IE Browser and applications slow down then completely stop responding.

Q: IE Browser and applications slow down then completely stop responding.

I am running with Windows XP. My IE browser and applications such as Itune or Piccassa slow down and then they completely hang up. Everything works again when I reboot, but then it slows down and hangs again.

Thank you for looking into this problem.

Elie.

Preferred Solution: IE Browser and applications slow down then completely stop responding.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi, I've been having a rather difficult problem recently, my computer start-up has been taking much longer, and sometimes my applications will stop working completely resulting in having to reboot the computer.

As of yet I have used Malwarebytes and removed Search Project.

I've tried an SFC /scannow as well as CHKDSK /R. Now here's the weird part.
When I try to do an SFC scan, wheneveri get to 15% my computer will stop responding.
The same thing happens with chkdsk at 20%.

Whenever I try to login to Steam on my account my computer will stop responding.

I've tried defragmenting my SSD and my computer stopped working, when I rebooted it, windows started a disk repair and said the problem couldn't be resolved, since I couldn't use my mouse or keyboard I had to reboot again. No trace of the repair again, my computer still works but the problem persists.

I'm at a complete loss as to what is happening. If anyone can resolve this I'd appreciate it.
Thanks in advance. -Dundy

Never Defragment an SSD

When a traditional hard disk with spinning platters and moving heads needs to read a (very large) file, it can do so much faster if the file is stored in an unbroken sequence of blocks on the drive. If different pieces of the file are spread around the drive, the hard disk?s heads need to physically move between those pieces. The time it takes is indicated as the seek time in drive specifications.

Defragmentation software rearranges all the files on the drive so they are all stored in unbroken sequences. In Windows you can find it under Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Disk Defragmenter. Defragmenting mechanical hard disks is a good idea. It?ll noticably speed up your PC if your system drive is a heavily fragmented hard disk. Hard disks are the slowest component in modern PCs. They can use all the help they can get. (That?s also the reason why it makes a lot of sense to replace your system drive with an SSD.) Because defragmentation is so helpful, Windows actually does it automatically when your PC is idle. You may have noticed the HDD drive light on your PC flickering furiously when coming back from lunch, only to stop instantly as you touch the mouse.

Defragmenting an SSD is a terrible idea, for several reasons:

The key benefit to SSDs is that they have virtually no seek time. Reading adjacent blocks of data is no faster than reading blocks that are spread out over the drive. Fragmentat... Read more

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.

The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.

Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, so here is what has gone down so far:

I had Windows Home Premium x64, and decided that I wanted to go back to factory settings. I used Dell Datasafe to revert to factory settings but it froze (I let it sit for 24 hours just to make sure) and I had to turn it off. It wouldn't boot up after that past the Windows animation, so I tried to install Windows Ultimate x64 over it. That worked as far as I can tell, but now it is extremely slow and all my applications say (not responding) whenever I try to use them.

If anyone knows what I can do to troubleshoot or fix this, that would just make my day.

A few things I tried already:
- Used a clean boot, still extremely slow, takes about 10 minutes just to get to the login screen
- Tried safe mode, still extremely slow, and applications still doing the same thing.
- Tried safe mode, ran slow until I deleted my system.old. It ran fast for the remaining time I was on it, but when I went back to normal startup it slowed back down. I will try safemode again to make sure that wasn't just a spurt of luck.

**I will troubleshoot and update as I go along**
Thanks in advance,
moneybagman

A:Computer running slow; All applications (not responding)

Perhaps someone else will jump in with a better suggestion, but I'd recommend doing another clean install of the Ultimate x64. I think this will be a faster approach (even if you have to reinstall updates, programs etc) than tying to troubleshoot the issue. This tutorial may provide a clue if (for example) a step was missed during the original install.

Clean Install Windows 7

If you used an Ultimate upgrade disk follow this tutorial:

A few weeks ago I had trouble with my sound on web applications like at youtube.com and with things like iTunes. I would restart my comp to get sound back and when it restarted it gave me an error message about needing to shut down a program or process in the interest of protecting my computer. It said it would automatically shut down "generic host process for win32 services". When it gave me this error at start up I could use youtube and iTunes for awhile again before the sound stopped working. I checked these forums for previous posts about this type of problem and found that most had something to do with newly installed hardware like a printer or copier. I have not installed anything like this in about a year or so. I uninstalled two games i had installed recently and uninstalled AVG virus scanner only to install Avast virus scanner a day later to see if that would work. I also ran a spyware check and got rid of a few things it found and thought I had fixed my problem, but within hours of when I installed avast most of the programs i tried to open would stop responding if the computer had to "think" too hard. World of Warcraft and Civilization, two pretty intense games to run, have had no troubles running aside from the initial opening of the games being slower than normal.

This leads us to my current symptoms: If I open internet Explorer (a browser I don't normally use) it opens two windows, neither with any content and immediately stops responding.... Read more

A:Slow Slow Slow Browser, Applications Failing

How long has it been since Windows was installed? Have you done any regular file maintenance, like deleting old files you don't need anymore, deleting temp files, uninstalling programs you don't use anymore, deleting months-old system restore points, etc, and then running scandisk, and lastly, running defrag? Maybe it's not a virus. You may just be running out of room on your hdd.

So i have this toshiba satelite laptop for exactly 2 years this week. 10 days ago, i tried to install microsoft net framework 4. i installed it and got these update to go along with it. I updated my comp and it asked me to restart so i did. Next day, i got the same update and it was taking forever to install while i was shutting down my computer so i manually powered off because i was going to sleep. Next morning my computer's screen goes blank and i can't even go to boot screen.

So 3 days ago, i took it to a ship after numerous attempt by myself to try and fix it by reading online forums and found a lot of people had this problem. The ITS who fixed my laptop charged me $100 and told me it was due to overheating that caused my motherboard to go haywire. 1st day i got it back, everything was somewhat smooth. Next day i tried to install the MS Net framework 4 again but this time i got the 64 bit installer since i figure it must be the wrong installer i used last time. After i installed the update, my computer starts to become extremely slow and lags whenever i start up. Eventually it leads to freezing of the computer which took hours that leads me to power off manually and restarting. Last night i factory reset my laptop thinking it might fix the whole freezing and the stop responding problem. For the 1st 30 min everything was good and i could multi task with 2 browser and installing multiple things. After that it started to freeze again and i got the BSOD.

Hi there,my name is Marius and I will assist you with your malware related problems. Before we move on, please read the following points carefully.First, read my instructions completely. If there is anything that you do not understand kindly ask before proceeding.Perform everything in the correct order. This would change the output of our tools and could be confusing for me.Post all logfiles as a reply rather than as an attachment unless I specifically ask you. I found a couple of nuissance items with Spybot and cleaned them off but it did not fix the problem. Something is eating up resources and making the machine slow and non-responsive. Memory is at 63% usage, hard drive runs nearly non-stop and CPU constantly bounces between 20% and 90% usage with no applications running.

Below is the HiJackThis log file, please help me get this thing cleaned up and back to running normal.

Having some very odd behavior on my computer. Programs are slow to respond and sometimes stop responding for several seconds. There's also a little hiccup effect that makes everything stop responding (even the cursor stalls) for about half a second ~every 5 seconds. This seems to correspond to little jumps (usually between 5% and 20%) in CPU usage that show up in the Performance tab of Task Manager.

I have the HJT log and the DDS logs, but I don't have a GMER log because it seems that I can't get through a GMER scan without bluescreening and autorebooting. The bluescreen refers to nvstor.sys. Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi everyone. I did something very foolish which was installing a program which I knew nothing about on my laptop. Unfortunately, that program was iLivid. My computer has now been infected. My browser has been hijacked (redirecting to a weird search engine), my applications I need for work cannot be opened (Adobe Lightroom 3.4) and my computer is noticeably slower than usual. After researching about iLivid malware on the net, I have come to realize that this virus is far beyond my skills of tech know how. I greatly need the help of the tech wizards of this forum to solve my problem. Could any kind soul please aid me? I will be forever grateful to whoever does. This may be a bit of a challenge, but I am trying to help my parents fix their computer remotely. All I know is that apparently the computer started running very slow 2 days ago, and they can't do much of anything.

I have TeamViewer installed to help them with issues from time to time, and I have spent close to 3 hours on this now.

Computer is a Toshiba laptop with AMD E-300 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics 1.30GHz, 1024KB Level 2 cache / 2GB RAM (I swear it had 4GB, but is showing only 2GB) and a 300GB HDD. Running Win 8.1 64Bit.

In any event, I have run a full virus scan (Viper) and a full scan with Malwarebytes and neither detected anything.

However, I can barely get around on the computer. If I open chrome, I get the page crash error, or it just loads ultra slow and I get a "not responding" message.

I attempted to get into msconfig.exe which took an enormous amount of time (like 4 minutes) and once I did, I looked at what was starting up at start up. Nothing unusual there.

I attempted to do a scan on the hard drive, and it said I didn't need to do one as Windows detected the drive as ok. I ran one anyway, and after 10 minutes or so it told me Windows couldn't determine a problem, and a full scan was needed. I passed on doing that for now as it will want to reboot, and scan before any remote software can load where I will be able to monitor it.

Even getting into task manager was a major challenge. Once I did get ... Read more

A:Windows 8.1 64bit running incredibly slow and programs stop responding

I do a lot of work remotely be it via RA or TeamViewer for  clients & others.  Sometimes there is a limitation on what can be done remotely.  Anyway, that said...
1. I advise, initially the RAM should be checked, even swapped out w/ new.  It would be silly for a 64-bit machine to have less the 4GB RAM since an x86 can't/doesn't use more than about 3-3.5GB, x64 will.
2. Is the HDD making any unusual noises.
3. How much free space is on the drive.
4. What events  or activity was there 2 days ago?
5. Do a System Restore.
6. If #5 changes nothing, put it back to Factory.
7. If #6 changes nothing then it is, indeed, a hardware issue.
8. How old is the laptop?
Cheers,Drew

Hello there,

Immediately after boot-up any and all applications I get to open become almost immediately non-responsive. This started occurring when I was forced to hard shut down a few weeks ago during system updates that were just not proceeding. I found an expired thread with some inconclusive suggestions at this url: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-7/1108387-system-extremely-slow-everything-not.html

As mentioned in the given thread, my task manager also displays adobearm.exe and seems to run better if I end the task immediately after start up. However, "better", is marginal as it is still cripplingly slow.

Also, it's likely irrelevant but this is the first time I've noticed tasks followed by *32 in task manager and also the first time I've noticed a button at the bottom left of Task Manager with the blue and yellow update shield saying, "Show Processes From All Users".

I'm currently in the process of backing up my files.

Please help! Thanks so much for your time. It's very much appreciated.

A:All Applications "Not Responding" and System Extremely Slow

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.

Information about your computer will appear.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

-------------------------------------------------------

Do the following ONLY if your computer is running the 32-bit version and NOT the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

Go here and click the large green "Download" button to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.5 (HijackThis.exe) to your desktop.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click it and allow its main window to load.

Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".

Click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in 30 - 60 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE log file here.

Note: Windows Vista users and Windows 7 users may get a "hosts file" or similar message when trying to use HiJackThis.

If you do get that message, do the following before using it:

Go to Control Panel - User Accounts.

Turn off or disable the User Account control(UAC) feature.

Apply the change, then restart the computer.

We started noticing trouble in our internet browser Google Chrome. Gmail would not respond at all and YouTube would drag loading videos. We have two computers in our home and the other computer works just fine with gmail and youtubes videos so we believe our internet connection is stable. I uninstalled Chrome and re-installed it but got same results. Also, internet explorer was having the same issues. Now, the entire computer system is running slow as if there is computer issues not browser issues.

Ran MS Security Essentials scans but no problems. Malware Bytes full version runs on our computer and no detected problems. Ran CCleanup but no detected problems but did remove alot of junk.

We are at a loss on how to proceed. We have had very good success in the past using Tech Guy support so we thought we would reach out for help.

Thanks!!

I have replaced an ATI Radeon video card with an NVIDIA.

I have uninstalled the Catalyst Control Center (only thing listed in the uninstall programs). After reboot I'm still getting warning about the Catalyst Control Center not being able to start and another AMD warning.

I ran CCCleaner and removed all the AMD/ATI registry entries it found, rebooted but still getting the warning.

Short of manually editing the registry to get rid of what is left, and also removing any left over files, is there another "cleaner" program that will get rid of what is left? There is nothing in Startup. If I Right click on the desktop the Catalyst Control Center is still in the dropdown menu.

this is to reboot. After checking the event log all the errors have been the same. After a quick test, an extension of Autodesk Inventor 2017 called mesh enabler crashes the pc when i click on the part inside autodesk. I timed it. From clicking on the part
at 23:37 which froze the pc, until 23:38 where i hard rebooted the pc. The event log gave the time stamp of 23:39, and that was when i was brought to my desktop.

Hello

Recently for the last week or so, i keep getting problems with my PC freezing up and not responding.

It happens for about 20 seconds, and usually only in the first hour or so of having turning my PC on. After the PC has been running for a while its perfectly fine.

I have NOD32, Anti MalwareBytes, Microsoft Security Essentials all run a scan and they found nothing. Spybot found nothing.

During these random freezes/not responding... the peak CPU/Memory is still less than 20%/20%. So i don't think its an application causing it.

What else can i do to dissect this problem and find the cause?

A:Applications not responding

Having more than one anti virus program on your computer at on time can and will cause this type of problem and maybe more.
NOD34 and MSE are both anti virus programs.

Hi guys!

I'm having problems with system for a few days and I wanted to ask you for help: the problem is that when i run Skype or something with flash (firefox, when I go to youtube or FB), the applications stop responding (foobar and WMP start crashing, VLC just doesn't respond when i want to play a movie...). At first I thought it was skype that caused the problems, but the system also stoped when I visited youtube. The only solution is restarting the system and not visiting the website/starting the skype. I've also tried this, but it didn't help:

reverted back adobe flash plugin from 11.4. to 11.3.
changed web browser
installed latest skype beta
completely uninstalled skype with revo uninstaller and reinstalled back skype
installed trilian (it connects to skype, but it doesn't send any messages).
OS: Win7 SP1, x86
Laptop: HP 4510s

I don't know if this will help, but it all started when i moved into a new flat (when I was at home, I didn't have any problems).

Hi,

I reformatted my computer today and am unable to run alot of Applications such as IE 6/7, Messenger, and I've also had trouble running some installers.

Whenever I run these it just goes straight to the Error Report screen.

So I had to put a firefox installer on USB to get online.

So far I have installed:
Motherboard Drivers
Microsoft Office 2000
Some 'Express Gate' that came with my motherboard
Avast Home Edition
Windows Live

Incase you're in need of knowing this, my PC specs are:
AMD Quad Core Phenom
4GB Corshair Ram
M3N78 PRO Motherboard

Before I Reformatted my PC was running fine and had no errors, so I would imagine it's nothing to do with hardware.

Anyway, hope someone has an idea of what's wrong.

I'm having some issues on my Win7 laptop with programs hanging often, especially after been using computer for a few hours. It seems to involve my web browser mainly, but but sometimes other programs also.

I've been monitoring system performance stats for a few months now, and here's the basic summary of that:
- cpu is fine (usu well below 50%)
- memory seems ok (esp now that i've taken care of browser memory leaks, via a memory optimizing program; ram was often getting down to ~5-10MB free, now is staying at ~400-500MB free (of 2GB ram))
- disk i/o is poor (this i think is the reason for the regular hangs; when i view the resource monitor it often shows 1-10MB/sec disk i/o, & response times up to ~750ms, & the #files with disk i/o up to ~1000 worst case)

My pagefile is 7GB, with usu 2-3GB free, but has been known to run completely out (getting system low virtual memory error, which is why i increased it to 7GB). But it seems that there's WAY too much paging going on much of the time (?)

I am a novice when it comes to fixing the computer and nervous of doing something fatal! What do you suggest is the issue here and what should i do to resolve it?

Hello Ummpeter and welcome to Seven Forums.

I've asked the Forum Admin to start a new thread for your issue. That way more people will have a chance to read it and offer suggestions.

I am typing this on another computer as my own computer is unable to access the internet due to the web browsers not functioning.

When clicking on the shortcut for my default browser, Opera, I am informed that the Shortcut is missing. i.e. "Windows is searching for Opera.exe. To locate the file yourself, click Browse."

I can locate Opera.exe manually by navigating to the D drive. When I double click Opera.exe I am presented with a window stating that "Opera needs to restart."

I have cut and pasted the error report at the end of this message (file size >512 kb).

When I try to open up Internet Explorer and/or Safari, I also receive error messages. These are cut and pasted at the end of this message.

When I try to open up word docs, I am told that the "feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available." Unfortunately this disk was not supplied at purchase. I am not sure if this issue is connected to the previously discussed browser problems.

I am going mad as I need to access the internet etc. for my work. I suspect my son has something to do with the problems as everything worked fine until he was playing around on the laptop. He is OS so I am unable to contact him at the moment and would really appreciate any help/advice.

How many partitions do you have set up?

What version of IE is installed?

Two days ago everything worked fine but now when I click to start an installed game, it takes me to a black screen with a swirling cursor in the middle and I have to use the task manager to close the screen and get use of the cursor again. I would take this to the game forum except that when I am in AOL or IE8 just clicking on some item causing the current window to lighten up as if it had a film of white over it and I get a Not Responding message to the right of the program name in the window title bar. I lose all control of the cursor and cannot go anywhere except to controlaltdel to get out of the program. The only change I have made recently was my desktop icon names were fuzzy so I tried to sharpen them. But I don't know what else I could have done. Please help.

How did you post in this forum?

Do the programs crash before, during, or after you run the game?

Try holding alt, then hit tab, while you are in the game next time. That should minimise it more safely.

I use office 2000, when i try to open word for example, the blue title bar appears and nothing else, it just sits there, when i hit control, alt delete, it says the program is not responding, when i hit end now, nothing happens, after i do that for about 3 or 4 times, if says something about a debugger, I try to shut down the computer and it just keeps saying saving settings and never goes any further, I've tried to repair office but at the end when I say reinstall, and click finish is just freezes. can anyone help.

A:Office applications not responding

1. Run a full virus scan.
2. Clean up the hard drive: www.theofficeexperts.com/cleanyourpc.htm
3. Run Repair on Office from the Control Panel (have your install disks ready).

Wasn't sure if this was the right part of the forum to post in, but I figure someone will have the answer. Just recently after rebooting my computer, every application that I have has been getting short, random periods where it doesn't respond. It makes games nearly impossible to play as you never know when the game might seize up and you might lose. Even as I type this now, my browser is pausing and telling me its Not-Responding, and then a few seconds later goes back to normal. Im scanning right now with McAfee, Malwarebytes, and I'm thinking Norton too if nothing still comes up. What do you guys need to see to be able to help me fix this?
Thanks in advance,
Algorn120

Hey guys,

My computer is becoming extremely sluggish and slow, and parts of the interface don't respond at all at times. It has only just happened after I installed CS3 on my computer, although now I have uninstalled this and it appears to have had absolutely no effect whatsoever.

As an example of the freezing, sometimes the taskbar is visible but does not respond, but the program that I am focused on before it freezes still works fine - although maybe a little slower than normal, or maybe that's just me.

Only a week or so ago I sent my computer in for a health check at a PC place near me which is seriously good, and all they could find wrong with it was that the fan in my GFX card was seizing and causing crashes. Since then I have reinstalled Windows XP, and also installed a new ATI Radeon 9500 and drivers.

Other than that, I can't think of anything other than CS3 that may be doing this. The only programs I have installed recently are CS3 (including Bridge etc), and MagicISO.

I've looked in the registry for anything suspicious booting up at startup, but nothing appears suspicious - I know what everything is, and they all appear to be completely legitimate programs.

I'm considering re-installing Windows a bit later tonight unless someone comes up with an answer.

Whilst I'm here, this is nearly as important as the above, does anyone know how to change the default Program Files directory? Thanks.

Hey, I'm running a Compaq Presario 6000 with XP. Been having trouble with my drives. My DVD drive and floppy drive don't seem to work at all and haven't for awhile. Haven't worried about it too much since info can be transferred with Flash Drvies and CD's now. Of course, now the CD-ROM drive and USB drives don't seem to respond completely.

And that's what the strange thing is. I put a CD-ROM game in my drive and it loaded up the start up screen which includes different options, like "Play", "Uninstall" "Quit" , etc..., so I hit play. Then, any noise the CD drive makes dies down and then I get a message saying "Please insert TP2001(that's the game) disk". Of course it's already in there. The drive seems to recognize it enough to show the start up menu, but not the actual game.

Then there's the USB. I have an iPod. It connects to the computer and iTunes using a USB cable. When plugged in, the iPod should charge and iTunes should automatically start. Well, it charges, but it won't interact with iTunes at all.

Really strange, or at least it is to me! On a sad side note I can't even open up the case on my computer! It's a side panel and it seems to want to slide towards the rear, but that hasn't been successful. I'm assuming I'll have to have access to the inside if my drives are going to work again!

A:Drvies not responding to programs completely

Any ideas?

hello,

here is my problem:

I used to have a Sony Vaio laptop but it started not responding and freezing all the time...I ran a virus scan but everything came back clean. I tried to restore it to previous configurations or to restore it to factory settings and reinstall everything, but it wouldn't let me do it. The computer was old, so I thought it was just going out on me and bought a new laptop (HP).
I used a data cable so that the new laptop had the same data and configuration of the old one and everything seemed to work fine until yesterday, when the new laptop started having the same problems as the old one.
when I use firefox, it takes forever to load a page and the application is often not responding. I tried to use explorer instead, but with the same results.
Also when I try to use other applications, they freeze and start not responding as well.

I ran a virus scan with Avira antivirus (the free one) and it showed I had java/ddr.agent and 3 hidden objects.
It quarantined java/ddr.agent, but it didn't do anything with the hidden objects (I don't even know what they are).

Since it quarantined that .agent, it seemed to work better, until I used firefox again and everything (every application I open) started freezing and taking forever to open.

I tried restoring it to a previous configuration, but it's telling me that there isn't a restore point set, even if I remember setting one previously.

I read online that a lot of people had this problem wi... Read more

Problem is only with opening applications in Windows 10. I made clean install on a fresh formatted disk month ago.

It can be still ram or hdd issue or just windows broke? But CrystalDiskInfo and HDTUNE showing disk is 100% ok and memtest86 no errors.

Hi,
Welcome to the forums, you could try running sfc /scannow( at least 3 times), if that doesn't help, use the second tutorial to repair with DISM command, if the results report "no errors were found", don't worry and just ignore them. Hope that helps.

When using any application, for example google chrome or minecraft, my computer seems to constantly be refreshing the application for some reason. When I click on the application task manager says that the program is unresponsive, but after the click is registered the program returns to normal. Also for some reason when this happens, in the task bar, icons for the application seem to keep being created over and over again but then disappearing. Please watch the video for a better explanation. Does anybody know what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks in advance, Barkerclan

Hey IT pros!

Get the BSOD followed by "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER"

I've been having these random crashes for quite a while now, as you can already tell by the sheer number of dumpfiles. The latest crash being the straw that broke the camels back. My drivers for the software that matters are up to date. From the little research I've conducted through Event Viewer errors, the problem could have something to do with admin control.

MSE + Malwarebytes for antivirus

Driver Reviver for drivers.

Got hit with Virtuamonde trojan.

Ran a barrage of scans, with Trojan Hunter, Spybot Search and Destroy, Panda Anti-Virus, Adshampoo Firewall (yes, a mixed bag). Even ran Hitman Pro 2 overnight.

Eventually got system to a usable state, although, not fast, and it ran reasonably well for about a week, then it really slowed up again

Problem is, how to verify if my system is truley clean and to establish what damage to system files etc has to be addressed.

Currently, IE6 and other running programs halt, task manager shows them to be not responding, but given time, they resume, another click on the program window starts this not responding cycle again.

Hi,
I use an Asus g50vt., Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Recently I've encountered a problem with my DVD drive.
My DVD drive: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T50L ATA Device
I'm trying to install an application, in this case Guild Wars 2. Things are going smoothly until the installation freezes. If I try to interact with the DVD drive via My Computer, Windows Explorer freezes up and I need to end the process and start it up again. The disk will not eject from the drive. If I try to reboot, it freezes on boot-up and I need to turn the computer completely off and on again for it to work. Once it boots up, it's returned to normal. If I try to reinstall Guild Wars 2, the whole issue repeats itself.

A:DVD drive stops responding while trying to install applications

The only thing I can suggest is to make sure the connections to the drive are snug. I was having the same problem before(although on a desktop) and it turned out that the cords were vibrating just barely loose.
I would first just try to take it out and put it back in to insure a snug connection.
