems. I don't remember any kind of serious bump or fall which could have damaged it while I was out. Yet when I got back and attempted to hook it up to my monitor, nothing. No reaction, I had no idea what the problem was. Tried a couple of restarts which didn't do anything so I just left it for a bit.

The next week I hooked up my monitor to my friends laptop using my HDMI cord and it worked no problem, so I assumed my HDMI port was damaged and ordered a VGA cable.I also hooked up my laptop to his T.V via my HDMI port and cable and that worked also. I don't know why I didn't check this before I ordered the VGA cable but I didnt. So the VGA cable arrived today but when I went to hook it up to my monitor, again nothing. My graphics card is a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with the most current driver (downloaded today) and the rest of my specs are in my profile.

An addition detail to this is that when the problem first happend (2 weeks ago) I was running Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit and have since upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I did a complete wipe and reinstallation. Before this however I downloaded a utility from gateway called EZ tune which basically allows you further control a... Read more

My pals laptop won't power up. I said I would at least save his data by putting the HD in a caddy.

Did that and I am unable to open the documents files. I suspect this is because he had a boot password in his windows user settings. I may be wrong in assuming that is why I can't open.

A dialogue box opens and says click to continue, but when I do all I get is a black window open and no action.

I am wondering if there os something I can either do or if there's software out there like OPH crack which allows you to see passwords. It's a shot in the dark, but I would like to be able to rescue his work timesheets if I can

Many thanks in anticipation

I have a large file that I print many times and there are some pages included in the list that are not needed and I throw away every time.

Other than print twice, I'm sure there is a macro that can be programmed to skip those pages, or maybe a macro to link the two print ranges.

Can anyone get me started?

Like so many others before me, I have an issue and want help... And I’d be very grateful to anyone who can help...

So... yesterday, I believe, I was browsing around the internet... and I got the typical "This page cannot be displayed" error when I attempted to go to one of my heavily frequented websites. I refreshed a few times, as I thought the error popped up a bit quickly (and everyone knows that IE will, on occasion, toss that error at you for no good reason -_-)... but to no avail...

I shrugged, and went off to another of my regular websites. Same error. Now this struck me as odd. I refreshed a few times... both of these websites are LARGE websites... and generally are not down... one of them can be slow and sluggish on occasion, but very rarely down... Perhaps there was something wrong with my net connection? A few other clicks around the internet revealed that some websites would still load normally as though there was nothing wrong... So maybe just those websites, then?

I sent links to a few friends of mine over Yahoo!... all three of them said that the two webpages that would not load at all loaded fine for them... ...Even odder.

After a bit more experimentation, I discovered:

Some websites Will Not Show Up. At all. I get 'This page cannot be displayed" errors until the cows come home.

Some websites will display fine.

Some websites will give me 'page cannot be displayed' errors for the first several refreshes, then will... Read more

Good afternoon Tech Immortals,

I am working on a friend's computer.
The hardware setup is the following:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5000+ 2.1GHz

2.5 GB RAM CRUCIAL (Memtest says the following about it: DDR2(64 bit)
373MHz DDR746 CAS: 5-5-15

Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT pci-e

MSI K9N6PGM2-V motherboard

The problems:

Problem1. When the computer is turned on it gives out 2 short beeps (memory error, I presume according to an Internet search). Then it loads GRUMP for Ubuntu 9 or Win XP pro
Problem2. Anything that is graphics intensive makes the computer crash or graphics get glitchy. For example videogames will either make windows crash or crash the game and exit to windows. On Ubuntu while running Compiz the OS freezes. It only crashes or glitches with graphic intensive software.

Solution tried:
For problem1. While loading GRUMP there is an option for memtest. Diagnostics came out fine, no errors.

More background information:
I've inspected the motherboard, the graphics card, ram, everything (looking at it physically for any burns or liquid spills etc)
Everything is roughly 4 months old, bought brand new when purchased.
In the past the user had the same setup except that his old graphics card (GeForce BFG TECH 8800 GT) died on him (will get further details about that in about an hour).
Replaced for graphics card mentioned above. Those problems are occurring.
The card gets warm, but not to an alarming point (I want to say around 60 degrees celcius).... Read more

I haven't been on windows 98 or 98SE alot so I was wondeing, If you put a Cd-writer (burner) in a computer with windows 98 or 98se (which I just did) why when ;you go to my computer and right click on the E dirve is there not a recording tab and other tabs like in windows xp, I know the answer will probably be------because your not using XP----------But I was wondering. The one I put in had NERO with it and I like NERO anyway however I would like to know for future purposes.

Why when you go to mycomputer and right click on the E drive (the burner) don't you have the recording tab and the rest like XP. I like doing it that way in XP where you can move all files or copy files and then go to the burner and say write these files to cd.

Does windows 98 or 98SE have this and I am just missing it or is a burning program like NERO or another the only way to use the burning in 98 or 98SE?

Thanks for the help

A:Solved: Windows 98 and/or 98SE-question about burning CDs, is there a record tab etc-Question

lol, you answered your own question, windows 95,98,98se,and ME don't support cd burning, except with 3rd party software. When you purchase any of the NT systems (ie: xp, NT 4, Server 2003, 2000 PRO etc...) all have the NT kernel which if you look during your install say " Windows (whatever version) is built on NT technology" and "You now have built in CD burning" soon and perhaps with the upcoming service pack 2, it will start coming with DVD burning capability.

I believe the only windows kernel out that currently supports cd burning is the NT one
