I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

oh yeah, i dont have an optical mouse either (because apparently it is one of the reasons why the screensavers dont work).
can anyone help me? any info would be appreciated. thanks in advance. (:

for starters, go into your control panel, click on Apperaance and Themes, click on Display or Choose a Screen Saver. See if you can get into the display properties, and the screen saver tab and check your settings, if you change them don't forget to hit Apply before you OK out.... drop the screen saver to 2 minuites just to test it...

I recently bought a Dell Inspiron 1501 laptop with Windows Vista. The screensaver has never worked. When I try to preview the screensaver, it blinks on for a second and then returns me to my desktop.

I have searched for an answer to this question, but it seems like most people's problems are from a wireless keyboard or mouse, and I've never used an external keyboard or mouse. Does anyone know of anything else that may be causing this problem?

Thanks!

For a little while now the screensaver on my computer has just stopped coming on. I have it set up to display all the pictures from a particular folder.

I can't quite remember but I think this problem started happening after a power outage shut down my computer. Now the screensaver never comes on on it's own.

I've heard of the USB keyboard/mouse issue and I've tried unplugging and reconnecting both and it didn't work. If I change the screensaver timer it will work for a little while but never permanently. My keyboard and mouse are the ones that came with the Dell.

Help... not sure how it happened, but if I pick a screensaver, the next time I turn my computer on, it defaults back to (none.) How do I get it to stop doing this? I think a screensaver management type program may have caused this at some point but I'm not sure which one. I run XP... Hi -

i have a new Vista system (from Dell), but the screensaver doesn't work. I don't really "need" it, but i use it occassionally.

Also, the power management features don't work in regard to the monitor either. This i do like to use .... but the monitor just won't turn off unless i use the button on the front.

The monitor is a bit older (maybe 2 years old), a FP193 or something like that. Dell doesn't have a updated driver for it, so i guess i can understand the power features not necessarily working, but shouldn't the screensaver still work regardless?

The monitor driver is the generic driver that comes with Vista.

Any suggestions?

Everything else works fine.

I use the screensaver for interest and to let my defragger work in the background.

What are the odds that the screen saver and power settings were configured when you were logged in as a different user? It's a long shot but I like to start with the basics, and power settings are user specific. I know it seems silly to ask but the road less traveled to a solution is normally the wrong one.

Dead Vista Home/Prem x64 system, won't boot. Booting off disc, try to run sfc /scannow, I get "windows resource protection could not start the repair service". Obviously there's no way to run an elevated command prompt from booting off the disc. Tried "install now" and the upgrade option is greyed out and says do the upgrade from inside windows (obviously this isn't an option either). I've tried repairing with a SP0, SP1, and SP2 disc. System restore, no dice. Re-installing Vista, at this juncture is not an option. I cannot believe Microsoft made Vista (and for that matter, Server 2008) SO FRAGILE that you can't repair the system properly. If this was XP it would have been done by now. If anyone has any ideas, no matter how insane (keeping in mind what I've already posted above, of course) then please let me know. Thank you.

About a week ago my power options don't work. I always have my display turn off after 1 hour and now it don't work and I can't even get a screen saver to work. I went to Balanced and power saver and put on 1 minute and it don't work. Same with my screen saver, however if I do a preview on the screen saver that works. Any ideas what might be the problems?

A:Power Options don't work

We need more clues.
What has changed on your computer in the last week? New programs? Updates? New hardware?

You could see if you have a System Restore point dated more than one week ago, before the symptoms began, and try it. You might not want to do this if you did install new hardware, in which case there are additional steps you must do first.

Did you make any BIOS changes? If your Suspend Mode has changed that might explain it.

This may seem strange, but, do you ever shut your computer off? If no, then shut it down, disconnect the power, wait 60 seconds or so, then boot up fresh. You would not believe how many problems that fixes!

I'm having two problems I'd love help with:

Please contact your system administrator." But I AM trying to access it from the Administrator user log-in! It still won't let me access it. I wonder if changes I made in windows.msc might have affected this...any suggestions?

2) Windows Media Player doesn't work at all within Explorer. Whenever I go to a page that has Windows Media content within the page, a grayed out silhouette of Windows Media with buttons out of position appears on the page, and the content refuses to load.

Any suggestions on how to take care of these two vexing problems?

Hello bar0329 and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'd try using a restore point and return the computer to a date/time prior to installing Web Shots.

I'm not familiar with Web Shots. I might try to contact customer support and explain the issue you're having. Perhaps others have reported similar problems and Web Shots may have a solution. According to their FAQs, it should be compatible with Windows 7.

I've reviewed other questions in this forum about the power-saving options in XP not working, hanging, can't bring computer back to life, etc., but I have a different problem. In my case, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. What could cause that?

Before you ask, no software applications are running on the computer when I walk away from it. The monitor is set to hibernate after 15 min.; turn off HD at 30 min.; standby after 45 min.; and hibernate after 1 hour. Frequently the monitor does hibernate, but the HD doesn't turn off and the system therefore goes no farther in the hibernation process.

A:HELP: power option doesn't work - screen saver doesn't start!

This is another case of factory bloatware interfering - in this case a useless factory utility overriding Win7's superior built-in version.

Googling the Quiet Office feature of Asus there are multiple reported problems. Best to default to the Win7 built-in Power Options in Control Panel. Set up a Balanced Plan unless you're a gamer then use High Performance.

When I went to open the Help File I had to go to the Microsoft site for the WinHlp32.exe download. This was because I received an error message re a problem running the macro (1037) This a known problem.

I let MS "Fix" it on the Vista machine and it worked like a charm. But when I tried it TWICE on the Win7 laptop it wouldn't work. So per their documentation I attempted to fix it myself. That didn't work either.

Tried to contact their support link provided and that was useless.

I have one of the strangest issues I have come across. After upgrading to 8.1 my power button doesn't always work when trying to enter sleep mode. It's how I send my computer to sleep and wake it up. If the computer is off or asleep and I press the button it works every time, but if it is on and I press it to send it to sleep mode it works probably 25% of the time.

Not sure what specs will be useful so here are the main things: custom built computer inside a "Cooler Master Storm Enforcer" case with an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 motherboard, Intel i7 3770k, and Windows 8.1 Pro w/ media center.

Also as a side issue (that has been going on since before Windows 8.1) when I right click a word in Chrome to auto correct it that only works once per text entry. If I click the new word on the context menu nothing happens.

I've been fighting with Microsoft update web site for about a week and a half now. All of the sudden when I go there to get updates, all I get is the option to click on Express or Custom. Then when it gets to the page where ya see the green balls moving across the page while its scanning my system to see if I need any updates, it just stays there and if I stay at that page too long, my PC locks up.

I'm running XP Pro with 500MHz and 256 in ram. I've tried to contact Microsoft tech guys that I can barley understand and they have no idea what's going on. It doesn't make any difference if its a fresh install of XP Pro with nothing else installed except for my wireless card so I can connect to the net, or the current system I'm running now.

I was just wondering if anybody else has had this problem. I really don't expect any answers here because the guys who I could barley understand from Microsoft and have spent about 3.5 hrs with, had me renaming files and shutting this and shutting that off and on and nothing has worked.

They have told me that I'm the only person who has called with this kind of problem which I think is a bold face lie!

I welcome any comments or suggestions. Excuse me if I don't answer to this post right away because I'm trying every trick I know to try and get the updates my PC needs.

Hi, I'm having an issue with Microsoft Edge Flash not working, specifically on Pandora. I want to like it so much, it's close but it's missing some key features and various annoyances.

Anyways, Adobe Flash works just fine with Microsoft edge.

I have tried the solution to "Reset_Microsoft_Edge" via Windows PowerShell Command, which didn't solve the issue. (Also reset Internet Explorer's settings)

And Yes, before you ask, it's turned on in the settings.

What's very odd is that Pandora doesn't even use flash on other browsers, but it uses HTML 5.

YouTube Loads HTML 5 Videos in Microsoft Edge too, so I'm not sure what the problem is....

To be honest, it's a minor annoyance, Surely I can just use another browser, but that's bedside's the point. It's not working as it should, and I just want it fixed.

But I know that's crap, cause when I plug it into my desktop CP machine, it works fine.
I have installed all Vista upgrades, and updated the Toshiba thru their website, but I still can't get a MICROSOFT MOUSE TO WORK WITH A MICROSOFT OPERATING SYSTEM.

Thanx and best regards

MK

The power adaptor for my NTL cable modem doesn't work anymore. I know this because my modem would no longer power-up so I swapped the power adaptor from my speakers to my modem and my modem worked! So, I was wondering, where do I get another adaptor? Or is this up to Virgin Media to replace?

Note: It's a 10v OEM AC Adaptor.

Let me know if you need the model number etc.

alexander33831 you are replying in this thread, about "How to chose folder in .bat files while install from CD "
Umm nothing to do with your issue

You will need to go to here: http://www.techspot.com/vb/
Select the appropriate forum, and then create a NEW thread, just for you.

Do not reply here, just create a new thread. (you know everytime I say this, the person replies here, its happened so many times, I'm wondering what I should say)

My son's Lenovo Notebook's power supply plug doesn't work anymore, and he has only had it for 2 years. He bought one of the newest and most powerful ones, and thus a very expensive version i.e. a bit above 1,000.00 UK pounds. The same happened to my Lenovo tablet. Two years after I bought it the power supply plug went dead. I manage to make it work again about 3 weeks by replacing the cord, but then it died again despite trying with 6 different cords. I have also tried to blow clean the plug with a can of pressure air. Didn't help. After googling the issue I can see many Lenovo customers have the same problem, and that it has been going on and on since 2011 perhaps even earlier. So I assume Lenovo has addressed and solved the problem by now. I went back to the vendor with my tablet to have it repaired, and the response was that it would be too expensive to repair, and that I would be better off buying a new tablet. So I did. Do you think I bought another Lenovo? Of course not! We are never gonna buy any Lenovo products ever again. I still have the old tablet, though, and would be very happy if could be repaired. The same applies to my son's portable pc, he needs it for school projects, so it is quite urgent that his pc can function again asap. What are you, Lenovo, going to do to help us out with these problems? Sincerely Yours, Anna Maria Lassen PS Who has written 'What is DOS' right under my name in the top of this message? I am trying to use my CD-ROM drive and it doesn't work here are the list of things I have tried

Uninstalled and reinstalled the cd-rom driver it is a Matbleepa UJ-840D CD-ROM/DVD/CD-RW in my HP laptop (Didn't work)

Read stuff about code 39 and removed in the registry edit screen Upperfilters, Upperfilters.bak, Lowerfilters, Lowerfilters.bak and rebooted (Didn't work)

Removed itunes from computer (didn't solve the issue with cd-rom player)

Went back to a system restore point that was before the last time I used the CD-rom player and it worked and that (didn't work as well)

Read a lot of different posts about code 39 and nothing is given after the above steps are taken if it still won't work except to reformat which I would prefer not to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a MS account. I know the password. I am logged currently in at https://account.live.com/proofs/Manage

Today my brain left me for a moment and I bought a Windows 8.1 phone (640XL).

No matter what I do I cannot long in with my Microsoft online account. The phone says the password is wrong, which it isn't.

I tried creating a new account and again, on every login attempt I get the wrong password error.

Does anyone know what kind of new Microsoft madness this is and how I might avoid it, short of donating the phone to the local Op Shop?

Thanks
