Odd msg whilst starting, 2 days till installation ends!

Q: Odd msg whilst starting, 2 days till installation ends!

I put Windows 8 onto my PC yesterday, pretty good so far, but this afternoon I now see a weird message as it boots up:

'Your PC will restart in 2 days to finish the installation'

I have known PCs restart immediately upon adding new stuff but why 2 days??? Is everything OK?

Have other ppl had this?

Preferred Solution: Odd msg whilst starting, 2 days till installation ends!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Odd msg whilst starting, 2 days till installation ends!

Might be they are non critical updates that need to install at some stage.

Perhaps it is for always on users - just letting you know if you don't restart in the nearish future, then it will do it automatically.

I don't know why they chose 2 days.

I've had a BSOD 4 times in the last week around the same time of day (7.30AM) whilst my PC is idle, but I can't see how to read the minidumps.

Could someone please have a look at the attached dumps and point me in the right direction?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey there,

This is my first post here.

Basically, in the last week (Thursday 16th and last night) I've had two blue screens. The first thing I should say is that both of these occurred whilst I was playing the new PC release of Grand Theft Auto. In both cases I received the same message: "driver irql_less_or_not_equal", which I'm assuming has something to do with an out of date driver somewhere?

That's about all I can say about the blue screen messages themselves as I had no time to take down any of the information and because I've never experienced these issues on any machine. I do however have the dump files which I will upload.

When the second blue screen occurred last night I was concerned that it may have something to do with my new RAM, which I installed last Thursday. I've since realised however that the first of these incidents took place shortly after midnight on Thursday, and the RAM was installed in the evening later that day.

Out of interest, I'm using Windows Home Premium 64bit.

There is no other obvious symptoms of a problem with the PC, but I'm keen to find out the issue.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello again TSF,
I've recently encountered 2 Blue Screens within the last 2 days, that appear to occur whilst playing the Facebook game 'Sims Social'...
Of course that's probably just a coincidence, but i've never encountered BSOD's on this computer yet (had it for less than 1 year).
It may also be worth noting that if i remember correctly, World of Warcraft was also running in the background whilst alt-tabbing to play on the Sims Social, just incase this links to any reasoning behind the crashes.

Attached (hopefully) items include the required tests from the sticky, aswell as the 2 dumps from the bsods.

? OS - Vista/ Windows 7 ?
Win 7 64-bit
? x86 (32-bit) or x64 ?
? What was original installed OS on system?
Win 7 64-bit
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)?
? Age of system (hardware)

? Age of OS installation - have you re-installed the OS?
Reformatted maybe 1 or 2 months ago.

A:2 BSOD's 2 days in a row, whilst playing Sims Social?

Okay it would appear that it has absolutely nothing to do with Sims Social
Just had another BSoD, literally within 2 hours of my last one, this time whilst playing World of Warcraft.
I have attached the minidump for this crash.

EDIT: Just to note, after restarting the PC from a crash, a directx9 error pops up. Can't remember exactly what it states, but it's something along the lines of it having issues starting up i believe. The little 'boodle-boop' noise that sounds when you plug in a USB plays a couple of times after a reboot from BSoD.
Sorry if any of this is irrelevant, just feel as though I should note everything i can think of! :)

Recently , even after a morning start up, IE7 fails to view and an error box pops ups. The one that asks you if you want to send an error report. If I restart again it's 50/50 to get to see IE7 working.

Not sure if this is related, but in the evnet viewer I've noticed event ID's 1000 & 1001 are listed in the same times that this happens

Any ideas?

SpyBot is autostarting as usual at system start but ends almost immediatley. Closer examination shows that it is only checking for 35 villains. When complete the report starts by saying there are no problems to fix then lists 3.

An unistall/reinstall seems to have fixed the problem but I'm wondering what might have caused it, and is it likely to reoccur?

A:SpyBot ends almost immediatley after starting

go to here and download 'Hijack This!'. double click on the file and it will self extract to C:\program files\hijackthis.
Go to that folder then doubleclick the Hijackthis.exe
Click the "Scan" button, when the scan is finished the scan button will become "Save Log" click that and save the log.
Go to where you saved the log and click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" then Paste the log back here in a reply.
It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

There are black and white checkered pixilation even when it shows the stats of my computer and it will end up going to the blue screen of death and rebooting until the screen is back to normal then it will load up normally.

Hey there SevenForums,

I've been searching over the net for a while looking for the answer to the whole 'DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL' crash for some time now. My system is stable (for the most part) and I only see this happen when I begin a download for any game on Steam.

I've used the BlueScreenViewer to peer into the .dmp file and see what had caused said crash.

This is what I got.

((If you pay close attention, you can see that I have spent some time poking at this computer...))

I've tried reinstalling the offending application, but it didn't seem to have an effect on anything.

The zip file containing all the goodies of the crash details are attached to the thread in case they are needed. I also apologies in advance for my ignorance in some areas. I may not be paying careful attention to the minor details in my work as I eat my cereal on my desk. If any addition information is needed for assistance, I will be happy to go and retrieve it.

(Which should be proof enough. Who would willingly eat a bowl of cereal with liquids in it over their brand new computer? A sleep deprived individual, that's who. I will stop ranting now.)

I have installed XP on several different computers so far, and I am trying to upgrade my dad's computer (Athlon xp 1700, soyo dragon-lite mb, 256mb ram, geforce 2 mx) to XP home without avail. I am not sure if I need to load the VIA chipset drivers or something before I load XP, and I'm not even sure how I would do that without windows on the box first. Windows XP will start its setup, get to the installation, then at random times will just lock up and give me an error message, but not the same one every time. I checked soyo's website and it says the dragon-lite is compatible with xp, in fact, I have another box with the dragon lite mobo in it and an athlon 1900 and it works fine...

I'm really stumped here.. I understand comptuers pretty well, but this one is getting me! any helP?

edit: The system was running windows 98 before, which was working fine. It seems as long as I install something that uses the FAT 32 file system, I'm fine, but as soon as I try to use ntfs, I get screwed.

Hi there. I've built a new HTPC. I'm trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on my HDD using the latest version of Rufus to make a bootable USB drive. I've realised that I have UEFI BIOS now, so I've searched for tutorials on how to setup Windows 7 using UEFI and a USB drive. I've disabled Secure Boot and Fast Boot in the UEFI BIOS. I've made bootable USB drive using GPT partition scheme for UEFI, FAT32 file system and default cluster size. The UEFI BIOS shows my UEFI USB drive and boots. But then, after "Windows is loading files" window, setup ends up with a blue screen. I have only one HDD and it's not empty. It has Windows 7 Ultimate x86 installed that I use on my old system and I'm forced to use for now.

Hi Everyone,

I have a DKT-702 Computer (OEM brand, from Harris Technology in Australia). I have identified that it uses a Foxconn H67M-V motherboard, which utilizes the Intel H67 chipset. I would now like to add a RAID1+0 array (utilizing 4 x 1 Terabyte Drives) to my computer, however I need to keep my primary hard drive (a Samsung EVO 840 - 250 Gig SSD).

The motherboard manual clearly indicates that the motherboard does support the RAID type that I intend on implementing. I have a little bit of experience with RAID on personal computers, so I plan to go about the task as follows -

1). Disconnect the primary (SSD) drive
2). Connect the 4 x 1T Disks
3). Enter the BIOS and set the "IDE Mode" to RAID
4). Enter the RAID Utility & setup the RAID volume
5). Partition the new RAID volume as I see fit (it will only be for data, no OS).
6). Plug the primary (SSD) drive back in
7). Start the computer up
8). Install the Intel Matrix RAID drivers into Windows (7)
9). Reboot

Given the following intended procedure is there anything that I should be particularly careful about? Alternatively if anybody can suggest a better procedure I am very open to adapting my plan. My primary goal is to keep my primary drive safe from data loss, and to implement a new RAID1+0 array purely for the storage of data.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

We've tried all the fixes, and batch files from MS, and elsewhere, but Almost all new installations of Windows 7 will just not get updates. I have 2 machines we have formatted twice and reinstalled Win 7 and one literally has been sitting waiting for updates for 2 solid weeks. (it's not crucial, and we're sort of using it as a test. We're starting to wonder if it's an I.P. issue or something, because it only seems to be our location. I am going to grab that Vaio and bring it home and see if it works here, but for the first 3 years in our location, and some 3000 jobs (obviously not all Win 7 installs) we had no problems. Now, whether you set it to automatically update, or download and let me decide, changing time and date etc. Activated or not. It's really odd, and none of my research is finding a cause for it. Has anyone else experienced this?

Machine is an ACER 5740G laptop.

- 7 months ago I've installed Windows 7 64. Drivers from here: Download Drivers and Manuals | Acer Official Site
(insert 5740g in the search box and select the aspire 5740g to see the drivers)
- 3 months ago my laptop won't display anything. I've connect it to an external monitor and managed to find the problem: the well known atikmdag atikmpag ati driver issue. Uninstalled and installed the driver and it worked....
- for 2 weeks. Same problem, only now it was a bit harder to solve. Decided to go for a clean installation of Windows 7. Installed the same drivers as above except for the VGA one. Instead of the one recommended there I went for the latest from the AMD website, a generic Radeon GD 5000 series driver. The old one was specifically for my video card: ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470.
- soon after installing Windows and drivers I get constant BSODs. I've expanded the atikmpag, atikmdag files with cmd thinking they were the cause. Still BSOD.

I believe the problem might be the old drivers (they seem to be from 2009) conflicting with new Windows files. Should I get newer drivers from elsewhere?

There is a BIOS update for your laptop model and I would recommend that you update it especially when it says that 1.22 updates the ATI VBIOS and that might be why you have had problems with the graphics. Please go here and enter 5740g into the model:

And click the BIOS/Firmware tab and download the latest file.

A:Sound not work after few days of installation

Are you using a sound card and/or does the comp have integrated sound?

Does a System Restore make it work again?

If so, it is likely automatic updates are overwriting the original drivers with something that doesn't work.

So, in that case, set Updates to Notify only and don't let sound drivers be updated.

Just little things but annoying! Particularly the delay at boot before the login screen shows up:

Also checked/uninstalled last install that i don't need, but still it's dong it!

Hi there,

Since this problem is still there even after a format you either have a defective XP CD or worst yet your harddisk is going bad.

The easiest thing to try first is to get another XP installation CD from someone and try that. if the same problem exists, try if you can to get a different HD and test (don't buy a new one yet).

BTW, when you formatted did you choose the Quick format option? if yes do it again without it .. this way if there are any bad sectors on the HD they will be detected.
good luck and let us know what happens.

Ciao for now.

I have Win XP Home. By default the backup utility is not installed but can be installed from the installation CD. I have run the installation of the backup utility and everything seems to go as one would expect. I have a retail Windows 7 DVD with both 32 and 64-bit versions. Every time I try to load it, the system freezes at the "Starting Windows" screen where the Windows logo is supposed to animate. It freezes before any colors come up though.

I have also tried to install Windows Vista, and even XP, with no results. It always freezes right after all the files have loaded and it starts loading Windows.

I've tried removing one of the two sticks of RAM, and removing everything except the integrated graphics. I've even disabled the hard drive controller except for the one connected to the DVD drive. I've used multiple drives as well. Nothing will make it load, even letting it go overnight it does nothing new.

My motherboard is a Biostar TA790GXE 128M, the CPU is an AMD Athlon II 245, the memory is 2x1GB sticks of Wintec ApmX DDR2 extreme 800 MHz, and the hard drive is a basic Western Digital 500 GB. The DVD drive is a Lite-On DVD+-RW burner.

Anyone have any ideas why I cant seem to install anything on this?

A:Installation freezes at Starting Windows

Do you have the latest BIOS update for your model computer or mobo, from the maker's Support Downloads webpage for your model?

What is the SATA controller setting? Try clearing the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Test your memory overnight using memtest86 bootable CD. Try installing with one memory stick.

Download and burn to CD the DOS version of Western Digital Lifeguard and do the full scan. Then zero the HD.

I save troubleshooting time by removing the HD and installing in another machine to install Win7. When returned to problem machine it will swap out all drivers, requiring multiple restarts, but so far performance is normal.

Hello there people of the internet, I find myself in quite a bit of a problem.
Ever since April, something happened that caused me to get the "Desktop Windows Manager is disabled" problem, even though it was constantly running.
Aero stopped working, and my mouse would completely disappear to the left of the screen instead of stopping at the left most pixel.
Yesterday I've had enough of that, and seeing as uninstalling Internet Explorer 10 and that particular update that ended with 383 in its name did nothing to help it, I decided I might "upgrade" my existing Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit installation to the same thing, thus essentially reinstalling.
After a very lengthy installation (understandable, apparently I have over a million files and the majority of my hard drive is full, I have around 75~GB free out of 460~), my PC restarted once more, and this time it was about to finalize Windows 7 by performing the "starting windows for the first time stage".
A few seconds into the loading screen, and I got this:
http://www.mediafire . com/convkey/c37b/xf6awn1sxdky5omfg.jpg
A BSOD with an error that doesn't mention any kind of file at all, just the following error: STOP: 0x0000001E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000005, 0xFFFFF88005DF24CO, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) That error keeps happening every time I try to boot up, and it seems that safe made can't finalize the installation itself, either.

I recently got my first SSD (woo!) so I had to unfortunately go through the Windows reinstallation process. All was good, SSD gave me awesome boot times as well, until a few restarts later. Now whenever I start my PC the boot takes a bit more time at the login process, and then once logged in the screen is black with only the cursor and I have to run explorer.exe manually...

I checked the "userinit" registry key (don't remember the exact path, posting on mobile) and it contained only "explorer.exe" as it should. I've tried SFC /scannow and dism /restorehealth but the problem persists..

This started with first being unable to boot Windows at all. Booting led windows to start with no interface. I could move the mouse pointer on a blank screen and that was it. Same thing happened while attempting to use my set of recovery disks.
Finally I downloaded an .iso and attempted a fresh install, with the result that it froze before setup even started (just after the language settings screen).

(Windows came pre-installed - but I removed the hidden partition on which the setup was kept some time ago, after making the recovery disks)
I've spent several days searching the Internet for possible solutions, but none of them have worked: Limiting RAM, using a different dvd... Nothing changes.

Using Linux I've determined that the hard drive has no bad clusters, and that the computer can indeed still install and run an operating system without issues.

Any ideas?

Hello this is my first post. Im pulling my hear out here... Please help.

Ok, iv had a self built pc for about 3 years now. Amd phenom ll quad 3.2ghz, 4gb ddr2 ram, gigabyte motherboard, 64bit windows7 proper disc. I have a 64gb ssd just for windows and 320gb hdd for my files and programs. In the 3 years iv had a few normal problems come up. Iv had to put my windows disc in a few times to either do a repair or even do a fresh install. Iv always been able to get it up and running again. Im not a total wizz kid but i know enough to build one of these things and i know my way around them pretty well. But this time i need to ask for help. Im baffled.

My problem is... Couple days ago i turned it on as normal. It boots up ok, i hear the beep. I then get the 'starting windows' coloured balloons. And thats it. Its not getting past that stage. I tried restarting a couple more times. Exact same thing. Now a little concerned but nothing i havnt overcome before, i resort to my windows disc to maybe do a startup repair. Set cd rom first in bios and restart. 'press any key to boot from cd' Great. Then, 'windows is loading files' all as it should be. Then i get the 'starting windows balloons'. Again it wont go past this point. Iv left it for a few hours and its still on the balloons.

My disc wont come up at all. Iv retried this loads of times to no avail. Then tried using an external dvd drive. Exact same just a little slower loading files. Now getting pretty worried cos this is unch... Read more

A:Expert advice please. Windows installation disc not starting. Help.

Hi someone told me to try linux to to test my hardware so....
OK Guys, I downloaded Ubuntu last night, burned the image to a disc and tried it in my pc. I left my hdd disconnected so I was going straight onto the formatted ssd. Started my pc and it booted up fine from the disc. Ubuntu come up and I could go through the installation process no problem. It installed fine on my ssd. I restarted a few times to test the booting up, it was on the desktop within 30 seconds. So all my hardware seems fine to me. At this stage I was hopeful that when I now put my windows 7 disc in that things might start happening.

So with my hdd still disconnected I put my windows disc in hoping to now install windows. Start PC, boots up fine. 'Press any key to boot from cd' good so I press a key. 'windows is loading files' and then 'Starting Windows' again. This time I thought it would now get past this stage. BUT NO. exactly the same as before. Left it for half hour and still on that screen. I even tried taking my graphics card out and ran straight from the outputs on the motherboard. Still did the same thing.

Is it my windows 7 disc. Shall I buy a new disc. What else could it be. Any suggestions ANYONE PLEASE.

Setup is starting services.

Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer, restart the installation.

About one month ago I decided I wanted to have a clean install of windows 7 on my acer machine. I did this by using an acer made pre-installed program. It claims to be very straightforward, all you have to do is click a button and they will reinstall windows 7 for you and even back up all your data , so that after the clean install you don't lose a thing. Sounded great but in reality it has stopped my notebook from working.

I am now in a circle-jerk of the error message I stated in the beginning of this topic. Once my computer restarts it just gets me the same error message again.

I tried booting from a bootable USB-key with the windows 7 iso downloaded from official sources. But this did not do anything from me. I also went to acer support in my city. They offered me to fix it. All they had to do is copy all the info of my hard drive I wanted to keep and do a fresh install of windows 7. Would take them 3 hours. This is the easyiests option for me. But problem is I live in China and I don't trust those tech support guys for good reasons. I went there with my laptop, the tech-support guy put in a usb-key and started up my computer. It started some kind of diagnostics. After 20 minutes of this he stopped the diagnostics and started running some chinese software on my computer. Presumably booting from the USB-key. Is there still an installation to attempt repairs? If so boot into System Recovery Options to run Startup Repair repeatedly.

If this is only a failed install at this point, try wiping the HD: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Has it worked before to install successfully? If not confirm the ISO and burn another DVD using IMgBurn at 4x speed, or write ISO (extracted using ImgBurn) to flash stick using Universal USB Installer, boot under USB, Removable or HD's.

A:Extending Evaluation Period for 120 days.. only extends for 3 days?

If you have a valid copy of windows 7 with a legit COA sticker and can activate it without problems i dont see any need to even have an evaluation period. If your copy of windows 7 isnt valid and the COA sticker isnt anygood id suggest you buy a proper copy of windows 7 with a legit COA sticker and go from there.Because eventually it wont work anymore and you will be locked out of the computer.

Hi guys

I have searched various places for a solution but not quite getting a complete answer for my problem or perhaps I'm just lacking the understanding.

I have an Acer Aspire s3 391 , preinstalled with windows 8. I used a bootable usb with windows 7 64 bit to try an install windows 7 instead. I initially tried to run the setup from my desktop and somehow I messed up the installation. I can now no longer start windows and get back to my desktop.

I am now trying to reinstall windows 7 again from my bootable usb which I now made using RUFUS from a tutorial on this website.

I have tried using the UEFI Boot mode.

This is my bios when using it

this takes me as far as the windows loading screen

thereafter windows starting and freezes.

I then tried using the Legacy boot mode using another usb made using RUFUS.
My bios was now

After going through the initial installation set up screens, I select custom install, and it his takes me as far as the step where you choose disk partition to install, but there are several disk partitions

and a message says that the main 450GB partition is of GPT style which doesn't allow.

I am unsure how to go about installing windows now, which method to choose, and which disk partitions to use as there are several.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Sorry about the long post just wanted to be absolutely clear!
Thank you

A:Installation stuck on Windows Starting screen - UEFI based laptop

Try clicking on the Drive Options (Advanced) to delete all partitions, as fundamental to reinstalling any Windows OS as booting the installer.

I notice when you try UEFI mode there are no UEFI devices listed to boot. Try it again and this time put in the DVD or flash stick formatted only with Option One of UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows.

Either way you must delete all partitions using the Drive Options pictured in Steps 7/8 of Clean Install Windows 7 during install to begin, then either create new partitions if you have a scheme in mind (e.g. OS on one, Data on another) or create and format one large OS.

Thanks in advance and hoping for your advice.

A:Winxp Installation On Toshiba A105 Laptop Freezes On "setup Is Starting Windows"

Are you reloading from the Toshiba supplied recovery CD/DVD's? If so, the most likely cause is a scratched or dirty CD/DVD.

If it's a regular Windows installation CD, then it's likely to be either the scratched or dirty CD/DVD or a hardware compatibility that isn't covered in the standard XP installation media.

From my research your laptop has a 60 gB IDE hard drive - so the SCSI/Mass Storage driver won't be likely to help your issue here (often the Mass Storage device on laptops is actually the SD Card reader)

Have you tested the hard drive (with a bootable diagnostic available for free from most hard drive manufacturers)? That could be causing these issues also.

As I understand it, with the new anniversary update after 10 days one will get disk space back relating to Windows.old being deleted automatically (if PC is left idle for a while).

i also believe that if a PC upgrades to Windows 10 then the new anniversary update wouldn't be offered until 30 days have elapsed. However with the aforementioned change to 10 days for rolling back the anniversary update I wonder if that now also rings true for previous 10586/TH2 build? We got a new mini PC approx 10 days ago, Windows 10 was pre installed but it was a really old build, pre 10586/TH2. I checked for updates and it immediately set about updating to last novembers 10586. However I am now confused as to whether I need to wait 10 days or 30 days for Windows update to offer it the new Anniversary update. I am totally happy to wait for Windows update to do its thing rather than use MCT etc, just curious about the timescales involved given MS has changed from 30 to 10 on the latest version

Hi Everybody,

I'm really in need of some help or advice with my laptop

Acer Aspire 5742
Intel i5-480M
Intel Graphics

It started when I needed to take the computer back to factory default with a fresh install. It was going back to Acer to have the charger point fixed (charger socket had become loose but still charged when it was held in).
I used the control panel interface to reinstall windows, all was going well until the laptop power died, I restarted the laptop and the screen displayed:

"setup is starting Services" a pop up box then appeared with

"the computer restarted unexpectedly or encounterd an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows, click "OK" to restart the computer and then restart installation."

I have searched around the net and found a few threads/guides but most require a repair disc or Installation disk. I have neither.
Is there any way of starting the install again? for example from Command Prompt?

Any advice is greatly appreciated
Thanks Aaron

Last night I turned off my computer normally. The only thing different was that it installed some updates before turning off. This morning when I turned it on, I noticed that it got stuck on the "Starting Windows" logo screen. I turned it off (forcing it) and turned it on again and asked me if I wanted to start normally or repair. When I clicked repair it got stuck on the loading bar thing. At first, the f8 button wouldn't work but after a few tries it did and I can't get in safe mode either, it gets stuck.

I gave up and since the computer is pretty much new so I don't have much installed on it, I decided to just reformat it but even in the disk it gets stuck. I downloaded a repair disc and it is stuck in the loading bar with the Microsoft Corportation below.

It was probably the updates so if I could somehow get it to unistall last night's updates (and maybe preventing it from updating again since I'm freaked out) it will get fixed maybe? The question is how :/
