Yoga 730 Keyboard Replacement

Q: Yoga 730 Keyboard Replacement

Hello, I recently got my Yoga 730 (back in December), and the keyboard has been acting super odd and I was wondering if this is a common issue or if there are any easy fixes. Like a week and a half ago a set of keys on the right side of my keyboard started to break. It seems like these keys are all interconnected somehow based on their locations. The keys are, 0, P, [, ;, ', and /. The weird thing is they aren't completely broken. For example, yesterday I could not get any of those listed keys, along with G and H, to work, but this morning I opened up my laptop and they are all working perfectly. I am sure it is only a matter of time before they give out again. The laptop is still under warranty, but they said the process of shipping it in, repairing it, and shipping it back will all take about 2 weeks which is a long time to not have a laptop I use a lot each day for both school and work. I am wondering if there is possibly a simple repair I could do myself to fix the keys, or about how much would it cost to have a third-party repair shop do the fix in shop. Some other miscellanous information: The keys are not 'sticky', they feel the same as the functioning keys so there is nothing preventing them from being pressed down completely. I have not spilled anything on the keyboard so there is no damage from that. Thanks for reading.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Generally, if it's still under warranty, you'll want to send it in rather than fix it yourself and that's assuming it's the keyboard, itself, and not some driver conflict.

Just to be clear, the keyboard is not physically "broken" in any way. It's just that the listed keys often don't function properly, correct?

You could try using System Restore to roll the 730 back to a restore point from before you had the issue. Also try a clean boot or boot into Safe Mode to see if it happens, there.

Hi! I've got Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 Silver (https://www.alza.cz/EN/lenovo-ideapad-yoga-13-silver-d375124.htm), and while I am quite content with the device, my keyboard stopped working. I was wondering whether any of you might know and suggest an online reseller (official or otherwise), where I could get hold of a replacement keyboard. Now, I suppose backlit keyboard versions of newer Yoga laptops will not work I guess, will they? From what I have read Yoga 13 Silver does not have the slot required for backlit, but aside that, will the keyboard function and will it fit (dimension-wise)? If so, what is the voltage and current required? Would soldering a small battery to the backlit cable be a good idea (I accept the fact that I wouldn't be able to regulate it)? Thank you in advance!ck

Hi, I bought a Yoga 900 i7 16Gb 512Gb in the US because it was a lot cheaper than at home (About $500!!) However I forgot that the keyboard layout would be different. Can I change the keyboard (I've done it before) and where can I get the replacement part short of buying an accident damaged one? I'm after a Swiss keyboard. If you know the part number that would be helpful. Many thanks. Jon

My keyboard has taken quite a spill and some of the keys are very stick/stiff to press down on. I'd like to completely replace the keyboard. How do I do this? I know with most laptops you simply pop the little tabs around the perimeter of the keyboard but with this model the entire keyboard face is like one big piece. Must I disassemble the entire laptop from the bottom? Or is there a way to pop off just the top of the keyboard?

Hello! I just get into the comunity and I don't know how to post a new message. Maybe you can help me. I have the same laptop as you have it "Lenovo Yoga 710-11ikb" and i'm struggling to find a keyboard for it. I had an incident, I spelt a little bit of a coffee on the keyboard. The laptop was checked and apperantly it has no problem apart the keyboard. My issue is regarding the model. I found a keyboard but the model is ISK not IKB... do you know if it fits? Or can you give some sites where i can look for a keyboard? I'm from Romania and here it costs almost half of the price I paid for the laptop. I don't mind if it is a second one as long as it fits and works. Thank you very much.

The original keyboard (French Azerty) of my Y3P is not working properly (I published the issue in previous post). I bought an US keyboard to replace it, but is not fitting the notebook front mask (some of the holes of the keycaps are different size for French Azerty and standard US Qwerty, as the keycaps are different sizes).I didnt found a solution in a reasonable budget (French Lenovo repair center asked for 250? to change the keyboard)! As it is impossible to find a French Azerty keyboard as spare part, I am looking to buy another  US keyboard AND the front case mask, costs something like 60?. Can somebody advise if any potential compatibility issue??Thanks in advance

Hi shields,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can review this article:
How to lookup and purchase Accessories, Upgrades, and FRU/CRU Replacement Parts

CHecking with the hardware manual shows example part number 90205132 ZIVY0 Upper Case SV W/KB-US. You can check on the parts lookup page for your upper case that includes the bezel and keyboard.

Check availability of the parts with Lenovo encompass here.

You can reference the hardware manual for dissassembly although since most of the parts are attached to it, you may need to remove major parts altogether as discussion here. Service training videos are currently not available at the moment for the model.

I hope this helps answer your query.

My X1 Yoga keyboard stopped responding suddenly. Was working fine, walked away for 15 minutes, came back to wake from sleep and no key response. Track button and click buttons on keyboard work fine. Caps lock and F1 indicator lights don't work either. The touchpad is fine. None of the keys work at all. Didn't install any new software or updates. Bought replacement keyboard from laptopkeyboard.com and replaced but still same exact issue so don't believe it is a faulty membrane (as suspected).  Pulling hair out trying to understand.  Only thought is maybe either the system board or the ribbon cable from the keyboard to the board went bad.  There are two ribbon cables from the keyboard to the system board.  My guess is one is for the track buttons and the other for the keys.  Before replacing these, hoping someone has some other idea (maybe like a simple software glitch?).  Thanks.

My laptop got wet (water).. At first only one key was not working.
It got worse when i tryed to fix it I put it under a fan and it made most keys not respond
some keys were working but i decided to change the keyboard.
( i didnt power it off and just used a usb keyboard)

I have replaced the keyboard from ebay
My question is about the back lit strip.
My old keyboard; had a ribben cable coming out to LED light node and additional black plastic wraping on the backside of keyboard.
I broke the ribben from the old keyboard ( no not the regular ribben cable )
I reconnected the new keyboard which; did not have led lights or black plastic
I go into keyboard on control pannel and it says my keyboard is connected (1 to usb & 2 to the computers port Standard P/S2 keyboard& is working fine
.( it isnt working at all)
Does my laptop need to have the led circuit connected?
is it a loop to the keyboard ribben ( which i have connected)

I have talked to someone who believes this is for led(s) and all that is uncommon on non-backlit keyboards and should not be necessary for the keyboard to work and we believe its only lighting.
keyboard to turn on but I am missing a ribben connection to this extra strip of LED lights and what else ?

Should i order a plastic led light strip and stick it to my new keyboard to match the original
Do i need to complete the circuit where the led ribben was connected as it is a loop or safety feature or to complete the circuit
is there any chance i bl... Read more

Hi, I noticed that when I took the laptops out from a computer bag and immediately flipped them over into a tablet, the login screen showed up with a prompt to enter the password. However, virtual keyboard did not show up. I had to turn the laptps to laptop mode, entered the password and then flipped them back to tablet for the machines to function. This has happened to both my Yoga 730 15" 4K and Yoga C930 4K. Why? Perhaps it is not the virtual keyboard not showing up but the touch screens did not respond? Is this a common issue for the Yoga line?

So I purchased a Lenovo X1 Yoga in Japan and I absolutely hate Japanese keyboard layouts (anyone that has used one after using a US keyboard knows what I mean - a space bar that is smaller than the enter key, poor placement of certain keys, specifically ", ', and @. There is just no logic behind any of it and honestly, there is no need. One can easily type in Japanese, just fine, with a standard US English layout keyboard. Sorry, I guess I didn't need to state that, but perhaps it will help with SEO to ensure someone finds this page when searching for those keywords.  Anyway, I finally found the information I needed to swap this keyboard out (and throw it in the trash), even though Lenovo support in Japan basically told me it's not possible. It does seem like a huge undertaking though (as you basically have to dismantle the entire laptop to get the keyboard out). But it does seem as though the English keyboards are compatible with all X1 Yoga laptops (even my Japanese X1 Yoga). The Lenovo customer service staff told me to get FRU PN: 00JT864 (00JT864 N KBD,US,LB,screw,CHY,Backlit), which is the US English replacement keyboard. It's also specified on the PDF document  on this page (https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/PD103738 ) for the 20FR and 20FQ. Scroll half way down and you will see it.  However, I am having trouble finding the keyboard from a seller in Asia, with the same FRU #. When searching for 00JT864, the only source I can... I've been getting the dreaded blue screen of death with the memory management error for a while now and knowing the RAM is soldered on I figured there was nothing I could do about it, shutting the computer off once a day seemed to help but if I'm using it for a full day then it crashes. Today I had a new one which was the BSoD and the pfn_list_corrupt error so I ran the memory diagnostic and it came back with a hardware problem with the memory, now I suspected that this was the issue with the memory management errors but now this seems to confirm it. So what are my options, just put up with it? It seems there's no real fix but aside from the annoyance of crashes and restarts which for now I can just about live with, is this going to ultimately kill my yoga or not? This along with the wifi problem (thankfully switching that out fixed it) pretty much means this will be the last lenovo product in this household. If I can get another year out of it then I won't feel quite as bad about buying it....BTW is the Pro short for problematic?

A:RAM replacement or fix for a Yoga 2 Pro?

Hi, No one should have to put up with a computer that is not working correctly. If your computer is in warranty do activate it.If not, and assuming the cause is a bad memory chip, you could explore a really invase alternative that is to replace the memory chips. This will requisite advanced eletronics knowledg, a BGA soldering station and new chips. AS you can guess this will not be easy and should be done by a professional. Or you could ask Lenovo for a repair quote. If everything else fails, new computer  Are your shure it's a hardware memory problem? Have you tried restoring to a factory image? Tried playing around with drivers?

I need to upgrade the 128 GB ssd in my Yoga 3 14 to a 256 ssd or hybrid drive.  This drive is very thin - only 5mm - and I cannot find a 256 GB replacement drive for it even though Lenovo sells a Yoga 3 14 with a 256 GB drive.   Where/how can I obtain this 256 GB drive?  Lenovo parts and retail sales website and phone support is woefully unhelpful - multiple calls with no call returns or referrals to other extentions where the person just referred me to another extension.

A:Yoga 3 14 ssd replacement

I have found a good solution to my problem of replacing the small 128 GB ssd on my Yoga 3 14.  The answer is a 500 GB hybrid drive from Seagate - ST500LX012.  This drive is only 5mm high, installs perfectly and fairly easily into the Yoga 3 14 in the mounting space for the hard drive.  Because it's a hybrid drive, it's fast - boots nearly as fast as the SSD that it replaces and generally seems nearly as quick as the SDD, for way less money.  The space allowed for the drive in this Yoga is only 5mm high and I found that a 7mm or thicker drive will not work in this machine if you want to actually lock it securely in place with the existing brackets.  Finding this drive was not easy, as Seagate won't sell it directly and the normal online retailers don't carry it, at least not yet, though they certainly should.  I found the drive finally at www.harddrivesforsale.  Again, Lenova support/sales was no help at all in finding a larger capacity replacement drive and was very disappointing.

Sorry, I guess I am cross posting.  I initially put this in the Yoga Book forum, sorry about that. -- Hi gang. I picked up a 11.6" 710-11ISK and it had a screen with some issues.  I picked up a replacement on ebay but it didn't fit.  The original screen has the Windows logo on the very center bottom, the new one did not.  The original screen (exterior shell, LCD, hinges -- entire assemnbly I'm talking about here) is about 1/2" shorter than the replacement.  At the bottom bezel of the original screen, where the two screws are that hold the screen together, the little rubber grommets that sit over those screws, were black.  On the replacement screen assembly, they were grey (as was the bezel). I'm wondering if there were a couple of versions (generations?) of the 11.6" 710, and if anyone can help me identify exactly what I have?  Mine has 8GB RAM, soldered onboard the motherboard.  There are still a bunch of replacement screens on Ebay, but, having seen one that doesn't fit, they all look to be of that particular model. Any ideas would be wonderful. Thanks.
