Laptop fell on floor

Q: Laptop fell on floor

My laptop fell on floor. It did not real damage; however, now my keyboard behaves a little erratic, meaning it behave like some different letters and the return button sometimes.

I have built a computer before. My question is, is it safe to take it apart incase it has moved a little to move it back, or if a key button has moved?

Kind regard tech land.

Preferred Solution: Laptop fell on floor

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Laptop fell on floor

Maybe the keys were a little loose and the underlying rubber pads are not aligned with the "outside" keys?
if you can have the laptop keyboard checked/aligned (for a minimal fee) would be wise.

in the meantime, if you agree with me, you can use a cheap usb keyboard as a temporary fix for your keyboard problem.

Hi guys,

I had the misfortune of dropping my Olympus FE-180 camera on the floor, with the power on and ready to take the photo.
When I tried to take a picture after that, the taken picture has lines in it, it's somewhat blurry but when I take the same picture with my room lights off, there is no problem in the picture, it's fine. Also when I record a video with it, the recorded footage is fine as well. Can anyone maybe suggest what seems to be a problem, I guess it's something with the lenses but I am confused about why it is ok when I take pictures in the complete darkness? Is there any way I can fix this or is it necessary to buy new camera?
Any help would me more than welcomed.

A:My Olympus FE-180 camera fell on the floor!

Sounds like the fall messed up the auto focus capability of the lense. When the lights are off it probably doesn't try to focus on anything and you get a non-blurry picture, but when there is enough light the auto focus comes into play and messes things up. Can you disable auto focus and try a few pics with the lights on?

Recently my laptop went off (not fully) due to accidental fall.

It stopped booting from hdd and an error ""hdl.dll" missing in root" started appearing on screen.
I tried to boot it from a bootable cd but the cd drive have lost alignment so dont read properly and hangs in between.
Couple of tries and i could boot in dos once and found that system and system32 are missing from c drive.
i also tried to recopy missing dll but didn't work.
Scandisk also did not work and hanged on the way.
Had to replace dvd writer to boot from a cd properly.
A thirdparty disk repair program sorted several cross linked files and at last i could install microxp on c drive to boot.
But it was a clean new boot so lost my all installed programs.
Recovery console of xp also tried.
Tried winxp pro but no way to recover old "documents and settings" though whole \program files folder is intact if browsed through explorer, it is not visible in through "start" button. Neither recover old registry etc etc. Network settings, drivers for other hardwares are lost.

Is there a way to get back all my old settings?
Thanks for reading.
Waiting for a solution......

That type of error is normally caused by either damaging the hard drive or forcing the connection by the drop.  When you open the unit to check on a loose connection, be prepared to replace the hard drive.

if windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. if power was interrupted during startup, choose star windows normally

launch startup repair(recomended)
start windows normally

i tried starting with windows normally and it said(after the screen was black for a long time)

A:laptop fell, cant get to reboot windows

This is all we have. You may have to reinstall or use recovery. If it was from a fall it sounds like hardware. In that event trying to boot will not work. You must bring it in for repair.

If you create a recovery DVD, you may be able to boot to recovery options
Create A Recovery DVD

The Vista recovery disk is used to boot Vista when it won't boot - to run Startup Repair, System Restore, access a Command Line, Recover using a Vista Backup Image, etc.
System Recovery Options

If Vista will not start now, boot the Recovery CD to run Startup Repair which automates System Restore as well as numerous other tests including System File Checker which can repair system files which are not corrupted beyond repair.

If Vista still will not start, try booting into Safe Mode to run sfc /scannow to repair System files.

Hei hei folks. Unfortunately my X1 carbon fell down from about 2 meters.Feel free to point out my stupidity for that (: When I tried to turn it on the LEDs went on, but the screen just showed some weird piece of art instead of BIOS output. Now additionally, I hear 2 short beeps before it turns off again.I googled, and apparently this can mean eitherthe POST returned an errora mainboard failure I tried to connect it to an external monitor, but there's no signal during the short time it's on. My plan would be to buy a new LCD panel, because it's obviously broken ? and hope that the beeps just come from the POST failing to check the LCD. Do you think it's too early to buy a new panel, should I try to investigate more?Is it worth fixing if the mainboard is broken? How could I find out? Thanks for your honest opinion.

Can hp send me some screws? My product is out of warranty

A:The screws on my laptop fell out and the hinges are loose as...

We need your exact model number. Screw kits are available on eBay for maybe $6-10. However, screws don't just fall out. They get stripped because something else is going on, likely hinge issues. The hinges freeze up and cause stress on the screws so that they get stripped out of the holes which means if you try to put a new screw in the same hole it will fall out, too.

I put my laptop on a small table. As I pulled the end of my carpet to fix it, the table accidentally flipped with the laptop.I didn't really paid attention when it fell but as far as I can tell the back cover of my laptop hits the floor along with the table. So I lift them up back to normal and continued browsing the internet.
The problem came the next day in the morning. As I was browsing reddit, the cursor starts moving on its own to the edge of the monitor. As for which side of the monitor, It's completely random but most commonly it's either upper right corner or bottom left corner.Continuing the story,I restarted my laptop and it still didn't solve the issue. Also tried google searching but no luck.
Here's a list of things that I have tried:
Reinstall drivers
Closing any third party programs
Restart the computer
Scan the computer using Malwarebytes
And here's my laptop's specs:
Dell Latitude e5410
4gb Ram
Intel core i5
Intel Hd graphics
Windows 7
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.(If you don't understand anything I said just ask me because I'm not a native speaker sorry.)

A:laptop fell and cursor starts moving on its own.

Just by the fact this problem happened after the drop would indicate it's a hardware problem and not a software problem. It could be the trackpad itself or the connection between the trackpad and motherboard. If you are comfortable disassembling the computer see the below Ebay page otherwise take it to a good shop. Make sure the wired connection is secure.

A:URGENT PLEASE stuck on automatic recovery (laptop fell but seems to be alright)

You can't use F8 to boot into Safe Mode.  Windows 8 / 8.1 boots too fast to enter this command.  You can set the computer to boot into Safe Mode once Windows is open, or you can enable the F8 key to boot into Safe Mode once Windows starts loading.
Dropping a laptop with it running can damage the hdd.  I would suggest running running SeaTools for DOS.  You will need to download this to another working computer and then burn the ISO file to a CD to create a bootable disc.  This disc should be placed in the tray of your DVD/CD drive, turn the computer off, then restart the computer.  Once the disc is recognized you will receive a message suggesting you to press any key to continue.
You may need to enter the BIOS to set the DVD/CD drive as the first device in the boot order, and the hdd the second drive.
Please download SeaTool for DOS to your desktop.  This will make it easy to find the ISO file.
When the SeaTools for DOS website opens click on I Accept, then click on the Download button.
This download is a ISO image which you will need to burn to a CD or DVD in order to create a bootable disc which be used to run the diagnostic tests.
To burn this ISO file to a CD or DVD use the instructions below.
Notice:  This applies only to Windows 7 and Windows 8, earlier versions do not have this.
1.  Place a blank CD or DVD in the tray of your optical drive and close the tray.

Hello everyone i just bought a house and wanted some thoughts on how to get the house networked up.

the house has 3 floors and 7 bedrooms and 3 "living rooms"spread out the 3 floors.

everything is can be ran to the middle floor garage or have everything ran to a closet on each floor ith 1-2 lines run to the middle floor.

this is what i have currently and what i was thinking about doing.

1x modem
1x retail router (i need to buy)
3x 3com 3300 xm 24 port ( i got these free from a friend)
3X wifi access point

this is what im thinking about doing please let me know if this will work

modem -->retail router----> split to 3 switches---->wifi access point

each floor will have its own switch and will have a connection from the router. the switches can be placed in the garage or on the floors it self. wifi will not really work with the way the house was built steel decking between floors. but i can have access points placed on each floor to take care of any wifi needs. Please let me know if any more info is needed and THANK YOU for any thoughts or ideas you can give me!

Two questions: I have an older version of Floor Plan Plus 3D (from the 1990's) installed on an old desktop computer. I now use a Toshiba Notebook running Windows Vista. Is anyone aware of a newer download of this program that will run on Vista. I have tried Sketchup and DoubleCAD and don't care for these. I also need to get some old FP files off my old desktop but no longer have a monitor. Can I hook up that computer to my Notebook somehow?

The "newest" version is v2,0a (from 1993) and only supports Windows v3.x

My G4 is dead! If I pull the hards drives, for future use, I need cases to make them extrnal - can you suggest a great dollar-value case? Also, does it make sense to swap-out the logic board and where do I get one or just buy a newer machine like a G5 of better? Does Apple really solder the video card on to the logic board?

On another note, what's the best priced anti-virus; spyware out there and why would I want Norton over say, AVG?

A:Solved: G4 dead on the floor!

In 2010, a G4 is basically a boat anchor.
Even a Mac mini is a better machine now. Upgrade to one of those.
Amazon has the best mini prices: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0013FK9U2

I got the normally-$699 Mac mini for $599 two weeks ago. It's $677 right now.
Keep checking, as prices seem to change daily on it. It was $612 last weekend.

Norton is a resource hog. You don't want McAfee either.

This is a pretty awesome enclosure: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B000P1NAMO
Only $40 and you get eSATA + USB2 + Firewire + it's aluminum. Nice.
This assumes your old drives are SATA, not IDE.
For IDE, get this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0009HMT9Y
It's a really nice USB2 unit, like those a lot for my oldest drives.

Apple loves to solder, yes. Always has, probably always will.

I appreciate some help after alot searching with no luck

I have 3 pcs. These 3 wireless pcs in my flat connect to my agreed friends wireless router in his flat above so all pcs have internet access. I have got file sharing working fine between all 3 pcs via wireless. We have agreed to move his router to my flat once his 12 month contract runs out so i wont have this problem but for quite some time i have to contend with him having it.

I dont want my internal lan to be dependent on his wireless router if it goes down not so bad if i just lose internet for that time. I am disappointed with the speed of wireless also so i want to use wired cat 5 between the 3 pcs as it be faster and more reliable bandwidth and still have internet access to his router. His router is netgear.
So in essence i want to connect a lan between 3 pcs without going through his router but have the internet from his router. What is the best way to go?

I hope to use an surplus d-link 614+ wireless router which i understand is a switch as well. instead of spending more money. Can i use this? I dont need the wireless part.

Can i connect up all 3 pcs to the lan ports of this d-link using cat5 and they see each other and still use the wireless access cards of each pc to his router internet at the same time. Do i need to configure any settings to make this work? Is this possible?

A:Wired and wireless router on 2nd floor

Absolutely! This can be done. I would HIGHLY recommend that you change the DHCP settings for YOUR router to be a different subnet than his. I will assume that the wireless network is operating on the 192.168.0.x subnet. Simply configure your D-link router to use something else like 192.168.1.x or 192.168.2.x or what ever in that third octet so long as it is different from the one your neighbor is using.

Your PC's should see each other on both interfaces and should prefer to use the faster over the slower and may even use both.

Hi everbody :

Most of the time, when I boot up (especially after opening

I then check task manager, and find nothing is still running.

If Turbo Floor Plan is running in the processes list - that is why it won't let you open it again, since you already have it running. You would have to end that process to open it again.

Chances are this a problem with the program and not your system. Probably best to contact them.

A:Dropped my Transcend Storejet25p 5oo gb on floor

When a harddrive makes a clicking or ticking sound that isnt good.If it was dropped that didnt help.hopefully maybe a usb sata/ide connector might be able to help you retrieve anything on there that you dont want to lose before the drive goes completely.if that doesnt work having the data retrieved by a professional could cost a lot of money and even then might not be able to be done.all harddrives can fail for many reasons whether its an internal or external one.its best that if you dont want to lose anything valuable to save things to a cd/dvd so it will be safe for a long time.

Hi network wizards!

I'm moving to a new home this summer and I've made a diagram to illustrate my ideal set-up (see attached, or link http://i.imgur.com/jrEWVlq.jpg)

What do you think will give me the best way to get the upstairs area to have fast wired and reliable wireless?

I was thinking of two options for wired:
1) Get the ethernet upstairs directly by running cat6 cable from window to window
2) Use a powerline adapter

And then for wireless use a repeater of some sort and hope the signal is good or buy a second wireless modem, connect it as a slave to the main router downstairs (not sure if slave is the right word) and use that upstairs for both wired and wireless. If I use 2 routers and each is broadcasting the same SSID would they interfere with each other and weaken reception? Do I need to create 2 separate SSID's?

Help, I know I'm a newbie and any advice would be much appreciated!

I accidentally dropped my camera and now the corner near the viewfinder is flattened and some of the silver coating came off. I just want to know if damage has been done to the internal electronic parts of the camera. How can I tell if the photo quality has been affected? I have a one year warranty. Think they will fix the corner for me? Thanks.

I acknowledge this may be a silly question but here goes...

For a normal tower computer without super duty fan has anyone ever bothered to determine at what ~ height off a carpeted floor will the fan suck significantly less carpet dust into the machine?

A:Tower height off floor vs. dust?

I'm going to say no, because it shouldn't ever be sitting on carpet anyway. Carpet is a conductor of static electricity, so if you need it on the floor, I would put something under it, like a piece of wood from an old shelf, etc.

Hi Everyone

I'm faced with a difficult problem here. I have my internal network hooked up on our lower floor and upper floor. We also have a secondary backup DSL line which is on the upper floor.

Now we want to setup wireless internet to our lower floor but the only we can do this is to run a cat5 cable through the ground.
I know there is another way to do it with our managed switches. Someone told me was called Virtual network or Virtual LAN something like that. You can configure one port from each switch to work with that "other network". So the downstairs switch will get the signal from that one port to use the backup DSL line.

It's something I'm not familiar with which is why I posted here to see if I'm going the right direction or if this is even possible!!

I was wondering if it was even possible to connect different speaker systems of an entire floor of people. I am living in a fraternity house next year and wanted to wire all of our different sound systems together so that when we wanted, we could play one song throughout the floor. Of course everyone will have different speaker systems. Is this possible?

A:Connecting mulitple, different speakers for an entire floor

You will have to buy a large PA system and connect it to only one music source to the PA AMP. You can "daisy-chain" many speakers to the amp, but the sound quaility will suffer

I know this may sound strange, but I noticed that if I rub my feet on the floor as my hands are on my laptop, my screen would flicker or dim. The body of my laptop is aluminum, and I'm assuming this is caused by the electrical current running through my body. The day before last, I got a BSOD about 10 seconds after my feet rubbing the floor. I'm not sure if this was the cause, but I would really appreciate your expert help with this. Thanks for time and assistance! - Mario

A:BSOD - Can it be caused by rubbing my feet on the floor?

The first crash was attributed to Zone Alam's True Vector driver (which apparently is uninstalled already)

Well as a first "line of defense" I would stop rubbing my feet to avoid the build up of static charges. Or at least take measurements to prevent static charges to begin with...they're BAD for the health of your electronic equipment. Apparently the charge enters the computer through one of the usb ports as the second crash shows (which blames

). Be careful...next time it might be your RAM or even your CPU. If you can't avoid building up charges, try to ground the computer case.
Or since the Laptop is so new, bring it back and have them fix the issue (I assume some half-*** tech forgot to insulate parts against each other)

Hi everyone,

i bought a costco floor model dell studio 15 about 6 months ago (i know that's probably the first problem). Even after changing the computer name there is still a "costco" user file on here that i cant get rid of and getting the "no permissions" error. I have read the other threads and cant seem to delete this folder. i copied and pasted everything i wanted from the folder to another and then (manually, sigh) deleted all the files and folders out of the "costco" folder, including the original music folder, pictures, etc etc. Even though the "costco" folder is now empty when i try to delete it it still says its deleting like 2G of thousands of files and then finally stalls at "you need permission..." I am running as admin and the contents of the folder have been manually deleted. please help before i make a vista/dell laptop flying saucer
