Software for capturing and recording streaming video

Q: Software for capturing and recording streaming video

I was wondering if anyone can recommend good software for capturing and storing steaming video from the web....a streaming New Years Eve concert for example.

Preferred Solution: Software for capturing and recording streaming video

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

1) My computer will not load and play WMV files...itll play .rm, quicktime, youtube vids, but not wmv files. So if i go to www.break.com and one of the videos is a wmv it wont play...WHY!!!??

2) i have a Canon zr30mc digital video camcorder, and im trying to get the videon onto my computer. it is hooked up through the DV in/out, and opens with Nero Vision. everything it begins to record the video to the hard drive or to a CD, nero messed up and crashes...what can i do?

thanks everyone

A:2 Problems...playing Wmv Streaming Videos, Capturing Video From A Dv Camcorder To The Comp

I can't address the second one -- you might want to query Nero support -- and give an exact description of the "crash" -- if there is an error message you need to report it fully. On the first, right click on a downloaded .wmv file and select "properties".What media player is it currently associated to open with? Typically this would be Windows Media Player by default. But you can try others -- such as Real Player if you have it -- or download Videolan which plays just about anything:http://www.videolan.org/You can change the default player association through the file properties "change" dialog -- which I think works best if you have VistaBy the way I had a similar problem in Windows Vista trying to play .avi files online in Internet Explorer. Changing the association -- through the individual file properties -- back and forth resolved it.

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

Hi I thought I had found safe from virus video capture software for use with youtube.
It is called "easy video capture" on the cnet download site. Free
Reviews for it were all positive and no one reported nasties on their computers.
I decided to try it but I did not install on the laptop I am writing this on I used my old xp machine as a precaution. Good job I did it carried a virus and the virus software protection dealt with it. As a result it would not run and I had to reset my browser home page which had been set to blank.
My question is does anyone know of a safe to download youtube video capturing software.! Free if possible. Or is that too much to hope for these days..

So I close that down each time because I don't want to download another update for now. 2 - There may or may not be some extra programs to unselect during installation.

I recently installed Windows Service Pack 2, actually three times after reinstating my computer software to the original state by erasing and reinstalling the full software install CD on my computer's hard drive for Window XP Home. I have no problems playing games with my new FX 5200 Ultra video card by BFG, but I am at random times getting the annoying green screen that blanks out my videos I am streaming or playing(happens when I am streaming more often). Then after that happens usually, the computer reboots or shuts off. I never had this happen before. My computer's memory tests ok so why can I play games with this never happening but when I am streaming or watching video through Windows Media Player, etc do I get the "green screen blankout" and then often the shutdown of my computer? I have 512 MB of system memory and 128 MB of video memory! I use System Mechanic and it shows I have at least half of my memory even during playback so what is the problem here? I can attach my system computer file of my information if you like in an e-mail if it will help. AND YES I HAVE THE DIVX CODECS. I thought about that to and uninstalled and reinstalled them with the same random problems. PLEASE HELP ME. This is really annoying.

Its also got an advanced media player which can play any video u open it with like wmv, dat, mpg, rm, mov, avi, divx..... of course, the codecs for these formats r included in the pack.

I have a couple audio only talk shows I like which stream on a regular schedule on their web pages. I'm trying to find a utility/program where I can enter the URL where the audio will stream, the time of the stream (i.e., the day(s) of the week & time of day), and length of the program I want to capture. The utility would then go to that page at the specified time & capture the streaming audio, without me having to "tell it to", and without the program PLAYING on the PC while the capture is taking place. In other words, the utility does all this automatically once programmed, and totally in the background, allowing the PC to be used while the capture is happening. This seems so obvious, I'm amazed there aren't tons of such utilities, but I can't find one. Anyone know of such a thing? I know there are pay services for this, but obviously, I'd prefer FREE! Main goal is to end up with an mp3 or other audio file I can then edit & load onto my mp3 player.

A friend of mine has charged me with the task of capturing his son's college ball games.
I've tried three different capture programs, including Movavi Screen Capture, and
they all have one big flaw: the captured files are HUGE, approx 40-90 megs per minute.

Since his son is a relief pitcher, I only need to capture about 40-60 mins worth

Does anyone have an idea as to how I can capture decent quality video

Or is it just that I don't understand how to do it?

Thanks in advance for any and all help. Here are some quick details to set the stage for this help thread:

-Here are a few of my system specs:

Operating System: WinXP SP2
CPU Speed: Intel Pentium 4 2.00GHz
Harddrive space: 120GB & 40GB
RAM Memory: 1024 MBytes

Now, for my problem. I was recently able to capture some video (one hour and thirty minutes worth or so), but when I played it back on my computer, the first part of it seemed fine, I could hear it and see it (the video seemed to freeze a tiny bit though), but not too far into the video file the audio disapeared. I have since deleted that file, so I can't give specific details on that anymore.

Anyway, I am now trying to capture again, and nothing I use seems to be doing the job. Windows Moive Maker wont even load for me, it freezes and it's a pain in the butt to get it to shut down. I am trying to use WinDV right now, but I get an error that says "Error: Can't find DV output pin". I want to record a radio program that runs for three hours nightly, from midnight to 3:00A.M. on the internet. The program is the classics from the "Golden Age of Radio" that I hope to copy for a senior in the hospital.

The plan is to record it as a low resolution MP3 (32 or 64 bit), burn it to a cd that would be played on a discman.

I know I have to purchase a recording program such as Total Recorder or Super MP3 Recorder.

I have tried the trial version of TR that allows only 40 seconds. It is hard to determine how large the file size of the would be. The instructions seem to be slanted more to song recording length, not three hours.

Before I buy I would like any some advice. Has anyone done this? Are there any recomendations?
