I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A:Sub-context menus for my custom context menus?

Hi Hakon,

You would need to locate the Context menu that has been added in the registry;

for example

you would then add a new Key within that which would then produce what you are after.

If you give some details of what exactly you're after, including programs to run, I may be able to create a registry key for you

Greetings again, and Happy New Year! A few days ago something (or things) bad, found their way onto my Media Center Edition pc. These manifest via a screen with a bold security page telling me that I was possibly infected with viruses, worms, etc. Having had experiences with these screens before, I did not try to exit out, or click on the "close" button. I went to the task mgr 1st where I thought I could kill the screen, but found that the task mgr closed as soon as I opened it. This led me to believe that I did indeed have an infection of some sort, and since it had obviously made it past my antivirus program (avira), I made the decision to reinstall the OS, as this had happened before. My computer is an Empower Media Center brand and runs the Media center version of XP Pro. Once I began the install however, I began to have problems. I started getting messages saying that this file or that could not copy, so I made the decision to put Windows 7 on it instead. This is the RC version, and, having tried it on another computer and found it to be a welcome change to what I had found with Vista, I was more than eager to see how it would perform on this computer. The install went without a hitch - I did a clean install and 7 looked great. I decided to start personalizing it by changing the default theme. That's when I discovered that I have no context menus. I tried right clicking on files, folders, even on my browser, all to no avail. My context menus have simply disappea... Read more

I am quite interested if anyone has any feedback on this. I have 2 different Windows 10 machines...

1. A clean install of Windows 10.
2. An upgrade from Windows 7.

The right-click context menus are very different on each. I have imported the same themes and tried to match as many of the tweaks on the 2 machines.

For starters I have disabled Segoe UI completely, and replaced it with Arial. Also, Font Smoothing and Cleartype are completely disabled.

For the clean 10 machine, I get clean white context menus, both on the desktop and taskbar... no blurring.
For the 10 machine upgraded from 7, I get a gray blurry context menu, and a dark gray one on the taskbar.

See the compare pick below. Click on it to view full size to see the true compare.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I am one of those that cannot stand cleartype, especially on desktop monitors.

The new W10 insider build context menus have huge paddings.
In the netbook, the taskbar context menu almost cover the entire height of the screen and the start menu context menu overflows and shows arrows to scroll.

Is there a way to make them more compact like in RTM

A:windows 10 context menus have huge padding

I have this problem too. The reason why I don't like OS's after XP is their huge context menu.

They look so ugly and what is worse, there is totally unnecessary space on menus.
To be things even worse, they killed Classic Theme. I used Classic Theme on Windows 7 just because of ugly menus of Aero Theme and other themes.
I hope some day ClassicShell will make compact menus like XP or Classic Theme.

I have a problem with these context menus after some applications, like Winamp, created chaos in the menu for file folder and folder. I cannot double-click on folders anymore because the default task has been changed as well. For some reason I cannot access to edit most entries in the menu. I would like to change the menu default back to double-click and eliminate several items in the menu.

Does anyone know of a windows or third-party utility that would allow me to edit this menu directly? Is there a solution in the Policy Editor? Or, failing that, where in the registry I need to go to to make manual changes?

Hi All, just received an Inspiron 15 5000 series model 5567 with TouchScreen and Windows 10 pro. I have found that when the right button on the touchpad is used no context menu is displayed regardless of what application or desktop is active. The driver installed is a generic PS2 driver and not the synaptics driver I am use to seeing with Dell. It only allows definition of what button is the primary button. You cannot change anything such as what button does what or the touch areas or sensitivity.
But as I say my biggest concern is that the context menus will not display with the right touchpad button. The right button behaves the same as the left button on the touchpad.
This is a brand new dell and out of the box the touchpad functionality is questionable. Does anyone have a solution for this? Is a synaptics driver/software missing?
All help gratefully accepted.

I had many temporary internet files and other clutter from months of fairly heavy internet usage. My solution was to download a "freeware" internet clutter cleaner from the internet. In addition to "cleaning the clutter"- I lost some functionality as well. None of the right click context menus work anymore in any of the Windows Programs I use- including on the Windows desktop. Scouring Google for help techniques and tips: I tried to resolve the problem myself without much luck. Here are the two things I have tried so far... 1. In the "Windows Policy Editor"- there is an option to remove "Windows Explorer's Default Context Menu". I double checked that this setting was disabled. 2. "typed regedit in the Start search box. Went down to HKEY_CURRENT_USER - Software - Microsoft - Windows - CurrentVersion - Policies - Explorer. In the right hand pane I looked for “NoViewContextMenu” so I could set its value to 0." The entries in the registry do not exist. I have only three registry entries under explorer. These entries include "Default", "NoDrives", and "NoDriveTypeAut..." I know that I may still have some options- including a "system restore," but I am hoping to use that method only as a last resort. I can still use the context menus (except for the desktop menu) using a keyboard shortcut. I would like my right click mouse shortcut functionality back. I am certain that my mouse is worki... Hey guys,

I restarted my PC because of a problem with a webpage, and when I tried to log back on my desktop icons were missing and so were my startup options that are normally on the toolbar. Also, some context menus are missing, all I get are "send to drive F, and E, not desktop or anything.

I restarted again, and now my wallpaper is gone, but some startup options seem to be back.

My icons/folders display when I go to C:/Users/<myname>/Desktop, but don't appear in the actual desktop.

There are probably other screwed up things too.

What's going on? Did I pick up a virus or something?

EDIT: "Set as Wallpaper" is broken also 0_O

Do you have a Restore Point from before it happened? If so that may restore it. It's also a good idea to use a Registry Backup program such as ERUNT.

Edit: Sometimes if you get something strange like that a complete power down and start up may clear it up. I'd try that before running the Restore Point.

Caveat Emptor!

Nirsoft.net offers two utilities: ShellMenuView and ShellExtensionView. On their webpages, the former mentioned support for Win 8, the latter only up to Win 7. Strangely, the former lack dates on the webpage, while the latter's latest is May of this year.

The last time I used them was with Microsoft Vista. Back when, I explored many programs. They often added context menu entries to the system without giving users choices. And if I recalled correctly, Vista had a bunch of context menu entiries as well. It was blissful getting rid of some of them. The need has not been great since then.

I should add that this forum has archived tutorials that enable and disable specific context menu entries without third-party software.

I was wondering if there was a program like MMM+ (Context menu program Mmm+. Windows menu program, clean-up menu-items with MMM Plus.) wherein you can organize various context menus into sub-menus to make the context menu look "cleaner" and simpler? The MMM+ doesnt work on Win7 x64 that's why I'm looking for an alternative... I tried running it in compatibility mode as well, with no results :/

I tried ShellMenuView and ShellExView and it doesnt provide the option I was looking for..

If you're not keen on the 'larger' spacing on some Explorer right click context menus, or,
have applied a different 'text size' and, perhaps applied 'Bold' but find that the modifications do not adhere,

here's a quick Registry modification to fix that.

If you are comfortable modifying the Windows Registry, fine, but I always stress to create a Restore Point before doing so.

Open the Windows Registry and navigate to:

In the right pane of 'FlightedFeatures', create a New►DWORD (32-bit) Value,
name it ImmersiveContextMenu,
give it a data value of 0 and click OK.

Close the Registry Editor, restart Explorer or Logoff and back on or Restart.

That's it!

One of my biggest complaints about Vista or W7 is the inability to customize the image file type context menus to put my alternate choices at the top.

This saves always having to take the “Open With” (multiple choice test) to open a Image in an alternate program like Photoshop.

I’ve found out how to hack the registry entries for Irfanview to customize the Context menu for each image file type .. something like attached.

In the case of a gif file as shown, since it may be animated or have transparency …
I may want to open it in Explorer to see how it’ll look on the web ..
or in Photoshop’s Image Ready to get all the animated frames ..
or just send it to Photoshop for advanced editing.

For other image file types .. Photoshop is the alternate Choice.

I’ve tested this in W7-rtm7600 (x64) and with Photoshop CS2.

Anyone interested in how to do this ???

I have no clue if this is the correct forum to post this in. I will like to explain how I have gotten to this point. For some reason, there was some weird things happening to my laptop. When I ctrl+alt+del, there was no options other than lock the computer and log off. The task manager completely disappeared. I had no clue why that happened. Secondly, my context menus wouldn't work on the start menu, so deleting a folder or a program out of my start menu was impossible unless I went through the countless folders in my C drive to do it that way. The problem was, the option to enable or disable context menus was missing from my properties, which caused the issue to begin with.

I went on countless websites, trying to remedy the problem. I finally came across the tutorials on this site and fixed both issues quickly! The issue I am having now is a fix I tried before I knew what I was doing and I have no clue how to change it back. When I open the context menu in explorer, instead of the first option being 'Open', there is only a 1. It was when I tried to go into Regedit and fix the issue there. I am wondering is there is any way to change it back to 'Open' and how would I go about doing this?

My problem is similar to another thread I found: The context menu (right-click menu) pops up on its own. The menu I get depends on the active window. It may be the desktop, browser, or any other application. If it has a context menu, that menu will pop up on its own.

This is an intermittent problem. Sometimes I can go for days with no problem. Other times the menu will pop up so rapidly that I cannot complete two keystrokes. Sometimes it will pop up a couple times per hour. Other times it will pop up a hundred times a minute. Sometimes the problem will go away on its own after a few minutes. Sometimes it persists for hours and even days.

I have disabled the internal mouse and it makes no difference.

Is there a program to modify *all* context menu entries in Windows 8.1 x64?

I've downloaded a few apps but none of them offer the ability to remove context menu entries like "preview", "rotate left/right", "print", etc.

I've manually removed some context menu entries such as Skydrive, but the process is very slow via registry editor, and if i understand correctly it needs to be manually done for ALL file types, which means repeating steps for jpg, jpeg, bmp, png, gif, etc.

Here is an example of what i mean -- When i right click JPG i get this massive menu. I want to remove:

Preview, Set as desktop background, Print, Preview (why is it listed TWICE?), rotate right, rotate left, share with, send to.

I recently installed Winrar and it added a great many entries to my context menus.

When using many apps, for example Windows Explorer, and I right-click on a file name in order to move or copy it, a large number of items appear in the context menu that were not present before I installed Winrar.

Easiest way to deal with this is to full uninstall and then do a selective install. You should be queried as to if you want the context menu feature or not. That is how it works with 7zip which is my preferred utility. You might even be offered to change the setup in options or at the uninstall/change portion.

I know this problem has been posted here before, but I have a few extra issues on top of it. When I close a context menu, whatever choice I made sticks to the screen, transparent. I'm able to fix it my going into Personalization and switching to a different theme and back, but it creates a different issue. When the screen greys (I guess it blues, really), and says "Please Wait," it sticks there for a long time as well. when I alt-tab, I see the windows behind it, with the changed theme, but my screen is frozen until I ctrl-alt-delete open the task manager, which somehow causes it to close. Even my taskbar is screwing up; the hidden icons lag when I right-click them, opening the context menu three or four seconds later, which then take a second to respond. I'm sorry, I know I'm all over the place, but these three issues have been a problem for the past few days, and I don't know what caused them to suddenly appear. Anyone who might know what my problem is, help would be greatly appreciated.

well...of course when u first in stall windows everything works perfectly, but then over time, things erode little by little until some things stop working properly..

my problem is this...after selecting a large number of files (3200) and right clicking on them, the windows explorer goes thru a few seconds of "not responding" and then gives me nothing....the file context menu never appears..

then i logged into another barely used account (hidden admin) and found it worked like when i'd just installed windows...

obviously, it's got something to do with USED accounts eroding over time...which leads me to my question..

is there anyway to (without doing a system restore) restore the integrity of the user account files that would have an effect on things like this?

thanks for any help..

A:problems with file context menus

hrm..i have a sneaky idea that mite work...couldn't i just delete my user account, save the settings, and then rename the admin account after i log into it?

i think i'd somehow have to use the settings files from my older account to modify the new account..hrm...maybe if i save those buggers somewhere and then copy any i need back into the new account as needed....MUUUAHAHAHA

The Window Color and Appearance settings all appear to be normal (Including the 'menu' setting which would control the text in the context menus), however, you'll notice that there's messed up text in the top right hand corner - distorted, and at an angle. That text should be beneath 'Active Window'.

My right click menus, and the File/Edit/View/etc menus in some applications and windows, are messed up.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?

A:Solved: Context Menus broken?

Well, I solved it (with the help of a friend.)

Created another user profile, and everything worked correctly. So, I went back into my normal user profile and tried a normal theme - and everything worked.
Looks like something in the theme I was using was broken, despite having checked it against other themes.
So, yay

I want to remove about 8 items from the right click context menu either in Explorer or while on the Desktop.

I read an article that said all you had to do was edit the Registry by doing a search for ShellNew and remove the entire key if you didn't want any of them. I did this several times and did find all of them at least 5 times. But they are still there.

What is the secret for getting rid of these items?

A:Remove items from Right Click context menus

Get ShellExView: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html
You can disable right click entries (Context Menu) from there.

Hi,yesterday I got my HPenvy. Now seems some issue with its touch pad, I'm seeing a few but the primay issue which I'm facing is with its touch pad. Say for example while using the touch pad to navigate windows explorer context menus menu disappears by itself (say I'll be able to create a new folder after 10-15 attempts some times). But I never created one in my first attempt.  But if I use may arrowkeys to navigate through the context menu I dont have the issue described above. And some times some keys are not responding (still trying to find a pattern for the issue). Is this a known issue or will I be forced to return the product though I like it verymuch (over all). Kallada1978

I'm working on this laptop to basically block everything except a sheet to fill out in the ambulance on the way back to the fire station. All my problems are solved except one thing, this last context menu that allows me to get into file explorer and effectively having a way better shot at making changes. Although no one is probably that tech savy at this place to even know to right click and get around this (I do have almost all programs blocked through the disallowrun registry entries and all other right click context menu's blocked) I'd feel happier and more comfortable getting this menu removed too, any suggestions?
