Lenovo EDGE 15 - airplane mode f7 hotkey won't work

Q: Lenovo EDGE 15 - airplane mode f7 hotkey won't work

Hey all! I've been sporting my Lenovo Edge 15 for about two years now. I run Windows 10 and have done so since I first got the computer (I believe when I purchased it I upgraded right away). If you need more specifics I have this PC right here! Airplane mode works if I manually activate it via the wi-fi settings, but the hotkey, F7, won't turn it on/off. The key doesn't appear to be broken, just the hotkey function it carrys, as using Fn activates the basic F7 function. All my other hotkeys work perfectly. Anyone have the same issue? Know of a fix?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi I just recently got a Y700 laptop( Model: 80NW0010US ). 15" Touchscreen versionJust recently the F5 Airplane Mode hot key has stopped working. It worked when I first received it a few days ago, and all of the other hotkeys are still working just fine. I should probably mention that the F5 key, itself, works. As I can still hit the F5 key and it will refresh the current web page. I can still turn airplane mode on/off through network settings, but I really want to fix the hotkey if possible. I've gone to Lenovo's support page and installed the following:-BIOS update-Energy_Manager_and_Flight_Mode_Driver-Battery Gauge-WLAN-Synaptics-Intel WLAN-Intel Management Engine Interface Driver-Intel Bluetooth-Intel Chipset-Lenovo Utility-Advanced Configuration and Power Management Interface (ACPI) Driver I have run the following programs(none of which show anything being infected/corrupted):-McAfee Antivirus-Malwarebytes-Command Prompt ( sfc and DISM ) None of the above helped in fixing the airplane mode hotkey. I will continue editing this post with drivers/fixes that I have tried. Thanks for looking and any help is much appreciated.

Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545 laptop with Win7 pre-installed.

Had it about 5 days, and just tried to boot F8 Safe Mode.

It refuses to acknowledge the F8 key and boot into the Safe Mode menu screen.

According to Microsoft website, F8 is supposed to work in Win7.

Is this a known bug in my hardware?  In Win7?

Or, I hope not, is my Windows installation corrupted?

A:F8 Safe Mode does not work, Lenovo ThinkPad Edge E545

Are you tapping the f8 key repeatedly or just one time . . .

If msconfig is working you could just use it to force safe mode on the next reboot.

Hello, I am having annoying problems with the Lenovo Airplane mode - this is the mode which other users have complained about - it prevents the battery from charging without any obvious notification that it has done this. I have disabled Airplane Mode AND Auto Detection in the Lenovo companion. However it is still randomly turning itself back on and stopping the battery from charging. Is there any way I can turn this of permantly?

Hello everyone. I have quite an odd problem: my laptop (510s-14IKB) from time to time spontaneously goes to airplane mode, turns off mic/sound, etc. As if I used combinations like ctrl+F4, F7, or else. I am 100% positive that I do not do it myself. What could it be? P.S. Seriously, I am really getting tired of these little weird Lenovo problems (my last laptop - z500 - also had some odd problems).

I bought my HP Pavilion 17-g121wm at Walmart. Works fine, but the fn-F12, which is supposed to toggle Airplane mode on/off, doesn't work. And although Settings shows that the laptop is in Airplane Mode, it isn't. Wifi is enabled. In short, I cannot turn Airplane mode on to conserve battery. I've tried updating the LAN driver, and also installing F12 key driver. Neither helped. I'm looking for some way to be able to toggle wireless on and off. Right now, wireless is always on and I can't change it.

Afterwards, every hotkey works including after sleep and until the next boot. Could anyone help me diagnose the problem with the service? 'services.msc' displays the loader as running after every boot, meaning that the service itself has messed up somewhere.

Recently my Lenovo 15 Edge (no longer under warrranty) and with a sealed in battery NOT in battery conservation mode is not charging when plugged in. I have also checked that Windows Power Options is not in conservation mode. When I got to Lenovo Power Settings it alternates between battery is good and battery not installed. I have also tried calibrating the battery with no success. I have spent close to 5 hours working on this with no solution. Please help or send a Lenovo support contact number so I can call someone (even though it is not under warranty). Hello all, I bought my lenovo Edge 2-1580 in December, but recently, the display won't turn on after I wake it up from sleep mode. The rest of the notebook still turns on and the power button is lit, but the screen will stay black even if I move the mouse or press any keys. I have to do a manual shutdown and then turn it on again, which works but then the problem occurs again when it goes to sleep mode. I've updated the drivers and disabled the notebook from going to sleep, but if I manually put it into sleep mode the problem continues. I've seen this as a common issue regarding Windows 10 as well. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

A:Lenovo Edge 2-1580 won't wake up after sleep mode

I just resolved this issue recently with my Flex 3 1580, so hopefully my solution works for you.  First, update the video/graphics driver (intel or nvidia) from the Drivers & Software page on support.lenovo.com.  Test sleep mode again.  If the screen is still not turning back on, then update your BIOS.  Back on the Drivers & Software page, look for the latest BIOS update and run it.  In both cases, but especially for the BIOS update, make sure your laptop is plugged in.

Hello,

Before I start my Thread i apologize for me English, It is just from google translate.

My girlfriend's laptop had been a BSOD. This includes the kernel power Event ID 41. This issue seems to be the WiFi driver. Now I want to update it, but that is not the current problem. If I take the laptop out of airplane mode, the screen flickers blue and I can do nothing. If the laptop on airplane mode, nothing happens and operates the laptop normally.
How can I solve this problem? If Annex I added the ZIP file of the dm_log_collector. I hope to have sufficiently informed you with this.

I have a broken screen, which prompts me to disable the touchscreen function so I'm heavily dependent on the keyboard. Since the keyboard is a Bluetooth device, I now can't interact with my laptop (i.e. move the cursor to disable airplane mode). This is the second time that this happen and it's really frustrating since I wish that there's actually an airplane mode button on the sides of the laptop itself for situations like this. My daughter has a Dell laptop with Win 8.1 this has been broken many times and she's returned it (she bought a 2 year warranty which is good) it's needed the harddrive replaced at least twice. That's not the problem, but the last 2 times it came back from being fixed, it's been in AIRPLANE MODE. this happened the last time it came back from getting fixed, and I googled it and she tried various things, even taking the battery out and waiting and putting it back in. It won't connect to WiFi and says it's in Airplane mode. The last time she kept trying to use it and a few days later it started working okay. This time, I was googling this and found some complicated answers, going in to settings, etc. and also found a lot of other people who were having the same problem and couldn't figure out how to change it. I don't know much about Windows 8, even just getting around in it, I still have Windows 7 and this is what I like.
Is there a simple way to turn off Airplane Mode, or even disable it? There is very little chance she will be taking a plane, or bringing the laptop with her on one, and I think a lot of planes now allow the use of WiFi so it isn't even needed.
Oh, her warranty was up in Aug and she returned it the last time the end of July (it needed the hd replaced for the 2nd time) and they gave her a hard time about this because it was almost up and she'd returned it to have it fixed 2 times before. So, she can't call t... Read more

Most Dell laptops have a physical switch which turns the WiFi adapter On or Off. When the switch is off and there is no wired connection to the Internet, the laptop shows to be in Airplane mode. If the switch if On and the laptop is still in Airplane mode, the WiFi adapter could be disabled. From Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections look at the status of the WiFi adapter; if it shows as 'Disabled', just right click on it and select 'Enable'.

I had an issue with AVG that was locking up the machine.   I was able to remove AVG in safemode, but after rebooting my laptop, I now have no internet connectivity.  I am running Windows 10.  When I go into the settings for network and internet, I have an option for Dial-up, VPN, airplane mode.   There is no option for Ethernet nor wifi.  When I click on airplane mode and attempt to set the toggle switch to off, it will not move...it simply slides back to the on position.   I've gone into device manager and attempted to update the driver (which is Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 802.11 bgn wifi adapter) and it tells me that it's up to date.  I then disabled it per instructions that I found online, and rebooted.  It reinstalled the drivers, and again says that the drivers are up to date.  Another option was for me to go to properties for the adapter and hit the power managment and Clear off the option that says Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.  However, there is no power managment tab?!?!?! Also, when I view the Network Connections folder, it is empty.  I'm at a loss.  I've tried everything that I can think of.  My wife needs this PC with internet access to run her online business, but it's utterly useless at this point. I could really use some assistance. Thanks!

Fortunately I haven't visited here in a while! (this is the closest smiley to tongue-in-cheek!)

Here goes......
I'm running Windows 8.1.1 on a Dell Inspiron 15 (3000 series) laptop.

I wanted to take a screenshot and I'm almost sure I pressed "Ctrl" when my cat FLEW onto my laptop. The next thing I knew I was in Airplane Mode (maybe that was Nalah's ulterior motive!). I tried 13 different remedies I found on MS support, Google, etc. but to no avail. What I did learn from the non-MS advice was that this problem is one that MS itself does not know how to fix. Still, having gone without sleep for two days and needing to meet an urgent deadline on a project, I contacted MS support. I admit that I need to have my head examined for spending 9 hours (yes, 9!!!!!) - one of which was spent running a diagnostic that found an error but not one that is connected to Airplane Mode. At that point, the battery on my phone died and I lost the call and spent the next 45 minutes trying to call back. After 9 hours on the phone/chat with them, I was told that if I pay $129 (for a year), one of their senior technicians could assist me. That's when I decided I'd rather pay you!

That being said, the main problem is that I cannot move the slide that turns off Airplane Mode. Obviously, the problem is deeper than just that.

Having a brainstorm (which is a big thing since I'm not very computer savvy), I plugged my laptop directly into the router/modem and, lo and behold, I was a... Read more
