Audio buzzing/stuttering during videos/games

Q: Audio buzzing/stuttering during videos/games

After my computer did its usual updates, I've noticed a sound issue whenever I've been trying to play games/watch videos. At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud grinding noise, then resume. This happens with music, streaming videos, games, pretty much everything. If I'm watching a video or playing a game, the screen will freeze for a second, then resume.

I'm using a Dell Inspiron N4110 laptop with Windows 7

I assume I need to install a new driver or something, but I am pretty computer illiterate and don't exactly know what I need/where I need to get it from/how to figure out what I need.

Was hoping someone could help here.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Since the screen will "freeze", suggests the sound problems are just a result of whatever is causing the PC to hang up and not directly a sound problem. Thus another forum section would be more applicable than the sound section.

You can run the Resplendence Latency Mon program and that may help, if you can figure it out as it gives you "information overload".

Hi,
Recently I've been having some problems playing back any sort of media.  At regular intervals the audio will freeze/skip for a second and make a loud buzzing noise, then resume.  This happens with both music and streaming videos. If I'm watching a video, the screen will freeze for a second, buzz, then resume.
I'm using an xps 13 9333 with Windows 8.1 64-bit.
I've tried everything I could think of, updating all my drivers, reinstalling codecs, running anti-virus, and cleaning out my system.
Any suggestions?

I have found a solution 2 days ago Dell installed an update for dell support assist and dell support agent When i removed these programs from the Control panel the problem went away.
I have windows 7 64 bit (dell XPS L720X).

Hi all,

I'm posting in the Windows forum because the exact source of the issue is unknown. If we come up with a more precise cause I would be happy to move the discussion to the appropriate forum.

The problem is a brief sporadic stuttering or digitization noise (very similar to some elements of dubstep music actually). It sounds like a quarter-second of audio is repeated at high speed and then it goes back to normal. This happens with variable frequency; sometimes once every minute or two, sometimes as long as 45 minutes between occurences. The frequency seems at least partially dependent on the graphical output being used, but it's hard to tell for sure. The problem is quite immersion-breaking, and it extends to all uses (local music, streaming, gaming, movies, everything). I suspect that the entire computer (not just the audio) may be pausing/stuttering along with it, because sound effects never get desynced with video; for example when people are talking in movies their lips never get out of sync with their voices, despite the audio pausing while it stutters.

This problem started about 3 weeks ago, and I had not made any hardware or software changes that I am aware of.

Possible solutions I have already tried, without effect:
New GPU (same model as old one)
New PSU (same model as old one)
Disconnecting HDMI
Running only 2 monitors
Adjust NVIDIA settings for performance not quality
Rolling back GPU drivers twice to different versions, then updating
Moving TV a... Read more

I have a brand new Inspiron 7560 and I've been having a lot of issues with the audio and video sort of lagging and making a buzzing noise and stuttering, it happens every 15 minutes when watching something or listening to music.
I had this issue and then got the laptop replaced because I had no idea what the issue was. I don't like returning items but it was brand new and cost a lot so I was worried there was a bigger problem. It happened with the first one from the get go but with the replacement it started happening after a few days of use. It started off with static noises every so often roughly within the first say 30 minutes of turning the laptop on, and then it started doing the buzzing and lagging every 15 minutes like the first one I had. I've also noticed a static noise whenever putting the charger in or out.
I had a look on the internet on how to fix it before I got the first one replaced but none of it worked, I've had another look now and came across a thread but it was from 2011 so thought the fix may be outdated now. I thought my best bet was to just come straight here to see if anyone could help.
I'm really hoping this is a known issue and it's easy to remedy as I really don't want to return this one after already returning one. I'm sorry I haven't got much information about the issue, but I hope someone will be able to help me. If you need anything else I will try my best to answer any questions.
Thanks very much

A:Audio and Video make buzzing noise/stuttering every 15 minutes

Different folks have problems for different reasons.  I would suggest you open at least Task Manager to watch the performance on the system to see if anything pops up every 15 minutes which is using resources.
Keep an eye on Processor speed and utilization.  Also the drive usage.  I can't think of anything which goes on a 15 minute time interval, but possibly some setting you have set up such as checking for mail..
Using Resource Monitor would be even better,  but the software/browser you are using could also be involved.

Need Help
My old laptop has been having a stuttering problem with games for a couple of years now. It?ll stutter for around five seconds, run smooth for around ten seconds, stutter again for five, run smooth for ten. It?ll keep doing that until I stop playing and close the game. It doesn?t start doing the stutter the second I start the game, it?ll start maybe around five minutes into the game and not quit its pattern. It doesn?t matter what game, how old it is, it does this to all.

It also does this while watching online videos. I can?t watch anything on, for example, Hulu, or Gametrailers, without it doing the same stutter pattern.

I didn?t always have this annoyance. It started little over a year after I bought my laptop. During all this time, while putting up with the problem, I?ve done several clean installs. I?ve tried to solve this myself, but never could find anyone with the same exact problem.

I?ve uploaded several videos that show the stutter problem:
MrTatakichi's Channel - YouTube

Also, here's my hardware & processes:

Any help will definitely be appreciated, thank you.

Well, 761 MHz processor speed is way too slow for any modern games. You can check go to Start/Run and type chkdsk C: /R and press enter. The command prompt box appears, press Y and reboot the computer. The Check Disk Utility will check the integrity of the drive. You can also click on the PC Running Slow? link in my signature and try those things. Other then that, you need a faster computer.

So recently a terrible buzzing occurs when ever I leave a web page with a video running. This also occurs (for anyone familiar) with League of Legends after the game ends and the game closes and boots back to the desktop client.

This began occurring after I downloaded RegClean Pro. I did it half by accident, half by stupidity. ALL I did with the program was let it run, it said I had X numbers of registry errors, tried to make me pay for it, I did not, and then I simply uninstalled the program.

I have no idea how to isolate the problem. I went to do a System Restore but I have only 1 restore point listed, which occurred after RegClean Pro had been installed/uninstalled.

EDIT: Also (NOT sure if this is related) but when I hover over taskbar icons now it shows a "drop down menu" style display as opposed to "window previews." No idea if this is even relevant, just digging for information .

Thanks!

I will will be playing team fortress 2 and for about half an hour the game is fine then all of a sudden it starts stuttering madly every time it has to access the HD. It will not cease once it has started and the game becomes unplayable.

Also if I am playing streaming videos online the video will pause while the audio continues and then jump to the correct point again after a few seconds. This will happen a cpl times every minute.

Also when typing in boxes like this the words will freeze for a few seconds before spewing out in a big chunk. Also when scrolling a webpage the same thing happens. I will scroll and it locks up then I keep scrolling and the computer beep noise sounds from the mobo then it unclogs again.

I didn't have this problem before but I had to reinstall windows cos it was screwing up for other reasons. Now that is fixed (fingers crossed) this thing has cropped up.

Another problem which is stopping me from trying the graphics card is that I tried updating the drivers but when I pick the new drivers they lockup youtube videos and cause a reset. I've tried it with several different versions of catalyst and each time the same problem .

I will be playing team fortress 2 and suddenly get several second stutters like the HD is chugging or something. It specifically happens when there is some action on the screen.

It also happens when I am watching steaming video. The video will stop for a couple of seconds while the audio continues and when the vid starts again it jumps to meet the audio.

Also when I am scrolling down with the mouse it will get jammed for a second or two then jump down.

Another thing I just noticed while writing this is when I type that too will jam for several seconds then jump.

What's going on here?

Like I say fresh install and it didn't happen before on my previous install. My drivers are all updated (all the common ones).

When I'm loading Civ 5, Sims 3 and Sims 2, I can hear loud buzzing/screeching form inside my case. It only occurs when first loading the games, not like when I'm actually in a household in Sims or moving units in Civ, and stops if I bring up another window when they're loading. As soon as a switch back to their window, though, the sounds start again. I'm well above required and recommended specs for the games that cause the buzzing, and I had the same problem on my old computer, which was also above recommended specs. Is my onboard sound trying to play some of the game's audio? Or is it just some weird error I have to deal with?

Hi,

I would suggest you to check the performance in “Safe mode with networking”.

Run the Windows Audio Playback Diagnose and Repair from the below MS FIX-IT: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/AudioPlayback/

You can even try running Microsoft Fix IT’s from the URL mentioned below according to the issue:
http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/

If this issue started occurring after doing some recent software changes on your computer, then I would suggest you to restore your system back to a date when it was working fine. System Restore will affect Windows system files, programs, and registry settings only.

Hope this helps.

I have this issue where sometimes when playing a game, whenever it's about to load a new audio asset, the game briefly freezes. Like for instance, I'm playing the Brutal Doom mod, and it will go fine for a little while but whenever I"m about to for example fire a new weapon, it will freeze itself for a second to seemingly load the new audio file for the gun being shot. There are other games that do this as well. Also, sometimes when watching a video on YouTube, I get audio stutter for a few seconds.

I've done scans with Avast!, Malware Bytes, and Spybot and so far nothing conclusive has come up. I ran the Intel Driver Update program and updated several drivers, but that hasn't fixed it. I also tried disabling Andrea ST but that didn't fix it neither. I've had this laptop for several years now, and it never did this until recently.

This has been happening for a few months now. The buzzing/stuttering varies and it's quite annoying. It only happens when I watch YouTube videos or just videos in general. I'm not sure if it's a hardware problem or just a driver problem. I have a similar problem as these people: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/laptop/f/3517/t/19412524.aspx except that my computer model isn't a Dell. My main browser if Google Chrome if that helps.

I ran DPC Latency Checker and this came up:
Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc.

I first built this desktop last May and immediately played Crysis on it to test the graphics and whatnot. I occasionally noticed some audio stuttering and the game would freeze up for a split second, then it would be fine. I knew the hardware could handle it (my system spec but with an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition and an M4A89GTD PRO/USB3 motherboard), so it must be a software problem.

It turns out that Windows Update installed some bogus driver for my onboard Realtek Ethernet controller. So, I rolled the driver back, installed the version on the motherboard CD, and that was that. No more stutter.

Well, now I have a new processor, motherboard, and Windows installation and I've found myself in the same boat, except I can't fix the problem the same way. This is especially annoying since I don't even use my ethernet at all (not by choice, just no wiring). I have an ASUS PCI wireless card (which I was using on my previous computer when I fixed the problem) and I have updated the driver for that too (after trying the one on the disk). I have also updated the HD audio driver and the ethernet driver after reinstalling from the motherboard disk didn't help. I got the drivers from Biostar's website, not through windows update.

I've read that there may be interrupt line conflicts between the graphics card and the ethernet controller (IRQ conflicts), but if those are shared, they are supposed to be (at least as far as my experience with embedded systems programming... Read more

Did it ever play videos without freezing? If so, you may try a system restore to see if that helps. If you are unable to do a system restore, you could try removing programs that are running to free up resources to see if that helps. Other than that, my best suggestion would be to try to reload Windows, to see how it performs on that machine with a clean load of Windows.

Hello,

Starting about a week ago whenever any audio is being played through my computer (speaker or headphone) I will hear a buzzing sound and occasionally the audio with skip. This happens weather I am playing audio that is being streamed from the internet or that is on my computer directly.

I have tried several things to fix this problem including installing all windows updates that are available as well as updating my audio drivers.

I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit. My computer model is hp pavilion dv7t quad 6100 and I have IDT high definition audio codec driver version 6.10.6381.0 which my computer says is the latest driver version. Updating to this version has not solved the problem, however.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated. If there is additional info that is neccesary, please let me know and I will post it.

A:IDT High Def Audio, buzzing sound when playing any sort of audio.

Unplug the speakers from the PC and see if you still get the buzz with headphones. Some "buzz" problems can be related to "AC power ground loop" problems if some separately powered devices are connected.

Noise and skipping are problems that have been posted here before. There is no "one fix" for that. There are possible hardware problems, drivers (including video drivers), Interrupt issues, Wi Fi caused, etc.

Skipping can be because the other device that is on the shared Interrupt that the sound is on is interrupting the sound. Sound is always on a shared interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device. You can try this: go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the IDT and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect the sound and reinstall it and some times put it on a different shared IRQ.

i have had this problem for a while. i use media player classic, part of the k-lite codec pack. whenever i play a video within 10-20 mins the video starts to stutter, slowing down before completely stopping as if it had been paused. i have tried watching in windows media player also, the same thing happens.

i am using Catalyst 9.12 drivers.

i had this problem with my old video card (GeForce 8800GTS) too.

i have done some googling and other people have had this problem, for some it was their drivers. others have had success with changing the output settings under DirectShow Video in media player classic. i have tried that, but it still happens, so i am thinking it is definitely a driver issue.

has anyone else had this problem? and if so how were u able to solve it?

Have you tried an alternative to WMP or Classic?
Jet Player or VLC?
The Jet Player seems to play almost anything that WMP won't, and it's got all the extra's like BBE and equalizer settings. ( see if you still have the same problems with Jet)

Hi,
My Acer ASPIRE M3802 (details to follow) starts making buzzing noises while I am playing videos, especially when buffering multiple videos at a time e.g. in multiple tabs of browser. This starts happening at irregular intervals, sometimes just after 10 mnts, sometimes after about an hour or so. The system actually freezes every few seconds. This continues till the system displays BSOD or I restart it. After restart, it is fine for quite a long time but eventually the problem starts again.
It is a 2 yr old machine. This problem happened in the past while the PC was in warranty. Sent to Acer and to my surprise, they had to replace the Hard drive. It was fine for another year and a half after that until now.
System details :
- Windows 7 Home Premium x64
- the original installed OS on the system
- an OEM version
- The age of system (hardware) = 2 years
- The age of OS installation = 1.5 yrs (reinstalled by Acer when went for repairs).

Windows_NT6_BSOD_jcgriff2.zip attached. Could not generate System Health Report as my machine says "invalid parameter" when I type: perfmon /report.

Any ideas how to troubleshoot this?

Regards,
Ali

Quote:
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).

I am experiencing an issue whereby videos refuse to play smoothly in IE (or Chrome for that matter, just on a PC in general).

It's a Lenovo P50s
It has the latest GPU drivers from Nvidia
Latest Flash Player

I cannot figure out why the videos refuse to play properly.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Whenever I start playing a game, no matter what game, I get weird buzzing feedback from my headphones or speakers, depends on what I use when I play. They both make the same noise at the same places (certain menus, while in-game, etc).
I also can't make my built in mic on my earphones to work. I believe that's all somehow connected since it worked flawlessly on Windows 7.
I'm starting to regret installing 8.1 but I don't wanna go back because I'm lazy. I'm going off topic...
I tried installing, uninstalling different version of Realtek HD Audio drivers. Whenever I'm uninstalling the built-in my I was talking about starts working, but then I restart my computer and it stops working.
On the other hand, I have a good headset by Razer, which the microphone of these headphones DOES work. I don't know what to make of this.
Anyway, in conclusion: Weird buzzing feedback while in-game, earphone's mic doesn't work, headphone's mic does. I really just wanna solve the buzzing feedback thing, thanks.

Hi everyone,

I have a REALLY annoying problem with my PC.

When I play computer games I will get frequent half second pauses/stutters. It happens every 10 seconds or so, and i'm not certain but i THINK it's when a game plays a sound file.

What makes it all the more strange is that when i played the Guild Wars 2 beta it didn't happen AT ALL, yet on games like League of Legends and Guild Wars 1 it happens non-stop.

I have tried alot of different ideas that i've found on various gaming tech-help forums over the past few months; i've updated my audio and video drivers, I've parked and unparked CPUs, i've allocated a game to a specific CPU, i've reinstalled directx, i've made sure windows updates are all up to date, i've checked the temperature of my PC, etc.

Does anybody have ANY idea what might be causing this? I've never updated my BIOS because I can't find out how to do it, where to do it, or even if to do it. I got the PC second hand a year ago.

I get used to it after a while, but when my boyfriend is at work I play on his PC, and then coming back to mine in the evening just annoys me!

Here's my DXDiag:

I have recently encountered the same problem on my computer as of yesterday. Playing ESO i used to play on high settings no problems, now am on medium and it stuttering with my fps still at 80-100.

Was playing yesterday my keyboard starting being glitchy, restarted computer and keystrokes would not read but other things like caps lock would. I restored to factory settings using on screen keyboard, then when windows reloaded I could not even put keystrokes in to enter my computer name for setup. Magically it worked out of the blue out of many restarts etc. I have now reset to factory settings, cleared ram, disabled fw, ran superantispyware and clear, nothing running in background, drivers are up to date.

No idea what is going on, any help would be awesome. Seems the stutter gets worse the longer i play.

Sounds like a hardware or heat related issue. My first thought would be the power supply.

You should be able to check the voltages in the BIOS (unless Dell locked that page).

Hi I'm having an annoying issue with some games with stuttering when my system seems to be more than capable of running them. Here are some of the games that have this issue whilst playing them: Crysis , Metro last light , Red faction guerilla (<--very rarely stutters) Deus ex human revolution , BF4 , Watch dogs and world of tanks.

Yes I understand that some of those games are old and It also could be because of in-game loading but its strange because it is not happening to anyone else and I have tried nearly everything to fix this issue (I play these games on a gaming laptop with a mobile GPU etc...) but It still persists so Is there any solutions and reasons to why this happens and is there anything I could turn down in the video menu of these games at could be causing them to stutter? Here are my main specs

CPU: i7 4700MQ
GPU: Geforce GTX 765M
RAM: 8GB

Running these games on a gaming laptop (with no SSD if that has anything to do with it) and hope to get this fixed. Thanks

Have you tried pulling up task manager going to the performance tab then resource manager to try and see what could be eating your system resources?

Hey everyone!
I'm new here so sorry if this is the wrong section or something. Basically I'm having stuttering issues within some games. I noticed this when I first installed Mirrors edge. Every 10 seconds or so the game will freeze for half a second. It gets worse as I play on and is eventually happening every few seconds. I thought it was a problem with this game alone until I downloaded Dead Space 3 and the same thing happened.

Here are my main specs:
Intel i7 2600
Gigabyte GTX 580
8gb of RAM
Gigabyte z68-xp-ud3
750w power supply

If anybody could suggest some ways to fix this that would be great.

Thanks in advance!

Hello Techspot! So yesterday, I built a new computer and everything works fine except one thing. I get these weird distorted buzzing noises when I play games. It only happens ingame and its coming from my headphones. Youtube and media players work fine. They are kinda non existant when you start the game, like really low buzzes but then they get higher when I get into it. Like the main menu is fine in Saints Row 3 but when the loading screen and the game itself starts it just gets a lot higher. Can it be soundcard drivers? I don't think its my headphones fault because I tried them on another computer and they work fine. My motherboard is: Fatality Z77 Performance.

A:Weird buzzing noises during games

Btw, the soundcard is a Realtek ALC892 7.1. I'm searching for drivers but I can't seem to find any
