I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

As we have properly understood your issue you are facing issue in battery chekc up: Make sure you have the latest drivers. Especially graphics driver and BIOS. To do this, make sure Windows Update is fresh, and check HPSA for BIOS updates.Screen brightness has the single biggest impact on battery life. Of course, this is all about personal preference, but a couple clicks down on brightness will often help battery a lot, and might even be a bit more comfortable if you?re using for a long time. The apps you?re using can make a big difference. Playing video with the optimized Xbox Video app will give better battery life than other players. Internet Explorer gives better battery life than Chrome. Always helpful to close things you aren?t using. Things like ads loading on webpages in the background can mess with battery life.nitin singh guleria

I recently picked up a Spectre to test drive for a couple weeks. Overall, I like it a lot but there are a couple unpolished elements that bother me, especially that "Calculating" is always displayed instead of a time remaining estimate. A little bit after getting home from the store, I flipped the screen into tablet mode, and it caused unrecoverable screen tearing until force reboot. Next day, I updated Windows to latest build, hoping it'd solve the display driver issue (so far so good, fingers crossed). But after the update it seems to be stuck "Calculating" (if that is indeed what it's doing). Some other posts on this forum seem to suggest that HP removed the feature. Can I expect this to be patched in the future, or is there a workaround? Not looking for a third party application... as others have said, even just disappearing the "Calculating" would begrudingly satisfy me. I guess it's really an aesthetic gripe, yet it will never stop bothering me. Between this and the screen tearing, I'm on the fence whether to keep the device or return it and wait for a skylate macbook pro. If anyone could elucidate me to a known workaround, or confirmation from HP that this will be fixed, I would greatly appreciate it!

My new HP Spectre get very very very hot on the underside when operating for only a short time.  In addition, it has lost battery life.  It now only gets about 4 hours before needing a recharge.  The documentation indicates a battery life of 11+hours.  This is not the case.  The product is only about 2 months old - still under warranty.   Is this a common issue - I have seen reviews of it running warm but this is so hot it appears something is wrong.  In addition, is the loss of battery life related?  And how do we get the battery issue resolved under warranty.

I bought a brand new hp spectre x360 last December 2016 because I was amaze of the features being advertised at Best Buy Station Square Burnaby, CA store and they order it for me. When I got my order which I'm expecting it's brand new product, however after 2 weeks of using it I observed that the battery life has short period of time to think that I fully charged it. Because of these I return my laptop in the store to give complain regarding this matter. The store took it for repair and until now it's almost a month I haven't received any update regarding the status of my laptop. And I'm paying for the laptop which I haven't use. Kindly address this issue and hoping to hear from HP company soon.

I bought the Spectre x360 to replace my HP Envy.  The promised 12+ hours of battery life have resulted in only 4 hours.  VERY disappointing since, I've chosen to buy this product over MAC which delivers 10 hours.  I have checked the forum and there is no solution to this and has been going on for at least a year.  Why is HP not delivering?  I spent $1400 for something that was promised and not delivered.  Can anyone help?  Can I send this back and get a refund? I can't find help anywhere.  LK

When I got my Spectre about 6 mo ago I go 8-10 hrs on a charge when doing word processing and e-mail.  However that recently dropped to less than 4 hrs.  After spending several hours with HP Support, we could find nothing obviously wrong with the machine.  A look at the Task Manager CPU useage revealed nothing extraordinary and the HP Battery check indicated the battery was "ok".  In preparing to send the machine back to HP, I decided to first try to reimage it, i.e. wipe the disk and reload the operating system.  HP makes this easy to do.  Once the new image was installed I methodically  loaded each of my major applications one-by-one and retested the battery life after each install.  I now get 8-10 hrs of battery life. During this process I did not update any of the drivers.  This suggests that one of the recent driver upgrades is the culprit to my battery problem so I'm now much more cautious in accepting these.  I always do a restore point before proceeding and test the battery life afterwards. Testing the battery life can be done in several ways.  The key is consistency.  The method I use is to edit the power settings so that the screen stays on and the machine remains awake.  I then just let it sit for a while.  I typically see a loss of 10% of battery power per hour.  Prior to the reimage I saw 25-30% reduction per hour.

Hi,  I was not super sure as to where to post this so I put "Notebook Video, Display and Touch".So I bought this new HP Spectre x360 about a week ago during the cyber sales in preparation for classes at University next semester as I was wanting something small, lightwieght, and with a long lasting battery that could get me though the shcool day. I love everything about this laptop except it seems to have a very short battery life. When I bought it, all the tech reviews and the official HP website claimed an 11 to 12 hour battery life, however I cannot seem to get more than around 4 or 5. Perhaps the battery is bad?I do not know too much about computers so I had my brother help me choose the model. I have the i7 6500u, 16gbs of ram, and a 512gb SSD. My brother said with these specific components, the battery life could be effected a little bit but was under the impression that it would still be able to serve me at least 8 hours while at school. Should I contact HP support about the battery life problem? Thank you for any advice you can give me.

Hi!  I am also having concerns about my laptop's battery life. It would probably run for a max 5 hours out of the claimed 12 hours battery life. I don't have any applications - besides Microsoft programs and iTunes (NO GAMES). I don't overcharge my laptop, so once it reaches 100%, I unplug straight away. Any solutions out there to improve battery performance? Thanks so much in advance! Sam

My x360 QHD Spectre has a low battery life in the beginning it has a 7 hour life with medium brightness then it's like 4:30 hours with Battery Saver on mode and I already removed bloatware and I only watch movies on it but when I game it's 2:30 hours (Fan gets loud and laptop gets hot) I'm pretty sure the battery life should be 10 hours

I recently bought my Spectre x360 and overall I am very happy with my purchase. However, I am a bit concerned with battery life. For my version (i7 processor and UHD screen) I am only achieving about 5 hours usage from each charge. I had expected nearer 9 hours from the adverts for the model. Reading messages from other users I seem to find that to achieve nearer 9 hours i should lower screen brightness to about 50%. Surely the main reason for buying a notebook with a UHD-4K screen is for the display to be bright especially when watching videos (Nertflix, iPlayer etc).Any suggestions about improving battery life please

The HP spectre x360 is advertised as having up to 12.5 hours of battery life.    I even asked HP.com Sales Rep and Microsoft Sales reps too since they had a hand in building this and are selling it.     I was so excited when I got it until 4 hours later when it died. I updated Windows, updated all drivers and still got around the same time.  I checked the battery and it was in great health. So I set out to maximize its battery life to get the advertised 12 hours. Yet, after taking absolutely extreme measures to extend its battery life to the fullest, I was ONLY able to get 8 hours of battery life. Here's what I did (My laptop is fully updated latest drivers and everything): Generated a Battery Health Report (everything looked good)Used HP's 'Support Assistant' Battery Check and it came back "OK".Turned on 'Powersave Mode' (this dims the screen even at 100%)Reduced the screen brightness to 70% (which really means %50 in power save mode)Limited my use to just one program (Microsoft Edge) with super minor use of a few  other programs.Disabled Cortana.Disabled One Drive sync.Disabled Desktop Slideshow.Disabled notificationsDisabled desktop "Peek" and all window "snapping" functionality.Disabled all auto startup processes services that I knew to be safe to disable. I bought the i7, QHD version of the Spectre convertible laptop two days before Christmas. Overall, I think it's a great product - which makes it even sadder that I'm thinking of returning it.The advertisements said 11 hours of battery life. Now, obviously that's not going to be accurate for normal everyday usage, but the salespeople in the store (and common sense) said that it would probably still get at least an eight hour, more like nine hour battery life on a single charge. Nope! FOUR HOURS. That's ridiculous. That's just over a third of the advertised battery life.I thought (and still think) it might be an issue with the battery itself, as the computer runs really really hot - it's basically impossible to put this thing on my lap at times. Which is annoying. But I did the HP Support Assistant battery check and it said it was fine, and then I did the BIOS battery check and it passed. And then the HP staff member I was chatting with on the support system had the gall to say "4 hours is actually really good". NO, IT IS NOT REALLY GOOD. Similar laptops in this category get about 7 hours of real time use. I bought this computer in large part because of that puported long battery life, and all the reviews said that the battery life was pretty great - none mentioned being four hours. Were reviewers sent different computers? And this four hours is not playing video games on full brightness settings. No. This four hours is on 25% brightness, power saver mode on, battery saver mode ... Read more

I just bought the Spectre 360 and am having the same overheating issues as above.  One of the main reasons for the purchase was the hyperbaric cooling system so the laptop would not overheat.  This one is so hot to the touch within an hour of turning it on that it burns my leg if I am using it on my lap.  When on a table, the bottom vents are covered but the side vents are not.  This is a laptop, it is not built to carry around a cooling table, it is meant to be portable.  Mine is less than 12 hours old and I feel as though I need to return it too.  Any updates to this issue before I do that? Thanks.

Greetings for the day dqthehoang, Regarding the battery life and battery backup that has been mentioned here, when the unit says battery upto 12hours, on a idle situation the battery life is upto 12hours or when you are using minimal applications, There are certain applications which would use more battery power, check when you are using any particular application if the battery drains, try updating BIOS through HP.com and Try running battery test through HPSA to check the functionality of the battery, Perform battery calibration on a timely manner to keep the battery in good shape. Regards,Zoan  Please click ?Accept as Solution ? if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.Click the ?Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom right to say ?Thanks? for helping!

I just get the new HP Spectre X360 recently (earlier this month) and I've been loving it so far except for the battery life. I have been barely getting 5.5~6 hours (which is not even close to the advertised 14 hour battery life) with the battery saver settings while being connected to a stable wifi network and just listening to music and browsing on the web. Is there any way to resolve this issue? I also checked the battery through the HP Assistant program and it seems fine.

For me activating the battery saver from the taskbar always sets me back, for example: If I have around if 56 minutes remaining then activating power saver would probably set me back to 48 minutes remaining.

And the brightness does reduce which is strange. Why would this reduce my batter instead of saving it?

A:Activating "power saver" actually reduces remaining battery life

Have you tested it by letting it run and see what the ACTUAL time left is? , those 'time remaining' calculations are known to be a little bit 'squirly' when system states change, they're really only guestimates.

Hi! I purchased my laptop around 3 to 4 months ago via my school. Initially, the laptop was able to live up to its claims of a "long battery life" but within 2 months, the battery life had decreased from 10 hours to 2-3 hours. Moreover, the laptop seems to be very laggy, despite the fact that the majority of my files are stored in Dropbox and I rarely have anything more than a few google chrome tabs open (and occasionally a microsoft word document open). Are there ways to solve this? Should I purchase a new battery?

I have had my HP Spectre for a year.  Only on occasion do I use something requiring graphics. Mostly I am using word and power points at the moment.  This past week, all the sudden my computer is overheating and I am only getting about 2 hours of batterylife whereas a few weeks ago I was getting at least 5 hours if not more (sometimes average around 7).  I shut down my computer last night with over 50% of battery life and booted it up today and it had 20%.  And was instantly hot to the point it is hard to do anything on it.   Has anyone experienced this?  The computer is just barely a year old.  My HP computers in the past normally last about 4 years before giving me problems.   I suspect it is because of the recent update to Windows 10 that happened last week that I was forced into, but I can't figure out how to problem shoot that.

I just purchased the new Spectre x360 (i5 6200u version, model number d108) and I'm experiencing muddling battery life. I only seem to be managing around 6 hours or so of casual browsing. This is with the screen brightness down to the lowest possible, killing/removing unnecessary programs and barely anything running in the background other than Google Drive. I've seen a review which managed to get 9 hours of browsing and that was on the version running the Broadwell CPUs which are supposedly not quite as efficient as the newest ones. So what's going on here? I know manufacturers exaggerate but half the marketed time with minimal load and lowest brightness doesn't seem right?

The biggest trade-off is that the long life cycle batteries take longer to charge - they cannot be express charged.
This is what reduces stress on the battery and prolongs its lifespan.

Hi, When I first got my laptop, I would click on the battary icon in the tray and it would give me a time remaining estimate as well as the percentage.  I have since had to reinstall windows 8.1 and no longer have the battery time remaining estimate, just the percentage.  I have installed all the latest drivers from the support site and everything works fine except for that. I have tried every version of the BIOS available on the support site and reinstalled serveral times.  I also tried running a battery check which came back fine.  Any idea on how to fix this? Thanks.

Hello tm200 The Battery Time Remaining information has been removed from BIOS F.11. The battery time estimator basically looking at what you?re doing right now and give an estimated remaining time. It was common for the readout to go from 8 hours to 16 hours in a matter of minutes. This might cause more customer confusion than it would solve. The trend of mobile devices intended last for whole day is try not to estimate their battery life. For example, iPhones, iPads, Android phones, tablets, etc. all don?t try to estimate. They might give insight into your past usage, but they won?t try to project the future.  ThanksWayne

To all owners of X1 Carbon 2017 (5th gen).I read all of those reviews where people are impressed by 10+ hours of battery life (15,5h advertised), but I can't really figure out how....!? First time I tested was a normal working day - Firefox (a lot of Flash it must be said), Outlook, Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat. Nothing really heavy, no peripherals except Bluetooth mouse. Brightness dimmed 1 level below the ideal. It lasted for about 4 hours! I windows's list of apps affecting battery life, Firefox was on 1st place with 32-35% Second attempt - same set of tasks, however less Firefox (no flash) - 7 hours. Now in the middle of a 3rd attempt (using Opera this time) - battery time remaining indication goes over 10h only when I completely stop using the laptop Not many apps running in the background either (Dropbox, Skype...) So my question - do you guys get more than 10h of battery life and HOW? Do you enable "Battery Stretch"? How actively do you use it and for what?

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

Hi, I need help with my HP Pavillion 13x360PC I am using Microsoft Windows 10 Home. My battery icon will randomly say "unkown remaining". Sometimes it will work as normal and state what it's charge is at and will function fine, unplugged for it's whole battery life (5 hours). Other times it needs to be plugged in or else it will shut down within minutes (even though it has a full charge), during those times it needs to be plugged in or else it will not turn back on. Then I will turn it back on and it will say it's 100% charged and work fine.  On startup, I sometimes get a battery alert. I have tried running the battery test from HP Assistant and it will not complete the test with message: "program has stopped working." Please help, it's been happening on and off for a few months now. Ashley

A:Remaining Battery Time is a lot

Battery meters are notoriously inaccurate and I have seen many give silly numbers when run under Windows versions they were not written for.

Mine gives different results under Win 7 to those under XP

This is a new one for me. My Thinkpad has the internal 3-cell battery and 6-cell hotswappable. The past several days I have noticed that my primary (internal) battery is not being used or included in the % available calculation. Ie., my monitor will say 30% remaining. When I look at each, my secondary batter (6-cell) is at 30%. My primary (internal 3-cell) is showing 97%. I have reinstalled the battery manager, did a gauge reset on both batteries, let my hotswappable run completely down wondering if it is somehow prioritizing usage and would switch itself over to the internal.. although it has never done that before. My laptop shut itself off with 97% still remaining on the internal. I also swapped out the secondary battery. When I first noticed it my internal battery was lower (~40%) but re-charged just fine and has been sitting at 97%, not charging ever since. My only thought now is possibly an error with my internal battery. I'm not too excited about changing it, but it's the only other thing I can think of. Suggestions? Anyone experience this before?

I have had this problem lately and have exhausted all options...even the possibility of a bad battery. Here is my situation. Last week my laptop shut off abruptly at approx. 20 percent remaining battery. I recharged it fully and it did it again. I contacted HP regarding possibly a bad battery and the HP battery check says that the batter is good so they will not replace the battery. There is no recall either. Now when I fully the charge the battery...it stays at 100 percent for even like a hour!! The only way I have been able to reset the percent is to turn off the laptop...remove the AC plug...remove the battery and allow to sit for like 10 minutes then restart the laptop. Anyone know if that battery meter isnt correctly reading the battery. Is there a way to recalibrate the meter...I have already recalibrated the battery per HPs suggestions to no avail.

Thanks alot in advance on this one.

A:Battery not showning corrent Percent Remaining

yeah u probably have a bad battery. i once had a hp computaaaa and it had low battery. it would say full 100% but after 5 mins it would run out... my best guess is to get a new battery

I have spent several hours troubleshooting this error of the remaining battery duration continuously calculating, then I discover on this forum that it's intended as a feature!!! I I've tried all the steps proposed but apparently I wasted my time if it's an intended feature! Apparently someone made the decision at HP to hack in the BIOS this normal ability of the OS to calculate remaining battery time.http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/No-Battery-Time-Remaining-when-... We know it's only an estimate, and varies according to use, but to deliberately interfere with a useful feature offered by MS in their OS is stooping low, to say the least. If the claim is wrong, then please be transparent with us. Wow, come on HP don't waste our valuable time, put this feature back how it was intended to be and available on other laptops. I've just switched from using Dell for more than a decade and I am not impressed with the integrity of HP of doing this kind of thing especially since i guess you had people complaining about the stated battery life of the Spectree X360...well tough, you need to deal with the reality that it achieves only one third to one half of its claimed battery life rather than hiding from customers the remaining battery time!  C'mon HP, show a long-time Dell customer that you care as much as Dell care!

A:Battery Time Remaining continuously calculating

I have gone thru three 4195dx spectre 360's and several systems at Best Buy. The systems with the latest BIOS have this issue and its NOT RESOLVED. I have opened an escalation with HP and have an escalation manager working it but it has become a DEAD END. Their was a F level BIOS that came out the other day but it was for audio and audio volume issues? I was so hoping HP would fix this. The demo units at Best Bye do not have this issue and show only percent remainging BUT THEY ARE AT BIOS Level A..the first BIOS...so yes indeed HP has done something in the BIOS to CLOUD the iusse. Possibly by MISTAKE or to hide the crappy battery life of their awesome new HALO co-designed with microsoft product. Its more annoying that anything but show a LACK of detail, possibly HONESTY from HP that has just split into two companies. Some people are listening at HP but NOT THE RIGHT ONES or they are IGNORING this issue to save FACE. Remove the calculating HP.... Alex

Hey guys!I've had this problem for awhile, but I didn't think it was serious.
The battery icon never shows 'plugged in' when the AC is connected. It wouldn't be a problem, but when I try to install a driver it always requests the charging mode...and my windows 7 ultimate edition x64 does not recognise when i plug in the AC.Help, please!
p.s: i've got a hp compaq presario laptop.

A:Battery always showing 100% remaining even if it's fully charged

You can try running an sfc scan to fix corrupted system files.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Or you could try alternative battery meters. E.g. theres one made by a forum member (Bagaria).
