usb requests any and all devices be reformated

Q: usb requests any and all devices be reformated

Whenever I plug a device into a USB port it says cannot proceed without formating the device, even though the device (photo card, flash drive, etc) always worked before. I don't dare format the device because I don't want to lose the information stored. I've tried everything I can find and still cannot solve the problem. Sure do need help.
Operating system is Windows 7, 64 bit pro. Exployer 9. Every thing else seems to be working OK except after updating my drivers the other day Exployer 9 seems to have problems downloading many graphic displays from websites. May be entirely different problem not connected to USB problem as that started more recently. USB is my main problem. I work from home so I'm usually around the computer much of the day or evening.

Preferred Solution: usb requests any and all devices be reformated

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

This was caused by your USBPORT.sys either the driver is bad and should be re-installed, or the external hub has a problem. How many un-powered USB devices do you have?

Hi guys, i just reformated my drive today, but think i have been given a virus or spyware of some sort. im using windowsxp home edition
When i reformated i installed my drivers for graphics card sound card and then i installed my modem, it connected to make sure it was working it must have only been on for like 30 seconds then i disconnected, (this is before ANY windows update and i never had my firewall on) when i disconnected i got a windows message saying another person or program is trying to dial my connection asking if i should let it, it stated xxxtoolbar.com,

I then installed everything i need and all thewindows updates including sp2. Then i was just browsing my computer and seen in my program files a folded titled ***** (sorry for language but you might need to know the exact word)

i certainly never put it there and i dont think its a new addition included in windows update
The folder was empty

i deleted it and further browsing i was looking at my system processes in task manager and seen a lot of things that where not there before the reformat , namely, Navprotect.exe im told this is norton anti virus,, but i dont and never have had norton anti virus
I ended the prosses and went to msconfig so i could stop it from starting when i booted up, i unlcliked and rebooted but it was there on start up, i went to services and could not see anything that looks like it could be it(but i dont know what im looking at anyway)

Hey to all who reads my post.

I just got done reformating my computer, I put all the drivers in etc. When trying to get on the internet I get a warning from Microsoft (I think IE8) saying it has encountered a problem and needs to shut down. I have looked through about 5 post on here but nothing answering what I have (its tuff using this phone to look on here to !!), trying a few things like start, run, iexplore exe, it says it can't be found. I looked in accessories, system tools, and supposed to be internet , but no internet. So I am thinking this might be the problem, what do I need to do to get the computer linked up to the internet? Could there be another problem? If possible I would put fire fox on there but I can't keep the internet up long enough to down load anything.

I have windows Xp media center edition, computer is a Dell xps 400, and Time Warner cable is my internet provider.

A:Solved: Just reformated my computer.

I assume that you installed XP after formatting and before installing drivers.

Do you have service pack 3? Latest chipset and networking drivers from Dell's web site?

If you used a Dell XP installation CD that includes bloatware did you uninstall the Norton or McAfee or whatever security suite?

This computer is a factory built HP Palivion Intel pentium D with Windows XP Pro 32bit sp3 preformance edition

I got my old computer working (bought new in 2003) I played around with it for a few hours untill I figured I'd change the ram, I did and it worked fine! Then I took em out again and replaced them with the old ones, then I tried a different video card but then suddently I got no signal to either screens or keyboard/mouse, so I took out the video card and replaced it with the old one, but I still had the same problem.. I had no idea what this was so I tried various of things, changing ram, reseting cmos and so on. Nothing worked until my uncle tried, he figured it was the sound card which was corrupt, as when he took it out the computer started up just fine with signals to everyuthing, but when it was about to load the user screen, right after xp boots up, I got a bluescreen with the error

PFN_LIST_CORRUPT *** STOP:0x0000004E (0x0000008F, 0x00065c0d, 0x00064c0d, 0x00000000)

But the computer started up fine in Safe Mode, so we searched for this error and figured it was a currupt driver (probably the one for the sound card?) So now I was left with only one option, reformate the comp! So I did, I installed the OS I wrote above but I managed to **** things up again, I can't say how but it agian would only function in safe mode, so I reformated the disks blank and installed the OS again, now I can't run the system recovery at start up ... A:Reformated Computer - Bluescreen?

If you go to HP support and go to the drivers section for your specifc HP model, there is usually a way to order recovery disks for that model.

Here is an example, this is not your model most likely so don't order using this page

scroll down to "CD-ROM order page - Recovery Discs" and there is a link to order the recovery set.

Start here and enter the exact model and number of Your Laptop (printed on the underside of most HP laptops), then choose "Software & Driver downloads", then your OS.

Greetings and god bless whoever is reading this and can help!

Our computers at work recently contracted a Trojan Virus. Our last resort was to reformat all the computers. All is working except for the audio - there is none.

When trying to play windows media player material, for example, the following error message appears: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There may not be a sound device installed on your computer, it may be in use by another program, or it may not be functioning properly." (Error code: 0x00D11BA in "more help" section).

Under the Device Manager, we have SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio which displays itself as working properly.

After surfing these tech forums for help, I took the advice to download drivers and software directly from the manufacturer's website. I tried downloading drivers from Dell (which didn't seem to work), so proceeded to Microsoft (which didn't help) and finally onto Intel (same result or lack there of) but I cannot seem to get anything that works and realize I am doing something (possibly everything) wrong.

So if someone out there could give some advice, I would appreciate it very much and thanks a lot for your time.

A:reformated computer with Win XP Pro, no sound

Welcome to TSG, sothbaguio.

Start > Control panel > Switch to Classic view (if you are not already) > Sounds and audio devices.

On the first tab, does it list anything?

If it says no audio device present, click the audio tab, Under "Sound playback" default device, check the drop down list. Look for Soundmax. If it's there, select it, then apply and ok.

If that doesn't work, post the model of the dell so we can assist you with locating drivers.

I posted about my computer a while back, but didn't get any help. Hoping I can at least get some suggestions this time as our new tech person won't be back from vacation for another week and a half.

Our previous tech person did a reformat on my computer after I told him that it would not stay connected to the network in our office. After he brought my reformatted computer back, I was still having issues with it - I had used Dreamweaver earlier in the day, and later, when I tried to open a Word doc., the screen blinked, then turned blue. 'Course, my first thought was the BSD, but I tried a restart and the computer came up fine. The next day, I was working along as usual, and tried to open a different Word doc. Screen blinked, then turned purple. Did another hard shut down, wrote down what I did/what happened, then started the computer back up and continued to work. The next day, same thing, but this time I had had Dreamweaver open previously. The screen turned a rusty color, which was the color of the background I was using on a web page. That reminded me of the previous purple screen, which also happened to be the color of a web page I had worked on a few days prior.

So, uninstalled Dreamweaver, called tech guy and told him what was going on. He came and checked things out, blah, blah, blah. Couldn't find anything wrong.

In the meantime, our network was causing issues, and when I was telling a different tech person about it, he said that our hub (we w... Read more

I just wiped out and reinstalled a friends XP Home Edition. All shows well in Device Manager. I was able to locate all the drivers on Dell's site. My friend had several installation CDs so I think he is back in business.

I have one problem. When the computer first starts it gives me a choice of Windows Home Edition or Windows Home Edition with a countdown timer. I remember having one of these when I dual booted Windows XP and Vista.

If I let the timer run down it goes right into Windows XP and all is well. I tried selecting the second listing of Windows XP Home Edition and it showed it could not boot into Windows.

Is there a way to shorten the time before booting into Windows? If I shorten it to zero will I still get the double listing of Windows XP Home Edition? How can I get rid of the second listing?

I checked the drives and there is only one drive listed C and it shows as the primary drive and is healthy.

Thanks for any and all suggestions. I would really like to correct this before sending it back to my friend.

Hi!Right click on My Computer > Properties. Click on the Advanced tab. In a section labeled Startup and Recovery click on Settings. You can set the options from there. Also, you can manually edit the boot.ini file by clicking edit, however, make sure that you know what you're doing, otherwise, it may cause your computer to not boot at all.

Hi, Solid_Froggy.

Please upgrade Hijackthis:

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Your Java seems to be out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version of Java components and upgrade the application. Beware it is NOT supported for use in 9x or ME and probably will not install in those systems

Ugrading Java:

I had many Trojans on my Sony Vaio VGN-FW139E so I decided just to complete a clean install (not a single virus/spyware program would update before).

Using the recovery wizard I did a complete Restore of the C:drive. Setup windows and my internet and installed Malaware Bytes ; which wouldnt update right off the bat-and yes, I looked at my firewall. Right now Im using Avira(updated) but Spyware Doctore/MalawareBytes/SAS wont update
Certain websites tell me that I have the:

Only way to get that off is SpywareDoc ..that wont update.
Why would I be getting this spyware ect... directly after completeing a full restore of the PC?

Any help would be great!

After two weeks of fighting, I finally got our lap top to reformat and Reload XP Home. I have followed the steps on re-installiing XP that was posted several times, my problem is it has been "stuck" on the wallpaper screen, with the bottom task bar loaded and the recycle bin icon present. The light indicating the drive is busy has stayed on and I can hear the disk moving.

Does it normally take an hour and half to get this far after pressing the " finish" button on the install?

I apologize in advance i this isn't the correct forum to post this question (please move topic to the appropriate one if I've mis-posted), but here goes.

Computer got a very nasty virus that compromised the security of the computer so i decided to reinstall XP.

I re-installed w/o a problem, but I noticed my internet wasn't working. I went into the device manager and noticed that the following iteems had no driver installed (which would explain the problem w/the internet)

Ethernet controller
multimedia audio controller
network controller
raid controller
raid controller
universal serial bus (usb) controler
video controller (vga compatible)

How can identify what these items actually are so i can download the appropriate driver on a different computer, burn to disc and install on the computer that the drivers are missing on? (unless there that a) wont work or there's a better way about going about this.

A:Re-installed/Reformated XP - Now Have driver issues

Visit the website of either the system manufacturer (if the system is a Dell, Gateway, eMachines, etc.)...or visit the website of the motherboard manufacturer (if the system is a custom/self-built) and download/install the drivers earmarked for those functions for that system/motherboard...which are for XP.

hello, what's up again. Found the problem to windows/system32/sytem config. If you play some games like Never Winter Nights, Spysweeper removes this from windows, when boot up it crashes your PC, It can take 20 boots or one. It took me 4 months to figure this out. Leave it off when installing.
But here is my small prob. I cleaned my pc, I partitioned my one hard Drive, the other left intacked. I cleaned it up pretty good. Before hand I had this major boot delay on the windows logo. It takes about 2 minutes. It uses to take 10 seconds. My First motherboard failed, and had it replaced by Manufac. Booted up fast, 10 secs. Back to slow boot again. Then I noticed my video display on games choppy. I have an Okay video card. Downloaded the latest video drivers. Pc now overall very slow. I Really feel positive it is the motherboard configuration, because what I spoke about above NWN crash might have something to do with the BIOS, because I had to use the other hardrive, install windows on it to get it to boot, got what I needed off the crashed windows HD and started all over again. PC I think was sluggish after this . I did notice this everyone, on my MOBO the serial ata boots from the secondary slot. I had to swap the serial cables to get it to boot. I really wish I new more about configing the Bios. I built this PC with a friend that works the PC systems for our county so I know it isn't a hardware problem. (I hope) but I like comming here an... I'd advise running a scan for viruses (using some anti-virus program), then one for spyware/malware (using Ad-aware and/or Spybot).

Such slowdowns could also be caused by extreme fragmentation of the data on the hard drive (95%+, which is nearly impossible for a casual user) or the drives not running in UDMA mode (ATA33/66/100/133/150....), but in PIO mode. Check the DMA settings in Windows and in the BIOS.
In Windows it's at: Start - Settings - Control panel - System - Hardware - Device manager - IDE/ATAPI controllers - Right click on Primary/Secondary channel - Properties - Special settings

Hey everyone, this is a very strange problem. In my past experiences with reformationg WindowsXP, it usually auto detects my connection and everythings fine.

Im behind a D-Link DI604 Router.

I tried unpluging and pluging in my ethernet cord, and usually i would have gotten a msg in the bottom right corner saying something like, Local Area Connection Lost, or something to those lines.

Im on cable, so no dial up or anything needed.

Any ideas if this could be the router? Before i reformated the internet worked properly. ANY HELP at all would be appreciated, i dont think i need to post my system specs for something like this?

EDIT: When i go to Network Connections. Theres a connection thats named '1394 connection' and the status is at 0 packets sent and 0 packets recieved

After reinstalling windows XP and installing the drivers that came with the motherboard the computer still could not detect my network or connect to the internet. I've tried updating the drivers for the motherboard (a nivida nforce 3) but they do not change anything. Does anyone have any idea why the computer wouldn't connect?

just reformatted my computer and my graphics card is messed up somehow. it's not as "clear" as before. when i try to play starcraft 2 it saids, "The videocard is not accessible because no display drivers are installed, another 3D application has exclusive access or the machine was locked. Please close any 3D applications or games and try starting StarCraft II again. Rebooting your system may also unlock the videocard. If the problem persists, for more information consult our support website." It was once of the clues that something was up. I installed the driver and the catalyst but don't think that's helping. when i go to device mangers there's an exclamation mark on my card. I googled this up and they told me to go to BIOS and switch it to PEG, so the motherboard can activate the graphics card but i do not see an option for that in my BIOS. is the windows 7 bios different? I'm going to post some images that popped up.

I noticed on my network connections, this is all that shows up:

shouldnt there be other LAN connections or something like that? Im trying to bridge a connection so that I can plug my xbox live ethernet cable straight into my laptop, and use it as a "wireless" tool. Ive done it before, but I just reformatted windows like I said.

Just loaded WinXP after reformating my dicks (due to some crazy virus). My intial intention was just to repair my OS then it became clear I had to reformat it which took all day yesterday, and I know before doing this I would lose EVERYTHING saved on the disks. I just dont know how to get drivers and programs back.
I have no Wireless Network Connection....only 1394 Connection.
I think that if I can get online from that computer, I should be ok.
Help me get online please!
