I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have Lenovo Yoga 910. It's a couple years old. Suddenly I experienced lagging with the keyboard. Every button must be pushed at least a couple of seconds to appear or response. Some buttons are worst than the others. I called Lenovo and was advised to try to do hard reset by pressing down the power button for 45 seconds followed by pressing the Nuvo button but that didn't work. The problem was still happening. It's not windows upgrade related because this issue was also happening in BIOS when clicking on the arrow buttons and pgup/down buttons. I also tested it in Safe mode and it's still lagging. I even tried restoring the original windows version that came from Lenovo and still didn't work. After researching on the net, some were saying to unplug the battery cable and plug back in to solve the issue. So i did that, I unplug the battery cable but NOW....I have a different problem, worst than before.Pressing the power button doesn't do anything, the laptop doesn't start up. When i plugged in the charger, orange light next to it is blinking. According to Lenovo manual that this means the battery is under 20% but I left it charged overnight and it's still the same (orange light blinking). Also pressing the power button still doesn't do anything. But i noticed if i keep on pressing the power button, it will blink white lights every 20 seconds or so.The battery was in good condition because I did Lenovo diagnostic before I unplug the battery cable so I don't think this is batter... I have a Yoga 13, 219159367091, that I just upgraded the RAM and replaced the main battery.  Since I have done the service the battery charging light stays amber all the time the Yoga is on.  Everything works fine and all the diagnostic tools report no problems.  I cannot find any information to what the problem may be.  Could it be inidicating the UEFI battery needs to be replaced?

I don't know why the first desktop I've ever owned that broke down is a Dell, but it definitely upsets me seeing as how I spent over $2000 on my XPS 420, and less than $600 on any other computer I've ever owned (which I used for 4+ years on average).  I've had this computer for exactly 1.5 years.  It's had a couple of glitches, such as the HDMI cable not working if the computer gets shut off, computer turning itself on sporadically when it is in sleep mode, etc... but this morning it stopped functioning completely. What's worse about all of this, is the $2000 computer I paid for lacks customer support, I have to pay for it.  Of all the "cheapo" computers I've used in the past, I was ALWAYS able to call the manufacturer for free if there was any issue, regardless of how long I'd owned it.
I was awoken by the whirring of the main fan on my computer (another one of those times when the computer decides it's time to wake itself up without anyone's input), except this time the computer never finished it's turn on phase (you know, when the fan quiets down and the thing powers up), I just kept hearing the fan that sounded like a skipping record (sound of it went up and down very fast, over and over and over again, and never stopped).  I looked at it, and the power button was solid amber.  I tried shutting it down and restarting, and again, the same thing.  I went through Dell's lengthy online he... A:XPS 420 Won't Start, Solid Amber Light

Wow, this can not be a strange coincidence.  I also have an XPS 420.  I awoke this morning,7/4/09, to it in what appeared to be sleep mode.  Amber power button.  But it would not wake.  I have gone through every part as well and can not get it to post.
Just as above It will make a sound as if one of the fans is running, or trying to run.  A soft repedable skiping sound is heard.
And of corse I am now out of warenty.

The amber light below the start button is always bust like somethings running in the background or as if something is trying to instale. Does anyone know why this light is continuously on?

A:Amber Light Below Start Button

Are you referring to your casing start button?

If so, that is the light of your HardDisk activity. It is normal for it to blink.

I recently brought a pre built gaming PC and wanted to start upgrading it. I brought the graphics card listed above and the power supply at that same time and have been using them for about 5 months with no issues. I then brought the case about a month ago and again no issues with that on my old build. This weekend I finally brought a new CPU, motherboard and RAM as listed above. I set up all the components inside the chassis as per usual with no problems. All the necessary cables were plugged in. I followed the case and motherboard manuals instructions when it came to connecting the front I/o headers. Once this was all complete I connected the power supply and turned it on to test everything. Immediately after switching the power supply on, an amber light appeared on the motherboard above the front/Io connectors. I looked in the manual and online and nothing said why this is. (Note the RGB lights on the motherboard were also on.) I then attempted to turn on the pc using the chassis buttons but this did nothing. I looked online and tried to follow some tips. This led to me taking it all out the chassis and trying to run the motherboard externally. I set up the motherboard with the CPU and heatsink in with one stick of RAM. I then turned on the power supply and attempted to short start the motherboard. Nothing... Read more

Dell E510 Intell Pentium D, 1g memory, WinXP

I have been having a problem starting my computer from the tower.Called Dell* the first time but it just happened to start up while I was talking to them. They said I probably pushed the button on a slant?
Well it has happened twice since. I shut down normally last night & this morning pushed the start button (made sure I wasn't "slanted") same thing . I get a flashing orange light and then a voice that says "Press repeat button to receive setup instructions".

Where is a repeat button? I have held the start button in for a minimum of 3 minutes but it won't shut off. Pulled power & let it sit for 15 min. & tried again..flashing orange. So I just let it continue flashing and this time it finally shut off. Went to start again..walla..it started! Now this is the third time and I am afraid the next time it won't start ever.
Someone out there able to help?

*Was surprised at Dell trying to sell me tech help in North America so I could get faster response time & a North American. This was before they would start to answer my question!

Hi, this is my first post and I have never used any other forum so i hope I'm diong things the right way.

I have a Dell Optiplex Gx280 and it won't start, an amber light is flashing in the power button. I have read the manual and it states the following:

If the power light is blinking amber ?

The computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.

Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location (if applicable).
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.

I did both things but it still does'nt power up.

I opened the comptuer and the stand by power light is on, (the one in the system board). I don't know if this is ok.

What else can i do?

Thanks for your help.

How long have you had this machine? Is it brand new? If so take it back. If it's not new, what is the last thing you did to your machine? Any modifications? You are not getting any signal. An amber light means it's running but it's not going to show up on the screen.

Hi everyone, strangest thing happened this morning...

Ok so i was sitting down watching a video on my computer, and then i got hungry and i paused the video and made some cereal, i came back into my room to find my computer with an orange light glowing, and the monitor was black and not recieving any input...

I have a gateway that i got from an old friend, and so now i can't turn on or off the computer with the button, i plug in the cord to the power supply and the computer turns on automatically with an orange light, and it can't be shut off without pulling out the power supply cord...
i tried unplugging the supply from everything except the motherboard to see if maybe i was overloading it, but nope still same reaction.. so then i took an extra power supply i had, and it did the same exact thing, tried one more supply, same thing.. again!
i was plugging the supply into an extension, (6 outlets on one box thing) and so i thought maybe it wasn't recieving enough electricty, so i plugged it into the wall and it still did the same thing... but i know the video card still works because i tried it on another computer, and i know the ram is fine, and i can't figure what it is, because i tried 3 different power supplies and NONE of them worked! oh and i know my hard drives are in good condition, so i need some help!

HP Pavilion laptop won't start. Charger plugged in, charging light turns white like supposed to but then immediately changes to a constant orange light. No blinking lights anywhere. I tried a hard reset by removing adapter, removing battery, holding power button for 30 seconds, putting battery back in, and then putting adapter back in. Same reoccurrence turning white to an immediate constant orange. I did notice however, when I left the adapter in and removed the battery pack the light was constant white like it usually is when my laptop works, but would not turn on. Is this a simple, "I need to buy a new battery" situation? I don't want to spend the money if it's something larger than that. Any help?

Hi there,

Situation the same whether battery attached or not.

Any suggestions on how to proceed would be gratefully received.

Im going to guess a failed battery, power supply problem, or a bad motherboard. The battery will be easy to replace the other ones may or may not be easily fixable.

Hi I made a thread yesterday regarding a minor PC problem I had while trying to install windows XP on my uncles PC the problem was solved thankfully.

I now have an even bigger problem of my own with my PC.
I turned my PC on in the evening and the monitor screen was blank and displayed a blinking orange light, the fan does come on. I doubled checked the wires to see if any were loose but everything is inserted correctly.

What’s weird is the PC that I was installing windows on yesterday was doing the same thing but once you turn it off and turn it back on it would be fine and load windows.
But my one is not even doing that, there is nothing wrong with the monitor has I have brought it recently and I also checked the PC using my brother’s monitor and the same thing happens.

Once I finished installing windows on my uncles PC I turned my PC on and watched highlights of a soccer game so it actually was working last night. But I have no clue as to what has happened?
Can someone please help me?

I had previously hooked this up to my big screen via the hdmi.  The next morning I went to turn it on and got nothing.  Holding the power button down with power plugged in, not plugged in any combination for 1 - 120 seconds produces the same exact result.  The little light on the " i " lights up for exactly 4 seconds and then nothing.  I have tried a different power cord and get the exact same result.  I have tried using the emergency reset with a needle on the back of the device...same result. Any help would be great.

Hey there, everyone.I've got this 2 year old ThinkPad Yoga 12 that was working fine one day, and then won't boot at all the next. No screen activity, no backlight on keyboard, nothing except for a solid light on the "i" and then nothing. I've tried taking out both batteries, I've tried all kinds of combos of power button pushing, and I tried the reset switch. That caused the light to blink three times and now it's not doing anything. It does blink when I put the power cord in. Is my mobo borked, or is there something I haven't tried? Thank you!!!

Hello World.   I'm not able to power up a Yoga Ideapad 15.  When I press the power button, its led starts blinking, in synchonicity with the power light indicator, making a short blink every almost 5 seconds.   I've dissasemblied it. Fan cooler tries to start, but suddenly stops. This issue repeats every 5 seconds, same time as the laptop blinks.  I've tried common steps (like keeping the power button pressed with no battery and no charger). So, if anyone has a possible solution, I'll appreciate your help. Thanks a lot!

When I was playing a game the other day my DELL XPS 8500 froze turning the screen into green and yellow lines as well as freezing the sound into a continuous set of dissonant tomes. I turned the computer off using the power button. When restarting the computer wouldn't start properly.
On restart, the fan starts as usual and the computer appears to be starting normally for the first few seconds, then the HD lamp goes out and nothing more happens. The screen has power but is black all the time. Some USB slots seems to have stopped working while some still appears to work as lights go on on the items attached to them. The mouse seems to actually have been broke. Some lights on the mouse lights up but not the laser underneath. Testing the mouse in another computer gives the same result.
Opening the cover reveals an orange light lit up on the motherboard.
Any help in identifying the problem apreciated

A:XPS 8500 will not start, orange light on motherboard, will not boot, BIOS inaccessible, black screen

Orange LED on motherboard means absolutely nothing.  It only indicates that 5VSB power is available.
Green and Yellow Lines indicate GPU fan failure and overheat damage.
Disconnect the Data Line for the hard drive and turn on.
It should show failure at that point.
If it does not there are other problems.

Hi I've had the Dell XPS 8700 for over a year now and it's an excellent Desktop.
I've recently moved my tower to a new location and notice there is a solid orange light on all the time inside the PC, I believe it's on the motherboard... should I be worried this is on all the time? It's just I've never noticed it before.
Also on the back of the PC there is a solid green light, I'm guessing this is to just tell me the PC has Power.
I tried a google search but everyone with the orange light seems to have PC issues, my pc is working fine as far as I can tell.

A:Dell XPS 8700 Orange Light inside and Green Light on Back

LED on the motherboard will be on as long as the PC is plugged into a working outlet. It's perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, that LED will go off. Again, perfectly normal...
Green LED says there's power to the PSU.

When the power button is off there is a green light near the power plug and then it turns off as I turn on the power button.
Before this event, the power button was orange and fans were all working. Next the power button flashed between orange and blue then stops and continues about 3 times. Then it turned off all fans and the power button stays orange. (Both senerios were unable to power the monitor, mouse, and keyboard and does not emit a green light around the ethernet cable.)

Hi just joined and my first post. Have been searching for possible solutions to my hardware problem on the net and hope someone here can help! Have a Dell Dimension C521 which is just over 2 yrs old. Over the last few weeks have had problems turning it on and off. There's a solid amber light on main switch. At first I could resolve by unplugging and restarting which did the trick but it seems to be getting worse. I can still get it to come on - sometimes it's after a few attempts but other times it takes 40 or 50! Once on it works fine. Took it to a local shop (who couldn't start it at all!) but they tested power supply which was ok and a few other things (not sure what) and said they thought it was probably the motherboard. Can anyone advise about this - would a motherboard fault cause this kind of intermitent problem / deterioration over time? One new thing today is when trying to turn it on sometimes the on/off button doesn't click at all. Not confident to start dismantling it and taking things out etc! Can't find any useful info on Dell site - is there any point trying to run the Dell diagnostic tool (F12 when Dell logo appears shortly after start up). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

Yes, it could be the motherboard,or the memory, or the CPU. I recently had a C521 come in with a failed processor.

About a month ago I got my brothers extremely old pc from about 2008 ( the optiplex 320) and he gave it to me but it had a broken graphics card I believe, because everything was always tinted green but once I got the new graphics card (geforce GT 730) it worked fine but it had only two 1Gb sticks of ram so at that point I was just gonna try and wait till I had enough money get some more ram but that time never came because I got caught up in a bunch of other stuff, but recently I got it back out and got my stuff set back up and plugged it all in and noticed a flashing orange light on the power button which I've never seen before and I constantly tried different outlets different cords and everything, and I've come to the point where I'm like 70% sure its the mother board because when I unplug everything from the PSU except the hard drive and I plug it in the light doesn't flash and the computer starts actually making noise (before nothing happened but a flashing light). Another thing I noticed was before when I first got the graphics card the fan on it spun but now when I unplug everything from it except the hard drive it doesn't but it's probably just because it's not a big enough load to need the fan, but I'm just trying to give as much info as I possible could so I could fix this as soon as possible.

I leave my computer on 24/7, and just yesterday I came back to find no video signal, no audio signal, no keyboard or mouse functionality and a steady amber light on the power button. i turned the computer off, started it up, and found that the hdd fan started up fast and then slowed to a halt as it normally does, but then the system fan spun up to full speed and just remained there (not normal). The diagnostic lights don't turn on, indicating the machine doesn't even make it to the bios. The only signs of life on the machine are the amber power light and the system fan blasting. I turned the machine off, waited, turned it on. same deal. I later opened it up, took out the memory that i added last month, tried every combination of taking out components. I even went barebones, unplugged everything save for the fans (video cards, sound card, vid capture card, hdd's, dvd drives, all unplugged) and all still the same thing. The steady amber power-button light. Also, there is another amber light on the mobo, towards the top. I don't know if that is supposed to be green or what, but that light is also steady amber (anyone know what that light even is? it's not on any support/manual diagram). I'm hoping this is just a connection/power issue, replacing the psu would be much cheaper than replacing my mobo (my 1yr warranty ended a month ago). If there's anything you guys can give me that'll help my situation out, it'd be much appreciated.

That's a classic Dell symbol for a bad power supply, but you can check the four diagnostic lights on the back of the computer against the chart here...

The amber light is constantly on, not flashing just solidly on, whether on or off and regardless of the battery charge percentage.  The battery charges just fine. It's been this way since I got it.  I tried posting for help before but didn't get any responses.

Recently, I lost wifi connection completely on my XPS 8700. The computer cannot detect any router. I noticed that the Realtek wireless adapter was missing in the device manager. Fortunately, the Dell wireless adapter was still available. After enabling this adapter, wifi connection worked again. However, during this trouble shooting, I found that the aux_pwr light turned on even if I shut down the computer.
My questions are:
1. Is the Realtek wireless adapter dead?
2.Why does the aux_pwr light turn on - solid amber light? Is it related to the Realtek wireless adapter issue or it indicate some other issues in my computer?
3. Can I turn off the aux_pwr light or how to trouble shoot? I don't think the aux_pwr light on is normal.
So far, the computer is working fine. Surely, I haven't tested all functionality.
Any help is appreciated!

A:aux_pwr amber light is ON

Are you talking about the LED on the motherboard? That LED should be on as long as the PC is connected to a "live" outlet. It means the motherboard is getting "flea power" and is perfectly normal.
If you unplug the PC from the wall and press/hold the power button for ~15 sec, the motherboard LED should go out.

That makes no sense - to me. There's only one wired and one wireless adapter, but you said there are two wireless. Do you mean the Realtek 8111E Network (integrated) wired Ethernet adapter ?
Have you looked at rear of the PC to see if any LEDs are on, next to the Ethernet (RJ45) port?
Reboot and press F2 to open BIOS setup. Make sure the Onboard LAN Controller option is set to Enabled. Be sure to save any changes before exiting setup.
Is there an "Unknown" device listed in Device Manager?
Have you tried reinstalling the NIC driver? Go to the Support page and select your version of Windows. Then download the Realtek adapter to the desktop and install it. And then reboot.

I have a Dell Dimension 8400 with a Xion 600W power supply to power my NVidea video card. Recently, my computer just shut off with out warning. When I tried to turn it back on, I noticed a blinking amber light on the power button.

I unplugged everything, reseated all components (except CPU), removed all ram, unplugged HDD+Cd/Dvd ROM's, no luck. Replaced the CMOS Battery, no luck. Checked all USB ports for broken/bent pins, none.

I reassembled everything the way it was, no luck. The "inbound current" light is green on my MOBO indicating incoming power. However, the PSU fan will not kick, nor will any of the other fans/components.

I am at my wits end here, as I need my PC. Any other ideas would be appreciated. I think I may just need a new PSU.

It sounds lkie a PSU issue to me.
Check the outputs if you can or just try a different one.
It's not too common for them to blow, but they do.
