I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

You need email encryption software like this: http://www.egress.com/email-encryption/

For the past 8 weeks, at least 4 secure sites from which I send emails are not receiving them.
These include the bank, library (where I can request or secure books for later) my ISP (!) and a government agency. Two of these have my Hotmail address registered, two have Gmail.

I investigated this myself (a little), trying to send an email from MsEdge, that didn't work either so I'm assuming it's not the browser at fault.

The library IT dept sent the message below which, as suggested, I forwarded to my ISP. I then spent a fruitless hour with a very patients techie who had no idea how to solve the problem. He suggested I try the Hotmail Fix-IT site - I already had, going through all the stages to no avail. He suggested I ask Microsoft what the problem is - I'd guess that's about as probable as getting Gates to come and fix the problem himself. I did look at a couple of MS forums but there... Read more

I have had the computer for 5 years only now has the following problems developed

1) I can not access secure web sites including the Windows update site. I have tried with both FireFox and IE 8. In both cases the message is wating for securesite.com and the loading fails due to timing out.

I have no problem accessing unsecured sites

2) At the same time my email server Thunderbird can only receive email but can not send. When attempting to send emails the message is connection to STMP server timed out.

I have tried the recommended fixes with no success

a) cleared SSL
b) checked clock
c) re-registered dll's
d) reset IE to defaults
e) changed ports
f) turned off firewall
g) changed wireless to Proset from Windows and back
h) did straight wired connection to router for internet
i) did a system restore to a time I was still getting and sending emails

I tried to preview post and it failed. Tried to post it failed had to borrow a computer to submit.

I am trying to make an secure POP3 (port 995) and secure IMAP (port 993) connection thru Verizon FIOS via the ActionTec MI424WR modem/router/802.11G box that Verizon supplied. I am running Vista, and I am using Outlook 2007, which is set to these ports.

I wanted to do this with the firewall set to the "Maximum Security (High)" setting.

These ports were not available in the ActionTec's pick list so I added these ports (using the "Advanced" tab and then under "Protocols") so they read "TCP any -> 993" and "TCP any -> 995"

I tried adding these ports to the "Access Control" table, and the "Port Forwarding" table and the "Advanced Filtering" table but none worked.

The Verizon Tech Support line worker told me the only solution was to enable the DMZ host and set it to be the IP address of the computer I happened to be on.

To my astonisment, with DMZ enabled, the "Access Control" rules seemed to kick in for the DMZ host and my secure POP3 would only work if I had this port allowed in the "Access Control" table.

Questions:
1. Is it safe to run with DMZ pointing to my computer.

I thought this effectively brought the "DMZ host" (i.e. my computer) outsied the firewall and exposed all the ports on my computer directly to the internet. (But if that were the case, then

Let me start by saying that lately my bank website, Norton Safesearch and even your website appear to have replaced their secure certificates with outdated or insufficient security. Usually in these cases the https in the address bar is crossed out or has a yellow          ! triangle. If you click on that triangle or crossed out space you will see a grey box that says "your connection to this site is not private". My connection is a private home network as opposed to public. It used to say "you have not visited this site before today" but that phrase is no longer there. Of course I've gone to these sites before. In the grey box there is a tab titled 'connections'. Click on that and it says '! The identity of this website has not been verified' and '! Your connection to www.xxxxxxx.com is not encrypted'. These sites normally have the green bar in the address bar indicating a secure connection. Clicking on the green bar will give you the same grey box, only this time it says "Your connection to this site is private" and it will tell you 'the identity of this site has been verified by [name of certificate]. Valid Certificate Transparency supplied by the server'. It will say 'your connection is encrypted using an obsolete cipher suite, or [...encrypted using a modern cipher suite]. Both are followed by specific connection and encryption information, i.e. TLS 1.2.

In my Home Office using my Notebook and wireless router I have WEP encryption with a Network security key. But I am often away on the road in Asia and I connect to both unsecured and WEP secured wireless networks in restaurants, hotels and internet cafes.

When I need to log in to certain web sites to attend to important personal info like bank accounts and credit cards and make payments etc I often avoid it for fear of this information being visible or accessible to others, even on the WEP secured ones.

I 'm wondering though, if it shows the connection as WEP secured in Manage Wireless Connections, does that mean things are secure or can other people using the same wireless pick up on what others around them are sending and receiving?

I guess what I am asking is, how can I know if a wireless connection is safe on the road and is there anything I can do to make it safe or safer? I suspect many others encounter this same issue.

Thanks,

hello, i used acronis true image and disk director suite and successfully cloned and backup disks many times. recently i installed pgp enterprise to secure the disk. as fate would have it i decided to increase the secure zone partition. the operating system on boot prompted for pgp password to decrypt the drive and then acronis loaded and i used the partition management option. the partition limit of secure zone was enhanced from 55 gb to 61 gb (limit being shown as 69gb). the three steps that appeared were C drive size being fixed from 55 gb to 45 gb, D drive (which was pgp secured) was shown to be going NO change and the third step was the Secure Zone expanding from 45 GB to 51 gb or so. when all the steps were done, the system booted. as always the first prompt was PGP secure disk, i entered the password but the second prompt for Acronis halted and Displayed a fatal error and asked to press enter to attempt to boot the OS. On pressing Enter the system booted and the OS was normal EXCEPT that the D drive was being shown as Raw (i.e. needed to formatted). On inspecting the D drive with Acronis disk manager the three partitions were visible the C and Secure zone with the newly allocated disk space but the D was being shown as RAW Although the D disk size was being shown as before, i.e. 45 GB. All assets are resided in the D drive. Please advise how to recover or restore the partitions.

Secure computers aren't so secure.

Even well-defended computers can leak shocking amounts of private data. MIT researchers seek out exotic attacks in order to shut them down.

The encryption system that Tromer was attacking, called AES, was particularly vulnerable because it used tables of precalculated values as a computational short cut, so that encoding and decoding messages wouldn’t be prohibitively time consuming. Since Tromer and his colleagues published their results, Intel has added hardware support for AES to its chips, so that Internet encryption software won’t have to rely on such “lookup tables.”

In a statement, Intel told the MIT News Office that its decision “was mainly motivated by the performance/efficiency benefits achieved,” but that “in addition, there is a potential security benefit since these new instructions can mitigate the possibility of software side channel attacks on AES that have been described in research papers, including those discovered by Tromer, Percival, and Bernstein.”Click to expand...

Ok, now how old is my chip and does it have the Intel hardware support for AES? Gulp!

-- Tom

P.S. I will try to find out which chip series have the hardware support for AES and post it here - but, if you find out before I do, please do not hesitate to post the information yourself. Is it time to get a new motherboard already, or will my current motherboard be able to accept the chips with AES hardware support?

Hi Adams369 If you are using Google Chrome 42, this is normal. Starting in version 42, Google Chrome starts tagging as "insecure" websites that uses SHA-1 algorithm encryption for their certificates, in order to move them to a more secure one since SHA-1 is old and deprecated (less secure). If you want, I created a thread on that yesterday where I show how to get these certificates information on a website, so you can verify yourself. My Sent Items and Inbox folders became filled with emails on Tuesday and I was unable to send or receive emails until I removed several thousand old emails from both folders (which I did, then the system was running fine again as of late Tuesday). I discovered this problem when I attempted to send 3 emails with attachments, making the emails around 5 megabytes each in size (I did not realize that the recipient's system could not handle any email more than 2 megabytes - thus, my Outlook Express kept trying to send these emails every 1 minute for 3 hours until I discovered the problem). I had to delete around 100 email notifications that the recipient could not receive emails at that size and that my email boxes were full.

I corrected these problems and relocated the emails from my Outlook Box to Drafts (until the recipient can change his settings).

All day Wednesday (yesterday) I was able to send & receive emails without a problem. This morning I was sending & recieving as well, then all of a sudden, I was unable to receive any emails. Hi rherrygers

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Have you attempted to logon to your ISP's mail server to see what messages are still on the mail server along with determining the size of the messages?
Outlook Express may be timing out trying to download a message that is larger than normal.
Did you also send yourself a copy of the message with the attachment?

Can you post the exact error message please?
If the Send/Receive window is not appearing, you can make it appear by double clicking the area marked in red here:
When the Send/Receive window appears, click the Errors tab, right click on the error message and select Copy and paste the error message here.

SO I check my work email on my blackberry and receive messages there and also on my Outlook Web Access. However, the issue is that when I am looking at the email panel on my Blackberry (not opening the unread emails), it shows the the emails are marked as 'read' on Outlook even though I never actually opened them on the BB. I know it is not Outlook causing this because the settings are marked for "Do not automatically mark items as Read" setting.

How do I solve this situation? I am missing important emails since I get dozens every day, and I can't keep track of them if they are all marked as Read

Help please?

MS Office Outlook sending emails but no emails to send? I have added a few new accounts to my outlook and have had nothing but problems since. It is important that I keep these emails in my outlook, because I work from home and need to access these accounts. I have recently noticed, whenever I hit send receive, the number rises everyday, which now has me concerned. Each account has a different amount "sending", but nothing is in the outbox. IE: account A: sending 1 of 135, Account B: sending 1 of 1020 and so on. I also read online somewhere that if I was a torrent user, that "is" my problem, but I have stopped using it for weeks and there is no traffic going in or out, and I've turned the program off completely.

I've used Outlook for years, with many accounts and have never had problems. I've noticed more problems since this 'sending' message has started. I also noticed, I was the ONLY one at work not getting any SPAM for at least 2 yrs, UNTIL, I took a few days off, went back to work and BAM, hit with SPAM. Its a bloody nuisance because my accounts are linked with "rules and alerts", so if one is infected, all others follow behind! Has one or all of my accounts been compromised? If so, can it be fixed?

What should happen if the computer asks for the  OE to be compacted? where does it send the compact?

I am having to go through the recycle bin line by line to see what I can safely completely delete but also when I try to restore an item it seems to  make a duplicate in the recycle bin !!

I can still read the emails in OE but where should the compacted emails  actually be saved? And how if at all can I get this corrected?

rdubayah,
If your computer was running WIndows 10 without any issues prior to downloading the Anniversary update, then you would not have had to change any settings in the bios to install the update. The UEFI and Secure Boot settings are to enable booting with a USB or DVD to install Windows.
Disable Legacy Boot Mode and Enable UEFI
Start the computer and TAP the F2 key to enter the bios. Once in the bios Press F9 to Restore the bios to the Default Settings. F10 to save changes and exit. You could have a hardware problem. To run a hardare diagnostics on the computer you would start the computer and TAP the F5 key. Insert a cd/dvd in the optical drive for running the diags.

Hi All,

Thanks for reading. I have a web based email which is a 123 webmail one. Up until late last week I was receiving emails no problem since then I have had nothing. It's not that I am unpopular.

I have narrowed the problem down to... I can receive emails sent from Google, Yahoo and Hotmail emails. But whenever an email is sent through outlook this outlook email not only does not arrive but it deletes everything else in my inbox.

My head is about to explode with frustration. I don't know what to do or how to solve this.

Looking for inspiration from anywhere.

A:Emails sent from outlook making other emails disappear

Hi and welcome to TSG.

Not sure why mail being sent through Outlook is not actually being sent. Does it report any errors when sending? Are the messages shown as being sent?

If you are having Outlook check for new incoming e-mails on your email account(s), it may be downloading them to your computer and then deleting them from the server. There should be an advanced options setting in Outlook to have it leave incoming messages on the server.

Hello,

I am wondering how to setup an e-mail account in cPanel which will only allow that e-mail to be sent to local e-mail addresses on the same server. For example:

[email protected] can only send to any other e-mail address at @domain.com that is currently setup on the server. [email protected] can not send e-mails to [email protected] for example.

Is there an easy way to do this? And if so- how would I go about setting this up? (Note: I have both WHM and cPanel access).

Thanks in advance!

The Web site you are viewing is a secure site. It uses a security protocol such as SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) or PCT (Private Communications Technology) to secure the information you send and receive.
When sites use a security protocol, information that you provide, such as your name or credit-card number, is encrypted so that other people can’t read it. However, this Web page also contains items that do not use this secure protocol.
Given what you know about this Web site and your computer, you must decide whether to continue working with this site.

also she was stating that she was getting a weak signal now i believe that is more than likely because she was either close to the 300 feet or beyond it. true not true ???

A:wireless secure not secure

I assume you are referring to Wireless encryption. That would be dependent on who is providing the Wireless access. If they are using WEP or WPA, they would have to tell her what the Wireless key is to access their wireless network.

When I go to the Crucial website the browser URL bar says "Not Secure". Could a few of you go there and see if you get that as well on your browser. Would be much appreciated. I don't want to purchase RAM or SSD from them if they are not a Secure site. I guess to be safe I can order by phone but it seems strange that they would not have an HTTPS secure site. I have tried it on 5 PCs and both Chrome and Edge browsers but all say Not Secure.

A:Secure or Not Secure site...

The homepage at www.crucial.com was not secure and neither were any search result pages. However, adding an item to the shopping cart and going to my shopping cart did switch to a secure https connection. I did not try going any further to see if the checkout stayed on a secured connection.

About a month ago we got a new toshiba laptop with norton already preinstalled on it. One month free trial. Well, the month is up, and I would like to put something on there. Our ISP is shaw, and they are providing their shawsecure AV program free. Just wondering if that would be a good idea, or would some other program be better. I used to have Avira on my desktop, and that thing was continually asking me questions about what I wanted to do with this that and the other. Sandbox this, sandbox that..aaaahhhh I DON'T KNOW.

I so totally don't know about these things. I just know that It's supposed to keep threats away...and that's about it. If an AV is going to keep asking me all kinds of questions, I could be on here for hours, just checking out on google every single blasted question. I basically want my protection to do its job and leave me the heck alone. One friend says put the shaw on, they have it, its great, another one says use MS essentials, its great, another says MS defender..you got it...it's great.

I had AVG on my computer a few years ago, and for us, it sucked. Viruses galore.

I want something small and easy. The website for the shaw one is...shawsecure.ca so you can see what it says. If I'm not mistaken today is my last day for the Norton AV. The kids use the laptop for music, videos, youtube, facebook, game sites..if that's any help in the final decision. If the shaw seems ok, great.

Thanx for your help

Honey

any advise/help would be greatly appreciated as my business runs mainly through emails.

I have a big list of email addresses in both .csv and .doc format. I want to send out a one time email advertising my business. It would take an eternity to manually send these out. And preferably I'd like to send one email per address without having a bunch of CC addresses because that will cause it to get flagged as spam.

Any suggestions?

If I understand you correctly, then I think you need to create a new folder and then tell Rules Wizard to put those e-mails into that folder and mark them as Unread.

We all have friends who forward emails they have received from others and sometimes they can be a nuisance but other friends don't do it so often that it is annoying and they seem to find very interesting "things" and you would like to continue to open them BUT how can you tell if the email is a result of a hacked "infected" version? I'd like to know what you think of this...

Instead of just forwarding another email you put some text in it to identify it as coming from you (NOT in the subject). Like the following "Hi guys thought you'd like to see another Smith's find" (insert your own last name or a nickname your friends know is really you).

You might even send an email around telling your friends that you are identifying forwarded emails by "Don's favorites" BUT don't use it in the subject line.

Microsoft has been attempting to patch a serious Secure Boot vulnerability that can be exploited to bypass the security feature and install rootkits and bootkits on Windows devices. Researchers believe the security flaw cannot be fully patched.

-

On systems where Secure Boot is locked down and cannot be disabled (e.g. Windows RT, HoloLens, Windows Phone), configuration changes can be made using policies, signed files loaded by the boot manager (bootmgr) from a UEFI variable. There are some boot loader executables (EFI files) signed by Microsoft that can be used to provision such policies.

Before loading a policy, bootmgr checks it to make sure it?s valid. However, researchers discovered that Microsoft introduced a new type of Secure Boot policy during the development of Windows 10 Anniversary Update (v1607) that can be abused to bypass the security feature.

I was asked to give additional info on my problem. I am using windows 7 on internet explorer. We are connected with at&t for the internet. The computer is a 4 month old Dell Inspiron 660 with i5 processor. I recently had a trojan horse that totally messed up my computer so badly that I brought it to a computer repair shop and had windows reloaded. The computer is working fine now. Before the trojan horse I was using Office 2003 and doing all my emails from outlook. When windows was reloaded I uploaded the same Office 2003. I configured emails to go to outlook but for the life of me outgoing emails are getting stuck in the outbox. I can go over to google gmail and both send and receive emails (I just like the outlook setup). There is alot of info on the internet on how to change your emails over to outlook. I am currently using IMAP. I also tried it with POP3 but no matter what I do outgoing emails go to the outbox. I feel the system is configured correctly. I get a message that the info I put in is correct. I have no problem receiving emails on outlook.

What can I do to be able to send emails out using outlook 2003? I can send an email out on google gmail so I don't have a problem with the internet connection. Thanks for your input!!

A:Solved: outgoing emails stuck in outlook 2003. Emails getting stuck in outbox

In almost all cases, it's just a matter of the settings not being correct, maybe the SMTP port number is incorrect or authentication needs to be turned on.

Also, if you had messages already waiting in the Outbox before changing any settings, you should delete those and try sending a new message.

Here's the AT&T settings: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401570&cv=801&_requestid=334567#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_

And the configuration steps: http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB401573#fbid=Yg-D7qm9g7_
It's pretty close for Outlook 2003.

The question really says all about what I want to do, or need help on. I recently signed up for a new outlook account to try out the new outlook preview and I've set up gmail to automatically forward new messages to my outlook account so that I can use outlook to manage my gmail account.

Do any of you know how I would be able to forward the old messages, and not the new ones, to my outlook? I already know that they can be fetched into outlook by outlook's very own service, forwarding would be faster, so..?! Also, since I now use outlook to send email on behalf of my gmail account, how do I make it sync each email I send using outlook with my gmail - so that gmail has it all?

TY in advance. Please do help.

Hi,

I've got a problem. A few mins after I connect to the internet I get this popup window that goes to this address: http://planet.nana.co.il/l337/lc.html
I've also got this file called secure.exe that starts running about the same time and a file called v3.exe shows up in C.
Then I get a popup of a file called gamma.html and it tries to install some kind of porn toolbar.

I keep deleting secure.exe, v3.exe and gamma.html from C but they keep coming back. I've done scans with Adaware and the Bazooka Scanner but they can't get rid of it. My antivirus is updated but it doesn't find anything either.

Any help would be wonderful... I'm going insane here.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order it is mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes. You should not have any open browsers when you are following the procedures below.

You have an outdated version of HijackThis. Click here to get the latest version of HijackThis.

Go to My Computer->Tools/View->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that 'Show hidden files and folders' (or 'Show all files') is enabled.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download Index.dat Suite to clean out all the temp folders. Do not run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up).

Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be - but double check it):

C:\WINNT\System32\crsss.exe
C:\secure.exe

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

What antivirus do you run?

Have you thought about running an ADDITIONAL AntiSpyware utility?

At work, where I'm the IT Tech, we are required to run one additional AntiSpyware utility, additional to our Symantec Enterprise AntiVirus.

I highly suggest SpyBot Search & Destroy (donationware).

Is F-Secure better than AVG or is there another AV software package I should install?

Q: $Secure

Did anyone ever determine a definitive answer to the "$Secure file corrupted" error message? I haven't seen anything on any of the web postings.
BTW- XP Pro SP2 (Sp3 won't load) and IE6 and NO Norton. My laptop doesn't have this problem, but I recently had to go back to my Desktop and it DOES have the $Secure problem. Ran the Recovery procedures from the XP install disk (chkdsk /r) with no solution.

Hi Broot,

It sound pretty good, but you might consider adding one or more other anti-spyware/adware program than Windows Defender. Spybot Search & Destroy is a good free one. You can find that program and some others here.

Hope this helps,
