CPU unsure, need to update memory, Help!

Q: CPU unsure, need to update memory, Help!

A Friend's computer is a mess, running unbearably slow, want to replace her 128 memory with at least 256, but not sure I am buying correct module. Her processor is a 80526, 733,256, 133, Fiber Channel 80(off her parts list). They have a Dual in line memory module, 128, 100M,16x64 4K, 168 in the computer now. At dell, it is selling a replacement for her Dimension L seris at SDRAM PC 133 168 Pin. Is this what I should be buying, as it looks like the module in the computer now is running at 100 M not 133m. Any help would be appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

My computer arrived on April 30th 2011, so it's new and I'm getting the BSOD.

I think it is bad memory, but Cyberpower wants me to be sure. They'll take the computer in for service, but that means I'm out a PC for a long time.

I have attached the latest dump file and am curious if anyone can diagnose it.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium.

AMD Radeon 6800 Series Video Card

I have run Memtest86 on each memory stick individually. All of them in all slots report an error 31% into the test.

Thanks for your help!

Indeed was memory corruption but I suspect from a driver.

What error and on what pass did memtest error?

Also please run driver verifier to find the problem driver

Hello Everyone. Been awhile since I've been here. Been able to solve most of the problems I've encountered on my own since my first post in the hallowed halls of the techsupportguy forums.

Alas, I am in some dire need of help for a problem I've been having. I've checked other posts on here as well as other websites, but none of them seems to address my problem specifically, so forgive me if you have to repeat yourselves.

I've been having randoms BSoDs and hard hangs, most notably during gaming and while using browsers, but also less frequently whenever I'm just eating and chatting to a friend. I'll just be sitting there starting at my desktop and a Page Fault error will pop up and the system will lock. These problems have ranged from blue screens describing to page faults to what seems to be the monitor shutting off and going completely black. Can't even shut down the computer by going through alt-f4 or the start menu via macros, so it's not a monitor problem. NOTE: It also crashes in safe mode.

This doesn't happen at all on some days, but on others it seems as if it occurs 5-6 times in a row.

I started by doing a system restore and updating all of my drivers, but it hasn't helped. I thought that I might have some memory problems, so I went ahead and I ran windows memory diagnostic and it reported that there was a hardware problem with my memory. I have not run memtest86 yet, though.

Another notable thing is that whe... Read more

Heyo! Hopefully this gets a view and some answers sometime soon, as I've been dealing with this issue for a few weeks now with no avail. My computer's task manager, when prompted to do so, displays multiple .exes under the same name -- something I understand is relatively normal. One of them, however, quickly begins to consume rapid amounts of memory after every restart, and it often results in severe issues completing even the most mundane of tasks.
(Around ten minutes after a restart.)

I'm not sure what's causing this, and attempting to google-fu myself an answer has only resulted in more confusion. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how I might go about fixing it?

A:svchost memory leak issue. I'm unsure of as to why.

It's normal that one of those "SVCHOST" processes uses up to say 140 MBs of memory. In that regard, 160 MB is not that far "out of line". "Svchost" using A LOT OF memory (say > 140 MB) is a sign there's a problem with one of the Services in combination with some other software. And reports of those conflicts could/will show up in "Eventviewer".

Hi, been having this for a while now, I believe it is something to do with the memory, as it tends to do this when the computer is trying to do to much at once, however it does not happen when the graphics card is removed (original assumption) so unsure if that is part of the issue.

The debug file is attached, if any extra information is required please say so.

We use Desktop Central to manage our windows updates. I've come across a new error that I have not seen all year. They are telling me it's a Microsoft error and they have no information on it.
I have a couple of Windows 7 machines that have the following error on multiple updates.
An attempt was made to create more links on a file than the file system supports.

Of the machines having this issue, they're not all the same KB. Using one of the machines as example, it's having this issue with 3 updates.
2019-10 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4519976)

2019-09 Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4516033)

2019-08 Security Only Quality Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4512486)

Seems like the standard Windows Updates fix's aren't working. Software distribution folder rename, fixit tools, etc. I'm not see this on any of our Windows 10 machines.
Any idea how to go about resolving this? Reimaging is way at the bottom of the list due to these machines being at remote sites.

Hey guys-

basic info about my computer:

Dell XPS 600
Media Center 2005 Edition with Service Pack 2

Basically, i was able to download drivers for my wireless card off of a friends computer and just transferred them over to mine.

right now, under my device manager for my network adapters, two things show up.

one is my Linksys Wireless-N USB Network Adapter WUSB300N

the other says 1394 Adapter

Where do i go from here? i cannot seem to figure out where to download from on the Dell site, as entering my service tag got me nowhere.. unless i am looking for the wrong thing? Anyone have any ideas?

I've got a 1 Gig USB SanDisk Memory Device. Been using it successfully for about a year. Recently I deleted a large chunk of memory in order to have capacity, and that memory went away.

But, when I try to transfer items to the USB drive, I am informed that there is no more room. When I select properties the visual display shows it is over 90% full, and the properties display says I've got 980 MB in use. From my own knowledge of what's on there and what I deleted, this is far from the truth.

I am able to see what's in the drive, and copy from it etc. When I select the drive off of MY COMPUTER, open it, do a 'select all' and take the properties off of the resulting display I find that there are about 175 MB of items there, which agrees with what I know to be on there. I've also tried to use a Disk Checkup on the USB memory, which doesn't find any problem and doesn't change anything.

This has been the case in utilizing the USB memory stick in three different computers now, running XP and 2000. So I think the problem is in the portable memory drive, or somehow common to multiple Windows systems.
Memory is a SanDisk Cruzer mini 1.0 GB which appears to mount and be recognized, and to dismount normally.

A) Any idea what is going wrong with the memory?
B) Any idea how to fix it?
C) Is this a sign that the memory USB is going bad?

Thanks for help and ideas. Always (reluctantly) willing to learn!

A:how / what can I move to an external memory so I can update ...

Nora-B Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about lacking disk space and wanted to help -- but need more information. Let's start by getting our terms straight -- it's not "memory"; instead, it's disk space.  And, yes, you CAN move some files and folders to an external driver or to a USB stick to free up some disk space. But I need more information before making suggestions. First, please follow these instructions for finding the detailed product number of your laptop:  http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824?jumpid=reg_r1002_usen_c-001_title_r0001 Second, I need to know what OS version you are running.  And, if it's Win10, did that come preinstalled on your PC or did you do the Win10 Upgrade?  This is important because the Win10 Upgrade leaves a lot of files on the drive that are no longer needed after the Upgrade is completed. We can proceed once you provide the information. Thanks

ALrighty then...... I see a LOT of windows anniversary threads, sorry for not reading all 6 million of them to see if my problem was addressed. By the titles I saw it wasn't.

Anyway, I've gone through this whole download install thing about 5 times now. EACH time at the end it won't boot my computer, comeback with a blue screen and an error that says basically: You don't have enough memory.

I have OVER 800GB on the main hard drive itself empty.

I have tried updating when it said it was time. FAIL

I tried manually going to updates after the first fail. FAIL

I downloaded the file directly from Microsoft. FAIL

I ran the microsoft update fixit tool. FAIL

I get it. I need to either get a thumb drive or a disc and burn an iso but WHY? I don't have a single disc or thumbdrive with 850gb's on it, which is how much i have on my computer empty NOW and Microsoft says it isn't enough.......

So far this is really the *biggest* problem I have had with win 10 and really it's not a *problem* yet that is particularly difficult (just a PITA).

Anyway, can I do this without an ISO? and can you direct me to the thread or tutorial on HOW to do the ISO/thumbdrive thing? I really hate making duplicate threads for the same problem, but those threads were all over the place.

I think this is associated with windows update, as my Microsoft Security Essentials does not allow me to update, and I also ran process explorer and found that the svchost.exe that uses the memory is running a number of processes including Windows Update, and the program that comes under that tree of svchost.exe is VAIO Update. I ran services.msc and set Windows Update to disabled. Now my computer runs fine, but I can no longer update windows. Hi, Probably you alesady read the book, it clearly says Two SODIMM slots - non customer accessible / non-upgradeableDDR3L-1600 Dual Channel SupportSupports up to 16 GB of system RAM in the following configurations:? 16384-MB total system memory (81922)? 12288-MB total system memory (81921) + (40961)? 8192-MB total system memory (81921) or (40962)? 4096-MB total system memory (40961) or (20482) For the secon question: non customer accessible / non-upgradeable simply means you can't upgrade yourself. The true story is you need an HP Authorized Service Provider parts to do this work for you otherwise HP may not honor warranty. Regards.

Hi,

I was thinking about updating my bios to support more memory but im not sure exactly if this would work. I currently have 2gb of 4200 533 (2x1gb dual channel) and im after 4gb of a higher speed but the site details are a little urm.. not detailed lol. I know it says it only supports 2gb with 4200 with the original bios but one of the updates does say this if its any help. "Fixed Install The 4G memory of frequence 800 will hang issue" does this mean they have updated it to 4gb at 800mhz? like i say very murky heh

could someone please take a look and find out exactly what the updates have to offer in a little bit more detail like memory speed and capacity and processor update support etc.

would be much appreciated. here is the link

Hi, I have a problem where svhost.exe uses up all my memory within 5 minutes of starting my computer (a sony Vaio laptop running windows vista), and I have to force a shut down.

If anyone can give any information as to why this might be the case and how I could fix it, that would be great. Thanks.

Hello, I am hoping to find out my computer is infected with something harmful.
I am using a quite newly installed Windows 7 64-bit OS (about 3 weeks old). I've been noticing about once per day, my computer will feel a bit sluggish, and when I check Task Manager there is a process called update.exe running under no User Name. It often is maxing out one of my cores (25 CPU usage) and uses a lot of memory (last time I saw the program run, it kept rising and peaked to about 300k). When I attempt to right click the process and select Open File Location, nothing happens. I do not recall if it had a Description. I would estimate it runs for 15-40 seconds before leaving.

I have attempted to search for the process name on google, but it seems to be a very common name and thus I am getting too many conflicting reports about what the process is.

Thank you for any help!

Double-click mbam-setup-2.X.X.XXXX.exe to install the application (X's are the current version number).
Make sure a checkmark is placed next to Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
Once MBAM opens, when it says Your databases are out of date, click the Fix Now button.
Click the Settings tab at the top, and then in the left column, select Detections and Protections, and if not already checked place a checkmark in the selection box for Scan for rootkits.
Click the Scan tab at the top of the program window, select Threat Scan and click the Scan Now button.
If you receive a message that updates are available, click the Update Now button (the update will be downloaded, installed, and the scan will start).
The scan may take some time to finish,so please be patient.
If potential threats are detected, ensure that Quarantine is selected as the Action for all the listed items, and click the Apply Actions button.

Firstly, I am not particularly tech savvy, so please keep that in mind when offering instructions. >.<

Specs:
AMD Athlon Dual-Core QL-62 2.00 GHz
2.00 GB RAM
HP Compaq presario CQ60 Notebook PC
32-bit Vista

Issues:
I tried to install updates for my lexmark printer as well as the Windows update that was highly recommended by the autoupdater. At any rate, the Lexmark update went through just fine, but the Windows update failed because it asked for an XP CD. As it is Vista and the OS came preinstalled, I have no way of inserting said CD.
My computer is seriously overusing RAM. I have closed all unnecessary programs and it is still using over 1GB of the 2GB that I have. This is a recent problem, and running registry cleaners and AVG have not helped. Also, though I am really unfamiliar with this... Task Manager states that there are 67 processes in use whereas only 18 are listed. Is there a way to look at these other processes, or is this normal?
I greatly appreciate any help offered, and, as before, please dumb it down as best you can. >.< Thanks

A:Windows update and Memory usage issues

I'm not sure about your first question. There should be no reason for Vista to ask for an XP CD.

As for your second question, that's the way your computer is supposed to run. Memory is made to be used and if it's not being used, it's going to waste. Windows will manage your available memory and use it where it needs it. Registry Cleaners are a waste of time, they're snake oil and will do more harm to your computer than good. In most cases, they will NOT speed up a computer. These are both age old questions and nothing to worry about.

Hey, so over the past few weeks my computer has been getting random CPU spikes, where there's only 3% being used but it says it's using 100% of it and freezes.

On top of this, Windows Update seems to be taking up a lot of memory - and I mean insane amount, I've seen it go up twice as high as in this screenshot. For now, I keep the service disabled rather than cripple my machine, but when it's enabled it's always when it's "Checking for new updates"

After further investigation it seems like both of these problems are caused when I am doing something over the internet. The CPU problem happens when I'm downloading games off of Steam (as well as random things as well, but it always happens in that scenario) and the memory problem always happens when windows update is checking for new updates.

How do I fix this?

refer any support request to them. seems MPV has gone bankrupt and website closed down..
Computer failed to boot recently even into safe mode. i then formatted drive and tried to

reinstall OS but setup stopped while copying setup files and displayed a blue screen with "stop"

message listing a group of nos' beginning with "OxOOOOOO1E, followed with 5 more similar nos'-
also "Mode_Exception_Not_Handled". several attempts to repeat install gave same result.

from what i can understand about this problem it likely is hardware related, bad memory. needs

bios update or bad power supply. i'm now waiting for replacement (Rambus) memory modules.

meanwhile i installed Win 98 OS which installed without a a hitch. i did a scan disk (thorough)

with no errors. cleaned inside the case.. CPU Fan, power supply. reseated Memory modules and

removed modem. sound card, network card, etc leaving only monitor mouse, and keyboard connected to

the motherboard. same results with install attempt..

We have Windows 7 SP1 (x86 and x64) deployed across our domain, running on hardware that ranges from very old to very new.  A common problem that has started occurring (since the deployment of Windows 7)
is that machines with 2 GB of memory will run very slowly during various times of day.

Through process monitoring and live captures, we have narrowed it down to the wuaserv.exe service running inside a svchost.exe process.  The service will consume as much memory as it can, until the machine
is unusable.  Stopping the windows update service immediately releases the memory and the box will run in a normal state again.

There seems to be several others out there who have come across this problem, and all have come up with a couple common answers.  Repair the windows update service (has not worked), or stop using Microsoft Update in favor of Windows Update (not applicable
since we use SCCM 2012 SP1 for update management.)
I can't just change the SCCM setting to stop scanning so frequently, I need to ensure my systems have the updates we've applied, and enforcement is critical.  Even if I reduce the scans, the problem still occurs when the scan kicks off.  This is
having a negative impact on our business, and I'm not looking for a workaround.  I need a solution to this problem so we can move forward.
If this is not the right forum for this post, please let me know where this would better fit.  Thanks in advance.... Read more

Everything seems to be working fine

- Installed Office 2010 ok

Took restore point

- Installed the 6 or so Windows updats
BSOD
- Rolled back Windows to previous restore point and began selecting updates
- managed to get most of them in but with 3 remaing everytime an update is attempted BSOD

- Swapped the slots the RAM was located as the BSOD was saying 'Page_fault_in_non_paged_area' ucb_lh32.sys
-error STOP 0X00000050 - usually a RAM issue.

Carried out memory test using memtest86 (ran for around 6 hours and no errors found)

- Remaing updates are KB2505438 and VIA-DISPLAY-VIA Chrome9 HC IGP FAMILY WDDM

Everything looks fine but the BSOD is making me want to trash the PC and install something like XP instead.

Any ideas - minidump files attached.

It's the S3 graphics driver causing this. Go to the motherboards support website and get the chipset and graphics driver from there. Did this PC originally come with Windows 7 loaded?
