Preferred Solution: using internet (flicking pages)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello angieb and welcome.

Does your lappy have touch screen? If so, have you cleaned it? Sometimes my phone does this.

If it's not that, is it a touch pad? Settings there ok?

Hi guys ( and girls )

I have an Acer Asspire 5332 running Vista.

A month or so ago the CD/DVD rom stopped working. Device Manager states it is unable to start and updating driver/uninstalling device etc does nothing either, other than recognise the drive as "standard cd rom" whereas it is actually a dvd rewriter. Acer tech support say that windows should pick up the driver automatically and cannot understand what the problem is. They do not provde a driver for the cd/dvd unit.

Then, in the last 2 weeks, certain web pages have failed to open, namely Hotmail and Facebook. All I get is a blank page with no error message Also videos on all sites intermittently work and don't work, saying I need to install Javascript which I already have! I have done all the usual checks and fixes ( internet options / javascript uninstall reinstall etc, as well as un-installing internet explorer itself.

Using another browser ( Safari ) opens up all pages including Hotmail and Facebook fine, but I still get the issue with the videos.

Does this sound like a virus? I have run Avast scan, and Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner. I am posting a "Hijack this log" for any braniancs to look over. Not sure if it is one problem, or several but doing my head in !!!

thanks in advance,
Rob

I suppose the title says it all, my computer has some sort of infection where every search in google in both firefox and internet explorer redirect the searches to random pages. Additionally, typing in certain addresses simply won't load where I know the page should work, such as certain links on microsoft.com. Furthermore, I have enabled Automatic Updates and it tells me that it is not enabled even though it clearly is in the settings and going to the update page through internet explorer simply does not work. I have read through various other forums here at bleepingcomputer.com and followed their instructions but nothing has fixed the problem so I figured I'd post as well and start fresh. A huge thanks in advance to whomever is able to help me out. So, where do I begin?

Good Day
I have a View Sonic G90f 19in monitor and is about 8 or 9 yeasrs old.
I have a Nvidia 8800GTS that is about 2 years old.
Lately I have been having problems with the monitor turning Off and then back On some times once in a while and sometime continuously.really no pattern to when it flicks on and off.
The Drivers are up to date for the V card.
I checked all the connections and everythings seems OK but still problem exist.
Settings are at 1280 x 1024 75 HTz 32 bit color.
I will open the cover and jiggle the V card but not sure if this would do anything.
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
thanks

A:Monitor flicking On and Off

If the problem only started recently and the monitor is 9 years old, it's likely it's dying. The only to know for sure is to swap in another monitor and see if it does the same thing.

I'm at my mum's house and I've decided to try out MapleStory on her old laggy computer. She recently updated her internet, but it still runs terribly slow.
When I download MapleStory (client on the nexon website), everything downloads perfectly fine and within 2 hours, it'll be finished. Installing it takes time, but it ends up installing everything perfectly fine (including the finishing bits when you run the game).
It runs fine and I can log in and select a server and channel, but the moment it goes to the 'character selection' screen, the whole game starts flicking around and it makes it impossible to click 'back'.
If I select a server with no characters, the images stay fine, but if I go to create a character, the images begin to flick again. (Oblviously has something to do with the characters...but what)?
MapleStory doesn't close or anything, but I can't exit it. I can, but only by the task manager. Just want to know what's going on and if anyone knows how, how to fix the problem.
Help please... D:
(I'm kinda dumb with computers, so anything you need to know about this one, ask me and I'll put it up...don't wanna put everything up and make myself look even stupider).

i got a new laptop a month or so ago, but since using it the screen is doing my head in. it keeps flicking from filling the whole screen to having a black bar about 1 or 2 inches wide on either side and everything on the screen then fills only that area, not even the cursor can go in the black sides.

my tabs on google crome also get smaller, for example, the twitter tab when the screen is big will say twitter/home with a little gap after and when it is small only twitter/ho will fit. it happens constantly no matter if i'm touching the laptop or not. the screen will go back then swap size. however, if i'm typing it will carry on during the balck screen that's on for like half a second, but the cursor will go back to being in the middle. sometimes it can be like 15 mins between size changes, but sometimes it like happens about 10 times within 30 seconds.

i checked the screen resolution but when i change that the font just gets bigger, and thats not the problem.i get a message each time it changes saying...

"optimal resolution notification. this is not the optimal screen resolution for the clone dispaly configuration. the optimal resolution is 800 x 600. click this notification for more information" but when i change it to this only the font size changes.

My monitor is just spazzing out, and I have no idea why. In fact I know it's not the monitor that's the problem because I switched my tower with my brother's tower to see what would happen (using the same monitor), and it works perfectly fine.

Just so you guys have some background...

My computer decided to crash at one point whilst I was playing music and using MSN messenger, not even letting me bring up task manager using ctrl+alt+delete. I had to manually restart the computer, but when the startup screen came up it had a really strange graphics issue where there were sketchy lines running through the screen, and when the DOS-looking screen came up (i.e. when checking if there's anything in the CD drive) all the characters were jumbled and scattered. What's worse, Windows didn't even start up...the screen just stayed blank after the Windows load screen. I attempted Safe Mode and the same thing occurred, so I'm guessing it is a hardware issue?

Just to be sure I tried putting my computer through system recovery with the disk that was provided with the computer, and surprisingly it did take me to Windows...the part where it starts checking for hardware drivers and goes through all the stuff that it does when you recover the system...however when it said it had to test the keyboard and mouse, and the screen may flicker for a few seconds my monitor started off with its very own issue. I waited at least 10 minutes, and it didn't stop.

Hi,This is kuiyoung. I had service few month. I forgot when it was. That time your technician came to office and changed motherboard. But when Im using it, suddenly it starts flicking and get error message that pc went to wrong. It's been two weeks. Strongly I think this one has problem and I don't wanna repair anymore. Because as you can see, I requested several times to repair this notebook. I'm really sick of it. I really don't think this one has virus. Thus I don't wanna install any program to wasting my time. I hope that you understand my situation. Thus I wanna refund or change new one. If you refund I would be more happier than change new one happy. Because after changing new one, same problem, I won't call you guys again. I will definitely buy other brand. It was my first time to buy Dell laptop. Really disappointed. I hope other people won't make same problem like me. I used to use other brand and never had problem.

A:XPS15-9550, screen flicking

Per Dell policy;* A refund is only possible if requested inside the FIRST 30 days from the original invoice date.* Any system exchange after the first 30 day will be a refurbished, not new.At this point, all we can do on this Forum is troubleshoot the flicker issue. If we diagnose that hardware is at fault, you would then contact Technical Support to arrange either parts replacement or refurbished system exchange.* Reinstall our Intel HD graphics driver* Restart the laptop when finished* Reinstall our Nvidia GTX 960M graphics driver* Restart the laptop when finished and retest

I have a 4 year old Compac CQ61-410US Notebook. The flicking problem happens in Chrome and Internet Explorer and if I play the games that came with the computer. When I hit enter, space bar and other things it will stop for a while but then it is back. Interesting note it has not done it once since I have been on this site!
The noise is new  and it make me very nervous. No sound should be coming from this thing insides.  Well maybe a little but I do not want to hear it running this loud. Is my hard drive about to die?
On a personal note I am as old as dirt and every thing I buy I have to think will I live to use it. Should I just go and have everything downloaded to a new computer or is this pain something I can take of? I have had some other problems and have been able to fix it with help from this fabulous site
Thank You

A:Flicking on screen and noise in my laptop

First of all, welcome to BC. See, it's a great site, your problem has gone away already !

On a more serious note, what sort of noise is it ?  Sort of a fan whirring noise, or is there an element of click to it ?  There are three things I would do as a precaution / check.

First off, back up my data - work, photos, music, that sort of stuff. Depending on how much you have, you can use anything from a USB stick to an external USB hard drive. But back it up, just in case you do have a hard drive problem.

Secondly, run chkdsk /r on you hard drive. You do this by opening the Command prompt which you will find at 'Start / Programs / Accessories'. RIGHT click on 'Command prompt' and select 'Run as administrator' in the drop-down box that appears. This will produce a black window with white text. Just type 'chkdsk /r' (Note - there is a space between 'chkdsk' and '/r') and press enter. You will then get a message saying it cannot run, do you wish to run at next boot Y / N. Type 'Y' (= Yes) and press enter, then reboot your computer. Chkdsk will run when it starts up.

Dependiing on the size of your hard drive and the speed of your processor, this may well take upwards of an hour, don't turn your computer off until it has finished. It will then tell you if there are any faulty sectors on your hard drive.

Thirdly I would download, install and run a little program called 'Speccy', you can get it here :

Speccy

Hello

I just purchased 2 new hard drives and a new copy of Windows 10 for my desk top set up. I removed my old hard drives and put the new ones in with the intention of installing the operating system. However, when I start up my new system my monitor only displays picture for a couple of minutes before it goes blank and flicks between HDMI and Analog not displaying any picture.

What I have tried:

Using a different brand monitor with a different socket into my graphics card.

Using a different graphics card.

Using different ports for my graphics card in the board.

Removing and cleaning graphics card and RAM.

I even got desperate and changed my system back to what I used a few days ago and my monitor still plays up.

Does anyone have any advice on how to get my picture back?

Remove any 3rd party codecs you have installed, then install Shark007's codec pack:

Dear all,

I just recently installed Windows 7 Home Premium x64 and my relevant drivers for Dell.
All was working fine until these problems occured.

1) At the taskbar, if there are more than one tab (for instance Windows folder) we can usually click it and select the tab we wish to go to. But for my case, the "Tab Screen" simply disappears after I click it once, so I can't choose the folder I wish to go.

2) For any browsers (windows browser, chrome, internet explorer, more) whenever I press the back button it simply reverts back to the page I was at (sort of like someone pressed forward the moment I press back).

Hope to receive help.
If any specifications are needed it'd be much appreciated if you can tell me how to give you guys the logs.

Cheers,

Not even my older desktop does this..

I uploaded a video using tinypic so please take your time to examine my computer's boot up (1:30) long.

Hello all

Any advice please or where to go for assistance.

This is A Dell XPS 8930 - with windows 10 (i am pretty sure it is windows 10 anyhow!!)

Just had a frustrating few hours - earlier today I loaded my Epson scan software (V500 photo scanner) and did some scans. Saving as 48 bit tiffs to the desktop.
Few hrs later all scans done and saved into the folder - i come to open one up (double click) and it does nothing and then the folder shuts - try again and the same thing.
I then tried opening one of the files from Photoshop and it pointed to the file then photoshop crashed (closed)!!?
Anyhow left it a while - did something else. Came back and tried opening a tiff form the folder and it just continually flashed the folder on the screen then off , on off.... whilst it is doing this I cant do anything else.
Shut the machine down via task manager, rebooted and it booted up only for the desktop to be doing this constant flash on and off routine...
Repeated this a few times.... same problem
Tried it in safe mode - same thing
Did a system restore - hoping it was somersetting form the Epson scanner install...... still the same

Now it wont even boot onto the start up screens..... ?????

Any advice, help or assistance would be greatly received!!!!

Thanks
Gav

This laptop has not been dropped and is only six months or so old.  My other daughter has the same device with the same anti virus and has no issues with it.Please help.

What resolution do you have your video adapter set at. So web pages are set at 800X600 dpi and you will have a white space on either side of the page, if you run higher than that (1024X768 dpi for example).

Hello

When I first turn on my computer, my firefox can access any web page. It's all good. Then, after a few more attempts at those sites, there is that awful message "unable to connect" and then gives three possible reasons. It's the generic error message.

Some of the sites that I can't access are, for example, espn.com or vitalsecurity.org. When I try to go to these sites, that green status bar light on the bottom right corner goes half way, and then proceeds to give me the error message.

Another problem is that I get a persistent error message "cannot load dialog error 623: the system could not find the phone book entry for this connection" even when I can get to some other websites. I then hit esc, and then the page finishes loading. I have to do this for about 80% of the sites I can visit. Overall, my connection to the web pages have been slowed.

This problem does not appear to be specific to firefox as I have tried with IE and netscape with the same results.

I have a gateway 4540, windows xp, i use firefox almost exclusively, i run bitdefender. I even turned off all firewalls if that means anything.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am only moderately literate in computer-ese, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty.

There is another account on this computer in which the internet looks fine and works properly. How can i fix the internet?

PS: if i go to internet options in the control panel, they wont open, i click on the icon and nothing happens. Please help.

Absolutely frustrated by this new computer.  When looking at web pages they are often blank, partly there, or rearranged in a crazy manner. Then all is OK for a while before it all starts again.I've had it back to Harvey Norman to have Windows10  reinstalled twice. Last time they only "cleaned" it and didn't find any viruses. Told me it was all fixed, but IT ISN'T!!!The blank and crazy web pages are my own website, so I do know what is supposed to be there. Indeed it IS there when I use my old laptop.I installed Google Chrome thinking that might help. It didn't!I am totally disgusted with this computer. I spend endless hours trying find ways to get it to work. It is hardly used and less than 12 months old but as slow as a snail. Of course when it is BEHAVING well it is quite fast.Any suggestions?

A:blank internet pages?

Hi Not really. Since you have changed browser and another device works, then I think your router/firewall etc is all functioning as expected.  Unless a very very basic browser with no filter type plugins could be found to try, and I cannot suggest one. Which goes to content, and maybe you have some interfering Anti-Virus deciding the content is unsuitable, or the page is not signed. But I don't have any better ideas than you, other than dropping your firewall, disabling your A/V when it occurs and reloading the page.  Then imediately reinstate A/V. Actually I also use Linux and dual, boot so perhaps you could try a live distro on DVD or USB. If in doubt please ask.

This problem started a few days ago.
When I try to access a site that requires personal information or try to order an item, When I click the "checkout" button I get a page that reads "The page cannot be displayed". I have checked my security settings and dropped them down from medium to low hopeing this would do the trick. No such luckI am sending along the page that comes up as attachment, I'm sure youall know this message already, but for visual purposes.
Thank you very much..
apostle....

A:cannot access certain pages on internet

You are more than likely having problems accessing secure areas using SSL. You might want to update your version of IE or do a repair on it.

Hi there everyone,

Please any help would be fantastic. I am having problems with my computer at work. In trying to get into our extranet system, my computer seems to overlap the side-menu with the recent updates info it publishes reguarly and should be on the right side of the page - meaning the only way I can access the menu stuff is by manually going into source and copying the link texts to put into the browser.

THIS IS DAMNED ANNOYING & VERY TIME CONSUMING!!!

I've altered my screen resolution to the highest possible - and still no success.

Here's what happens:

When I log in and am directed to the homepage, there is supposed to be a menu list on the left and any "new news" is always published on the right. For some reason when I log in, the menu is covered over by this material that is supposed to be on the right.

The page menu itself is still there under the published material but can't be seen or accessed (I can only access it by using source and copying/pasting the appropriate http:// lines to my address bar.

The menu should appear on each of the other pages, but doesn't as it is overlapped by the material on these pages.

It works perfectly fine on my colleagues' computers, so can only put it down to something wrong on my computer.

I've noticed this same effect happens on a few other websites too, not just my work's extranet. The published pages overlap the main menus.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CAN SOMEONE HELP!

Many thanks

T

I have Windows XP and internet explorer 6.0. I resently got a new ISP. Frontiernet.net DSL. Now for some reason when i click on a link that someone sends in an email or in an instant messenger, the page won't open. I have to copy and paste it to the address bar, it opens fine. Also if i go to a chat room in yahoo messenger and click on a profile, I can't view it either. There has to be a setting I am overlooking. Please help.

A:Internet Web pages won't display

Download Hijackthis.
Create a folder on your hard drive and save it there.
Unzip the file and extract it to the folder you have created.
Scan your machine, then click on Save Log.

Post a copy back here and someone will be happy to review it.

Don't make any changes until instructed to do so.

A:Certain web pages cause Internet shutdown

Please do this
(Some members say they have already tried this in a reply; but later I find it has not been done!)
The following not only resets all Internet Explorer's settings, but also removes all temp files, all extensions are disabled (toolbars, browser extensions, and Browser Helper Objects), and activeX controls are restored.

How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES)

To use RIES in Internet Explorer 7, follow these steps:

1. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options.
2. On the Advanced tab, click Reset.
3. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
4. When Internet Explorer 7 finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK two times.
5. Close Internet Explorer 7. The changes take effect the next time that you open Internet Explorer 7.

Note for users who cannot start Internet Explorer 7 for some reason, use RIES from Internet Options in Control Panel.

I had a "XP Home Security 2011" virus and used malwarebytes to remove it. My computer seems to run good again except that:

1.) alot of my web pages are redirected somewhere else.
2.) I have automatic updates turned on but I have a red shield stating that automatic updates is turned off.

Is there something I can do to correct these problems and do I have any other problems lurking that I'm not aware of?

Thanks for any help.

A:something is redirecting my internet pages

Can you post the logs from Malwarebytes?
