Battery for T480?

Q: Battery for T480?

My T480 came with a battery that doesn't last long but also seems to have room for an additional battery. Could someone direct me where to purchase the additional battery? Lenovo support/chat/etc doesn't seem to want to help me at all, despite email requests, trying to enter chat (on hold for 45 minutes now) etc. Thank you!

Preferred Solution: Battery for T480?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Please reply to this post if you are experiencing the following discharging problem, or would have a perfect solution to it. Many thanks in advance  When on battery, the Internal Battery discharges First, then, the External Battery. I got the machine around a week ago, and my internal battery has already gone through 8 cycles (when reviewed through the Thinkpad Vantage App). Yet, the external batter has only gone through 1 cycle. Given the ease of replacing the external battery, and that Thinkpad advertised a "hot swap" battery bridge feature, I do not find a rational for the current discharging behavior. There is a relevant posts on Reddit, but draining both of my batteries does not get things back to normal.External link: https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/83vqj5/t480_internal_battery_draining_first/

I have been having issues with my battery on my T480 lately. I will have the laptop running around 50% battery and sometimes try to restart it but when I do, the laptop will not power back up. The Lenovo bios screen will post but when the Windows 10 circle starts spinning the computer fully shuts itself off and loses power and I cannot turn it back on until I plug the charger in, but when Windows loads it says I have battery. Yesterday I was using the laptop and when it went from 50 to 49% battery the laptop fully died and shut off and would not power on again until I plugged in the charger, yet showed 49% battery when Windows loaded again. I have been working out in the cold with my laptop and I am not sure if that is or has affected it some how but I can't keep having these types of issues when I need to be able to use my computer in the field. I know Lenovo used to have a tool to reset and deplete and recharge the battery, does this still exist? I ran the diagnostic tool but it finished instantly saying both batteries were fine with a time on the diagnostic of 0 seconds. Not sure if there is another tool I can be using to try and get this working properly again.

Hello, I have recently purchased a new Thinkpad T480 with a standard config which does NOT include dedicated Nvidia GPU, I just wanted to avoid potential problems under Linux which is the only one OS on my laptop. However, I experience quite poor battery life anyway. It hardly makes 5-6 hours although energy consumption according to powertop rarely exceeds 10W, now with few tabs open in the Firefox, it's 6-7W. Is it normal or there is something wrong with my computer? Honestly speaking, I expected longer results when I decided to buy this model. I would really like to avoid sending my laptop to the service since I need it basically everyday.I attach powertop results.

Hi, I bought a T480 back in March 2018 and the first thing I did was to put 32GB RAM ( 2 x 16GB Crucial CT16G4SFD824A.C16F).   I always found the battery life to be low... Around 4h in a youtube video playback loop.  I would kill it faster than that doing "real work". Yesterday, as a test, I remove the 2 memory stick and put back the original 8GB that came with the laptop. It seems 32GB kils the battery more than I expected. With low level brightness and idling, Lenovo Vantage gives me those number for the power draw (in Watts):32GB:  Around 7-8 Watts8GB: Around 3-4 Watts My question is: Does having 32GB really consumes that much power?  I've read that some have issues with the Crucial memory where they use more power than they should (low power). Anyone with 32GB can confirm their battery life is impacted that much or not?  And if not, provide the model of the ram, I'll order some!  Cheers.

I have stopped the reset on my T480 several times due to work interruptions and not seen and bad side effects. In your case there seems to be some error condition anyway, so I'd stop the reset let the battery discharge by a few percentage points and then try it again.

In Lenovo Vantage I"ve been getting some strange readings from my second battery. Every 3 minutes or so the second battery's status display goes blank and I lose most of the battery's information readouts. Some how I don't think this is normal activity and it seems like the battery is losing it's connection to the computer despite the fact that the battery's charge status is still being reported in the windows power widget. In addition the internal battery seems to like to drain first instead of the hot swap battery. I've read several forum posts on how Vantage drains from the battery that has more wear first but the internal battery has drained 3 times and the external has yet to drain first. This is what the battery status looks like in between these "grey out" episodes.I'd appreciate any help.

I've discovered a good while back that Lenovo has decided to allow the internal battery to discharge first on ThinkPads with the bridge battery system depending on which battery has a lower wear level. The T480_UserGuide_EN.pdf does not mention hot-swapping the removable battery, or how the Power Bridge works. I would like to know things like:1) Should the internal battery be above some charge threshold before hot swapping the removable battery?2) Is it safe to hot swap on AC power?3) Can the machine be used on only the internal battery (removable battery compartment empty)? Shouldn't this sort of thing be in the User Guide? Confusingly, page 101 says that the built-in battery must be disabled and the machine turned off and disconnected from any power sources before the external battery is removed. Have I missed something?

Even though I have about 80% battery, windows thinks I have 44% only. This is bad because when one of the batteries gets discharged, windows decides it has reached critical levels and hibernates the system. This started happening after I enabled battery charge threshold and set the batteries to charge only until 80% and only when below 40%. I tried uninstalling the batteries from the device manager but it didn't help.

When I first bought this laptop around begining June this year, I was able to slide off the external 61++ (72Whr) battery and the laptop would seamlessly use the internal battery. A few months later I bought an extra 61 (24Whr) battery which I can casually swap between the two. Lately though I only had the 61++ inserted, and left the 61 lying around mid-charge. Last night, because of a whole day out, the 61++ battery was near depletion, so I pulled it out and inserted the 61 battery. When I flipped the laptop over again, I realise the laptop was powered off (not even sleep blinkers), it booted up whole, and the Windows event log complaint of a sudden active battery loss and unexpected system restart. In the last month I've probably gone through two BIOS updates; could that be the culprit? Has anybody else experienced this problem after BIOS update? Or has it (unlikely) got something to do with the new version of Lenovo's Vantage?

On a few previous occasions, while running my Lenovo Thinkpad T480 running Windows 10 (10.0.17134 Build 17134), it shuts down without any prior notice nor warning, loosing any unsaved data. Each time it occurred, the machine started up just fine when powering on, still on battery only.It wasn't until today that I came to learn the reasoning. Prior before the unexpected shutdown, I had seen that Battery 1 was at 5%, and Battery 2 at around 80%. Minutes later, the laptop turned off without any warnings. Once rebooted and still running on batteries only (not plugged in), the battery status shows: Battery status after rebootIn other words, my laptop does not switch over to the secondary battery as soon as the first one runs out of juice. I have searched the forums but could not find any previous reporting of the same, so any advise how to troubleshoot this behavior? I'd really like to get this fixed as each time this occurs, I risk loosing any unsaved data.

Hi all, I have an issue with a T480s laptop once battery reaches 100% charge. When the laptop reaches full charge, the display on the T480 will automatically dim and lose ethernet connection momentarily. This can occur either when the computer is docked (ThinkPad USB-C) or connected to the 65Watt travel charger. It does not do this when it is 99% and below, strictly 100% and a few moments after it reaches it. Current work-around is to plug in the laptop charger once its low and disconnect once it hits somewhere in the 90's. If the laptop is docked, and battery is 100%, it will disconnect from LAN and auto-connect to WLAN (it is setup that way). In the case of strictly using the travel charger and working via WLAN, it will disconnect and would lose internet connection entirely. I've done the troubleshooting steps mentioned below and still having the same issues. Troubleshooting:Installed all pending Lenovo & Windows updatesincluded BIOS, ThunderBolt Firmware, Power ManagementModified power settings to not go into sleep mode when plugged into powerRemoved "turn off this adapter to save power" for both LAN and WLAN adaptersCompleted the "battery pin hole reset" from the bottom side of the laptop.Changed source of power Any ideas?

After my friend's laptop wouldn't run on battery power OR charge the battery I tried many "fixes."

Shockingly none worked that I found.

Only one thing worked for me to my surprise.

A last ditch effort was to open up the laptop (sony pcg-81114L) and disconnect the cmos battery for a few minutes to reset the CMOS.

To my surprise, when powered on, the battery instantly showed it was charging AND when removing the power plug the battery POWERS the laptop now! (and I'd thought I was wasting my time.)

Worked with an off brand battery also.

Many times this has saved many computers that have odd "unsolvable" things wrong with them.

Surely someone else has done this also but I haven't seen it posted anywhere to my knowledge.

Thank GOD for bringing the idea to remembrance!

Do you have any information on how this fixes the battery problem? would be interested to know.

Hey, I really need help. I'm having problems with my laptop. It's a dell inspiron 7559 and was bought around January. Recently I have seen that the battery has no longer been as hot as it used to be when I first started using it. Along with the sleeve on the tip of the screen power adapter (below the part where the adapter lights up) has started to come off, exposing the wires. The battery has continually dropped down its percentage rate ever since I bought it, and it won't go back up. It is currently at 0% battery life and it says when you highlight over the battery icon ( plugged in, not charging). It also happens to show the BIO setup when I start the computer and shows that the batteries wattage and type cannot be determined. In the BIOS setup, the ac adapter type is unknown. The battery has not been through any harsh conditions along with the laptop. I have tried removing the battery, starting up the computer with the ac adapter (which is 130 watts), then adding the battery back, and ac adapter, then turning it on, but it had no effects. If I remove my ac adapter while my computer is on ,it instantly turns off. If someone can support me with this issue, it would be gladly appreciated. Thanks.

A:Laptop battery not charging, battery not identified, 0% battery life

It sounds likely the charge circuit on the mainboard is damaged.  Contact Dell to have the mainboard replaced under warranty.

I was just wondering is it just me or you guys have the same situation going on with your batteries? Is there a way to change the order back to "normal"? .

Sorry  but see below post.  Basically you cant set discharge order.  The laptop checks battery wear and bases discharge order on that.  Many people including myself have asked for a BIOS switch or at least an option on discharge order but nothing has happened so far and I dont think its going to happen either.  I do not speak for Lenovo..

Depending on how your machine shipped, you may have a single 16GB stick and an empty socket, or two occupied sockets.

RELEVANCY SCORE 33.6

I've noticed my fan always stays on regading the temps when my machine is plugged on the 65W charger, temperatures remain between 38 and 57 on light use, but even when idling the fan kicks on as soon as I plug in my charger and turns off a couple seconds after I plug it off. I have tried to fix it by installing the patch mentioned on https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/es/en/solutions/ht506625 and changin the BIOS profile for the plugged status (it's on the same profile now both for AC plugged and unplugged) but the problem perists. Anyone knows how to fix this issue without the need to install 3rd party software or can point me to the windows 10 settings that regukate this behaviour? Thanks in advance.
