I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Anyone aware with the solution, please help.

After I upgraded to latest windows 10 build (1151) ,I seem to have a problem of Chrome opening the first several requested web pages after computer comes out of "sleep" mode. I get the page that says cannot connect . After I hit retry it finds it . Sometimes the web pages don't load properly ie no pictures , just a listing or the picture color is not right. After a reload it works fine. After the first few pages of problems everything works fine again. It's like Windows or Chrome is having some delays accessing the requested pages when starting from a sleep mode. Any ideas? Tks

A:Windows 10 and chrome browser problem opening pages after sleep mode

That is why I dumped Chrome ages ago.
But lets try and help.
Uninstall it completely from your system.
If you want to still use it, then find the latest version.
See if that improves it.
If did does not why not try Edge and see if the trouble you are having improves, if not Chrome then some other problem.

I just installed a new HP monitor and a new crucial SSD with Windows 8 so those recent driver installs may be related

With my Windows 7 HDD, when I recover from sleep mode I'm given a BSOD with a message about intelppm.sys file and stop error 0x0000007E. I tried renaming the intelppm.sys file to intelppm.bak but it didn't seem to resolve the issue

My other recent installations involve Dropbox, nvidia driver updates, new itunes, firefox update and uplay.

If it's worth noting, my Windows 8 SSD installation has no problem with sleep mode. Though I must have the settings different because with W7 the sleep mode recovers from mouse and keyboard, the W8 only recovers if I hit the power button.

edit: ok the new gigabyte bios firmware has windows 8 support it seems, I upgraded and sleep mode seems to work fine now..

I just had the fan replaced, and now when I use F4 to put the laptop in sleep mode and then close the lid, it remains in sleep mode when I open the lid.  Same thing occurs when I close the lid (no F4) for sleep mode and then open the lid.  However, when I select Sleep on the Windows 7 Start Menu and close the lid, the laptop does resume when I open the lid. NOTES:- Before replacing the fan, I used F4 for sleep and resume, because when I close the lid I would sometimes find the fan running the next morning- BIOS is up-to-date- Keyboard and mouse are set to wake PC- Power Options Settings:   - Allow hybrid sleep set to OFF and Hibernate set to NEVER (As they always have been)   - USB Settings > Disabled USB selective suspend settings  (These were enabled) While this isn't a huge problem, I would like to have things working as before, preferably without having to go back to the Lenovo certified shop. Thank you in advance for your help. Jeff

I've had this problem intermittently on my laptop for the past 2 years however it has been occuring more often recently.

Basically sometimes when I click the sleep button on Windows 7, the screen fades to black as usual. However the fan keeps running (sounds like when it's on full load) and the power button light stays on endlessly. I always have to force shut it down and restart it.

What can be the issue?

A:Laptop freezes between entering sleep mode to being in sleep mode

Hi joseph10444.

Such a situation may occur when some driver (mostly the PnP device drivers depending on the ACPI configuration) fail to response within a stipulated time period during the power state change.

Let us see some data. Upload your MSINFO32.nfo file.
Click on the start button
Type "msinfo32" (without quotes) in the search bar of the start menu, click the resulting link. It will open the System Information window.
File>Save. In the "File Name" filed, put "MSINFO32" (without Quote), give the save location to desktop, and click the "save" button.
Give the time for processing, it will save a .nfo file on your desktop.
Zip it, and upload it following the instruction.
Upload the list of all the third party drivers Using NirSoft DriverView :
Download and execute Driverview
View > Hide Microsoft Drivers
Edit > Select all
File > Save Selected Items
In the Save dialog, Set the path to desktop, Put "Driverview" in the name field, and save.
Zip the .txt file and upload it.
Those files will give us a closer look to the issue.

Hello, I have been experimenting with Torrent for downloading movies, etc. . .
Yesterday night, when I tried to put my vista to sleep, the screen went black, but the computer was not in sleep the power light was still green (Usually goes orange when it goes to sleep,) and I couldn't wake it back up by pressing my power button.

Also, every time I turn on my computer, the internet will not connect straight away, I would have to get a new IP, reset the network router, etc. . .

I am currently using AVG Free anti-virus system.

Are my problems linked to using torrent?

What can I do about my problems?

We purchased an Inspiron 3250 computer about a year ago.  Recently we find that when the computer recovers from “sleep mode” we get a gray screen filled with tiny squares and the computer completely locks up.  When we restart, we get a blue screen: “Recovery    It looks like Windows didn’t load correctly.  If you’d like to restart and try again….etc.”  Our Windows version is Windows 10.0.15063 Build 15063.  We can sidestep the problem by preventing the computer from going into sleep mode, but we’d obviously prefer to solve the problem completely.  Thanks in advance for advice.

Am I right that you have an expectation that your PC will continue to process tasks while "asleep"?

Think of it this way, you are writing an assignment and fall asleep. How much do you get done on that assignment while asleep? The answer of course is nothing, as you are asleep.

Your PC is the same, in sleep mode (Standby or Hibernate) there is no active tasks possible, if there were it would have to wake in order to do them. The only difference to a full shutdown is that the devices remain initialised, but not active.

Sleep and Hibernate can be somewhat problematic on desktop hardware as well, its only really apparently designed for laptop hardware, reliability of Windows and applications can suffer badly in many cases where it's used, in my experience.

Your sidebyside errors are probably related to a Logitec cordless Mouse driver? Google has plenty on that, many of the same problems but you will need to sift through them to see if they have solved the driver issue.

I have windows vista.

When I put my computer in sleep mode, I "wake" it by clicking my mouse. This has worked fine for years. The last few times I clicked my mouse to wake my computer....it acts like its waking but then I get a gray screen. It's not black like when the computer is off, it's dark gray. There is a hair line of the actual screen at the top. So it's as if the computer did wake and the screen is up, but there is a gray screen covering over it.

Any suggestions on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated.

I'm running WinXP Pro on a full size computer (not a laptop) and have
started having a curious problem. When the screen saver goes on, after
my 10 minute set time, all seem well except that when I move the mouse
and the screen saver goes off, I'm at a screen that wants me to log on
as one of the accounts. It's like the computer went into sleep mode.

I went to the screen saver Screen Saver display screen and under
Monitor Power I changed all of the settings (Power schemes, Turn off
monitor, Turn off hard disk and System standby) to values and then
changed them back to Always On, Never turn monitor off, Never turn
hard disk off, and Never let system standby. and the hit Apply. That
little maneuver did no good.

If I turn the screen saver off, the computer never goes into this
sleep mode. I've looked in Tweakui and could not find any setting to
help me change this.

Any help on how to keep this sleep mode from coming on when the screen
save is used would be appreciated.

My laptop is about six months old, and ever since I bought it I have been having problems with sleep mode. When the problem occurs, the laptop screen turns black, but the power light remains on. After several minutes the computer will restart and I will receive a message that says something like, 'windows has experienced an unexpected shut down'. Then it tries to find the cause of the problem with no success. This used to happen only every once in a while, but now it seems to be happening more frequently. Is there a program that I'm running that might be interfering with sleep mode? I'm not sure if this problem ever occurs when trying to shut down the computer. I don't do that nearly as much.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I appreciate all replies!

thought it was the printer because I couldn't print so I tried to reinstall the drivers which was no help.
This led me to the Control Panel, Devices and PRINTERS where in the line called "Unspecified" there was
another icon in there for my printer. I right clicked on that printer icon, selected the troubleshoot

I had everything fixed but I was wrong. The next time I opened up the computer all of the warnings and
Devices & Printer icons came back. This time I know what to do, use the troubleshooter, but that's a temporary
fix. Could someone here guide me towards a permanent fix? Almost every time I let the computer sleep it dose

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, and I'm not sure where to post this new thread...

I just recently built my own computer, and I think that this may be a problem with Vista, but I'm not sure.

OK, my problem is that whenever I put the computer to sleep mode and move the mouse while it's getting into sleep mode, it'll either restart or kill the computer. When it kills the computer, the fans still run but the lights on the front go out. There is also no picture on the monitor. To turn off the computer, I have to force a shutdown by holding the power button for around 4 seconds. Then, when I try to turn on the computer again, the fans turn on, the hard drive runs, but still no lights on the front of the case nor picutre on the screen. I fixed it by clearing the RTC RAM on the motherboard. After doing that, the computer would boot up, but if I did sleep mode and moved the mouse, then the computer would die again, and I'd have to clear the RTC RAM again.

I'm wondering why this happens with sleep mode. I use Vista Home Premium 64-bit. Is there a solution to this problem or does anyone else have this problem?

Maybe you need to know this? I don't know if that helps.

Why is it that whenever I push the power button and bring my computer out of sleep mode, I can't open a web browser for like 5 minutes. I use firefox. Once the desktop comes up, I'll hit the internet button and it looks like firefox will try to open but its all white. Just like the "white out" of the old days when you had a really slow processor or memory. It takes several minutes to work like normal. After the computer has been up a while, I can close the browser and reopen it and its quick. It is also slow if I try to open any other program, just after a sleep mode. When I put the computer into sleep, I dont leave applications open to use memory.

I've found a few issues regarding sleep mode, but none that seemed to directly address my problem, so here goes:

In the last two weeks or so, I've noticed that when I close my laptop's lid, the computer doesn't go into sleep mode, but instead hangs with a blank screen, and is completely unresponsive when I try to wake it up. The only way to fix it is to hold the power button to get it to shut off. However, this only seems to happen when my wireless network card (internal) is switched OFF. Even then, it doesn't happen all the time (i.e. sometimes it successfully goes to sleep, and wakes up again when I open the lid). It hasn't been a problem at all when the network card is on.

This started happening in late April, when two things happened (and they both happened at about the same time). First was that Windows Update automatically downloaded and installed a hotfix (946776) related to the computer crashing when the network status is changing. For what it's worth, I had never experienced the problem that the hotfix was supposed to correct.

The other thing that happened was that I uninstalled McAfee and installed ZoneAlarm antivirus and firewall.

I haven't been able to reproduce the problem 100% of the time, so I haven't figured out what sequence of programs running causes the problem (though it seems that iTunes and/or Windows Media Player is usually running when it happens).

The first thing I tried was to use system restore and went back to before I installed zonealar... Read more

Try updating the BIOS and all drivers you can think of: NIC, audio, video, anti-virus, non-Windows firewall... anything that includes a driver.

These types of symptoms are almost impossible for an app to cause, but they're frequently caused by drivers which don't handle power state transitions the way they should.

I ran a search on Google and found this website's tutorial on fixing a Sleep mode problem, but unfortunately none of the steps helped.

My particular problem isn't that something wakes the computer back up (that problem was actually fixed using your methods), but rather that my screen goes black and my computer keeps running.

My previous computer used sleep mode fine, but I just got a new motherboard (Asus P5N-D), case, and processor (Intel Core 2 Quad), so it's no mystery why it doesn't work anymore, I just can't figure out how to restore the option.

I know it isn't a crucial feature of Vista, but I prefer using it over a complete Shut Down, and if you have any suggestions, I would really appreciate it.

So I see W7 has a feature called "Hybrid Sleep" where it supposedly will "allow me to return to work almost instantly" however, unless instantly is about 30 seconds, my W7 seems to be ignoring Hybrid Sleep and going into real Sleep.

With WinXP I had it set so that after 5 minutes my monitor would shut off and after 10 my user would log out. It looks as though this is no longer an option? At least I can't find it under power which is where I found it in WinXP. I would much rather like to return to my old setup where my computer never really turns off or sleeps at any point on its own. I just sort of want the screen to go black, and I want to be able to return to work almost instantly.

A:problem with sleep mode

Hello AlphaWhelp,

Hybrid mode is to have the computer go to sleep first, then after the time you set will go into hibernation. That is why it is taking a bit longer since your computer is resuming from hibernation and not sleep.

For you what you want, you would need to set your Power Plan settings to "Sleep" and turn off "Hybrid" and "Hibernate" like in the recommended "Sleep" settings in the tutorial below. Afterwards, the computer should wake up from sleep and be ready to go in a second or two.

A:Sleep mode problem

First, is your computer really going to sleep or in "prevent idling to sleep mode" or "away mode"?
If your system is really asleep the power button will flash on/off. Otherwise, the screen just shuts off, and enters away mode.
This is common in networked computers that are set to "share media". I had the sleep issue happen on all networked computers; desktop; and (2) notebooks. "allow the computer to sleep" setting must be enabled under the power plan(s).

Put your system to sleep and check the power button. If its not blinking its not in sleep mode, and you will have to adjust the settings under advanced power options for it to enter sleep mode.

If the power buton does blink, then check for devices that are allowed to "wake"

I have tried to adjust every possible configuration in the power settings but nothing has solved it.
I am now using Hibernate mode. It wakes from hibernation about 70% of the time.
I would very much like to be able to use sleep mode again.
Any suggestions?

I had no trouble putting the computer to sleep until yesterday.
Now it goes to sleep, but 30 seconds later would wake on its own ( mouse turned off)
I did a rollback to 2 days ago when the problem did not exist - same problem.
I checked all my settings as well as Device Mgr - Network adapter box to check "allow to turn off" is greyed out.
Box is also greyed out in Mouse properties.

I also tried to set Power button to put computer to sleep.
No difference.

I have no idea what has caused this unusual behavior

Any advice appreciated.

My machine is an Evesham 17" Laptop, Intel Dual core, 2GB RAM, Nvidia graphics, wireless conection to internet. Just plain standard really.

I have it configured to enter Sleep mode, rather than Shutdown, when I've finished for the day and this has always worked perfectly......until last night. I put it to sleep as usual, turned off external power and toddled off to bed. This morning when I came down I found it up and running with not much power left. I switched mains back on and was presented with a message that "Internet Explorer has stopped working." IE was definitely not running last night. As soon as I closed that box, another one appeared saying that Adobe Flash was ready to install an update - clicking OK enabled the update to be installed. Next Paint Shop Pro decided that it also wanted to install an update, and duly did so. I then shut the machine down completely and went off to work.

Booting the machine this evening was uneventful until I tried to view a video on the BBC website. I was then informed that I didn't have the latest version of Flashplayer and invited to download and install it. It would therefore appear that the previous update had actually reversed Flashplayer.

What I hope is that some kind person can tell me is how the machine wakes up from sleep mode all by itself? I've checked BIOS and there is nothing enabled there which would allow an automatic start from sleep. I've also checked my power setting in Control Panel wi... Read more

Hi beauparc,

If you wish to find out the reason for a wake from sleep mode,

Start a command prompt, (start menu - enter CMD into search bar and enter), and enter "powercfg -lastwake" without quotes the system should display the last item to cause a wake event.

Hope this helps

Hi there,
I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop and basically it sometimes has a problem coming out of Sleep Mode. I really can't figure out what causes the problem as it only happens on average, 10% of the time. Basically it always goes into Sleep Mode ok, but about 10% of the time when I lift the lid, it will appear to be coming out of Sleep Mode, but just doesn't get there, hard drive don't appear to spin up, screen remains off etc. The only way to sort it is a hard restart.

I've had the laptop for about 9 months and as far as I can be sure, its always had this problem, but can't be sure as I said.

Any ideas please?

I upgraded to W10 from 8.1 and now having issues with it going into sleep mode in about a min if I don't keep the mouse moving or typing. I updated the drivers that are on the Z70-80 driver page that Lenovo has listed for that model. Except cannot install the Advanced Config & Power Management ACPI dated 2/2/16 ver. driver. It just starts but does not fully execute to run that driver program and no errors of why. I've looked at microsoft forum of people who have similiar problems on other types of pc's. One issue is that the screen saver is set to 1 min after the upgrade on Win 10 but changed that to 20 min but did not fix my issue. No indication in the device manager that there is a driver problem. I've changed in settings for power & sleep to never but still goes into sleep mode in about a min.

Hi Zimmy5 ,
Welcome to the Community Forums.
Would the pc goes to sleep without any battery ? (to isolate battery trigger for sleep)
How about on safe mode? (to isolate from other services and applications)
You can try clean boot to see if any additional apps can be triggering sleep timer so early.
It may also be needing patch updates for windows 10 so try to finish all windows updates offered for Windows 10.
Since you have set power options to never assuring that hybrid mode disabled and hibernate on never , check also on sleep unattended set for longer hours would help.
Update us how it goes.
