Refurbished Windows 7 Pro Operating System.....

Q: Refurbished Windows 7 Pro Operating System.....

Just curious if any Pros Or Cons ?? I'm about to Reboot my Computer in my quest clear out whatever is preventing me from taking Updates without Failure or Error Codes...I just recently purchased a Refurbished Dell that came with the Windows 7 Pro Operating System...The label on the CD that came with the Dell has the Microsoft Logo and Refurbished Windows 7 Pro printed on it as well... Pardon my Computer Illiteracy but I just want to make sure that I can Safely Reboot my Computer with this CD ?? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Refurbished Windows 7 Pro Operating System.....

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

A: Refurbished Windows 7 Pro Operating System.....

As long as the Product Key on the COA sticker is still readable you can use the latest Win7 installer with SP1 for your licensed version provided here to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

Pay close attention to how drivers are handled in Win7 and the Special Note for Dell Owners at the end of the tutorial. I would run the Delll bootable Diagnostics now to check over the hardware first, then if it runs only save that partition since Recovery won't run after reinstall. Dell Diagnostics Utility - How to Run the . If Diagnostics won't run the delete all partitions during the install.

Ask back any questons you have.

Hey all! I am pretty new to this kind of Win7 issues, so I hope some of you will be able to help. Story goes...

After few hours of gaming the computer died. (It happened right after switching keyboards.) Now, on every setup BIOS(?) comes up with list of options (F2 enter BIOS, F11 boot options, F6 Flash etc.). After that a black screen with error message comes up: Missing Operating System.

I tried rebooting from USB (since I have no disk-drive) and I keep on getting the answer: Error Loading Operating System.

Any ideas?

A:Missing Operating System/Error Loading Operating System

All unlikely, but possible - (a) your HDD died. (b) your bios became corrupted (c) your HDD boot sector became corrupted (d) your HDD partition is corrupted.

Does the drive spin up when you switch on (feel it)?
Check the bios to see if the HDD is reported correctly and is at the top of the boot order.
Find a bootable CD - an OS installer, or create Easeus partition manager bootable CD http://www.partition-tool.com/personal.htm and boot from it. What does the HDD look like with Easueus?

When i start my pc, i get a 30 second count down to either choose an operating system or system restore. if i choose windows xp professional, everything is fine. when i choose restore point, i get "INF file textsetup.sif is corrupt or missing, status 14. setup cannot continue. press any key to continue".
choosing last known best settings hasnt changed this situation either.
basically i just dont want to see this screen, it prolongs the computer start up. i just got it today as a refurbed hp desktop from buy.com. i tried system properties, advanced, startup settings and unchecked both boxes, as well as clearing the boot.iti file to no avail.
a rep at hp that was nice enough to just give me an opinion said i need the disk that came w the pc, which i obviously cant get. any ideas?
thank you so much for your time.

A:Choose operating system at startup-windows xp or system restore

You probably could purchase the disk from the manufacturer. They make a lot of money selling them to people.

Post the manufacturer & model of the computer, and verify the exact text of the message. That message is odd.

If I change my operating system to linux and delete my old operating system entirely, will I be able to still use system restore to change my old operating system back?
Please help. All help is appreciated.

A:If I change my operating system to linux, can I still use windows' system restore?

The simple answer is no. If you remove an OS then you can not use it to do a restore because it is no longer there to run the restore program. What I would recommend would be to have a duel boot system.

I used to think that there was something up with the 'system' file running in processes because it often times dials out to something when I'm connected to the net.

Before my fresh reinstall and putting in COMODO 4, I attempted to block system but it gets to the point where after system has tried to get through for several days the computer stops functioning properly.

So this time I left system alone but COMODO, through it's own default set up, has been blocking something called 'system' and 'windows operating system' which persistently knocks at my firewall.

So I am asking, is COMODO, through it's own default instict, in the right by blocking these?

And if these are trojans, where can I find and delete them? My scanners don't pick up the files and COMODO will not show a path to the files that are making these attempts on my firewall.

You know the story leading in; got a virus. Lost the operating system. Found that the CD/DVD Drive no longer works. I bought a new hard drive, only I can't format it. Our new computer operates on Windows 7, so can't use it to format the new hard drive. Can't operate old computer. Originally would just get black screen, with "No operating system found". Had F2 option. Bought computer recovery disc for Acer Aspire 3610, but computers disc drive doesn't work (I think virus got the driver). Finally bought a PATA to USB jumper, and pulled HDD from Acer. Connected HDD to good computer and found I could access folders, files etc. Had the good computer run analysis, and fix. Loaded HDD back in bad computer, and got setup windows. Now I can get to the point where the bad computer (Acer) asks for Windows XP Home Addition Disk and hit enter to load. Still no Disc operation. I have the Product Key from Acer for the Windows XP Home Addition. I am thinking I can get a copy of XP Home Addition from some site and download it to disc using the good computer using the Product Key. I don't know where to go to get it, or how to make the disc drive work on the bad computer in order to load. Any ideas, or clarifications needed?
Also, I think I can format the new HDD using the jumper (PATA to USB), but have to wait until I get some of those small jumpers to set the new HDD as a slave, so it will be recognized as a drive. Am I wrong about this?

Hi everybody :

This is a question about Windows 7 Operating System. I notice, every once in a while, when I boot up, the display gets stuck on the BIOS splash screen. Then I manually turn my computer off.....wait a minute before booting back up. Then the BIOS screen only displays for a second or so, then proceeds with the boot up process. Is this indicate that my Operating System might've gotten corrupt ? My Operating System is : Windows 7 Professional / 32-bit.

Hi!Why does HP come up with a MS Windows OS, and charge it's customers for it when they don't even want to buy Widnows. And then my laptop doesn't contain a Licence key, so recovery is another issue. We have to keep that partition. If we loose that we loose Wndows, or else it keep occupying GBs of our hard drive and a physical partition. Why doesn't HP just install a free Linux, and reduce the amount charged for windows from it's product. It will be a bit cheaper for users and will give them freedom to choose their own OS.

A:Why does HP come with a Windows Operating System?

Hi, Firstly; HP sells many machines with FreeDOS. Secondary; you can create a Recovery set yourself and keep it in a safe place. It contains Operating system and drivers which allow you to bring your machine back the Fatory settings status.Thirdly: the Windows key is in the BIOS of your machine. You won't loose the key.Regards.

I have a HP Pavilion 7dv that was working fine for a few years. Then one day it shut down and when I restarted it the computer asks for a startup password.  I have researched online to find passwords and have used a variety of ones I have found and nothing works.  It always loops back to the blue screen that says "Automatic Repair" - your PC did not start correctly.  I have the option of restarting or using advanced options.  Either way, when I try to fix the problem it always goes to a black screen that asks for the startup password.  I cant seem to get past that page.  If anyone could give me a way to enter a passcode or work around that would be great.  Thank you

Is there not a way you just reinstall the WINDOWS 8.1 system files like you can with APPLE OS ? Apples OS / Mackbook pro is very easy and actually just a click of a few buttons and it reinstalls the OS without having to reinstall any of the other software. . Its simple and does not take much time. This question was sparked because, when I upgraded to windows 10 from 8.1.........it just installed the new operating system WITHOUT deleting ANY of my programs and actually CLEARED up some of the problems i was having with 8.1 but for other reasons I had to go back to windows 8.1.......

I now, sit here contemplating reinstalling windows for the 5th time due to failed SSDs and some system file / firewall issues that Microsoft cant figure out. They tell me to do a system refresh but I don't want to have to reinstall all my programs. It is also very time consuming.

SO guys............please tell me there is a way to refresh JUST the windows operating system and registry? or something..........vs having to do a whole clean install again. .............. I dread having to reinstall all my work and personal programs.

I have done all the SFC /scannow and Chkdsk and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth ( not so sure what that does actually....or where it gets the image from but I ran them and came back with no errors.

Anyone know if this is possible and how?
Thanks in advance, for any helpful feedback or comments.

Sincerely, a very frustrated Windows user

Well I decided to build a computer because it was on my bucket list. I probably got a little deeper than my talent. Someone at the store said I could get some more performance using an SSD for the operationg system. I put the computer together and everything booted the first time. Imagine that. So than I rebooted loading Windows7 to the SSD. I had not downloaded and new drivers; however, good ole MS loaded some 54 updates.

I started tweaking files, moved temp and tmp to HDD and other items relative to using an SSD for OS and program files. Everything was fine, than, I come back to the machine and it says that it cannot boot. Tried repairing, no luck. Then I found a restore point and restored successfully. Windows says it has some updates to do and I said remind me in 4 hours. Came back to do some more stuff in 30 minutes and had the same message about booting, so I guess Windows just did the updates anyway. This time I was not able to repair or restore successfully. The diagnostic message said my Windows was on Drive E, which is the HDD.

Browsed the forums and decided that I would do a "Clean All" from the "Diskpart" command. Then reinstall Windows7 from the original MS installation disk. It seemed to me that I should be back to where is was when I originally installed Wins7. There are probably other things happening in the original install that I am not aware. But generally, if you get back to square one, you can re-install?

A few years back I bought a HP Pavilion laptop on Ebay with xp pro, office 2003 and some other programs preinstalled. Windows has sincestarted an authenticity check and tells me that the installed XP was from some type of multiple lisence and since it is not authentic will not allow me to update with it with the service packs. I have a copy of XP pro on my shelf that I had purchased with my old (non-working) computer but when I tried to authenticate laptop version with its product key was told it didn't match with the installed version. Is there some workaround to solve this problem?

Alternatively, can I remove the existing XP from this computer and reload with my purchased copy without losing my files and the other programs e.g. MS office.

If neither of those are possible, it would seem that the last alternative would be to save the hard disk contents to a Flash drive then remove and install the other windows xp system.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I downloaded and installed something called Untangle today. I didn't read the small details of it, I only wanted the main aspect.. This is the part I didn't see:

"Your hardware does not need an operating system ? the Untangle Server installs its own operating system.
The Untangle Server software completely erases any content or data that may exist on your PC hard drive."

I realized now that it was a very bad mistake. I couldn't use it without 2 video cards or something it said. This made Untangle utterly useless. Due to the fact that I couldn't complete the set-up, my computer is now unusable. I couldn't reach the desktop as usual (later on, I found out that it was deleted and replaced by Untangle). So I decided to go uninstall it. There is no uninstall button... I decided to go to safe mode.Safe mode doesn't work without a usable Operating System... I couldn't use F11 either to restore the computer. I decided to get a recovery disc. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the disc. Maybe it didn't even came with the box... I got my hands on 5 disc that said it could restore Windows 7. I booted the computer with the first CD. Okay, the disc has deleted everything including Untangle so that was no longer a problem. The computer then prompted to insert Disc 2. I did, however it wasn't working. It kept ejecting the disc out! I removed the disc and was left with no choice but to restart it. Now, the computer no longer asks me to set up Untangle. It's gone. Now all I see... Read more

A:Windows 7 Operating system deleted.

Another option...

I would suggest trying to obtain OS recovery media for your computer.
Go to the HP support website...
HP Support & Drivers | United States
The key is to start with the correct model number
then click Software and Driver Downloads,

On the next page, you're asked to select an operating system.
The Recovery Media link in the results list is only available if you select the Windows version your computer originally came with.

If you don't see a "Recovery Media" section, HP advises you to "make sure you are on the correct model number page and select another operating system."

If HP No longer has the recovery media for your system,
THEN, I might suggest going to MicroCenter or NewEgg for a copy of Win7.

Alright, so this problem is a little complicated.

My computer fell a couple days ago, and I had to get a new hard drive. Unfortunately, my mother let my uncle who is NOT a professional install a "new" hard drive, which was actually his old one and came with Linux and not Windows.
It worked fine but I wanted Windows, so he did something and installed Windows 7 from a flash drive. And it was great.
Until this afternoon, when I accidentally changed the BIOS order and now I'm getting an "operating system not found" message... Is there something wrong with the hard drive (again, it isn't new) or did I just completely mess something up?

A:Help installing operating system windows!!!!!!

Having everything plugged in is good, but if you haven't installed everything properly, the system won't be able to find the optical drive, which seems to be the problem you're having. There are a few items that could be responsible for that type of problem, so let's take a look and see if we can figure this out.

Just a heads-up about installing Windows, or any OS; it will install MUCH faster if the IDE devices are connected to different channels. The HDD should be the only device on the Primary IDE channel, jumpered properly, and the optical drive should be the only device on the Secondary IDE channel, also jumpered properly. If you're installing Windows with only a single IDE cable connecting both IDE drives, the installation will take a lot longer.

First of all, if you're using the HDD on the Primary IDE channel, with the internal optical drive on the Secondary IDE channel, SHUTDOWN the system, UNPLUG IT FROM THE WALL, and put EACH device at the END of their own IDE cable. Then, set the HDD jumper to "Single", NOT to "Master". Similarly, set the optical drive to "Master", not to "Slave". Many IDE optical drives are set as Master by default at the factory before shipping, but you might as well make sure that the jumper is in the right place; if someone moved the optical drive jumper to "Slave", the drive will not be recognized by the CMOS / BIOS when it polls the hardware.

Or, if you're ... Read more

It seems that my toshiba satellite L20 laptop pc doesn't detect the hard drive and displays "missing operating system" on screen. Before it happened, I was trying to install Kubuntu OS and 50% of the hard drive was formatted and taken by Kubuntu. However, the installation process failed and the NTFS partition for my windows ware reduced to 50% (20GB). I tried to repeat the installation of Kubuntu. Unfortunately, the installation process again failed and 50% of remaining 20GB was further reduced to 10GB for my windows xp. Since then, whenever windows xp is running, it always says that there is no enough space and I need to clean and delete unused files.
I have used the administrative tools in the control panel to recover the 75% used in the installation of Kubuntu. I have combined these partitions into one and reformatted them again. I can't remember if it was reformatted in NTFS or FAT32. I think by default, it was reformatted in FAT32. I wanted to combine the 10GB currently being used by windows and the remaining 30GB to restore them back into its original condition. I couldn't do so. After couple of days, the screen just shows "missing operating system".
I tried to use the product recovery disk but to no avail.
Please help me on what should I do to restore it back to normal.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Hi all, completely new to this forum, registered purely because of the problem in the title.
I'm an every day home user and not that experienced with advanced IT stuff although I do know more than your average home user.
Now, to the problem.
I was using my Sony vaio laptop (CW series bought in November 2009) as usual about 4 hours ago, when the HDD appeared to make a strange beep/clicking sound, and my computer completely froze up. In a state of slight panic, I held down the power button and forced my computer to shut down.
Upon restarting, the vaio logo appeared, the screen went blank and the message 'operating system not found' was displayed.
I turned the laptop off via the power button again, left it for a minute and then switched it back on. I had the same result.
After searching the net on the family computer I discovered that checking the the BIOS may be the the next logical step. What I have gathered from the vaio's BIOS is that my HDD is listed as having '0GB' memory. I have also checked the boot priorities (?) and hard drive is listed as priority one as the net page suggested it should be.

My specs are:
Sony vaio vpccw1
Intel core 2 dual core possessor (2.8GHz roughly)
4GB of RAM
320 GB HDD
(I don't know how much of this is relevant!)

I do have recovery DVDs that I created when I first got the vaio.
I also have a Windows back up on a portable hard drive from April this year (but obviously I would like to retrieve the files I have saved since then... Read more

and welcome to the Forum

I would run diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading the diagnostic tool for the hard drive brand and making a bootable disc.

See this for how to make a bootable cd:
