Dual Monitors (DisplayPort) not working on Pro Side Dock (40AH) with T480

Q: Dual Monitors (DisplayPort) not working on Pro Side Dock (40AH) with T480

I have two 27" 2560x1440 60hz monitors that are plugged into the new Pro side-connect dock (40AH) with a new T480 (Intel 620 integrated graphics) in Windows 10 Pro. I can get either monitor to work fine with the dock individually, but trying to run both simultaneously by extending or duplicating the desktop between them seems to fail as selecting either option under Display Settings just makes the primary monitor black out for a few seconds then come back - the secondary monitor stays black. There's no error msg or popup that would help me investigate further unfortunately. I'm trying this with the T480's lid closed, and I'm running the latest 1.14 BIOS update and latest Intel HD graphics drivers. This setup worked fine on my old OneLink dock and X1 Carbon previously, so I don't think it's an issue with the monitors themselves. Anyone have a similar setup with the new Pro dock that's working?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Not able to get two monitors (Samsung S27E450) plugged into a ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 docking unit to work with my X1 Yoga (Gen 2).   Montiors connected to docking via DisplayPort cables.   Windows 10 shows the monitors showing up as "Generic PnP" so something is being recognized.  Tried deleting the device in Device Manager, reboot.  Not finding the drivers on the Samsung site.   Any help appreciated.

Hi guys, I have a ThinkPad T480 combined with a Pro dock (side). I was hoping to use 3 external monitors (not including the laptop screen). The pro dock only has 2 display ports and the laptop has a HDMI port which i was hoping to all use to get my 3 displays. My setup is 2 VGA external monitors to display port adapters and 1 hdmi monitor to the laptops hdmi port directly. 2 display port monitors display fine, however the HDMI display goes black. If i un dock the laptop, the HDMI monitor works. Can i not output all 3 at the same time, i know the laptops chipset allows 3 monitors.I was thinking of buying a USB C to HDMI adapter for the 3rd monitor, maybe this would resolve it? thanks in advance

Hi Guys,I have a T480 laptop with a pro dock docking station and 3 monitors i want to try to get working.2 of the monitors are working fine via a VGA > DP adapter. The 3rd i bought a USB-C to HDMI adapter, though i cannot get this to work, even with the other two monitors disconnected. If the laptops undocked and the 3rd monitor is connected to the USB-C port, it works. Has anyone had luck with 3 monitors on this docking station? I have been considering a display port hub, can we use adapters with these hubs ok or does it only work if the cable is solely DP Thanks guys

Hi MikBoj,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As per the query we understood that you are looking for the details on screen resolution on your ThinkPad X230.

The maximum resolution for External monitor connected through DVI port is 1920 x 1200 on ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3, that means it will not support 3840x2160 resolution.

Please click here for complete details for ThinkPad Mini Dock Plus Series 3.

Hope this helps.

Hello, I'm wondering if it's possible to have a dual monitors on the HP ProDesk 400 G2.5 using both the VGA and DisplayPort at the same time. Will this allow me to extend the display to both monitors? If not, what will I need to purchase to gain this capability? Thanks,John

A:Using VGA in conjunction with DisplayPort for dual monitors ...

The VGA port and Display Port perform the same function just in different ways.  VGA is analog and Display Port is digital.  Unfortunately, it's not going to work the way you think.  You will be looking at the same information on two different monitors without the ability to drag and drop from one to the other.  In order to have a true dual monitor experience, you would need to purchase an inexpensive video card like the VisionTek Radeon PCI card which is specifically designed for this functionality.  This is due to the fact that the dual monitor ability has to be configured via the software that comes with the stand alone card. I hope this helps.

I have a Dell Latitude E7450 laptop with a E-Port Plus II port replicator connected to two external monitors using DisplayPort which will not output to multiple monitors.
I have another Dell model and when placed on the port replicator with two external monitors connected, booting into BIOS/UEFI the screen is cloned onto each monitor. However, when doing the same with a brand new Dell Latitude E7450 only one screen is active - the other is off. Within Windows itself, I can only have 1 monitor connected to the port replicator. If I undock, I can run 3 monitors independently indicating an issue with the dock rather than a hardware limitation with the laptop itself.
I believe the above tests eliminates the OS or driver issue and highlights a compatibility issue between the new Dell Latitude E7450 laptop and E-Port Plus II port replicator. I have tried this on 2 separate machines with the same results. I have also updated both the graphics drivers (Version 10.18.14.4170, A16) and the BIOS (Version A04) to the latest releases. I have also tried using DVI cables as well as swapping out the port replicators. Nothing works. In Windows 8.1 itself, it actually shows as two monitors active, but one is not on. If I swap out the monitors to a different brand, I get the same result.
Is there a BIOS/UEFI setting I need to change? Is there a newer port replicator or update I need?

A:Dell Latitude E7450 compatibility with E-Port Plus II with external Dual DisplayPort monitors

Did you resolve this issue and, if so, how? I have the same laptop (but running Windows 10) and the same docking station with the same results.

We have a few Lenovo displays we are replacing and wanted to get some USB-C displays for our few MacBook Pro users, but also work with our OneLink Pro & Ultra Docks. Ultra Dock works great with DisplayPort & HDMI. The MacBook Pro's work great with USB-C and Apple's USB to ethernet gets us all set there. The issue is the X1 (gen 3) with OneLink Pro dock. When we setup the dock with DisplayPort it shows the display is connected in the Display Properties, along with resolution and extended desktop, but the display itself shows nothing and has an orange light. We tried 3 different docks and laptops, 2 different P24h displays, and 3 different DisplayPort cables. Confirmed both the display and dock support DisplayPort 1.2. Any idea on what I can do to get this going? So far this is the best display we could find that covers all our bases for our needs.

Hi!X1 Carbon 6th Gen, connected to two seperate (home/work) 40AH docks running different 4k monitors @ 60hz via DP has recently started to blank / lose sync to the connected external monitors after the recent firmware upgrade available via Lenovo Companion and matched here: https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/options/n20pf03w.exe Prior to this firmware upgrade, both docks and their respective monitors were functioning entirely normally. The firmware has been pinpointed as the ugprade occured at work first (which started exhibiting the fault) whilst home was OK, then when the firmware was applied to home the fault began to occur. There seems to be no reason as to why the screen blanking occurs, the monitors exhibit symptoms of a cable being disconnected for a short period and then reconnected. I can only assume there is an issue with the firmware on the DP component on the docks. The OS does not seem to record any connected hardware change in logs (as if the dock was disconnected via power/data) rather it seems only the output of the dock to the monitors is faulting. All other system upgrades have been applied via Lenovo Companion and/or via the website drivers list. The fault seems to be exhibited during fast video / screen switching within the OS (Windows 10). Although most frequently during large excel documents (lots of horiztonal and vertical scrolling) Seeking assistance and/or the ability to downgrade the DP firmware on the docks to return... HP Zbook Studio G3 connected to two ASUS 24" HDMI screens (VE248H with different firmware) via the HP Tunderbolt Dock 3.  Screens are connected via Displayport to HDMI adapters. Upon boot up, one of the screens does not sync- which one is random. If it is the primary screen, the symptom is a loop of the screen blacking out ever 3 seconds or so for 2 seconds then lighting up again. Sometimes this is accompanied with an audible click. If it is the secondary screen the loop is the image wobbles every 5 seconds or so, blacks out briefly then comes back on.  I have updated the firmware on the dock, the BIOS, and all the drivers.  The daily steps to resolve the problem involve the Multiple displays option in Window's Screen Resolution. By changing it back and forth between the individual displays and the "Extend these displays" option I eventually get the screens to stabilize. Any help would be nice. Wasting 5 - 10 minutes each morning on this is frustrating.

Hi all,
Currently running a Latitude 5480 through a WD15 Dock. I have two monitors but can't get both to display. The dock itself has a number of connection options however it doesn't have two VGA ports. If I connect one of the monitors to the VGA port that works ok. If I use an adapter on the other VGA monitor to plug into the HDMI port on the dock it doesn't detect it on the Latitude.
Anybody successfully managed to get two VGA monitors to connect using the WD15, and if so how did you manage it?

Let's backup. What are the two specific monitor models? Link to the specific adapter you are using to try to connect the second monitor to the WD15. Read through the WD15 article, "How to Use and Troubleshoot the Dell Dock WD15".

This sounds like a driver issue. The drivers probably came packaged with your Vista but it did not come with Win7.
Go to Vista, Control Panel, Devices and then Device Manager (or get it from command prompt if you prefer).
Find the name of your Mic device.
Google the name of the device and find its drivers for Win/Win7
Download them and install on Win7 partition
Should then work

Hey everybody, I want to run Dual Monitors on my Dell Optiplex GX280 (I know it's not the best)

It's XP SP2 Home Edition
System Model: OptiPlex GX280
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.40GHz
Memory: 1014MB RAM

I've got an Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL Express Chipset Family with Display Memory of 128.0 MB.

My Monitor is a HP L1940 19". Capable of running up to 1600 X 1200.

MY Specs are in a text file and can be downloaded from here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ZW716SW3

Basically, I went out and bought a DVI to VGA adapter and a 2nd VGA to VGA cable for the monitor. I am sure both monitors work with both cables as I have switched and the likes and they both work. I have tried setting it up in the graphics options, but it says there is not a 2nd monitor connected. My graphics card has a VGA ports and a DVI port, so I connected the DVI to VGA adapter and thus now have two monitors hooked up to the card through two VGA Ports. But it is not registering that 2 are hooked up, only one. The Second Monitor is just sitting on the table here, plugged in, hooked up, but asleep and when it turn it on it says "VGA Input: No Input Signal; Dvi Input: No Input Signal"

What am I to do?

Hope to get this problem fixed asap. Thanks guys

I recently installed windows 7 on my toshiba qosmio f25-av205 with a the geforce go 6600 graphic card and I tried to attach a 2nd monitor to the laptop (sceptre 22") but the 2nd monitor does not display anything when connected and remains black and in standby mode. If I restart the computer with the 2nd monitor plugged in, the laptop's primary screen goes black and the 2nd monitor then displays the regular windows screen.
When i go to the nvidia control panel, it recognizes that two monitors are available and it will even show that the two monitors are on duplicate screen or extended screen, however only one monitor will actually be working.
I've updated my nvidia driver first by using windows update, then by getting updated drivers from laptopvideo2go, but none of the drivers i've used seem to give me two screens working at the same time.
I've tried pressing the windows symbol+p, and it will show that the screens should be duplicated or extended, but only one screen will work. Once the 2nd monitor is working I cannot get the main laptop screen working until I unplug the 2nd monitor and restart my computer.
I would greatly appreciate if anyone could help me out.

Welcome!

Certainly sounds like a driver issue. I am having a little trouble locating them for your card. First, are you sure that your card is 6600 and Go? I cannot find a Geforce 6 Go series. Another problem is that I do not know whether you have the 32 or 64-bit Windows.

Here is the link to the driver site: Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

Hopefully you can have better luck than I did.

Hope this helps,

I'm using an ACER X183H on my Vaio M with a Windows 7 OS. I'm using the monitor to extend my screen so that I can work properly but my laptop doesn't seem to detect it! It works fine and projects the display from my laptop onto the monitor, but I can't access the option to use the monitor as an extension of the screen.

I've tried updating my drivers, restarting but it doesn't work.

Wow! What a great little utility

Okay, here's what happens. I have had dual monitors on this system for years. The 2nd monitor has become temperamental and seems to come on whenever it wants to, and right now, that's NOT at all.

When I opened my Nvidia control panel, the first thing it says is that there is only 1 monitor, so I click "detect," and it detects the 2nd monitor, and I say okay, extend to this monitor, but the 2nd monitor doesn't come on.

I went to my Windows control panel, device manager, and it says only 1 monitor, but when I click "action," it "finds" the 2nd monitor, says that the drivers are all updated and fine, but I still can't see anything on that second monitor.

I have made sure my drivers are updated, that Windows is updated.
I have checked the cables (both DVI), and they're fine.
I've switched to other... Read more

A:dual monitors-- one keeps NOT working

Hello, it sounds like your monitor has had its better days, it happens. Get the exact model number and research on the net the type of issues most people has with it and see if any of those match your experience, but it sounds like the main board or graphic board is going out.
Research parts availability and cost; if you are handy enough you may be able to repair it yourself, if not, you would be better off replacing it.

A:How to get my dual monitors working

Wow, didn't know PB still made computers ...

Anyway, the best way to connect two monitors is by using DVI or VGA outputs. I don't think S-Video is going to work well for you. That output is for televisions and smaller resolution displays. If you have a 9600 GT there should be two DVI outputs on the back of the card. If your displays don't have DVI inputs, then you can get a DVI to VGA adapter for pretty cheap at any local computer store.

DVI is on top (gold), VGA is on the bottom (blue)

Hi,

My motherboard is an Asus ASUS M3A76-CM.

http://reviews.cnet.com/motherboard...rd/4507-3049_7-33638043.html?tag=mncol;subnav

Built the computer myself, but have not bothered with a Graphics Card, so just using onboard.
I have a VGA splitter. I tried using this, on the off chance it would give me dual monitor setup. But it doesn't.
So I am hoping somebody here would be able to tell me how to get dual monitors working with this PC.
Presumably I have to buy a certain graphics card?

Cheers

I had a dual monitor setup working just fine. I have changed nothing. Two LCD screens into my Radeon HD 5850.

Now it'll work if I plug a monitor into the top DVI on the video card; that's one monitor.

But if I plug the other monitor into the bottom DVI, suddenly both screens turn off (orange light on monitor power button) and my video card starts a high-pitched whirring noise, like a fan. I've never heard this before.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the video card is dieing.

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

A:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

I tried searching the forums, but couldn't find a solution.

I often work with two windows at once (i.e. firefox and excel) and have been trying to figure out how to dock them next to each other so I can work with them easier.

I assume this is a simple fix, I just haven't been able to find it yet.

Hopefully someone can help me out

Thanks.

Hello pipp22, welcome to Vista forums!

Have you tried r clicking on the taskbar, I've never 'experimented' with it so
so I don't know if that will help you or not.

Keep us informed.

Hi.  Hoping that someone can provide a little guidance, and show me where I must be doing something wrong. T480 (20L5 model) running Windows 10 1709 (Core i5, 8th Gen Intel)Thunderbolt 3 Dock (40AC model)Installed Thunderbolt Software is:  17.3.74.400System BIOS is:  1.12BIOS Thunderbol setting:  Security Level - No Security When I connect the dock to the laptop via Thunderbolt 3 connector, the laptop DOES draw power.  So I know that it basically works. What it does not do is anything else.  Connecting ethernet, usb keyboard and mouse, or even VGA monitor has no results. Des anyone have any suggestions about what I might be doing wrong here?  Other settings to check?  Or am I possibly dealing with a faulty component? Thanks in advance for any suggestions. Chris

All, Can you use the T480 with the Lenovo Thunderbolt 3 Graphics Dock that has the external GPU.Look for the solution to attach 3 external 2560 x 1440 monitors (DisplayPort and/or HDMI) at 60 Hz. Also would the 40AJ0135US Ultra Dock allow me to use the 2 x DP and 1 HDMI at the same time. Thanks

I'm using a Razer Trinity mouse, and it works fine, as long as I plug it directly into the laptop's USB port. If I try to use any sort of USB hub or switch (I've tried three different hubs -- each with a different set of USB cables) the mouse cursor randomly freezes on screen for about one or two seconds at a time. I tried installing the Razer Synapse 3 software on the laptop, and turned off the mouse lighting (to reduce power usage and rule that out), but that didn't help. I've also: -updated all drivers/bios via System Update-installed all Windows Updates-tried all three Windows power profiles

My computer always sets the primary monitor to the monitor on the left side. My primary monitor is on the right side of my setup. I can not move the monitor to the left side do to size and position. It doesn't matter which video card I plug the monitors into. All that seems to matter is which one is listed as primary and then automatically puts it on the left side. I cannot grab and drag the displays in the Nvidia display panel. I did not have this issue under Win XP only Windows 7. Any thoughts on how I can make the primary monitor on the right side?
