Yoga 13 Shuts down when in sleep mode...

Q: Yoga 13 Shuts down when in sleep mode...

I've always used sleep mode at night and quite frankly most of the time instead of shutting down my yoga. I know thats not good after reading some here but wanted to share history in case that has something to do with problem.Typically at night or when leaving office or just going to be off computer for a while I'll close the lid (which is set for sleep mode) and when I return I open it up, enter my password and I'm right where i left off. I have multiple spreadsheets or power points open so it's easier than shutting those down every time or even at night. But since yesterday, when I open it back up, it has shut down and has to start up from "off" vs sleep. All things open have to be recovered (xls, docs, ppt, etc) and chrome says it has shut down unexpectedly and asks if I want to restore tabs, etc. What is causing this change and how can I troubleshoot it and fix it?Help much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

hi juniorgolf18,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Can you try checking under

Control Panel / Hardware and sound / Power Option
Click on change plan settings on your selected Power Plan
Click on change advanced settings

Now on this window look for Sleep and open it up.
Look for "Allow hybrid sleep"
Make sure that it is on and save changes

Check and let me know if that works.

Just got a brand new Yoga 710 w/ Win 10 Pro and the system just shuts down when put to sleep.Happens when:- I close the lid (even if "close lid" power option is set to sleep), or- I select the "Sleep" option from the Start [equivalent] menu, the system immediately shuts down (within seconds),- Leave the system idle for 5 min (what sleep timeout is set) And since it shuts down:- I lose any open document, applications running, etc. Also, on restart, Windows occasionally will also complain that it wasn't shutdown properly, starts to scan disk, etc. This is really BAD!- Pressing the mouse or keyboard doesn't do anything and only pressing the power button will get it working again (and I see the Lenovo BIOS logo, etc.).It feels like the OS is trying to go to sleep, but the laptop is shutting down instead. I tried calling Lenovo customer service but the response was really really unacceptable:- First tried to disable sleep completely and saying that that since this is a new machine so that should be okay.- I asked what about battery life if I don't use the laptop (say overnight) for a while -- response was I should shutdown the laptop. I checked the power option, tried disabling hibernate, disable fast boot, etc. and other suggestions from searching the forum but nothing worked.   Also checked BIOS settings but there's not much that can be changed (which is rather surprising).Drivers are BIOS are up-to-date. Any other ideas?  Any one else seeing this i... I've had this happen a few times and only when I least expect it.  I thought that perhaps it didn't like me disconnecting devices after shutdown but after several rounds of testing, I think the problem is closing the lid (which is set to sleep) but not always. Is anyone else finding that sometimes when the computer should sleep that it's shut down completely, without hibernating, thus resulting in a cold boot the next time it's started up? Each time it's happened, I've found the following event in the event log at the same time that I expected the computer to sleep, so I know that it's not a case of an attempt at hibernation that failed. Log Name:      SystemSource:        EventLogDate:          5/22/2017 5:11:59 PMEvent ID:      6008Task Category: NoneLevel:         ErrorKeywords:      ClassicUser:          N/AComputer:      FennelDescription:The previous system shutdown at 3:01:37 PM on ?5/?22/?2017 was unexpected.Event Xml:<Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event">  <System>    <Provider Name="EventLog" />    <EventID Qualifiers="32768">6008</EventID>    <Level>2</Level>... A new Windows 8 HP laptop in February 2013. Often when I place the computer in sleep mode, I come back and it has shut down, and I have to restart the computer. The computer knows it has done something it shouldn't have, and it gets reported to Microsoft. I had a whole lot less trouble with my old Vista laptop. Lots of issues with this Windows 8. Any ideas what is going on? Thanks for the birthday greetings Tech Support!

A:Shuts Down in Sleep Mode

. It isn't actually shutting down but hibernating
to stop that happening you need to alter the power plan advanced settings

this shows you how to get to power settings
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=c03383935

then select the current plan, select change plan settings, then on the next screen that opens selct change advanced power settings
you should, then get a pop up box
scroll down to sleep & press the little + beside it

press the + beside allow hybrid sleep & select no
then move on to hibernate after & set it to 0 ( it is probably set at either 60 or 180) and that means it hibernates after it has been in sleep mode for the specified time
press apply & then OK and exit out of other screens
Hopefully that should solve it for you

After a "Wake-up failure", how does the laptop get "re-booted" and running Windows-7?

Do you get any error message(s) booting up, and/or after Windows is up and running?

Hi all first time poster,
So I'm having a major problem that I can't seem to fix. When I close the lid of my laptop, put it into sleep mode, or put it into hibernation mode, the laptop basically shuts down. The power light flashes on and off, but when I reopen the lid or press the power button to turn it back on, the screen flashes grey and reboots.
What I have tried:
Changing all of the advanced power options
Resetting my laptop (to before the issue started occurring)
Restoring my laptop to factory settings
Redownloading windows 10
Disabling the UEFI (BIOS) setting that allows the computer to be turned off to save power
Updating the drivers that were suggested on the windows eight forums
Downloading the chipset driver from Asus
Downloading the ACHI Link Power Management and trying all the settings

What I've done in the command prompt:
sfc /scannow then Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
I also tried the chkdsk command but there were no problems found

When I started noticing the problem:
After I downloaded VMware's player and created a virtual computer with Ubuntu

I hope this description was detailed enough. As one could tell, I've tried quite a lot of different things to fix this issue but with no resolve. Thanks for the help in advance!

Hello.
My Inspiron N5110 laptop has a weird issue.
At very rare times, my laptop shuts down after I put it on sleep mode.
I know when it's happening because the power light doesn't flash.
When I turn it on again I receive the Windows message that has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.
As far as I remember it happened 4-5 times.
All of the times I only had Firefox (with lots of tabs) running and nothing else.
By the way, my laptop had other issues in the past including, problems in the fan, -and since the day I bought it-, it had speakers and hard disk problems.
I got these parts replaced and they seem to be running in diagnostics with no errors (except for the fan which still makes weird loud noises, might have to replace it again).
If this also helps, my laptop is always plugged in.
It's very important for me to get it fixed because I am a student and don't want to lose anything important.
Thank you in advance.

Hi...I just started experiencing this issue where I go to put the computer into sleep mode and the screen goes black and the computer is still running. Then, a blue screen pops up saying that my computer needs to shut down unexpectantly. It sometimes works where it does go into sleep mode but most of the time it will restart on it's own. Any ideas how I can avoid this and go back to putting the computer in sleep mode when I am finished with it?

Using windows 8.  Every time I shut the lid of my computer it goes into sleep mode. This is good, but after a while in sleep mode it either shuts down or does something that causes it to close all programs and require rebooting. How do i stop this from happening and just let it go in sleep mode forever?

A:Helix shuts down while in sleep mode

I have a very similar problem. If I shut the lid and leave it for a long time (say, overnight), the computer will not wake up when I open the lid the next morning. If I shut the lid and then open it back up wihtin a few minutes the comptuer wakes up normally. After sleeping overnight, the computer does seem turn itself on when I open th lid, as evidenced by an audible fan noise and a red illuminated dot over the 'i' in the thinkpad logo, but the screen does not turn on. I double checked my power settings in Windows, and it is set to go to sleep when the lid is closed. The only way to get it going again is to hold down the power button until it turns off, and then power back on. Any ideas?

I have our wireless router hooked up to my computer at home. When I shut down my computer, the router stays up and working fine, allowing our wireless laptops access to the internet. The ethernet light stays lit and everything is fine. However, when I put my computer in sleep mode - something I would prefer to do rather than shutting it down when I'm not using it - the ethernet light goes out and the laptops can't connect to the internet. It even says no network connection is available.

Does anyone know if there is something I can do? Change a setting in Vista or in the system BIOS ? Is it something to do with the router?

The router is pretty old - Actiontec (GT704WG) but we've never had any problems with it.

I'm running Vista Home Premium 64 bit on a custom built system with an E8500 @ 4.0 Ghz and 8 megs of RAM

Thanks for any help

Recently I've noticed that my laptop has been shutting itself down after I put it to sleep. Usually when I'm about to call it a night, I put it to sleep as well. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning I see that it's shut down so I have to turn it back on. Then I see a warning that it was shutdown improperly.

I have run memory and processor tests and neither have come up with any issues. My latest theory was that iTunes was causing the issue. I use an airport express router which allows me to use AirPlay to stream from iTunes to my stereo. I was under the impression that this could be the issue because I noticed a correlation, so I began quitting iTunes before I put the machine to sleep. This seemed to fix the issue but a similar issue has returned. Although this doesn't happen as frequently, sometimes when I put the system to sleep it takes a long time or just freezes up. Also sometimes after the delay it will sleep only for a few seconds before waking itself back up.

I have no idea what to check at this point. The last thing I did to it was upgrade it to an SSD in mid-December of 2011. Before that I upgraded the RAM in the summer of 2011 but that's it. It's pretty heavy (Alienware m15x) so it sits in my desk for the most part and I use my iPad instead during my classes.

If needed, I can upload any crash info as requested. The system specs are what I have listed as my configuration

A:Laptop shuts down randomly or freezes while in sleep mode

Shutdowns during sleep are usually blue screen crash related and specifically 0x9f. Try updating the airport express router drivers as they may be the culprit if they were in the past through iTunes. If they are already up to date, re-install them using the following procedure in case they are corrupted.

Click Device Manager from the list on the left
Find the device you are trying to uninstall by expanding the appropriate set of devices

A while ago I had a problem with a Computer running Windows 8 Pro x64 where it would wake up very early in the morning or various times at night. It wasn't nice since the computer is in my bedroom. Eventually, a Microsoft Support person disabled the Wake Timers but that didn't help. Finally, for no reason at all--maybe it was a Windows Update (don't know) but it stopped doing it.

Recently, the computer has started to wake up on its own while in Sleep Mode, and then shut down in Hibernation Mode approximately one minute later after it has been in Sleep Mode for a while, apparently more than an hour or so. During the time the computer turns itself on, nothing is displayed on the monitor screen.

I have attached two screenshots of the last recorded issue, one showing the General tab info and the other showing the Details tab info, for your reference.

What is causing this problem?

Thanks.

All my devices will stay connected to the bluetooth. This can be really annoying because when I need to use a bluetooth device it will connect to my laptop which is not in use before I can get it to connect with my phone or other device.  The other problem is my battery drains too fast when in sleep mode. With my other laptops you could hardly see the battery drain. And this one it drains like 10 percent a day in sleep mode. I am sure the bluetooth probems is mostly to blame.  Is there any way to turn this feature off? When I shut the lid and it goes to sleep, I want it to be fully asleep.

I have an issue with my Yoga 900 not reacting when putting it into sleep mode. I have tried chaning my sleep and wake up settings and the laptop is supposed to wake up upon use of the keyboard or mouse, but nothing happens. Also hitting the power button doesn't help. The only solution is a hard reset. This is particularly annoying when the computer goes into sleep automatically. Does anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a solution?

My 14" Yoga (non-pro) seems to jump out of sleep mode whenever I put it into sleep mode. This even happens when the Yoga has been folded up and put in by bag, giving a high chance of damaging the laptop or even causing other kinds of damage. Currently I'm working around it by putting it into Hibernate (which, I admit, is also pretty fast). But that's obviously not a nice workaround. Does anybody know how to fix this? I tried to find out what causes the event but the system logs are rather strange: I do get: The system has returned from a low power state.Sleep Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:12.012475900ZWake Time: ?2016?-?07?-?23T21:07:21.793067400ZWake Source: Power Button But I certainly haven't touched the power button, and it seem to be working fine otherwise.

Occasionally during Sleep Mode, the laptop restarts for unknown reasons. But I just noticed that it has restarted when I log in.I'm not sure whether this is caused by background updates of Windows 10, because I don't see a screen with updating or anything. AFAIK, the random restarts happened when the laptop ran on battery mode, but maybe that happens by accident.I already configured in Energy Manager that the hard disk never gets turned off, but that apparently doesn't work. What suggestions do you have to solve this random restart issue, without disabling sleep mode after X minutes?

A:Yoga 910 sometimes restarts during sleep mode

Windows will not update while in sleep mode, since your system is effectively turned off, so that is not the issue. Normally when you system is in sleep mode for a while, it eventually goes into hibernation (writes the data from memory to the hard drive) and shuts off.   This is to preserve the battery, and to prevent data loss should the battery die. The data is written to a hidden file on the root of the C:\ drive called hiberfil.sys, which is usually pretty large, about 6GB or so, and sometimes that file gets corrupted, and cannot be read when you try to resume, and thus the laptop reboot since it has no saved state from which to resume.     To fix that problem, you need to disable hibernation, and then re-enable it by following the steps below.. Disable/re-enable hibernationRight Click on Start and select Command Prompt (Admin)In the Command Prompt (Admin) window, type:  powercfg.exe /h offIt will take a minute or so for the command prompt to return as it deletes the existing hiberfil.sys fileOnce the prompt returns, type: powercfg.exe /h onThe prompt should almost immediately return, and the new hiberfil.sys file has been created.Close the Command Prompt (Admin) window Hope that helps. Cheers,

Hi,My Yoga 910 is set to fall into sleep mode after a few minutes or when closing the lid - it doesn't in both.I closed every open window, exit every program on the taskbar corner, unplugged the mouse and all USB ports, got into airplane mode and canceled battery saving mode and yet it does not work. The laptop was formatted and the problem did not go away. You can see in the pictures what's still on.Thanks.

Last night i manually put my computer in sleep mode and went to bed. When i woke up i came down and my computer was rebooting itself then shutting itself down as soon as it rebooted. I stood there and watched it do this about 4 times, all 4 times my screen was black.

I then shut it down manual with the power button then rebooted it and it took me to a "Windows has improperly shut itself down" "Would you like to reboot in normal mode screen? I clicked yes and it took me to windows and it is fine now. What happened and how can i prevent this in the future?

A:Computer crashed in sleep mode then reboots/shuts down unlimited times

update: i just called my computer manufacturer and he said because my GPU card is factory overclocked the lower power state of sleep mode might be the cause of what is crashing it and causing the power cycle to constantly reboot

Please help me to find a solution. I have a problem with SSD perfomance after wake up from sleep mode. The system is almost freezed for 3-5 minuts with SSD access time more then 1000 ms (usualy it is 3-5 mks) , and very low SSD speed, like 50-100 kb/sec (usualy it is 200-300 mb/sec. And then it is ok again. I can't understand, what is going on and how to find a solution? Did not find any similar on the forum or google.

Hi, I recently purchased a Thinkpad X1 Yoga, shipped on May 16, 2016.  I have an issue:     When I use the left side USB port (the one on the side of the power charging port) to charge my old Ipod and the laptop goes to sleep. The laptop does not wake up when opening the lid or pressing on the power button. However, as soon as I disconnect my Ipod from the USB port. The laptop immediately wakes up but unable to login using the fingerprint reader. Specific steps to reproduce: 1) Plug x1 yoga power cord to the laptop 2) Plug Ipod to the left side USB port. Make sure Ipod has no earphones plugged in. 3) Put the laptop in sleep mode 4) Close the lid of the laptop 5) Wait until iPod is no longer being charged by the laptop (a few seconds after the laptop goes to sleep) 6) Wait until iPod automically turns off on its own (it takes 15 to 30 mins, not sure exactly how much time.) 7) Open the laptop lid and notice that the laptop is not waking up. 8) Press on the "power" button on the right side of the X1 Yoga. Notice that the laptop does not wake up. 9) Remove the iPod from the USB port on the left side of the X1 Yoga.        Notice that the laptop is now able to wake up.        Also notice that the finger print reader is not responding. Cannot login using the fingerprint reader. Seems like a driver issue. Lenovo please confirm! ThanksWilly

Hi Hello Just got my new X1 yoga, but even after reading the manual, couldn't figure out how to resume it from sleep? Getting it to sleep easy, lid down, windows menu or F4. When I came back to it, the screen is off, the fingerprit scanner has a light, but I cannot manage to get it back on unless i press 1 or 2 times on the power button, and then it resumes. Any other ways to do it?? I'm used just to press any key/mouse, to get it to resume, my old surface was like that. Sorry for the basic question, but the power button sometime takes as long time, as I think it's restarting the computer. Thank you

A:ThinkPad X1 Yoga how to resume from sleep mode??

Pressing the Fn key might do it if it has only been in sleep mode for a while, but after a period of time set under the power plan setting, it will go into hibernation mode  to save the battery power (it basically writes the system state to a file called hiberfil.sys, and powers off), and in that case you have to press the power button to resume. This might help too even though it does not explicitly mention your model.https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht075624 Take Care,

Hi everyone, I do have a strange issue with a Thinkpad S1 Yoga: after a fresh (clean) install of Win10, I have installed the relevant drivers - including the Lenovo power mgmt driver. So far, everything is ok. However, the device does not enter sleep mode when I am closing the lid. It seems that it rather changes to tablet mode.  After x minutes of inactivity, the devices enters sleep mode - also if I manually select sleep mode via Startmenu. So I think this is related to the detection of the lid function. Any chance to correct this? thanks. best, axeon

Hi guys,  Got my yoga last month and it's been okay, bit slow to load from sleep but it's done the job. Only thing is its now in a permanent sleep mode. I've tried re-charging it from zero battery, hard reset, putting the lid up and down, combining that with hard reset too. what to do? Do I have to send it somewhere? Obviously I don't want to open the thing up, I'd rather leave that to a professional. cheers.

Has anyone else had problems with the X1 Yoga falling asleep? About 1 out of 6/7 times the X1 Yoga will not enter sleep mode - pretty random when it happens. When I select sleep from the Windows 10 menu or close the lid (so this happens both with the OneLink+ dock and when using standalone as a notebook) the computer seems to go to sleep, the displays turn off, USB devices turn off, but then the small led just stays on. It never really enters sleep mode. And there is no way to wake the computer up, just press the power button for 4 seconds and turn it off. Which practically means cold booting again. Usually the last item in the event log is a Kernel-Power event announcing the system is entering sleep mode. Today there are two more events after that, but then just nothing. (this is from the System event log). Really bothersome issue, probably related to Windows and/or firmware/BIOS. There does not seem to be any connection to what the computer is doing. It happens when no programs are running, and also when lots of programs are open. It happens as the fan is on (because the computer is doing something heavy) and both when the fan is off (the computer is idling). It happens while connected to the dock and also while not being connected to the dock. There does not seem to be any pattern to it. Anyone else experiencing something similar? Most drivers are updated to latest version, and BIOS is also latest.

Hi. I've updated all the drivers, per technical support's advice. I'm losing 1-5% per day when shut down and 5-10% per day in sleep mode on my new Yoga 920. Is anyone else having this problem? Do tech support read these forums?

Hi amote,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Battery draiining reports are also visible on other OEM forums as well and most likely related to similar features offered by Windows 10. Such also applies to different model of different macnufacturers as well.

Disabling fast start as discussed here would be a good step to try first.

Our forums are peer to peer community discussion group but Tech support (although maybe limited to their own scope of support) also utilizes the discussions we have for investigation of issues.

Update us how things go.

Regards
