Can you control video card fan speed???

Q: Can you control video card fan speed???

I have a new Radeon 8500 I installed in a computer Im building to sell. It works great but the fan is ungodly loud. Its louder than the case fan. I tried the fan from another 8500 and its the same. I was wondering if there was a program to adjust the fan speed. There are no mounting hole in this card so I cant replace the fan.

Preferred Solution: Can you control video card fan speed???

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Im looking into getting a new video card for gaming. i dont know the specs of the one i have now (im at work) but i do know that it is 64 MB. So an upgrade is something that should be done. anyways, the mother board has a BUS speed of 266 MHz, that i think is low by todays standards. will this have an effect on the ability of a good video card to perform.

ill look to the low budget video card thread for suggestions on which card to get. however, i am willing to pay more than 100 for a good new card if its worth it.

I recently got a new video card and replaced my old radeon 4890 with a geforce gtx 560. With the old setup, I was also running a geforce 8800 gts in a hybrid physx layout. I decided to keep the 8800 gts and have it handle physx for this config as well. When I got the new card in the first thing I noticed was that the windows experience index ratings, after being refreshed, were exactly the same (7.5 for gaming and desktop graphics).

I ran some benchmark tests with batman: arkham asylum and GTA 4 and got similar numbers to the old card. I then looked at GPU-Z and noticed that the pixel fillrate was showing up much lower than other 560s. Other reference cards do about 26 GPixels, mine does 11. I am on PCI-E 1.1, not 2.0, but I was under the impression that would not be a limiting factor for this card.
Does anyone have any thoughts/advice on this?

Hi everyone,

I've had my ATI Radeon 2900PRO video card for...about 2 years now. Just today, I noticed that the fan was spinning much faster than normal and, in turn, was very loud. Gradually, as I stayed on the computer longer, the fan slowed down and returned to normal.

When letting the computer idle while watching TV, I noticed that the fan started acting up again, so I turned the computer off. I took a nap, and then got back up and noticed the fan was still going very rapidly.

HWMonitor is putting the core of the video card at 114F (46C). I can't check the speed of the video card fan through the program though.

Can you monitor the PCB tempreture ?
Could be that the Vram /VRM are getting hot while the heatpipe is effectively cooling the GPU.
Any dust buildup inside the shroud- I presume the cards running the stock red translucent acrylic blower fan shroud.
When you say it's spinning faster do you mean that it's in 3D mode all the time ?

Does the video card speed (fps) mean anything in business apps including WinXP boot up, shut down, Quickbooks, Word Processing, web browsing, etc. What about passive cooling (no fan) vs. fan cooling and separate PS hookups. AND what is Crossfire?

A:Video card speed (fps)

forgot to ask in my previous question: I have 2 old PCS with embedded graphics, one with Intel and the other with ATI 200 express and each has a PCI Express upgrade slot. I realize that a separate Video card will increase the available memory by not requiring any shared memory, but will there be any other gain as before in mainly business apps.

Hi, I am wondering how does the GPU clock speed affect performance? I have read about how the amount of RAM as well as memory bandwidth affects performance but how is all that related to the GPU's clock speed, if at all. In essence I would like to know if a superclocked GTX 460 can outperform a GTX 470. Here are the data for comparison:
Superclocked GTX 460:
- Engine clock: 763 Mhz
- 1024 MB GDDR5
- Memory clock: 3800 MHz effective
- Memory interface: 256 bit
- Memory bandwidth: 121.6 GB/s

GTX 470:
- Engine clock: 607 MHz
- 1280 MB GDDR5
- Memory clock: 3348 MHz effective
- Memory interface: 320 bit
- Memory bandwidth: 133.9 GB/s

I have a VGA Silencer that used to be silent but lately the fan runs at almost full speed all the time but the core idles at 48*c. Is fan speed controlled by the driver or the card? This seems to have started since the last video driver update. Thanks

A:What controls video card san speed?

I think the driver does control the fan speed, at least on some cards. Before I had the drivers installed on my 7800gt, it ran with the fan at 100%(loud), but once the driver is installed it runs at only ~45%. You can use the newest version of rivatuner to change your graphics card's 2d and 3d fan speeds.

Ok, so I am planning a build, and have already started buying parts, but after some consideration, I'm thinking I might be overcompensating on my video card, here is my build:

8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) SDRAM
ASUS P7P55D-E LX Motherboard
GeForce GTX 560 Ti
Intel i5-760 2.8GHz Quad-core (Note, I plan on OC this to 3.6, some have gone up to 4.0)
650W (4 x +12V) PSU
6Gb/s 7200 RPM HD

So, would it be smarter to downgrade to a GTX 460 or 470, or stick with the 560?

Now the boards AGP bus is 2x/4x, I have installed an old GeForce4 MX440 graphics card but it absolutely flat out refuses to run at anything above 2x.

Hello All:

I have many questions and concerns on fixing my Acer Laptop 5570Z.

The problem I'm having isn't really a problem, its more of trying to get the most out of my laptop.

I'm running vista business with a Genuine Intel(R) processor running at 1.73GHz. I would like to reach 2.00GHz but not completely necessary. My Video card is a Mobile Intel(R) 945 Express Chipset Family. I have 2GBs of RAM, and a 120GB hard drive with an external hard Drive that is another 120GBs.
Everything works beautifully
I just got a game for xmas that requires my computer to be at least a 3.0 experience level. I'm not a big game player, but i think it would be nice to play when i have time. And i have an experience level of 3.0. This is not the first time that ive run across this problem trying to run a program.

Ive talked to Acer and they are working on finding me a number so i can possibly change my processor. I've toyed with the thought of over clocking my CPU, but very worried about that.

The error code that i get is insufficient resources

Is it possible that the reason the game wont work on my laptop is because that my video card is worthless? When i look in my device manager i go to the that has sound, video and game controller there is only and audio driver there. Nothing else.

Is there anything that i can do to get this game to work? Anything that i can do soup my computer up to make these kind of programs run?

I am looking at 2 video cards, X1950PRO and 7950GT.

The 1950 has higher core clock and memory clock speeds, but the 7950 has twice the amount of pixel pipelines. Which of these two specs are more important towards the performace of the card? I guess my main objective is that I am trying to find the best card for gaming on AGP at the moment. I am more drawn to the 1950 because of the fan that exhausts out through the back of the computer and the high clock speeds, but I wasnt sure if it would get owned by the 7950.

Video Card - ASUS 9800gt Ultimate It's a dual slot video card with a better cooling system. Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121266 The cooling system is the same as the "EVGA Akimbo Cooler."

Whenever I start up a game the fan speed increases and the fan gets very loud (can hear it in more than 1 room in house). Once I exit the game, the fan after a minute or so becomes quiet again.

I used ASUS Smartdoctor to manually adjust fan speed and automatically adjust fan speed and both didn't work. Manual worked until I started a game, and fan went to becoming loud again.

Uninstalled Smartdoctor, installed Nvidia nTune, results were same as above.

I don't know why the manual fan speed setting doesn't keep a consistent noise level. No matter what I do the fan ends up reaching the same loud noise level. If I can't stop the fan speed from increasing, what would be a generally good % to set it at to reduce noise?

A:Fan Loud on Video Card - Manual Fan Speed Doesn't work

Edit: I used the Nvidia Physx Cloth Demo while using RivaTuner to view gpu temps. Right when I started the demo, the fan speed increased. While doing the demo, the gpu temp was at a constant 48 degrees celcius.

Under hardware in CCC
Primary adapter: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Disabled adapter: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series

Drivers are up to date.

I installed the 7800 as a replacement for an older (second) graphics card.
I hooked them together using a Crossfire bridge.
Still, the device remains disabled. I checked in Device Manager and it says that both units are enabled.

Also, there was a related downloads on the website called 'GVFLASH_GV-R785OC-2GD.exe'
I think it's called a BIOS Flash. I clicked start flash and then clicked on my second card without changing any settings or saving/accepting any changes. My screen went a little dysfunctional but I restarted in safe mode, disabled the second card and restarted. Then I turned the second card back on. Everything is working normally since then. Could my system have sustained any damage from this mishap?

A:Catalyst Control Center shows second video card as 'Disabled Adapter'

Nope, i wouldn't think so.

You could always stress test your system just to be sure, using tools like IntelBurnTest for your CPU, Furmark for your graphics card and Memtest86 for your RAM sticks.

CPU - Stress Test Using IntelBurnTest

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

EDIT:- Although Windows 7 supports the installation of 2 or more discrete graphics cards of similar or different brands, why would you want to crossfire those two (6900 and 7800 series) cards in the 1st place? CrossfireX wouldn't work with different generations of cards AFAIK.

Hi all,

The Analog to DV device requires a 1 GHz processor. Mine is 498 MHz.

Regarding the speed, will the device work only slowly or not at all?

A:Solved: Video capture device speed vs. processor speed

It is not a matter of slow or not at all. It is most likely a matter of dropped frames. If you have a cheaper video capture card [one without hardware decoding] it will probably work however you will not like the result.

Video editing / encoding is cpu intensive. I would hate to think how long it would take to encode the video file after you capture it [with that cpu]

To give you some idea, it takes me about 15 min to encode approx 1hr of video with an intel dual core cpu. With yours it will be hours.

Hello all,i recently bought a new PSU and so far it seems to do the job quite well, however when i run certain more demanding games like The Witcher 3 and the PSU itself goes into high load, the fan makes quite a lot of noise.

Most reviews i saw online about the PSU seem to say it's not loud at all,and granted it's not loud while in idle. The question is, is it possible to somewhow lower the PSU fan speed ? The sound it makes is similar to a cheap office fan, however as i said, while in idle it's dead silent.

PSU : seasonic M12II-620 EVO Edition

PC specs :

- FX 8350
- G1 Gigabyte 1070
- 1 x HDD
- 990xa-ud3 MB
- 16 gb ram hyperx savage
- 4 x case fans

A:PSU Fan Speed control ?

It should not make the excessive noise you describe
Indeed even with the fan running it should be very quiet as it is a fluid type fan bearing, far quieter than a simple sleeve bearing as found on cheaper PSU`s or indeed quieter than a standard ball bearing

Are you sure you have it mounted correctly

I will check the base requirements of your system on the info I have and post back. If you have bought the minimum PSU wattage then you should not have done so
For instance minimum system requirements 600 watt always buy next up eg 700/750 watt

Although the PSU meets the based requirements of the system 125watt CPU and 150 watt graphics, the recommended psu for the card being 500 watt that of course does not take account of other components - hard drives etc OR indeed OC

See this
Seasonic recommend it for office use and causal gaming

Boohoo, no specs. In any case, a BIOS update may take care of it. I had a tornado going on my last board but a quick check and a BIOS update fixed it. There's usually fan control in the BIOS as well. Some motherboard manufacturers provide utilities that will allow fan and temp changes and/or alarm settings. System specs would go a long way in helping to provide specifics.

To expand that, I have a Security DVR setup that has mouse support but no keyboard support and all control has to be done with the mouse. Unfortunately, the mouse is way to fast for me and with the embedded firmware, no way to slow it.

Curious if they make a mouse that has a built in physical adjustment for the speed, or some kind of inline control to put between the mouse and USB port that could do this.

Bought used M58-7360. Fan never speeds up. Stays around 25% I'd guess. I was transcoding video in plex and cpu usage was at 100% and cpu temp was at 170 degrees F and rising. I pulled a wire attached to the "thermal" pin on the front of the mobo to get fan to speed up and cooled the cpu down. After researching, apparently the only way to control the fan speed is the "quiet technology" setting under the ME selection in the Intel AMT software that you access by pressing ctrl+p at boot. I got to the area where it should be listed and it isn't there. It isn't in the normal bios. I installed speedfan program but it doesn't "see" the fan. I've also tried resetting cmos. Please help!

which the other two are based on. RT may not work as it hasn't been updated in a while, and may have problems it you are using an unsupported driver.

Is there any way to control the fan speeds on the system? I checked the bios but since my fans arn't stock (upgraded) they dont appear. No Vista option for the fan speeds either. I have downloaded various programs, SpeedFan ect, but none seem to make my runs run at 100% Its always ranging from 50% to 60%.

Also, are there any good programs to overclock the CPU? I'm having alot of trouble with my MSI Neo P45 motherboard. I've got the right components and all, but it wont let me overclock my QX6700 past 2.8 when it was 2.66. I want to at least get it to 3.44ghz.

A:Fan Speed Control and Overclocking

Not sure what's going on with your fans are you sure they are supposed to run at 100% ? - are the correct options enabled in the Bios - worth checking the manual or get it from your mobo's website - also see if they have an updated Bios available.

CPUID has oc'ing functions - it warns you it's at your own risk, of course - they also do HWMonitor which should help you see what's going on with your fans and temps.

Hope this does the trick

I've got 8.1 on a Dell Inspirion 5738 laptop, I have a generic usb mouse attached. My problem is the mouse pointer slowly starts speeding up until it gets so fast I have no accuracy. I mean I move my pinky and the cursor moves from one side of the 17" screen to the other. I go in Control Panel>Mouse>Pointer Options> and set the speed to a slower speed. At this point I only have one more notch to go down, and it's still a little faster than I want it. How do I control the speed, you know, how do I keep it from speeding up? Is there a way to keep it a set speed other than the above mentioned procedure?
